My Deviant Art Account
Posted 2 years agoFinally did something with the DA account after 15 years. Posted a few experiments with the dreaded AI. https://www.deviantart.com/roy-seigfried
I'd rather commission someone to do the art but it was an interesting free experiment.

Wolves in Yavapai County
Posted 2 years agoRecently I've seen photographic evidence of Wolves in my area of Arizona. Since the late 1990s there has been a Mexican wolf (Canis lupus baileyi) reintroduction program going on in Western New Mexico and Eastern Arizona - the Blue Range area. A few years ago Fish & Game announced that the Wolves would end up in Yavapai County within 5 years. 2 different people I know who live up in the Bradshaw Mountains have shown me photos of Wolf Tracks in the snow and one image of what is clearly a Wolf sniffing around a shed on their property. Once the snow clears from the Bradshaws I'm going to do a bit of hiking to see if I can find any sign of the pack. Some years ago I was in the Blue Range area and heard one of the packs there howling. I did a few howls and them to the reply - I used to own a Husky/Wolf mix and would howl with her - got to be rather good at it.
Easy A
Posted 2 years agoStumbled on this https://www.foxnews.com/us/boston-c.....ies-come-class
Well I'd say anyone on FA would pass that class easily... Heck I worked up my first fursona when I was in grad school in the early 1990s

Old Radio Signal
Posted 2 years agoI was looking at some news websites and this caught my eye :
Radio signal from 9 billion light-years away from Earth captured
A radio signal from 9 billion light years away from Earth has been captured in a record-breaking recording, reports said this week.
Most likely just radio noise from star formation, etc but my first thought was what would it be if the signal was decoded.
"Be sure to absorb your Flargletine".....

Alice Cooper
Posted 3 years agoWell I'm catching an Alice Cooper concert tonight - Start of a Tour and it is in my town - Prescott Valley. Should be fun and something different for me. Heard his music over the years and listen to his nightly radio show a lot - M thru F 7 pm to Midnight 96.7 FM - The Wolf (Local station that carries his show) I'm saying this is my early birthday present to myself - turn 58 in 9 days.
Follow Up Health Update
Posted 3 years agoWell I'm doing a lot better now that I've been on Metformin and a diet change to control my Type 2 Diabetes. Less body pain, no running to the WC every 10 minutes, etc. Watching my glucose levels at work - I'm active there and can run low if I am not careful.
Health Update
Posted 3 years agoThe last few years I've had some issues with numb feet and finger tips. The past month I'd been really feeling the effects of heat and humdity -AZ Monsoon season has been a good one but it was kicking my tail. Went to the medical clinic last Saturday and they found I had high blood sugar - Monday and Thursday this week were busy with more blood work and a visit to a new Doctor. I'm on Metformin now and doing another diet change - so I have to watch the carbs/sugars while on a Gluten Free diet - so much for all the rice based stuff I'd been eating. Day 2 of being on the pills and the feet and fingers are feeling better and I don't feel so damn exhausted all the time.
D'oh!
Posted 3 years agoThought I'd turned the AC off when I left for work this morning - energy saving measure. I come home after 5:30pm AZ Standard time and find the house to be 110F and very humid - had put the heat on by mistake and it just kept running. At least its cool outside - monsoon storm dropped the temps from the 90s to the low 70s this afternoon- best part of being in the AZ Central highlands
Three Dog Night
Posted 3 years agoFound out Three Dog Night are on their 50th Anniversary tour this year, will be in my town July 17 - a Sunday - not sure why i thought it was Friday.... Just bought a ticket. Feeling a bit old, the band started when I was 7 years old - going on 8. I'm currently 57 going on 58.
A good day out and test drive.
Posted 4 years agoI took my stepmother out for the day - we both needed to get away from the TV. I'd recently bought and assembles a new wheelchair for her, a Roughrider Whirlwind - designed to operate on grass, dirt and other places standard chairs can't go. She lost her right leg almost 6 years ago due to circulation issues - above the knee. She had missed getting out in her garden and visiting various outdoor places. https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachme.....911_164520.jpg Now she can get around easily, but with someone to assist her when needed. We were at a local Ranch / Winery - DA Ranch. She'd been there before but hadn't been able to fully explore the place till now. Best $800 I've spent in a long time was on that chair
Another Fragging Fire
Posted 4 years agoArizona has been hit with another forest fire - the Backbone Fire - started on June 16 by a lightening strike. Burning in the boundry areas of Gila and Yavapai Counties. https://www.azcentral.com/story/new.....ed/7763735002/ Lot of people and animals evacuated from the towns of Pine and Strawberry. Roads into there and Payson are closed. I work in Payson several days of the week, had a hell of a time getting home on Friday - had to take the one open section of road down to Phoenix then head back north to where I live. 2 hour commute became about 4 and a half hours - got home well after 10 pm. I'm worried for all the locals and the wildlife in that area. It is fantastic country but bone dry from the drought.
Local Zoo Event
Posted 4 years agoNotice in my local newspaper: Upcoming Events: Breakfast With Eagles, Heritage Park Zoo
Sounds good to me, I'll have the Rainbow Trout with a side of Hashed Brown Mice....
A few years ago they advertised Breakfast with Cassie the Tiger.. I was hoping for Steak - got a lousy continental breakfast while she got the Steak.....

