2022 Apudato
Posted 4 years agoA year ago I made a post about no longer posting on FA by the end of the year. And that might still be the case. I slowed down posting here in 2021, so there might be a few drawings that you missed out on.
If you like my stuff and would like to keep up with it, I'd still recommend you follow me on any of these other pages:
-https://henlp.newgrounds.com/ (currently my main gallery);
-https://henpendrips.tumblr.com/ (for more frequent sketches, scans, and update posts);
-https://www.pixiv.net/en/users/26410898 (not as many uploads so far);
-https://twitter.com/hen_tweets (I hate this last one).
-https://www.webtoons.com/en/challen.....itle_no=179447 (where I post my comic)
Possible goodbye, but the page is gonna stay up. Will see if you still get something before I'm finally done.

Apudato
Posted 5 years agoBeen a long time coming, but I'm looking to move away from FA. I only joined originally at the suggestion of an acquaintance at the time in spite of no furry art, but it's just a platform that I don't use beyond uploads.
I'm not gonna delete this page, or quit cold-turkey, mind you. And unlike my reaction with DeviantArt in May, I also won't be posting things at random bursts whenever I find the time is right. But if you wanna keep up with my stuff, look me up and give us a follow on any of these other platforms:

To everyone that's interacted with my content here, be it with comments, favorites, commissions: thank you very much for all the fish, and I hope you come check up my stall in other markets.

Total Eclipse, oh boy!
Posted 5 years agoTurns out that DeviantArt decided to nuke itself. Everyone thought that Tumblr was going to die after the boobie ban, and yeah the userbase certainly collapsed for the most part... but at least the site is STILL FUNCTIONAL (as functional as Tumblr's ever been). Hell, even FA's UI change is actually functional, if still lesser compared to its previous version, and doesn't look like TOTAL ASS.
I'll probably be reuploading some of my shit from dA here and there. Doing my best not to clutter anyone's feed with old crap, but I like to go back and remember things that I've done, good and bad, to make sure I LEARN from it. If you start seeing weirdo shit from before I started posting here, keep that in mind.

On Redbubble

Opened up a Redbubble shop. Currently only have some of my Summon Keyblade designs on there, oriented for stickers due to their size. But in my desperation, I got plans, so stay tuned.
If you think I got some shit that you'd maybe like to see on the shop, holler.

Schedules, Priorities, and Avoiding Burnout
Posted 6 years agoI've been giving priority to Queens of Harem for almost a year now, but sadly I'll have to dial it back for now (couldn't even make it to October 31st). Some of you noticed for sure that my output for this year has been rather lackluster, and it was due to me prioritizing the comic in my spare time, beyond any other responsibilities that I have.
But if I continue doing this, I'll likely get burned-out from doing Queens of Harem, as many webcomic authors often do, if not drawing altogether. Which I don't want to happen, ever. So I'm shifting priorities: ideas for standalone comic strips, illustrations, quickies, whatever, will be first on the list, and QoH will follow after. That way, I might be able to continue to build an audience, as so many friends and e-cquaintances have suggested, so that hopefully one day I'll be in a place where I can once again prioritize QoH... and you know, still sustain myself.

Queens of Harem - Updates
Posted 7 years agoIt's been a long-ass time since I've made a journal update. D'oh well.
Here I am to shill Queens of Harem, my comic, which you can read over on WebToons. The first chapter (after the pilot) has been updating every other week on Wednesdays, with a new update today. While my Patreon for the project is still active, I'd rather nobody commit to donating there, since I'm unsure whether I'll continue to use the service.

State of Affairs (Big Update)
Posted 8 years agoWell, it's been a while since I've put up one of these here. But I figured it's the best way to keep everything in check for those that might care. So bear with me for a moment:
Some of you might've noticed that I've been off-handedly mentioning something I'm working on. I commited to this since New Year's, and I want to kick it into high-gear as much as possible, so that I can finally have something to show for it. This means that there will be less frequent content here and on other platforms. However, I still plan on doing some stuff:
-Mondays will be dedicated to Boku no Hero Academia action shots like the ones I've been doing for a while now. To celebrate the new season, I'll be doing a follow-up quickie after every episode (usually from a character relevant to said episode). So if you have suggestions you have until Sundays to throw them my way;
-I am still contributing artwork for the Beyond the Pale tabletop project, even if not as frequently, due to the creator having been writing short stories based on it to help promote the game as it's being developed. Check out the page to learn more about it (http://beyondthepalerpg.tumblr.com/);
There might be some interjectors every now and then (I am terrible at focusing), namely based on the shit entertainment that I'm consuming at the time, but that's about it for now.

