It's me, I was the balloon animal
General | Posted 2 years agoIf you were at TFF 2023 and saw the big red balloon dog taur floating around, that was me having the absolute time of my life.
I was surprised at the big turnout for all the panels I hosted or helped with. Friday's Multi/Taur panel ended up being a much better idea than the Misc Interests panel (such interests were handled wonderfully by Caudle / Mellow / Ammy's apto panel). Saturday's Drawing Challenges show was a big success, and I wanna finish up the drawings and edit the recording of the event. And thanks Lollie and Ulterion for letting me speak at the Christian panel. Overall had a blast this year!

TFF 2023 Panel Change: Multi/taurs!
General | Posted 3 years agoAfter some chatting and thinking and last-minute arrangements, I've made a change to one of the panels that I think will be better for everyone.
Multi/Taurs Meet n Greet: Friday March 17th, 4-4:30 PM
"Taurs" are centaurs and centauroid furries or other creatures. But why stop at legs? "Multi" refers to characters with multiple arms, legs, heads, tails, bodies, etc. Whatever it is, more is more! Come meet fellow fans of multi; there are multiple of us! (Previously "Miscellaneous Interests Meet n Greet", those are welcome too!)
Other panels are still the same:
Drawing Challenges with Hexadoodle: Saturday March 18th, 4-5 PM
Hexadoodle is a toony furry artist who's lined up some improvised drawing challenges. Come watch him draw memes, monster merges, media from memory, and more!
Paws of Praise: Sunday March 19th 3:30 - 4:30 PM
"Hello and welcome to another year of fun and fellowship! This is the panel for Christian furs to meet and congregate. Even if you are not a Christian you are still welcome to come listen and meet new people." I'm going to give an about 20-minute message at this event, about the good news of God's love for furries.

TFF 2023 froggery!
General | Posted 3 years agoIf all goes well, I'll be at Texas Furry Fiesta starting on Thursday at around noon and staying until Sunday afternoon. I'm bringing my new Hex suit and a few other suits. Lemme know if you'll be there too!
This time around I'm also leading or co-leading a few panels:
Miscellaneous Interests Meet n Greet: Friday March 17th, 4-4:30 PM
Do you have a very specific Thing that speaks to your soul? Do you scour and save media of it? Do you have a hundred Things? This is a gathering for those who are about more obscure weird furry subject matter. This panel is PG-13 so keep it relatively safe; Things can be but aren't necessarily fetishes, just obsessions and comforts. Even if your Thing is fairly well known, come and celebrate it!

Streaming tomorrow: Media Hexpert Round Two
General | Posted 3 years agoThis was pretty fun! Let's give it another try. Name a piece of media and I will likely know nothing about it, but I can pretend to know all about it while drawing a scene from it! Just like an AI but even wronger. Things I know the least about:
-Anime
-Non-animated movies
-Non-animated TV shows
-Novels
-Theater
You can comment here with a specific one of these (I promise not to look anything up) or in stream when it happens. Anything from obscure to mainstream works! While in stream I encourage lots of questions so I can dispense all my knowledge™.

Streaming tomorrow, new game: MEDIA HEXPERT!
General | Posted 3 years agoTFF is only a month away! I think with this new one, I'll have enough nonsense games to fill up an hour-long panel.
MEDIA HEXPERT:
I am a huge hipster! If you name a piece of media, I will likely know nothing about it, but I can pretend to know all about it while drawing a scene from it! Just like an AI but even wronger. Things I know the least about:

Stream -- another attempt at the challenge!
General | Posted 3 years agoSat 11th: Discomfort Zone
General | Posted 3 years agoI want to stream this Saturday 11th, and I wanted to give plenty of notice.
Here's how it works for those who are new: I will set out to complete a good drawing. As an audience, your job is to make it as difficult as possible, by assigning me a batch of challenges to be done all at once.
I hosted and played this game a long time ago. Here's some examples of artwork I made with these challenges:
https://www.furaffinity.net/view/6747715/
https://www.furaffinity.net/view/9737041/
https://www.furaffinity.net/view/10839281/
More recent ones have been fun:
https://www.furaffinity.net/view/50703551/
https://www.furaffinity.net/view/50794553/
GOOD CHALLENGES are interesting and push me outside of my artistic niche, and can be about any aspect of the work:
Tools: "Only use MSPaint and a 640x480 canvas"
Style/inspiration: "Emulate the style of Jojo's Bizzare Adventure"
Subject matter: "Set the scene in Europe during the bubonic plague"
Just being mean: "Only use your nondominant hand"
BAD CHALLENGES are things I can say no to, and include but are not limited to:
Makes the work impossible: both "use only red" and "use no red"
Violates content policies or Is out of my content bounds: (Anything nsfw)
Is too easy or tangential to the work: "draw my OC chibi-style in the corner"
Costs money or can't be streamed immediately: "make a traditional oil painting"
This time I'm drawing a ONE-PAGE COMIC! You can leave your challenges as comments here (one per person), or stop by the stream on Picarto when it's up and enter your challenges in the chat box.
I also welcome any feedback! Do you enjoy this game, is there anything you feel might improve it?