Face Palm
Posted 4 years agoI'm a lurker on FARK.com for almost 17 years. I've seen some odd news items but this one just left me shaking my head.
https://www.health.gov.au/initiativ....._content=link&ICID=ref_fark
Some of the folks in my area are worried the vaccine will alter their DNA - I've been replying "Great, now I can get my Celiac Disease cured and get some nice custom mods done." They tend to move away slowly...

Spring Training is over.
Posted 4 years agoWorked my last 2021 MLB Spring Training Game today. Been interesting, ended up learning a bit about Baseball and picked up a few items - A batting Practice baseball that landed near my car, a piece of a carbon fiber prop from a large drone that crashed at the stadium - some company was showing how they could spray disinfectant on stadium seats from a quad rotor. Was great till the wind gusted and sent it right into the seats, and a couple of discounted T Shirts for the short lived 2020 Spring Training - thanks to Covid 19. Was odd being at a ball park that could hold 10000 fans but was limited to under 2000 fans this year per game - social distancing rules from MLB
Spring Training
Posted 4 years agoWell I'm doing gate security at one of the Cactus League Spring Training Fields in the Phoenix Area. Rather interesting change of pace for me. Fans are permitted entry but stadium capacity is 1/4 of normal. Still good to see folks getting out and watching the Baseball players practicing. I'll post some pics from the Stadium in the near future.
Dental Fun
Posted 4 years agoWell I went in for my usual teeth cleaning this Monday - told the dentist the one tooth with a crack - had been cracked since I had braces fitted back in 1977 was finally really bothering me. Some fast imaging done and well it was time to get a crown or wait for it to get worse and have a root canal. I went with doing the Crown. Dental work doesn't bother me, the smell of burnt teeth from grinding does. Very happy I didn't smell any this time - doc did good work. Temp crown in place and the replacement - made from scans of the original is being made in a lab and will be ready in a month. i'll just be glad to not have that tooth hurt during pressure changes. Had really bugged when while driving too and from work sites at higher elevations - 7000 to 9000 foot above sea level.
Job Change
Posted 5 years agoWell after 5 years doing Industrial security work, I resigned. Just got fed up with a bunch of bullshit from one boss, the company I was with and some from the Client. A former boss and a former coworker had been trying to recruit me to another company - decided to take the plunge. Pay is higher and the work is guarding State Children's Services offices. I'm on the Road a few days a week - paid for travel time and the 10 hour shift. On paid standby the rest of the work week - no nights or weekends
Javelina close encounter
Posted 5 years agoWalked up on a Javelina at work near the hanger row at the Airport in Prescott AZ. It was in a fenced area along a wash that divides the airport from the factory I work at.

Quail
Posted 5 years agoWell just discovered I have Gamble's Quail nesting in some ground cover by my bedroom window. Thought I'd heard them in the morning but finally caught sight of the parent birds today. Now if they were Gambling Quail I might have someone to play Blackjack with....
Stuck at Home
Posted 5 years agoWell I came down with a fever after a weekend trip - thought it was from getting too much sun - nasty burn on my arms from not wearing sunscreen by a lake at 9500 foot / 3km altitude. Had a cough to go with it, went to the ER yesterday, Long story short - have a nasty sinus infection - will be on strong antibiotics for 10 days and was Covid 19 tested - waiting on the results of that one. So for now I'm in Covid jail
Last Plains War Chief
Posted 5 years agoI just saw this on the news https://www.cbsnews.com/news/last-s.....p;ICID=ref_fark
I met Joe Medicine Crow back in 1987 in Cody Wyoming while taking summer college credit classes in Plains Indian History. He was a very impressive man who was the first member of the Crow Nation to earn a Masters Degree. He was also their last traditional war chief who did his tribe's war deeds during WW2. One of his relatives was one of Custer's scouts at the Little Big Horn. Farewell my teacher.

AZ Stay at Home Order
Posted 5 years agoWell the State of Arizona is under a stay at home order effective 3/31/2020 after 5 pm local time. I'm in an essential profession - Armed Security and will still be working. I'm also caring for an elderly stepmother with limited mobility - lost her right leg above the knee a few years ago and she has had lung cancer in the recent past. Bit stressful to say the least. I did a grocery run for her this morning - looks a bit like an end of the world movie - so few cars out and most businesses are closed. I hope everyone of you out there stays safe and healthy.

I loved his work even though it is a bit formula - still a fun read. Farewell to an Arizona Resident.

Dad and Mom - Rest in Peace.
Posted 6 years agoI picked up dad's ashes today, had thought I was just getting the death certificates. Emotions all over the place right now but I'll get thru it. I think I'll wait till the AZ Monsoon is over before I spread his ashes along side mom's up on the Mountain - they should be together. Been a long time since she passed in 2003.
Update: Yesterday - 9/14/2019 I placed Dad's ashes up with Mom's on the Peaks outside of Flagstaff. Bit of a shock when I rolled back a certain large rock that had been undisturbed for years - I could tell Mom was still there. Both of them are together now after 16 years. Huge boulder as a memorial and a nice spruce and aspen grove around them. They both loved hiking that one trail when mom was still lucid enough to go out (early stages of Alzheimers.)