Status Update
Posted 9 years agoI've been seemingly absent on this site and others, but as you know, me and heat don't equate to productivity. xP
As referenced in my latest upload, I have been posting some semi-worked doodles on Tumblr, where the sketchbook and less "final" work appears. Figured it's best to present the other platforms that I'm at, if anyone's interested:
.DeviantArt (henlp.deviantart.com/) - Main gallery, submit porfolio material and more finished products;
.Furaffinity (here) - Specifically character art and comics (if you're interested in seeing some environment art as well, then do let me know, so that I can keep posting it here);
.NEWGROUNDS (henlp.newgrounds.com/) - Mostly items that I want community feedback from, no sketches or half-assed items;
.Tumblr (henpendrips.tumblr.com/) - As mentioned above, sort of my digital sketchbook, where I post both the finished products and the doodles, as well as some studies;
.Facebook (facebook.com/hensketches/)- Hub of sorts for all platforms. I don't like using it, so it just functions as a way to keep track of everything.
As for what I'll be doing now, for the moment I will be dedicating my time to more environment concepts for the Beyond the Pale project I've been contributing towards (beyondthepalerpg.tumblr.com/), so that I have more background pieces for my portfolio, and doing some character design in-between feedback from the "boss". This also means that unless I specifically say, commissions will most likely be closed in the meantime. Once I'm done with environments, I think it'll be time to sack up, and start doing something worth opening up a Patreon. No promises, and no clues, for the moment.
Hope everyone had a good Summer. Cheers.

Illustration Fridays and FFX-2
Posted 9 years agoHas it's been made obviously clear, I began participating in the Illustration Friday thing for classes. While I don't dislike it, it is something that eats up my time, especially if I take too long to come up with something. In the future, as it has happened with this week's post, I'll only be submitting IFs here and on a few other platforms if I am content with the results. To see all of these, consider following me on Tumblr, on Hen's Pen Drips: http://henpendrips.tumblr.com/
(I am not any more active there than I am here, other than posting sketches and quickies).
Now, onto FFX-2. Lemme rant a bit.
I began playing this game last weekend. While I previously said in its Final Fantasy Lessons comic strips, that I had played the game previously, that isn't entirely accurate, as someone else was constantly picking up the game and playing it, even when I wasn't there. And man... this game is HORRIBLE. Not because of the cheesecake fest, I find it silly, but harmless; not because of so many recycled assets; not even because, to the point of writing this, the story in chapter 1 is that uninteresting. No, the game is horrible, because it's a checklist. In order to get 100% completion, to get all the scenes at the end, you need to literally follow, not just a guide, but a checklist.
The combat system gets a bit on my tits, but it's basically just ATB and three main characters who switch classes instead of multiple characters. The leveling up of the characters and abilities are both a bit dull, but I can manage. It's really the checklist thing that bothers me. That just not doing one minute thing and "WHOOPS!! NO PROPER ENDING FOR YOU!! BETTER REPLAY THE GAME!!!".
I haven't played FFXII yet, but I'd say that X-2 is the appropriate representation of Squeeenix taking over what once was Squaresoft.
Do I hate the game? No. Do I resent this aspect of it? Probably. Will I keep playing? Well, those FF Lesson ideas aren't gonna write themselves (the things I do xDD). Would I say FFX-2 is worse than XIII? They're at the same level, IMO, but for completely different reasons. FFXIII at least kept me playing while the story was still going (a story which, I remind you, I didn't like), X-2 hasn't captivated me enough to make me want to pick up and play as frequently, not on the same level of XIII, and CERTAINLY not even close to X. Maybe it'll get better once I can start grinding like a madman. xD
So yeah, just letting off some steam.

