Posted 5 years agoIf you could make your perfect set of Pokemon gym leaders, who would be in it?
*A set is a full set of 8 leaders.
*For purposes of this list, Frontier Brains and Alolan Kahuna are considered 'gym leaders'.
*One Elite Four member or Champion can be included as the last Gym Leader.

Death of Two Ringbearers
Posted 5 years agoI just heard that Ian Holm died today due to Parkinson's related complications.
Ian Holm was probably known to most as Bilbo Baggins in the Lord of the Rings movies, but he also played FRODO Baggins in the BBCs radio drama of the series. He has also portrayed Priest Vito Cornelius in The 5th Element, Ash in Alien, and Sir William Guhl in From Hell. His credits in film and theater are endless, as was his talent.
A great light has left the world.

Random thought of the day 4/10/2020
Posted 5 years agoWould you want to live in a world where the night is lit solely by blacklight?
Just a little blasphemous...
Posted 5 years agoFinally getting around to watching Castlevania: Season 3 and I think I've found what's going to be my favorite line of the season. It happens in episode 5 (11:51 in, if you want to skip to it). Sypha is getting to know Count St. Germain when they notice a worrying rune carved on the lintel of the town entrance.
Sypha: What in the name of God is going on in there?
St. Germain: God? I understood you Speakers to have quite the fractious relationship with God. On today's evidence I wonder if Christianity hasn't gone out of fashion.
Sypha: Oh, God was terrible! He was fierce and jealous...We all know the old stories of God and we fear Him. But Yeshua the Christ, His sacrifice was a lesson in how to love unconditionally. Which only makes sense. As my Grandfather always said, 'We want our children to exceed us in every way.'
Makes perfect sense from the perspective of someone who has on the one hand been raised on the Old Testament version of God and on the other has spent her life persecuted by people claiming to act in His name.

Random thought of the day
Posted 5 years agoYou know what would have been weird? Living in the age right after personal names became a thing. The words would still be more associated with their original meaning than with what you call a person. It must have been like:
"Good morning, Looks-Sort-of-Like-A Puma-But-Isn't."
"And to you, Born-Under-the-Old-Tree-On-the-Edge-of-Town. Have you seen Fell-Into-a-Mud-Puddle today?"
"Yes, she was hanging out with Those-Flowers-That-Grow-By-The-River an hour ago."

Looking for info
Posted 6 years agoSo I had an inkling to look through Kevin Conroy's IMDB page and I stumbled upon a title he worked on before he became vengeance and the night. It was called 'Battle in the Erogenous Zone.' Apparently it's a short subject about a pair of lonely people who wander into a dream zone on New Year's Eve where they're taught how to manipulate the opposite sex. It sounded like it might be interesting, but I haven't been able to find much other info about it. I don't suppose anyone else knows any more?
Just wanna say...

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!!
Posted 6 years agoJust thought I'd get my holiday greetings out of the way before heading for midnight mass. I wish all of you a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, happy Kwanzaa, or whatever it is you do or don't celebrate this time of year.
To all of you who DO celebrate Christmas, I have a question for you: what is your philosophy on tree decorating? I'm curious about your thoughts and how you go about it. Just comment below.
And again, Happy Holidays!

Sonic Redesign: My Two Cents
Posted 6 years agoSince it's early yet, I thought I'd drop my thoughts on the new Sonic movie trailer.
Overall, Sonic's redesign is an improvement. It's a much more familiar design, and most of the most Uncanny Valley elements have been removed (hyperteeth, anyone?). Unfortunately, it may have swung just a tad too far in the other direction. The design stands out more starkly against the mundane backgrounds (and the glimpse we get of Mobius is a bit too cartoonish, as well). I would have liked if the design had kept some of the detailing and lighting elements from the original design.
Jim Carey is still the best part of the trailer. We get to see him a bit more in this trailer, and he manages to be both amusing and at time intimidating (and the fact that someone other than the cop reacts to Sonic the same way makes the reaction more palatable).
The story is much more fleshed out in this trailer, though still lacks polish to make it totally clear.
Unfortunately, the trailer also paints Sonic's character in a poor light. He comes off as immature and irresponsible, as well as somewhat lacking in self-confidence. This is stark contrast to the snarky, yet noble and confident character we're used to. Hopefully this is just bad trailer editing, but we'll just have to see.

A 'thought experiment'
Posted 6 years agoTry this: set aside a short time (say, 10 minutes), pick a thought or idea or feeling or something similar, set a timer, and for that amount of time, try to fill your entire mind with ONLY that thought. Let that thought completely fill your consciousness with only a subconscious awareness of your surroundings intruding on the edge of your mind. Think of it as a passive meditation exercise. Let me know if you can do it and what you feel like afterwards.
DDS Security
Posted 6 years agoSo it seems like this screen is coming up more often for me these days. Is anyone else noticing this?
Now I don't pretend to know how this security system works, but if this keeps up, I'm wondering if MAYBE the traffic on this site has legitimately increased to where it's straining the security threshold and they need to raise the maximum traffic level.
Wouldn't that be cool.

Posted 6 years agoIf you could have any fantasy granted to you RIGHT NOW, what would it be?
For me, it would be to walk naked out of my house into a bright spring/early autumn day, where the temperature is just cool on my skin. I'd walk into a small copse of trees, in the center of which is a large tub, the size of a two-person tub, but made for one. The water inside is luke warm. I can stretch out, and even fully submerge myself in the water if I wish. There is a small hole in the canopy directly above the tub, and between the tree trunks I can see the sky between the canopy and the horizon.
I lower myself into the tub, wait until every muscle in my body is completely relaxed, then I slowly start scrubbing every inch of myself with nothing but my finger tips. The process takes hours. The water in the tub is continuously renewed by a slow drain and a trickle feed. I stay in the tub until the sky turns yellow, then return home, letting the cool twilight breeze dry me as I head for bed.
If I could have that, I would be completely satisfied with life for at least 3 days.
How about you?
