General | Posted 14 years agoLooking for Pearls of wisdom.
General | Posted 14 years agoI've been applying for different jobs, entering job market after being sucure for sure a long time is a bit daunting for me. I feel like I everytime I come close to getting a break in this something is there waiting in the shadows to ruin it. I guess I'm getting a bit too nervous about all this.
Does anyone have any pearls of wisdom to share? about going to interviews, things to put on the CV (resume), things like that? I could use all the help I can get.

Elisabeth Sladen 1948-2011
General | Posted 14 years agoNot sure how many Doctor Who fans will be reading this, but I would like to say a few things about the death of Elisabeth Sladen, who died this morning after a struggle with cancer.
Elisabeth Sladen was a wonderfully talented actress who came to the attention of the British public and indeed the world, when she was cast as the companion of the 3rd and 4th Doctors 'Sarah Jane Smith'. She will be remebered as being a heroine and a inspiration to so many, from those who watched her adventures with Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker, to those new generation of fans who watched her on CBBC in the 'Sarah Jane Adventures'. Though it was writers that had created the character, it was Liz that brought her to life and gave a loose character discription a heart and soul. One which will never be forgotten amongst Doctor Who fans and those who watched her as a child. She leaves behind a husband and a daughter, and my thoughts and heart are with them in their time of grief.
For me as a Doctor Who fan, a treasure to the 'who' universe has been lost, as with the death of Nicholas Courtney earlier in the year. She will always remain one of my favourite characters in the series. She worked well with all her co-stars, but her on screen chemistry with Tom Baker (4th Doctor) will be the on screen relationship I will remember the most. For me, the best of the entire series as a whole.
Goodbye, Sarah Jane.

00's music and the Job Market.
General | Posted 14 years agoI was listening to the radio this morning and one of the local stations played a song from about four years ago or so, the song is 'No Worries' by Simon Webbe. Now I've always hated this type of music, because it seems to be all about getting someone who can 'Sort of' hold a tune and having some half wit producer who writes the lyrics and some even bigger half wit of a musician to do the music.
This I already new...
But what bothered me more when I listened to this song was that the backing singer was actually more talented than the main artist (and when I say artist, I'm stretching the term as much as possible). I suppose it moments like this that makes me very annoyed at the music industry as a whole over the past ten years. I really don't like the vast majority of music in the 00's. Not just because of generic pop crap that gets spun out like it's just been made on some bad production line, or for moments where a perfectly good voice has been backbenched to some asshole ex-member of a boy band, but because there was no real sense style to the music. The 1980's had a style to it, as did the 1990's... for me the best decades in music. But as far as i can tell 00's music whether it's pop, indie, dance, Metal etc, seemed very bland... no sense of style, flamboyance, originality and most of all, a sense of fun.
Okay, music rant over. Right... the Job Market. I've been looking for a job recently... and have never been so bloody depressed in my life. The ammount of crap that's just there is beyond belief even for a recesion. Apparently a door to door salesman is called a 'Field sales operative' nowadays. That's all there is and it's a scary thought when a University educated man like myself is forced to go for jobs like that. And if that makes me a total snob, then I don't care. I worked damn hard to get where I am, I don't want a shit job because the previous generation fucked everything up for the rest of us.

Car Insurance and Paintball
General | Posted 15 years agoCar insurance is just stupidly expensive. I decided to get myself a few online quotes today and the ammounts given are frankly rediculous, how can anyone afford stuff like this nowadays is just beyond me. Looks like I'm gonna have no car for another year which does suck to some extent, but at least I'll be saving on petrol (gas) since I have no use for it.
Anyone else with car insurance troubles in the past?
On bright side of things I went paintball shooting for the first time the other day, which I have to say was a really cool experiance, though it did sting a bit being shot. On the last trip to the States I went to a proper shooting range with proper guns, after that I thought going paintballing would be a bit childish, but I was totally wrong. It was best kind of paintball experience according to my cousin... muddy, wet, raining windy and cold lol Still amazing fun though.
Has anyone else been before?

Elitism in the fandom and a Kettle of Fish
General | Posted 15 years agoDo you reckon the fandom has started to develop a so called elite? As in people who think just because they've been a furry longer they have some sort of special claim over the fandom?
And as for a Kettle of Fish...
Really, where does that phrase come from?

Things I've Forgotten
General | Posted 15 years agoI started my Teacher Training about a month ago. Over the past month I've been observing classes and getting to know the students who I will be eventually teaching in about three weeks time. It's made me realise something, being in the role of a teacher, that somehow over the past few years I've just forgot. I've had to remind myself in many ways what it was like to grow up, with some of the problems that 16-18 year olds may have. My mentor in the department where I teach told me that being a teacher is not just about educating students in subjects, but you kinda have to be part social worker too. Seeing some of the troubles teenagers have to put up with over the past month of observing... it's made me feel a little bit of an asshole for forgetting about it. Like when I turned 21 three years ago everything I felt about growing up just seemed to go out of the window, like I was saying 'Screw this, I'm an adult now'. In some ways I thought teaching would be a breeze, but I was wrong. It hasn't put me off or anything like that, it's made me want to work harder if anything.
Am I mad for thinking this? Does any of that make any sense at all? I would really like an opinion guys if you don't mind.
Thanks for listening.