And it is done...
Posted 10 years agoForced internship is done. Still studying, but that means more time that can be used for school-work and personal drawings. Would like to return to Final Fantasy Lessons, but have a big assignment to complete before the end of the month, so that'll be on hold until March. Which isn't bad, necessarily, 'cause I want to do some other stuff in the meantime.
Speaking of which, have you considered maybe throwing money at me, to keep me doing the drawings stuff? I'm open for commissions, I've even dropped my rule of not drawing "bits" (though drawing sex acts would still be shit, so I'm still not doing those), so how 'bout taking hold of my time so I can do art stuff for you? Hint-hint.
Also, ff some of you are weebs and/or know of an English-to-Japanese educational podcast or something of the sort, I am looking into that as well.
Anyways, back to the pen. Glad to be "back". And follow me on Hen's Pen Drips (http://henpendrips.tumblr.com/), for more behind-the-scenes uploads, including process-y stuff and sketchbook scans.

On Tumblr
Posted 10 years agoThe Tumblr blog, that I intend to use as a digital sketchbook, is now live. Check out the very few posts already on Hen's Pen Drips (http://henpendrips.tumblr.com/ ). Since I know jack-shit when it comes to Tumblr, if anyone can gimme a hand sorting out any questions that I might have, please do. I'd be quite thankful.
School and Internship
Posted 10 years agoIn case the lack of FF Lessons in the last month or so hasn't made it obvious, I am currently swamped. After two years, I'm taking another course, this time in Concept Art (one of the weekly exercises being participating in Illustration Friday).
Adding to that, I am also going to be doing an internship during a few months, so that will ALSO cut on my ability to produce personal work.
I'll still be active (I guess), just don't expect anything personal, at least for a few months. In the meantime, I'm considering opening a Tumblr blog to post things I don't wish to post here, things like the scans I do, that you can also find on this FB page HERE (https://www.facebook.com/hensketches/). I'll update this post if things change.
A big thanks to everyone who's been following me since I started Final Fantasy Lessons. I apologize that what you've come here for won't be posted as frequently, and I hope you'll stick around.

Changes
Posted 10 years agoLike I've mentioned before in a few descriptions, I've been doing some stuff outside of drawing. Yer boy Hen is taking a one-year Concept Art course, starting in October. This obviously has some implications to what has been my production schedule (if you can even call it that) for the past two years or so.
THE BAD:
Due to this, obviously it'll become far more difficult for me to hunker down and just make an entire piece as frequently, despite my improvements in time spent on each drawing. And because it's a course that I have to leave town to get to, means I'll be spending four hours of public transportation to come and go, every school day.
It's also a rather expensive course, so chances are that I might also end up having to get a part-time to help with the costs. I've been trying to figure out ways to make some money with my drawings, since that would incentivize me to draw outside of class a lot more, but so far it doesn't seem all that pheasable.
THE GOOD:
Thankfully, I only have classes three times a week. And while I don't personally like the schedule, having it start at the end of the afternoon still gives me a lot of time in the day to both procrastinate and at least attempt to draw in my free-time (at least as long as I don't have 'homework' to do), if we somehow manage to not need me getting a part-time.
It's also a Concept Art course, meaning that, not only will I be doing and improving on something I am very passionate about, it technically still means I'll be making stuff that (I hope) can be posted on my platforms.
So yes. Things are changing. For the better or the worst, nobody knows. Let's just hope that I survive this upcoming year (well, less than a year), and coming out with something to show for it. Until classes start, I'll try to keep doing a few more FF Lessons, but I also want to catch up to a few anime while I still have the time... we'll see.
In the meantime, I also want to try and figure out how to make a Tumblr blog, to use instead of that Facebook page, and see if I can get a separate page going for Final Fantasy Lessons. I hear ComicPress is pretty good, an it's free.
Later, folks. And don't you worry, I'm not going anywhere. x)

