Final update (goodbye FA)
General | Posted 2 years agoI have officially given up. I no longer have any passion to work on art. In the last two years I've done only about five sketches, most never finished. I was on insta for a short time before they immediately fucked over every artists trying to become tictoc. YouTube as well has been getting shittier and shittier, and will take down videos that use anything copyrighted regardless of fair use or a lack of actual monetization on the chanel (to clarify, i dont make money on my videos, but yt will still play adds on them, and take them down if I use music I'm not expressly allowed to use, if you don't know, fair use is a LAW that is supposed to protect works made without profit, I should be allowed to make videos with whatever song i want cause I'm not making money off it)
I've had a shit run in the fandom as well in all honesty, drama is absurd, even if I try to ignore it it gets dragged up by everyone, people I fallow cause I like their art often turn out to be pedos or zoos and many i have no clue about cause i try to avoid drama so much. I tried to sell a character on amino ages ago and it only ever was liked, so I did a (very bad idea) pole asking why, turns out $20 was too expensive, so I lowered it to $15, then $10, and finally $5, the character had a ref sheet, and three art pieces, and still people thought it was too expensive, so I made it a trade, and took the only offer I got cause i was just tired of seeing something i was so proud of be shit on so much that i grew a distain for that character. I left amino after only a few weeks.
I sort of blame myself for my lack of real interactions in the fandom. I messed up. I was hopeful I could do the art I wanted and make some free art for others. But now that I struggle so heavily I have a base of people who only care about getting in on free art, and they don't care about anything else I make, and no one is really willing to commission me (except one person who still seems to want to commission me, you know who you are and I really appreciate you, I just don't have the motivation to do anything anymore, and I'm sorry)
At this point, I'm only lucky that my sister is my land lord and hasn't kicked me out. Ive been jobless for a year, and owe a whole year of back rent. My days consist of spending every waking moment trying to not let myself become paralyzed with depression, any time I don't spend trying to distract myself, I spend cleaning, cooking, and making applications, so I don't burden my sister, who is still burdened regardless cause she is in dept, and I haven't been able to pay any rent in a whole year (aside from two dog/house sitting jobs for a friend and one quilt commission from a family friend, all money of Wich, just went right to my sister)
I've followed and watched as artists gain a legitimate fan base for silly little doodles, I watched them improve and get swamped with commissions and comments gradually, and every time, these small artists I follow grow exponentially, in a year someone with the same following as my own, becomes a success with thousands of people praising anything they make throwing money at them without even getting any art, just to help them, I'm not mad at them, but I am mad that I don't know what it is I keep doing wrong that leaves me unnoticed. I've always been someone who isn't seen, is forgotten, gone unnoticed, standing in front of people, even when talking to them. I don't know why that is, or why it seems to be the case even online.
I feel this site is still the best for aspiring artists, it was the best site for me, I got more interactions here, than I have anywhere else (as cringe as I was a few years ago, I was still a kid through most of my time on this site, Im 25 as of writing this)
My main issue is capitalism (specifically US hell) in all honesty, I hate that people have become businesses, that creative freedom online is basically dead. I don't want to upload or add anything about my own worlds or characters and story online anymore because I can't afford the legal protection to keep people (mainly bigger corporations and people already better off than me) from just taking everything I've done and making money off it while I sit in obscurity.
I just want to live and be able to share art, but the Internet isn't a place for that anymore, it's a capitalist hellscape where the only opportunities are for easy money and building your business, and anything that ends up online without the legal protection is just free ideas for everyone else to profit off of.
Idk if it's been noticed, but I haven't been on this site for over two years now. I only came on today to make this post so I can stop feeling obligated to upload things no one cares about.
I just know, if I'm ever gonna come back, it will be under a new account, with a different name, to start over, so that may be I can get people who are legitimately interested in what I make. It won't be for a while. I need to clean up after four people, I need to train my sisters dog, I need to find a job, I need to work until I pay off all my back rent, and I need a mental break.
I have been somewhat uploading things on my Tumblr if anyone wants to see what I've managed to make sense I've ghosted this site, not my main blog but HrpDrpDoesArt
I probably still will put whatever I make up on my Tumblr, but it's not gonna be a lot.
Oh, I also have a red bubble that I'm gonna eventually delete cause I never got money for the few stickers I know sold cause it was family and friends who bought the stickers, so clearly that's a waste where a company is just leaching me for profit.
I'm so all over the place, even this journal is jumping from one thing to another, I don't even know what I'm doing anymore, i don't even think I'm really living anymore, I think things i never should be thinking that I dont want to say publicly, I can't tell when I'm being fucked over or if I'm being selfish. I barely can motivate myself to eat anymore unless it's food that was actively offered to me, most of Wich is not healthy cause it comes from my bf who only likes chocolate, chicken nuggets and potatoes, and I can't just ask him for food I really want cause it's so expensive and he's been struggling with money and rent lately too, and i don't want to make him spend his money on food he won't eat, cause he absolutely will miss a weeks rent to get food to make me feel better.
The only things that have been keeping me from my darkest moments, has been my bf, my dog, and this game I've been obsessing over that really deserves more attention, bomb rush cyberfunk, it's not expensive, and 100% worth your time, makes me wish I played jet set games as a kid and actually inspired me to draw again after a year of not drawing anything, even if I still haven't done much more than sketches.
If anyone actually sees this, and reads through making it to the end, I hope you have a better time than I have, I hope you actually find commissions if your looking for them, I hope you find interactions on your posts and make friends. I've spent literally 15 years trying to make something, but I still don't really know what I want, only what I'm expected to do, and I'm sure that Im just an anomaly, and that if you try your best, you will succeed where I have failed, I've seen it time and time again, I've watched creators rise from nothing, I've seen them regain a following after huge drama scandals, I'm just not cut out for it, I'm sure you can make it.