Next Discomfort Zone Stream: TAUR!
General | Posted 3 years agohttps://www.furaffinity.net/view/50703551/ The last one of these was a lot of fun! I want to do another one sometime this weekend. Here's how it works:
I will set out to complete a good drawing of some subject matter. As an audience, your job is to make it as difficult for me as possible to make a good drawing, by assigning me a batch of challenges to be done all at once.
I hosted and played this game a long time ago. Here's some examples of artwork I made with these challenges:

https://www.furaffinity.net/view/9737041/
https://www.furaffinity.net/view/10839281/
GOOD CHALLENGES are interesting and push me outside of my artistic niche:
-"Draw in hyperrealistic style"
-"Draw it as a tragic 5-panel manga page"
-"Use only muted yellow and neon blue"
-"Only use MSPaint and a 640x480 canvas"
-"Only use your nondominant hand"
BAD CHALLENGES are things I can say no to, and include but are not limited to:
-Makes the work impossible (e.g. both "use only red" and "use no red")
-Is out of my content bounds or violates content policies (e.g. NSFW)
-Is too easy or tangential to the work (e.g. "draw my OC chibi in the corner")
-Costs money or can't be streamed immediately (e.g. "make a traditional oil painting")
The film that inspired this challenge is called "The Five Obstructions". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_F.....e_Obstructions , so five challenges is the magic number. But if I get at least three that should lead to some fun frustration.
This time I'm drawing a TAUR. You can leave your challenges as comments here (one per person), or stop by the stream on Picarto when it's up and enter your challenges in the chat box.

Drawing challenges with Hexadoodle (stream!)
General | Posted 3 years agoI had a fun idea for a panel for an upcoming con, so I want to test it out in a stream. The rules are below. Depending on the popularity, I'll do these challenges in between other projects. If you're there, let me know how it goes and how it can be improved.
Stream: https://picarto.tv/hexadoodle
RULES
To get in the queue, say "Ribbit!" in the chat.
When it's your turn, I'll put the character wheel on screen and spin.
You may request a character in whatever category shows up.
I will draw it first from memory or help from the audience, then with a reference.
If I don't know the thing, I will make up a design based on the name.
Optionally, before I start, you can spin me an extra challenge! Quality will go down but silliness will go up.
Character wheel:
Pokemon
Disney character
Video game char
Build a furry
Your OC (*But I get to have fun with it!)
Extra challenge wheel:
In a specific style
In 60 seconds
With nondominant hand
Spin again and make a mashup
Blindfolded

Be a limb!
General | Posted 3 years agoThe periodical Hexadirectory
General | Posted 3 years agoI think I mentioned this before but accidentally deleted it -- I'm places!
All the places I am are here: https://linktr.ee/hexadoodle
But in particular I have grown fond of Mastodon: https://socel.net/@hexadoodle
I joined an animation-themed instance so as not to overcrowd the furry instances, so my furriness will be more restrained there. I don't think I'll be using it as a gallery. But I finally feel comfortable enough to share my silly thoughts, such gems as:
"Animation is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result"
and
"It’s 5am, and my brain is informing me that One Headlight has the same meter as Achy Breaky Heart."
So yeah, it'll be mostly that as well as my animation adventures. Let's be friends!

Animation time! Short stream
General | Posted 3 years agoI am going to attempt to get an entire animation done this November! I spent October practicing 2D animation principles and learning how to use Opentoonz.
It's going to be a music video for Cake's "Mr. Mastodon Farm".
On all my projects it's worked out well to spend at least an hour a day. I had a packed day today and I can't stay up super late so it'll be a short one for now, but I'm going to stream as much of the process as I can.

Stream tonight + question
General | Posted 3 years agoStreamin on picarto later tonight (about 12 hours from now)
I notice my most recent streams haven’t been getting a lot of viewers. I know some combo of my connection and picarto often going out doesn’t help, I’m in the process of trying to fix stuff. I also know I’m not super consistent with announcing to FA when I’m streaming (come onnnn hex it’s a few clicks to make a journal)
Do you prefer artists use one streaming platform over another?
I guess this is also the “What do you like to see from me” post! I’m still gonna make what I want and I’m not in a huge bind to chase engagement, but it helps a lot to know why people follow the frog so I can make more of the stuff people enjoy.