Steven Universe - Short Review
Posted 10 years agoWARNING: This post will most likely contain spoilers, subjective analysis, and lack of professionality. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!
Once I was done with Rick and Morty, Steven Universe soon followed. For those of you unaware, Steven Universe is a cartoon show created by Rebecca Sugar, a former and prominent Adventure Time staff member, and just like that show, each episode is divided into 11 minutes. Other elements such as art direction, pension for random singing, and tackling the entire imagination spectrum via a cutesy-looking adventure show, are also prevalent.
Steven Universe follows the titular character, a young boy, and his family/guardians, the Crystal Gems, aliens with magical powers (yes, I get the contradiction), as Steven strives to live up to his half-Gem side, like his mother, the former leader of the Gems. Wackyness, lore and some feelz ensue.
THE GOOD:
-While the art direction of Steven Universe is akin to AT's, it has less of a random color palette, and focuses on mostly warm, soft colors, especially with the characters. While at first you might end up seeing only pink and red-orange colors, it does pay off as the more alien entities generally have darker and colder colors, as well as usually having more dark contrasts. The animation is simple but solid, as it is expected, since the art style allows for different animation teams to just pick up the show whenever. Sugar's anime influences also show, as the fighting sequences and over-the-top action moments are very animanga-esque (though slightly more contained, due to the smoother art direction);
-Most of the elements of the show are top-notch: the pacing in each individual episode is phenomenal, especially given that each is only 11 minutes long; the soundtrack, while not repetitive enough to be memorable, fits the mood of each scene very well, and given that it's a video series, I'd say that it makes the experience of connecting audio and visuals a success;
-The lore in Steven Universe is also fantastic, and how you are introduced to it, bit by bit, feels genuine to the narrative of the show. You don't feel spoon-fed the information, but you are also not left in the dark (unlike AT), so you'll definitely want to know more about the Crystal Gems and their Homeworld, as well as the back-story to these millenial characters. If like me, you are a fan of over-the-top elements in anime, as well as well-built fantasy story, you'll definitely appreciate it in this show. However...
THE BAD:
-Remember how I said that the pacing for each individual episode is phenomenal? Well, the same cannot be said for the pacing of the series as a whole. The Crystal Gems' lore is the most interesting aspect of this cartoon show, and during the first season, we don't get enough of it, and we get it sprinkled in with far too much in between. The "filler" episodes are everywhere, and for someone who currently enjoys numerous slice-of-life stories, it had to work pretty hard for me to dislike it so heavily. Granted, in the first season it's used to establish the setting, the secondary cast, and the world... but most of it is just boring and uninteresting for me. Mostly, I categorize the secondary cast as the same in soaps on my country's channels: are just there to extend the story unecessarily, by moving away from the main focus, to extend the episode quota and fill the time-slot;
-Steven, the protagonist, is boring. He's a very weak character, in terms of investment, which is odd, because he's meant to be the main character, and the one the audience is meant to project onto so that the story can be carried through his perspective. And while that's done, I guess, we spend far too much time on Steven's shoulder in the first season of the show, when the real stars are the Crystal Gems, and to a FAR lesser degree, Steven's father Greg (mostly due to the vagueness of Steven's mother, and her actions prior to the start of the show). I will give it to the show's crew, that at least we get a sense of progression for Steven in terms of skill and ability, and that he's been less prevalent and less of the focus during the second season, but he still takes far too much time away from the show. And if you don't like him... well, you're kind of screwed in that aspect;
-I know that Adventure Time has a bunch of random music, but in Steven Universe it happens almost every other episode: a flurry of songs that are just there to pass the time, and just like in AT, they're just random bits of music, not catchy enough to even add to a playlist, unlike in MLP, for example. I'm the kind of person that enjoys having silly bits of music on my MP3 player, but SU's music really doesn't do it for me.
... Okay, I will admit that I am not made of stone (get it?), and that I really enjoy the song in the first season's finale. But that's mostly due to the fact that I am a softie for moments in cartoons where the focus is on family and/or friends. Hits close to home. GG, Garnet.
FINAL THOUGHTS & SHOULD YOU WATCH:
Steven Universe finds itself in a bit of a weird spot, vibe-wise, between Adventure Time and Gravity Fall's more mysterious plot development (obviously, not even close, but it's to help make a general view of the subject). It's definitely a good show, but it's such a drag to go through the first season. I was able to watch all of the second season's episodes in a day, and it was BY FAR better than the first one; and it is possible that, if you're watching on a weekly basis, you'll be less inclined to feel flooded with unecessary filler content. I'll have to wait and see, starting this week.
Should you watch it? If you're like me, or you have even more of an aversion to non-anime slice-of-life, then I'd suggest you muscle up, ignore the chance for minor spoilers, and find a list that tells you which episodes actually progress the main plot during the first season, so you can either ignore or leave the filler content for some other time. Otherwise, if you think you're up for it, go nuts.
P.S: I must warn you, that there seems to be some animosity and vitriol on a part of the SU fandom, as they are incredibly averse to newcomers, or fan-made content that does not meet their personal (ludicrous) standards. These people have been called out on their actions by the show's staff already, so you know it's serious. If you want to discuss Steven Universe with other fans, I'd suggest the subreddit dedicated to it, or groups in more creation-directed platforms.
THE GOOD:
-While the art direction of Steven Universe is akin to AT's, it has less of a random color palette, and focuses on mostly warm, soft colors, especially with the characters. While at first you might end up seeing only pink and red-orange colors, it does pay off as the more alien entities generally have darker and colder colors, as well as usually having more dark contrasts. The animation is simple but solid, as it is expected, since the art style allows for different animation teams to just pick up the show whenever. Sugar's anime influences also show, as the fighting sequences and over-the-top action moments are very animanga-esque (though slightly more contained, due to the smoother art direction);
