Posted 14 years agoWriting Update
Posted 14 years agoGonna be honest, I haven't actually done any writing in quite a while, despite my to-do list (ye gods that thing's looking big right now). It's cos I've been pretty busy, and I've had zeromotivation to actually sit down and write. And I don't think that's fair on the people I've promised art to.
But I got some interesting feedback on my last journal, the writing meme.
searskagreyraven told me about
poetigress's Thursday Prompt. For those who don't know, the Prompt's a journal that could be anything really, a few words, an idea, anything. And then you write based off of it before the next thursday. I've found in the past that deadlines motivate me, and my writing builds on itself. So this is the perfect way of me getting out of this zero-motivation funk.
I'm also going to set myself a daily word quota. I'm going to start out small, and then gradually build it up. As of this thursday, I'm setting myself a quota of at least 150 words a day. Won't be long before I've got that to-do list finished =3

Posted 14 years ago1. When did you start writing?
I honestly don't know, I've wanted to write a novel for as long as I can remember. If I had to guess though, I'd say it was probably not long after I learned how to write.
2. First drafts: Hand written, typed, or some combination?
Varies. I mostly type my stories, although sometimes I'll have some free time at uni or something and decide to start a story in my notebook
3. Do you keep any kind of writing notebook or writer's journal, and if so, what kind
of things go in it?
As mentioned, I've got a notebook, although it's a general notebook. Literally anything'll go in there, reminders, notes, story ideas, writing, doodles, etc
4. Do you set any quotas for your work (number of words per day, number of hours er
day, ect)? Why or why not?
I don't, mainly cos it's never occurred to me to do so, but also cos I know I wouldn't stick to it. That said, I should give it a try sometime
5. Are you most comfortable writing short stories, novels, or something else?
Right now, short stories
6. What's your favourite kind of story to write?
I don't think I actually have a favourite, tbh
7. Talk about a story of yours that was easy to write and one that was difficult to write,
and why?
Most of my personal stories I find easy to write, although the one that really springs to mind is one that I called "Forever", about an insane stalker. I wrote it one Valentine's Day for a good friend of mine, I spent my breaks working on it. I knew exactly where I was going with it, plus I had to have it finished that day, cos I was doing it as a platonic Valentine's present and I'd only had the idea that morning.
As for difficult, well pretty much any yiff story, cos I always find myself getting a bit frisky and that, for me, just makes writing harder. I'm practising though, I've got a yiff story I wrote posted in my gallery, and I've got several on the back-burner. Hopefully I'll get better =3
8. Which of your characters is closest to your sense of self?
Gotta be the Dogface triplets =P each of their personalities is built around a different part of me, although if I had to choose just one of them, it'd definitely be Dogface himself. I don't see much difference between the two of us, other than obvious stuff like I'm not a furry, I don't have a split personality, I'm nowhere near as innocent as he is, etc. There's a reason he's my 'sona =P
9. What work are you most proud of right now?
Probably my entry to the latest
Worldcraft round, the one with the Death World. I had a lot of fun writing it, and at least one of the contest mods really liked it. I actually sent a copy of the message he sent me to
searskagreyraven, a fellow writer who's a great friend and she's someone who I really look up to when it comes to anything writing related =3
10. What do you feel your strength and weaknesses are as a writer?
A strength I definitely have is that it comes easily, when I've got the inspiration ball rolling, I can just sit and type out a decent story in a single sitting. Unfortunately, for quite a while I've been unmotivated, and actually sitting down and writing is a struggle, I'll always be doing other things instead. I also tend not to proof-read.
11. Name a few writers who have influenced your work in some way.
And now we come to the question I was dreading =P I don't really get influenced by other writers, not that I can see anyway. I could be wrong, my stories could be rather Tolkien-esque, or with J.K Rowling themes or something. But I do read a lot, so there's probably influences in there somewhere. And, just cos she's worth another mention,
searskagreyraven is a writer I really look up to. Hell, if you're watching me for the stories, you should be watching her as well, she's a much better writer than I am.
And one that just sprung to mind, my big sis
hvo45, mainly cos we do a lot of RP and create a lot of charas together, both of which provide inspiration for stories =3
12. Talk about something you've written that you later found embarrassing for some
reason.
Here's where I mention pretty much every yiff story I've written =P But yeah, "Early Birthday Surprise Part 2", while I like the story, and the writing's not bad, I wrote it as the second part of my birthday present to my sis, but the focus ended up being more on my 'sona than on hers. I was quite embarrassed when she pointed that out to me XD I plan on re-writing it sometime though, shifting the focus to her where it belongs =P
13. Talk about the earliest stories you remember writing. What were they about?
Of the early stories, I remember sci-fi was involved, I think one of them had a car chase in it as well as a "it was a dream" ending but done in a way that referenced the start.
14. If you knew you would be successful, what would you most want to write?
I'd want to finally get that damn novel written XD By this point, it's split into two separate novel series that take place in the same canon universe.
15. What inspires you?
Anything really. I can't predict it at all. Looking to my left, the first thing I saw was my keys. That could lead to inspiration for a story about a keymaker, or maybe something completely random that has nothing whatsoever to do with keys.
16. How many projects do you tend to work on at once?
I've always got several stories on the backburner, projects on the go can vary from none to fifty (yes, I'm exaggerating =P)
17. Who reads your work before it's released to the public? Do you have beta readers,
a critique group, ect?
I rarely have beta readers. In a way, you guys /are/ my beta readers. So I'd like to take this opportunity to remind people that constructive criticism is always welcome! =D
18. When you're not writing, what do you do for fun?
Mostly just read webcomics, RP, play on my xbox. Yeah, I have no life =P nah, I do see friends as well, it just usually takes them to organise it =P
19. Advice to other writers?
Keep with it and do a little bit every day. Also: edit, edit and edit again. (sorry amethyst, I thought this was good advice so I kept it =P)
20. What are you currently working on?
See my to-do list =P
21. Share the first three sentences of a work in progress.
Taken from the collab with yadre:
Matthew was crouched in a half-sleep right on the edge of a building's roof, a dim alley below him. He hadn't slept normally since he'd run away from the orphanage years ago, preferring this half-sleep which he could rouse himself from in an instant. He was hungry, he was always hungry, half-sleep did nothing to blot out any kind of pain, especially those caused by hunger.

