Oi. So much shit has happened over the past few months. Cody (Nucky) and I are solidly done after 6 years, I'm not going to shit talk him despite the fact that I REALLY COULD and would be totally fucking justified... but whatever. That chapter is over. Done.

I'm currently dating a kickass chick named Kalie who I adore to death, we're taking things slowly since we've both been hurt a ton in the past but I have high hopes. She brings some things into my life I've been missing for a long time... honesty, trust, and not to mention christ is that girl gorgeous I am like HOOOOW DID I SNAG HER I don't even know. o.o; She's also a furry, coincidentally. Yay. :3

So I'm posting this here so I can vent without causing any huge drama over on Facebook.

I started volunteering at this parrot sanctuary maybe 3-4 weeks ago. I agreed to do 1 day per week, 3 hours at a time, on Mondays- when they needed people most, because a lot of people work and it is hard for them to find people to help out. I also donated a fair bit of money, money I really DON'T have- because I love the birds so much, and they needed the help badly.

2 weeks ago, I got bit by one of the African Greys, which (obviously) hurt and was a pretty bad bite at least by my standards. He was unfamiliar with me and I do not fault him one bit, I love the birds like crazy and would never do that. I was working on food/water bowl cleaning at the time which involves food, feces, etc. coming into direct contact with your hands in a bucket with a sponge. So, the woman in charge takes me over to the kitchen, puts ice on the wounds, triple antibiotic and slaps on some bandaids. Then, I was *right back to cleaning food and water dishes* in the same manner I had been. I was in kind of a haze at the time because I was so shocked that the bird actually bit me (I figured it'd happen at some point but still, first bite is a bit of a shock) so I just got back into the rhythm of cleaning. Open wounds, plus food, plus feces. I could have easily gotten a VERY bad infection from that whole ordeal, but I didn't complain. I smiled, I finished my work, I went home.

The next week my fingers were still not healed, still open wounds and still soft, a lot of the meat was still exposed on the padding of my left middle finger and since all the "grunt work" involved a lot of contact with bacteria I resolved to spend the time working on revamping the sanctuary's website using my IT background. They need a HUGE overhaul because at this point it looks like a Geocities page from the 90's with the animations, background, etc. I sent a note to the head honcho explaining what I was doing, prototyping the site, and that I would be back next week (tomorrow).

Last week, a nasty Facebook post showed up on my newsfeed. "So knowing you'll be working with birds don't you think you might assume a nip or two at some point? Honey thank you for your help but that's a scratch, stick around and I'll show you what a parrot bite looks like Lol hee hee hee"

Keep in mind, this individual knows I am undergoing anxiety/panic/depression therapy right now and that is the whole reason I am down there- and she posts this. I found it incredibly insulting, rude, and unprofessional, especially considering the amount of professional time and effort I was putting into helping with her Search Engine Optimization and giving her site an entire overhaul. For *FREE*.

I had a whole rant I was going to give in an e-mail, a professional e-mail, about me quitting due to the lack of professionalism exemplified by staff, unsanitary treatment of injuries, lack of compassion for the people in favor of only the animals- but my dad stopped me. He said, "Take the high road. Think about what I am telling you. Just tell her you won't be back and that's it. In a week or two, when you've come down emotionally, think about it again."

And he's right. I could have sent back a seething e-mail that would make her feel like a horrible person. Whether she deserves to know the honest truth or not about her behavior and the fact that THIS is probably the reason why her big dreams of a huge sanctuary with flight cages and freedom for the animals are not coming true, is beside the point. Me writing that e-mail, me responding to that negativity with MORE negativity, compounding the drama, would just stress me out even more, and set back my recovery. Who would it help? What reason would she have to take any of my words to heart anyway?

I have a paper taped to the mirror in my bedroom here, from a therapy session last week. It's called "Philosophy of Self Esteem." One of the points in this fits perfectly with this situation, and that's what I'll close this journal with.

"If people treat me discourteously or disrespectfully, it is a reflection on them, not on me. It is only a reflection on me if I accept their treatment of me as right."