-Most of the elements of the show are top-notch: the pacing in each individual episode is phenomenal, especially given that each is only 11 minutes long; the soundtrack, while not repetitive enough to be memorable, fits the mood of each scene very well, and given that it's a video series, I'd say that it makes the experience of connecting audio and visuals a success;
However...
THE BAD:
-Remember how I said that the pacing for each individual episode is phenomenal? Well, the same cannot be said for the pacing of the series as a whole. The Crystal Gems' lore is the most interesting aspect of this cartoon show, and during the first season, we don't get enough of it, and we get it sprinkled in with far too much in between. The "filler" episodes are everywhere, and for someone who currently enjoys numerous slice-of-life stories, it had to work pretty hard for me to dislike it so heavily. Granted, in the first season it's used to establish the setting, the secondary cast, and the world... but most of it is just boring and uninteresting for me. Mostly, I categorize the secondary cast as the same in soaps on my country's channels: are just there to extend the story unecessarily, by moving away from the main focus, to extend the episode quota and fill the time-slot;
-Steven, the protagonist, is boring. He's a very weak character, in terms of investment, which is odd, because he's meant to be the main character, and the one the audience is meant to project onto so that the story can be carried through his perspective. And while that's done, I guess, we spend far too much time on Steven's shoulder in the first season of the show, when the real stars are the Crystal Gems, and to a FAR lesser degree, Steven's father Greg (mostly due to the vagueness of Steven's mother, and her actions prior to the start of the show). Rick and Morty - Short Review
Posted 10 years agoWARNING: This post will most likely contain spoilers, subjective analysis, and lack of professionality. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!
So, after catching up to Rick and Morty by the start of the week, I'd decided to write a short review of the show, for those of you who might be interested in it. To summarize, Rick and Morty is a sci-fi-themed comedy cartoon show, in the vein of former "adult-oriented-but-for-all-the-family" shows like The Simpsons, Family Guy, etc... except it's on Adult Swim, so you know it's automatically better. It somehow finds itself in the middle of family sitcom cartoons and Adventure Time-like cartoons, without the boring repetition of the former or the "LOL SO RANDOM" attitudes of the latter.
Rick and Morty follows the adventures of Rick Sanchez, an insanely talented scientist/inventor that is known throughout the Universe (in a bad light, might I add), and his grandson Morty, whom Rick takes as his assistant as he goes on adventures to other planets, dimensions, and everything in between, while constantly having to deal with the rest of their family: Morty's older sister Summer, and his parents, Jerry and Beth (Beth being Rick's daughter, and the one who allowed him to move in with them).
THE GOOD:
-The show surprises imensely with its art direction and animation. At first, you might suspect that it'll be a Go!Animate kind of show in terms of animation, but you'll quickly lose that fear, as it's shown that the animation is varied and the designs for everything that isn't human(oid) are daring, complex and detailed, and very interesting to look at.
-The writing and the pacing for each episode is fantastic, even on the first three episodes (which are still trying to get a decent pace going). And the more you watch, the more you understand that, while every episode is self-contained, there does seem to be some looming questions in the back, and that there's some things that need to be addressed. Whether it is the intent of the creators to actually have a story that ends, can only be known when/if it happens. But in the meantime, it's certainly enjoyable to just watch episodes as they come. They might not have (for me) the rewatching value of Robot Chicken, exactly due to uncertainty of the alleged "secret" plot, but every episode is just fun.
-Every setting, every creature, every element is handled in a great way. You will be able to see a fuck-ton of worlds and alternate dimensions, and they'll all feel very well connected, forming a believeable Universe. At first you might think that certain alien characters are just thrown in for the sake of it, yet they are well expanded. And the monsters are very interesting, just like in Adventure Time, they can look menacing and perhaps more detailed than the main characters, but their lovecraftian designs won't take away from the experience, and will instead add to it.
THE BAD:
-Like I've mentioned before, the first three episodes were kind of annoying for me. I don't exactly know why, but after watching them I wasn't hooked, and was afraid that the show wouldn't captivate me. If you ever find yourself having this experience with any of the episodes, don't get discouraged. If you like the sci-fi themes, then I'd suggest you just soldier through, because even in an episode that might not be as appealing, there's bound to be something there for you.
-A continuous plot-point in the show is the shaky marriage of Morty's parents. While it is very real and understandable, it still takes away from the experience, especially when it's either a secondary story or it's mentioned almost every episode. It gets beaten to the ground over and over, and even with other characters taking the piss out of the situation, it just seems like a token effort to point to it within the show's world, yet allow it to continue on and on, without actually addressing it or having the characters move past it. It has gotten less prevalent in the second season, but it's still there, and it's still annoying.
FINAL THOUGHTS & SHOULD YOU WATCH:
Rick and Morty is definitely a very necessary fresh entry for the Simpson/Family Guy type of cartoon, because it actually brings something new to the table, and doesn't pretend to be something that it isn't (granted, it only has 16 episodes out so far, with 10-episode seasons). It's crass, but not crass in the "Ooo, look at me talking about sex and trying to imply innuendo, we're so edgy!!"; it's actually mature in regards to its humor, even when ridiculous, so it also takes Adventure Time's random factor away, to actually give us cohesion in each episode.
Like I've said, there SEEMS to be something else going on behind every episode, especially in regards to Rick. But since it hasn't reached AT's level of giving too much plot (and consequently making everything that isn't story progression feel like filler), the show can still be enjoyed on an episode-by-episode basis. Id' recommend actually watching everything, but chances are that, outside of some continuity references here and there, you won't miss much if you don't watch all of them, or if you only want to watch it in its time-slot.