Back from TFF 2022
General | Posted 3 years agoTexas Furry Fiesta (con and hotel) is getting a looooot of feedback this year about things such as the insane prereg line (4 hours for me), the emergency siren blaring in all our rooms at 3AM, and the constant bottlenecks with elevators, BUT there was a lot of good stuff too! My roomies and I had a little forethought (based on previous con experiences) and a lot of good luck. (God's grace really. I prayed nonstop the whole trip.)
We got there Thursday and got one of the last available hotel parking spots way up on the roof of the parking garage. I ordered an overpriced (i.e. hotel) burger but it took so long to get to me that the bartender didn't charge me for it. My stomach was grumpy for most of the con though, getting healthy and cheap food always seems to be a problem at these things.
For me the biggest draw of these events is getting to meet the people behind the screen names. It's fun seeing talented artists and good friends even if it's just for a few seconds. There were a few people who recognized my characters/work and wanted photos and hugs, and it filled me with joy. I also met a grand total of THREE frogs at this con, a record! (And I blame you all for buying out all of the "Certified Frog" badges. XD)
And then there was suiting! Wildcard is literally made of sweatpants and mom's sewing but I got a lot of mileage and fun out of being him. I spent a month or two fixing up the head and it paid off. About half the time people correctly identified me as an octopus/squid, which I count as a win. I've learned a lot about crafting suits and I want to overhaul Hex at some point before next year.
The highlight of TFF for me has always been the charity poker tournament. I had a miserable TFF in 2019 and the only redeeming thing was getting 3rd place in that year's poker game which earned me free basic membership for 2020, a much better TFF in which I got to be kaijuHex.
Welp... This year, I went to the tournament in partial Wildcard suit and got the craziest lucky hands and took home 1st place, and with it, free super-sponsorship for next year. I'm super jazzed and I fully intend to take advantage of this. I also want to up my participation! I've led panels for smaller cons, but being an artist or panelist for these big huge ones has been pretty intimidating. I'd love to lead/co-lead a panel having to do with: Christianity, art tutorials, meet n greets for niche interests like multi/taurs, etc.
I'm bad at remembering everyone so please definitely send me any photos you took with / of me! Here's to next year.

TFF 2022!
General | Posted 4 years agoBack in 2020 when I first heard the announcement of the next TFF theme, Oceanic Adventure, I was like, come onnnnn that's such a high school prom theme. But then I remembered...

I have an ockitapus!! And TFF aligns with my spring break this year. I'll be bringing Wildcard, but also Hex, and inflatable horse costume that's basically a centaur. TFF is my only con and I love to meet friends old and new. See ya in mid March!

Befriend the frog on steam and VRChat
General | Posted 4 years agoVRchat is fun but I never know when people are around! And I gotta switch OSes to use the headset so I only want to do that when things are happening.
If you use VRchat, feel free to search and add me there! I'm hexadoodle with nothing after it.
If you do add me, please also add me on steam (where I am also Hexadoodle with nothing after it) so that I can see when people are using vrchat.
Even if you don't use VRchat, I enjoy more Steam company. Whatever the case, just say hi and let me know you're from FA/telegram.

Birthday request stream! (Closed)
General | Posted 4 years agoIt's my birfday and nothing would make me happier than to draw a bunch of fun stuff AND not have to think about what I'm gonna draw! So later today (aboooooout 6 hours from now) I'll stream sketch requests.
-SFW only, weirdness welcome. See my gallery for themes.
-Make requests on this journal entry or FA notes. Please provide SFW visual refs.
-I might tweak requests to my liking (with your approval), or I might say no, but no worries, just think of something else.
-I draw VERY FAST
-I can do seconds once everyone has had a turn
-I'll post all sketches on my Telegram channel https://t.me/hexadoodles/

Silly lyrics hunt
General | Posted 4 years agoMakin music all month. Still not certain if I’m going to try for vocals this month, thought about enlisting some collaboration maybe, but for now I have a few very silly ideas that require some source material. Please list (link if you can) any and all songs you know that contain the lyrics:
“I never meant to hurt you” or some paraphrase,
OR
“I’ll be the ____, you can be the ____”
Thanks!

November project: Write an album!
General | Posted 4 years agoI've done Nanowrimo for the last 17 years and I'm sick of writing novels! I want to do some different creative challenge. This year I want to make a new album to get more adept at LMMS music studio.
So I'm committing to posting a new song every day in November, each one at least 1 minute in length, on my telegram channel. They will all need polishing, so in the next month or so afterward I'll clean up the best ones and release them as a bandcamp album. They might even have lyrics.
I have a couple of half-finished or barely-started ideas that I'm going to try and finish, but I'm also open to any kinds of prompts I can use for inspiration. Comment below with concepts! (For instance, it's my continual goal to capture multi-ness in music. :P)

Bandcamp + Free electronic album
General | Posted 5 years agohttps://hexadoodle.bandcamp.com/
One of my way too many hobbies is making electronic music!
I made a Bandcamp page and uploaded the highlights of stuff I made in Jeskola Buzz from 2004-2014. The album "Sand Circus" has sixteen songs, all free to download. Hope you enjoy!
This winter I'm going to try and learn a new music studio, LMMS, more fully and see if I can come up with some newer pieces.