So it breaks my heart but my medical bills are high and I am in dire straights right now. my short term disability may or may not be extended, i don't know, and i still have a mortgage on the townhouse to pay until we can sell it... and even if we sell it, we will probably be paying money out of pocket for closing costs. :(

So thanks to me and my mom, the parrot sanctuary got what they needed to rescue the three birds I mentioned in my previous journal. They are such beautiful birds! One is named Tito and has a Spanish accent (he says "hola Tito" :3) and was such a good boy. I fell in love with the umbrella cockatoo, Rawley, who has never been handled but has such potential to be a great adoptable bird once she has been socialized. She hasn't talked yet but from what I heard her previous owners got her from a British woman so she could very well have a British accent xD I got her dancing, crest up and wings out, which makes me so happy. I also got one of our other cockatoos, lily grace, singing. Aside from getting my fingers nommed on by our african grey pickles (he doesn't trust me yet). Mondays are my regular volunteer schedule now :)

Got a call back from the Parrot Sanctuary tonight and spoke with a wonderful woman who sounded so in love with the birds!!! I just e-mailed my volunteer application!!! I could start as early as Friday or Monday! SO EXCITED TO JOIN THE FLOCK!!! :D

So I am going to be calling a local parrot rehab and sanctuary tomorrow to see if they could use a volunteer Monday and Friday while I am down here in FL going through therapy. I love birds, not a lot of experience with parrots but they teach you how to interact with them so I am looking forward to it. They have a ton of posts looking for volunteers everyday so I am pretty confident they'll be able to use me :)

Sorry for the flood of pictures, guys. I'm putting up photos from when  Nucky and I took my little cousin Chloe to SeaWorld yesterday. I had a lot of fun despite some stressful phone calls during the day and took a ton of photos, not posting all of them just some of my favorites. :)

So Nucky knows he doesn't really get to choose which base he gets stationed at for the air force if he passes his exams and everything, but you do get to make a list of preferred bases so we are doing a good bit of research into that. Right now we have a few on our domestic list... (in no particular order)

MacDill AFB near South Tampa, FL
Travis AFB near Fairfield, CA
Luke AFB near Glendale, AZ
Peterson AFB near Colorado Springs, CO

Our international list is small but so far we are thinking of Rammstein in Germany or the base in Okinawa, Japan.

If you've been in the air force and have any experience with any of these bases, we definitely appreciate any feedback or suggestions :) We are basing the decision on a couple of things:

1. things to do on or very near to the base - shopping, food, movies, entertainment
2. base that is in a relatively friendly area with no crazy politics (I am pretty liberal in most respects and I will get into fights otherwise x.x;)
3. Beautiful natural area/wildlife

So... Yeah.

Distinct possibility that I could be married in the next few months. If Nucky does well on the ASVAB and the Air Force wants him we will be getting married as we are engaged anyway and it will allow us to get more pay/benefits. Don't know yet if we'll do a quickie style shindig or do the legal stuff sooner and the actua ceremony later but I am just trying to process being married in a few months vs. in 1-2 years :o

Just letting you all know that I may have some suits/parts for sale in the next few weeks.  Nucky and I are staying with my parents in Orlando, FL right now as I go through therapy for anxiety/panic/depression, and we are also doing a huge reevaluation of our finances. We are in bad shape, mostly because of how expensive it is living where we do plus my job being the only income. Also, all of the medical expenses related to my treatment are causing problems, having my mail forwarded here so I will get my bills, and not knowing whether or not I am going to be approved for short term disability for maybe another month... As such I am probably going to have to put some things up for sale. Nucky is also considering joining the Air Force so we may be uprooting everything in the next 6 months to a year... which includes having a quickie wedding. Still evaluating things and trying to weigh our options.