Small Intermission
Posted 10 years agoI'll be taking a small time off from continuous daily drawing. I'll be trying to get some stuff done this week, so it's better if I can 'unwind' in the remaining time (granted, that remaining time will still be far greater than the occupied time, but still).
I'll be taking this opportunity to do a few procrastinating things: I'm intent on finishing Transistor as soon as possible (definitely not gonna aim for completion, or even replay it); this week will have a continuous event in the Final Fantasy Record Keeper game, so there's that as well; and while it's best if, at this point, I just wait for Monster Musume and Shimoneta to finish in three weeks, I'll finish catching up to Rick and Morty today, and will probably watch Steven Universe next... Cthulhu save me. If any of you haven't watched them, and would like some short reviews on these shows, do let me know, I'd be happy to help.
All of this doesn't necessarily mean that I won't be drawing at all, just that I won't be doing anything big, or very complex, like Final Fantasy Lessons. Don't worry, they'll come back. They always do, after all. In the meantime, just keep your butts on hold, as your boy tries to do things that will make him a responsible, yet procrastinating, member of society.

ICONIC's Mascot Gallery
Posted 10 years agoThere is a brazillian art "event", of sorts, that is going on at the moment, called ICONIC. It's basically intended to be an organization of different artist, from all over the world, participating in small presentations and the like, via livestreaming.
Anyways, until the August 1st, Brasília time, there is a sort of gallery that has been put up, for anyone to participate, by creating a piece done by themselves, of the event's mascot character, Flora.
https://www.facebook.com/IconicNetw.....b3373bd441f90e
This MIGHT be the link that directs you to my entry, but to be sure... here's also the link for the rest of the gallery as well (there's a lot of spiffy entries already):
https://www.facebook.com/IconicNetw.....23461697723768
Enjoy the things that people have done. I'll be sure to post my entry on FA after a while.