Idle Chit-Chat
Posted 14 years agoThere was once a journal posted on FA, meant entirely for idle chit-chat, but it was lost long ago. But now it has been found once again! And I give it to you, Dogface. Use it wisely, young one.
That is what the old man said to me. So, any idle chit-chat, go ahead and post it here! =D

Damn you, 47!
Posted 14 years agoRecently got Hitman Blood Money on 360, and I can't do the second level (A Vintage Year) for some reason. I could get Silent Assassin on it on PS2, so why can't I do it on xbox? I know exactly what I have to do to kill the targets and get out with no collateral damage, I just can't do it. >_<
First time through, I got spotted by a guard when I was crouched in the bushes in a restricted area, thought "Fuck it, let's have some fun" and just started shooting, rampaging till they finally took me down. Second time, I was perfect, got into the house, got a VIP Guard uniform and SMG, even put a shotgun in a weapons pickup box. Made the first hit look like an accident, went down to the wine cellar, planted a bomb on a winch ready to get the second target with falling barrels, and waited for the target to get in position while also making sure no one was near the bomb. Then I ran out of time, had a train to catch, meaning I'd have to start from the beginning again.
Every time since then I've been caught by guards doing something I shouldn't be. Several times I've been spotted getting into the house and had a firefight start. One memorable time I started picking a lock and a guard happened to turn and see me. I just don't get it, why can't I do this level anymore? =(
Maybe I'm just too eager to get Silent Assassin first time. I dunno.

Posted 14 years agoWriting Deadline Results
Posted 14 years agoI got one of my requests done. Not brilliant, I'll admit, given that my target was all three, but least I've gotten the ball rolling again =3 I'll post the request I finished when I've made a thumbnail for it (as an aside, what're the thumbnail dimensions on here? Haven't made a thumbnail before)
Writing
Posted 14 years agoIt's time I got back in the game, I've been putting off starting writing again for a few days now, mainly because I find it difficult to get the ball rolling again. So I've decided to set myself a challenge. I'm going to try and get all my requests done by 6pm GMT on Saturday the 11th. After that, I'll go back to doing at least one story a week.

Posted 14 years ago13 Hour Days
I'm currently on 13 hour days, so I'm putting all writing on hold for at least this week, possibly also next week (it's currently unconfirmed what I'm doing next week). And yes, requests are also on hold.
drakon322 will be glad to know that I've made good progress with the tf story, and that it'll be the first piece I post when I'm through this next week/fortnight.
Note that this also means I will probably be slower in replying to comments, but I have no way of predicting that.

Worldcraft
Posted 14 years agoAny of you guys interested in creature design? Cos it's Round 3 of
worldcraft and they don't have too many entrants yet, with only a week till the round ends. You can enter with art or writing, and it's a lot of fun. Hell, I wouldn't be doing this journal if I didn't enjoy it!
Here's the Round 3 details journal: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/2316004/
Think you guys could at least check it out? Cos I really enjoy it, and I don't want to see it fold anytime soon. Journal pimpage would also be appreciated.

The Church of Gamerism
Posted 14 years agoSome of you may have heard of The Church of Gamerism on facebook, some may even be a member. Most, I think, won't have ever heard of it. If you don't know what it's about, it's a new "religion" based around gaming. It's just a bit of a laugh, really :P
So, if you like gaming, check out the church's new website!
http://www.churchofgamerism.co.uk
In honour of its launch, I will, at some point, be creating a group profile on here for the church. And yes, the Pope of Gamerism has given me the green light for it :P
