It's been like 5 months since I've really been around. I keep telling myself to wander back here because honestly you guys are my kind of people. It's just hard with the many distractions I have going on in my life...

Omg, I'm so fucking happy.

I did something I've been meaning to do for years, I finally set up a payment plan with my old school, opening the door to getting my transcripts and moving on. I'm so excited I can't believe it. I'll be throwing as much money as I can at them until it's paid off and I'm free. I'm already looking at schools again and getting hyped up about finally getting what I've wanted so bad for so many years. Ugh. I WANT school. And I'm going.

Everyone is really supportive and plans to help me get to where I need to go. I need this so bad, I know I'll be happy doing this for a living and making a life off of what I love.

Ugh. So pumped. Just thought I'd share.

Alright, It's that time again; Commission Time! I'm reopening slots to take care of bills this month because it looks like I'm going to be really short on funds. Last month I had to take money out of savings, and this month I’m going to need to help my mom with things, too. Unfortunately we live on a really tight budget to begin with, and to top it off they've just cut my hours at work. Time to pimp myself out again! ;)

My goal for the end of this month: $320.

It's not all bad, though! At the end of June I'll actually be appearing at Supercon in Miami... as an artist, not an attendee! Over the past few months I've been honing my traditional skills and I've gotten really confident with my work on paper. So this time I'll be offering stuff on comic board, cardstock and ACEOS in order to build a solid porfolio for when I go. I'm really looking forward to be able to work in this way.

Story Time.

So last saturday I woke up to a text from my sister about getting Saturday off to attend Megacon this year. Usually my work requires a notice longer than a week... but I kind of really wanted to go so I asked my new boss anyway. Making sure she knew that it wasn't a big deal and that I'd work if she couldn't find anyone to replace me.

Well... despite the fact that almost everyone had taken off that saturday, she went out of her way to find someone to replace me. I bounced around with excitement... and was suddenly compelled to print out a portfolio and bring it with me to artist alley to get some feedback and criticism. The morning before we left I printed it all out and put together a really amateur binder of my stuff and brought it with me.

The response was overwhelmingly positive. A lot of people seemed to like my stuff and I had to give my contact info out to several people because I was too dumb to make cards for myself. I got some valuable feedback and a lot of wonderful critique. I was so inspired and validated and omg it was amazing....

But that was not the best part.

One of the people I showed my portfolio to gave me a picture to line for him... when I brought it back to him he told me to meet him at Patsios at 1 a day later.

That was today... He's the CEO of a local comic publishing company and he hired me onto his team. I'm to apprentice under him and he's going to give me several simple jobs like coloring and toning line art by other artists for him. But today he also gave me a full blown project that I'm to do all of the art for. He's gonna teach me all that he knows about the comics industry and keep me on as a house artist. He loves my work and wants me to grow with the company.

I know they're only a small local company... but like... today was absolutely overwhelming. He wants to establish a following for me and make me into something... Does this happen to people?

This is like, a dream come true. And its like everything lined up for me to have this opportunity... I'm still in total shock. He also said that when the project I'm doing with Nat is ready he would totally publish it for us. Holy shit.

Omg... omg. Just thought I'd share.

For those of you who don't know about Artslam, its a drawing community on LJ thats focused on three months straight drawing everyday. You pick a concept and for at least 30 days do art for it.

So its 90 days of drawing everyday. Its hardcore.

Omg. A surprise vacation back up to Washington should be a GREAT thing! Well, it IS a great thing. I get to see my lady again. I get to go to my favorite state and chill with her awesome family. Go to a wedding, a weird Al concert and possibly wander around Spokane. In general get some much needed time away from my pretty stressful day to day.

She paid for the tickets and has offered to help pay for the time off I'm taking at work (seeing as I don't get paid vacation). But seeing as I'm stubborn... I can't stand the thought of her dropping all that money on me. So I'd like to try making enough to cover the $300 something dollars I'll be missing on my own.

So I redesigned my commissions list and got some advice on prices. Then I finally made an advertisement!

I'm home from my most wonderful vacation! I'm sorry I didn't get more done, but I was very busy. Now that I'm home I intend to finish up the commissions you all have bought. Thanks again, you guys and sorry for the delay.

So I broke my mom's brakes. I drove with the E-brake on and now I'm sure I've worn her brakes down to the metal. Two days before I leave to go see Nat I fucking derp out and ruin her brakes. I think they may have needed servicing... but my stupid fucking mistake has finished them off. They grind when I drive them and in general sound majorly unpleasant. I'm praying I have not damaged her drums, but if I have I'm going to pay for it. Whether its just the shoes or the drums too it's going to be in the neighborhood $150-$350 XC.

In either case this will be eating into my fairly small vacation stash. But I refuse to let my mother drive around in an unsafe car. To complicate the situation my own car stalled on the high way the other day so its going to need to be looked at. So I don't want her driving that one either.