Sketchbook Shilling
Posted 10 years agoA quick one: if you'd like to see some work-in-progress, paper scans, and other stuff like that, consider looking up my 'Hen's Sketchbook' page on Facebook, here: https://www.facebook.com/hensketches
I know, I know, it's Facebook, the spawn of this decade's digital Satan. I don't really want any followers or anything like that, but some more interaction. That would be neat.
Some might say that Tumblr or a blog is more suited for this kind of thing. And I'd be willing to agree... if I wasn't scared shitless of Tumblr. .____.
Anyways, at the least look up the preview for the next FF Lesson. We've got some comebacks. >u<

The "Lack of Direction" Journal Post
Posted 10 years agoDigital drawing and digital painting; traditional drawing on paper, with pencils and ballpoints and inkpens; illustration; sketches; concept art; animanga and cartoonime and semi-realistic; colorization and B/W; comic strips and manga; fanwork and original content; storytelling; video game development...
There's too much shit that I do, in terms of creative content. And because of that, I lack artistic direction. I know what I want from myself, and that is to tell stories, especially through the medium of illustration. But I don't know what to do about it. I don't know how to advance.
2014 was a shit year for me (both figuratively and quite literally), and it wasn't just because I was sick 8 months of it, but because, perhaps for the first time since I can remember, I was truly isolated and chained to a routine that has been slowly eating at me, in mind and body. While on one hand I had two sets of works that sort of accomplished the goals I intended them to (improving my portfolio with "The Twenty"; and getting better at backgrounds and comics with the "Final Fantasy Lessons"), it just made it all the more confusing for me, on what to concentrate on, on what I can do, to at least aleviate my current situation.
So, this is a question to you, the rest of the world (but mostly the people who'll bother to read this drivel): what do you want from me, at least on this platform? Last month, I made the step in separating my unfinished work and sketches from other platforms, by creating a page dedicated to showing those things, and I've been slowly getting away from deviantArt, and making it more about portfolio content. So here, on FA, what do YOU want to see from me?
(FYI, the "just do what you want" reply is unnacceptable at this point. Don't bother leaving that comment)
And I also direct my doubts to those that have more life experience on their belt, or different experiences altogether. I'd like to hear from you, regardless of whether you're a hobbyist, a consumer, a full-time creator. Doesn't matter, I just want information.
P.S: I apologize for the incredibly petty and negative journal. But it was the appropriate time to do it, so why the fuck not.

Fantasy RPG Redesign Giveaways
Posted 10 years agoUPDATE: THE GIVEAWAY BELOW IS NO LONGER ACTIVE!!! (feel free to continue to share your own ideas, though)
So, I am offering to do some Fantasy RPG-style drawings, for anyone and free of charge, on the same vibe as the set I recently uploaded: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/16568815/
Now, how do you get one? All you have to do, is leave a comment down below or on said submission's comment section, with the character you want me to draw, and with the following information:
-A made-up character class name (if you just want to make the character a Paladin or Summoner, just make up another name for it);
-A small description of how that class functions (references to estabilished RPG classes can help with this);
-What kind of gear the character would wear (both type and colors for reference).
But, there's also some rules to follow, otherwise I might be biting more than I can chew:
-You MUST me a watcher of this gallery;
-You need to provide visual references for your picked character;
-Character must be yours, or you'll have to get the creator's permission;
-IF asked, you must be able to provide visual references for your desired class (you can do this with the first comment, there's just no guarantee that you'll be picked at this point);
-Character references can be naked, final drawings won't be (sorry);
-Only one per person (people who I've previously given a free commission before, sorry, everybody gets one, but only once);
This might be me being a little stingy, so I do apologize. xD
Anyways, I can assure you that the quality of the drawings, WILL be better that the ones I made from my paper doodles, though they will still be colored with flats.
Once I've decided that I've gathered enough, or a certain amount of time has passed, I'll update this journal.
Since I don't know how long I'll take, you'll be able to keep up with the process of these by following my page on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/hensketches (sorry about that xP)
In the meantime, the floodgates are open. BE CREATIVE, PEOPLE! =D