Finishing work and other things.
General | Posted 15 years agoAfter a whole summer of toiling in the seventh layer of McHell I've finally finished until december. Which is a good thing I can tell you, not sure I could stand anything to do with fast food and co-workers who are drop outs from the school of charm for much longer. Couple those two factors with rude customers and we have something that would make Dante's Inferno seem like a nice holiday to palm beach. Okay that was over dramatic but you get the idea.
On Monday my teaching career begins with a simple (but actually it's really hard) teacher training course at my local college, will spend one half of the week learning how to be a teacher and the other half teaching my own classes. Looking foward to it, but it doesn't seem quite real. Though I think that will sink in once I get to the campus on Monday Morning.
As for writing... not that anyone reads my shit but I better get act together and actually finish things, otherwise it all seems kinda pointless... art must go on and all that other pretentious crap.

Play about the furry fandom
General | Posted 15 years agoI'm currently writing a play about furries and the fandom, for it to be one day performed somewhere. I was hoping if anyone watching my page would be interested in being interviewed as part of my writing process. Bare in mind that some of the interveiw transcript will be going into the play and will be one day performed. If you wish, I can garentee that your identidy will not be revealed in the play and a character name will replace your own.

It's finally happened
General | Posted 15 years agoI have a degree now in Contemporary Theatre and Performance, don't get me wrong I'm over the moon about it... I mean I have a degree :)
But there's a slight catch to all this... I have to be grown up now, which is scaring me a little. No more student life anymore, I've gotta earn money, get a place with walls, carpets, furniture... christ I've gotta pay back my student loans... this is all just crazy. Any pearls of wisdom from anyone who's watching would be handy, the big wide world does scare me a little.

Back into writing
General | Posted 15 years agoI've decided after a massive peoriod of not writing I'm gonna get back into it. I look at my gallery page and it's just depressing with all the half finished and half arsed things I've done. Time for a big change, and if I do start posting I would appreciate some comments guys as I always take your advice seriously as fellow writers and artists.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Merry Christmas
General | Posted 16 years agoMerry Christmas to all who are watching and to everyone on Fur Affinity. Have a happy new year too.
The wolf that never was and other things.
General | Posted 16 years agoWritten a prologue for a new story I might continue, not sure if I should since the reactions haven't been that good. but anyhoo...
I've really gotta start writing more stuff or actually be brave enough to put some of my sketches up in my gallery, not sure though. Either be brave or have my girlfriend twist my arm into doing it lol

New Up coming Submissions for Early August
General | Posted 16 years agoOkay here's a little run down of what stories I'll be posting in Early August.
Dark Moon Rising (Chapters 4-6)
Not a popular story as not many have commented, but I'm determined to get the story finished as a lot of things I write tend to be left un-finished. Besides I like it lol.
Into the Rain
A new short story I've nearly finished. And I promise this will be a thousand times better than DRIFT, which was a little shit if I'm honest to myself. It's a bit of a down beat story, but hoepfully might spark an interest to the grand total of four people watching my page.
On that subject I'd really like to say thanks to those who are watching, it's really appreciated. :)

General | Posted 16 years agoI'm gonna at least add something new to my gallery this week if it kills me, I have a few days off from work and will write something damit!!!
Fresh Start
General | Posted 16 years agoI've decided to make a fresh start on my FA page, my previously posted stuff is now in scraps. Having just made a completely stupid topic on the forums has made me realise a few things. I'm gonna give this another go.
General | Posted 16 years agoJust a quick note, thank-you to those who have at least viewed my page so far. Greatly appreciated :)
Ever feel that a story is kicking your ass!!!
General | Posted 16 years agoI've decided to do an overhall on the first three parts that I have written, as I feel they need to be tidied up a lot. It's quite a hard thing to do... well not to a writer with at least a microgram of talent, but for me this is hard!
I need a drink.

Started Sketching the other day
General | Posted 17 years agoHaven't drawn anything in years, I'd fogotten how much I enjoyed it. It helps relax me, particually if it's been a stressful day in lectures and the like. At weekend when I have access to a scanner I post them here, but please bare in mind that I'm usually hopeless at things like this. If even one person thinks I've done alright that would be a miricle in itself.
Oh and some more of my werewolf story 'Dark Moon Rising' will be up later this week. hopefully some of you guys out there are still interested.
Catch you later...

Up coming project
General | Posted 17 years agoCurrently working on a short story called 'Dark Moon Rising', should be done soon. I have to admit I'm a little nervous about posting it, don't really have much confidence in myself as a writer. But if I don't post it I'll never know if it's good or bad... either way I'll still feel rubbish in the face of the artists in particular, I can't draw a circle round a penny.