Anyway, the things that are most likely to be sold are 1) airbrushed realistic wolf head by Sharpe. This head is absolutely gorgeous, but I haven't been able to commission any partial pieces (paws or tail) for it yet to match the airbrushing so it hasn't been used at all. It is a beautiful, beautiful piece in new condition. 2) and this one really totally breaks my heart- Starbuck flunny by DHC. This is one of my personal characters, of a species that I created myself and has a huge giant backstory tied to it. I love her so much and she is a gorgeous suit but the choice was between her, Tikka, and Houdini- and where Tikka is my main and I could never part with her it was really between her and Houdini :/ I can count on 2 hands the number of times she has been worn (and when I say times I mean total times not total conventions/events) so she is in like new condition.

If you have any interest in these, let me know. If I know you personally at this point you will be given earlier consideration, otherwise everyone else will have to wait until we get back to PA and I can physically box things up and get them ready to sell. The money will go towards paying down our credit card debt which includes costs related to my treatment.

So Nucky took me to the emergency room this morning, where I promptly had another barrel-you-over panic attack. Wasn't as bad as last night's episode but enough that staff was going crazy trying to get my breathing under control and my phosphorus levels were extremely low. Anyway... rather than bore you with that... the plan of attack is that I am going down to Florida for at least the next week to be with my family and try to recover. I am going to be getting in touch with a clinic down there that handles anxiety/depression/panic from an intensive outpatient care perspective and see what my next steps are. If they evaluate me and say I need treatment (which is pretty much a given) I will be living there for a few weeks until things are sorted out and go on short-term disability at work.

I hate this so much. I wish I could just wake up everyday and be happy but I'm not. I get anxious and panic over the stupidest little things, and I KNOW it is stupid, but I can't control it. You just feel so alone and helpless and there is no one to hold on to because the people you DO hold on to you feel guilty about making THEM have to go through it. I just want to be in a place where I am happy with my life and with myself and have a normal healthy level of stress and not the kind that makes me hate everything and just want to give up.

This is not a meme, but just a general info post I decided to make to give you the low-down on my AC plans.

Travel plans:
I will be arriving on the late morning/early afternoon of Thursday, July 4th and leaving late morning/early afternoon of Monday, July 8th. I will be driving myself and  Nucky.


Hotel plans:
We will be staying at the Westin with  NeonSlushie and  LtBlaze. Our room is a chill room for relaxing between suiting, sleeping, and whatnot- it's not a party room so don't come knocking looking for booze ;P


Con plans:
*SUITING-I will be suiting the vast majority of the con. I am bringing Tikka, Starbuck, and Houdini,  Nucky will be wearing Houdini.

*PANELS- I am not going to many panels, we will go to Uncle Kage's Story Hour and 2's show most definitely, also watch the dance comp finals, but other than that we're not gonna bother.

*FOOD- We will probably be eating wherever is close, cheap, and won't make me sick. We WILL however be at the Super Sponsor luncheon as 1) we bothered spending the crazy money to do it and 2) it's free food so more money to spend on shenanigans later.

*DRINKING- I am relaxing my no drinking rule this con. Typically I am a soda-only drinker at cons and will not drink alcohol, but since this is the last con we will be going to this year it is kind of a last hurrah for me until 2014 and I need to just unwind and let go of a lot of bullshit I have gone through the past year or so. I will not drink vodka, vodka always makes me sick. I am sticking to things that don't taste disgusting, so mostly rum and coke, jack and ginger, that sort of thing. My goal is not to get drunk off my butt, it's to relax enough to calm down my anxiety and be sociable.  Nucky is responsible for keeping me in check, the buddy system is a very very good thing :P

*LATE NIGHT- We're going to be out late pretty much every night. I am old, late for me is like 2 or 3 AM. ;P I will have no time to train for this late night staying up-ness so I will probably try to nap at some point on Thursday to prepare.

*DEALER'S DEN- I will be spending all my money. Okay, not literally- but I will spend a shit ton undoubtedly on lots of things. I've got one badge, a custom embroidered bandana, and a pudgie necklace to pick up already and the con hasn't even started yet!!! I saved up a bunch of money in preparation for this so all bets are off. I am reserving $250 for food because  Nucky and I are piglets and also because I need to put a cap on myself spending-wise or else we will get in trouble. ;P