Short Update
Posted 10 years agoI am just writing to let people know that, due to work and school, my programmer was unable to finish a build worth submiting.
In the meantime, I leave you the link for the currently-submitted games. Haven't played any of them myself (for what should be obvious reasons), but I hope they're worth your time, as the judges decide on the top-two competitors for the final round.

Programmer colleague wants to continue working on MORSELS still; and considering that my work for the demo was done a few weeks back, it'll be a long time before anything is ready to play. In the meantime, I'll probably post the level JPEGs, to take advantage of STILL not having my workspace back, and wanting to, after Log Horizon 2, catch up with Nanatsu no Taizai.
Oh, and I've opened the Facebook page that functions as a digital sketchbook as well. If you haven't checked the banner I did for it yet (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/16398021/), you can find that page through this link: https://www.facebook.com/hensketches

Ready, Set: BACK IN ACTION (sorta)
Posted 10 years agoSo, as you might've read if you seen my recent upload, there is really nothing more that I can do in regards to the game I'm working on. At least, not for the game-jam version. So, despite the voting only occurring in May, I am (semi) officially done with MORSELS (until further notice). I'll keep people updated, so I can encourage more guinea-pigs to go play random games developed by random people... and maybe vote for the ones they liked. We'll see. ;P
But now that I am done with that, does it mean I'm gonna go back to my schedule? Weeeeeeeeeeeeellllll... not yet, for a few reasons:
1) I currently do not have access to my optimal workspace;
2) I want to take advantage of this situation to organize some schtuff I want to take care of (selling coins);
3) Before I go back to more frequent drawings, I want to open up something that, unfortunately, has to be done: a Facebook page (yes, even WRITING it makes me vomit a bit in my mouth), which I will use as a digital sketchbook, where I'll upload paper scans (only those with good things on them), unfinished drawings, regular sketches, and some in-process stages for some drawings.
I know that it sounds horrid (especially if, like me, you hate Facebook and other social media sites), but sadly, it's the easiest way I can think of to catch the attention of the non-drawing masses (plebs), in an attempt to raise my chances for getting commissioned.
Anyways, it's been a busy three months. Kinda sucks that I currently don't feel like it's appropriate to post more of what I've been working on for MORSELS, but who knows. Maybe we'll actually end up moving forward with it, and make a full game out of this "proof-of-concept". Only time will tell. I can at least ASSURE everyone that we won't be selling this version, or even put it on Early Access, hence me calling it a "demo".
Once the FB page is done, I shall link it everywhere for you to go oggle at (to see the inner-workings of a mediocre madman). In the meantime, feel free to check out my NEWGROUNDS page (http://henlp.newgrounds.com), as well as my gallery in deviantArt (http://henlp.deviantart.com). Oh, and as always, despite the drawings now being slightly out of date, my commission guide is still useable (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/13328167/), so... yeah.
'Til the next one.

UPDATE: Downtime
Posted 11 years agoI am currently participating in an ongoing gamejam, and trying to create personal content during these next few months will be too great a toll on my mind and body, so submissions will slow down A LOT. I'll still try to keep working on a few things (had some redrawings planned and everything), but they will be secondary to the work I'll be doing for this project (which I will not be able to reveal, at least until the gamejam's over).
Will still be around, just not submitting as often (if at all).
