I want to go back to the days before...
General | Posted 3 days ago... everything wasn't YCHs and adopts.
Sorry, woulda given you that whole sentence in the title, but alas.
This isn't about people needing to make money, I fully support them.
But god I miss the days where, when I clicked a picture of a pretty character, there wasn't a 4 out of 5 chance that it was an adopt. I miss it being just a picture someone commissioned or drew of their character, that there was some actual connection to the character, that it meant something to someone. When they weren't designed to sell, someone taking guesses at what the general public wanted.
Everything feels so much more commodified and it's so frustrating. It feels less and less like a community every day. Honestly, I'm not sure it's felt like a community for a long time, now. Which sucks, seeing as FA is one of the last art sites that isn't just some algorithm horror show, a site you could possibly form community on.
I often unfollow artists when their art becomes majority YCH / adopt - I get tired of the reminder spam, among other things, especially when it starts being twice a day or more. I want to see art, y'know? I've actually blacklisted the word 'reminder' just so I'm not wasting my time looking at the same thing over and over, though not everyone bothers to tag it.
This is a useless grumbling. This is what we are now, and it won't change, despite how oversaturated the market is. This is just how it is. I'll keep on the lookout for personal pieces and commissions that are to my taste, and try not to get frustrated otherwise.