Status and info on gorgonpups
General | Posted 5 years agoThis will serve as a record of information on the species, "gorgonpup" currently (closed) as well as bits of information on other things on the planet (currently nameless)
(Subject to change, may become an info page for whole planet one day)
[Basic info]
There are two subspecies of gorgonpup, forest, and mountain, the males in both tend to be slightly smaller. Gorgonpup and all other life on this planet mutate wildly, as they are exposed to more solar radiation than most planets. The sun that it happens to orbit is a pulsar with a tilted rotation, so once a year, complex life needs to retreat underground and anything on the surface gets blasted by concentrated radiation from the suns poles and dies off, many plants have evolved ways to either have their seeds survive, or have evolved a type of protection against it. This time only lasts for 3-5 days.
[Mountain]
Mountain gotgonpups are large, fluffy, and strong, with long tails and ears. They are excellent hunters, and make homes they live in near designated caves for when the suns rays pass over the planet. They live in large tribes, and have a complex, picture based written language. The mountains they live on are more like massive plateaus, separated by deep canyons that hold the forests, with a few spiky mountains that jut up randomly. Mountain gorgonpups also craft tools, and often do body modification, with tattoos, piercings, and carvings on horns or teeth, being the most common.

Forest gorgonpups are small, agile and have short tails and ears. Along with hunting, forest gorgonpup will often scavenge, they are not the top predators in the forest and are often hunted by a much larger one that the mountain gorgonpups don't deal with. Forest gorgonpups don't make permanent homes, instead, they sleep whenever they can wherever they find a safe spot to do so, and only carry what they need. Forest gorgonpups,
live in small family groups, and have a spoken language, but not a written one. The forests the live in are dense, and filled with all kinds of foliage, mainly being large trees wich have spiraling roots that tangle boulders, they die out each year but the seed pods are nearly boulders themselves, and the trees grow quickly. The trees canopies spread wide and block out most light, the forest is dark, and full of much mystery.

It started as a doodle of an imagination of my fave dino, gorgonopsid, with fluffy fur, then in highschool i had a speculative zoology project and went a bit ham. I brought back and redesigned 3 other creatures I had as well as the gorgonpup, and created a planet with moons and a crazy star. Im a big nerd, paleontology, zoology, space, etc.. So I kept building the planet for fun, and now im here. I also started animating and am doing a huge animation that will show allot more of the planet, mainly through tails written in a mountain gorgonpup book, but it will show off more of the species I have made for this planet, including the dessert.

Tablet not working
General | Posted 6 years agoAn annoing issue actually, it moves but doesn't know when the pen is touching right away, and nothing i looked up could fix it, so I'm just gonna be uploding some old art, maybe trying to finish some of my many sketches left to be forgotten. At least until I figure out what is wrong with my tablet.

Im not sure what i left behind on here, if i had art for others i was supposed to finish, idk, but im in a good mood now and will be coming out with some new art soon! maybe a new character or two! but for today i have this shitty journal, and a new icon i drew, took ages to do but im gproud of how it turned out (even though i couldnt get it to be transparent for some reason)
im sorry for my on and off with my art, ive just been at it so long and got too worried about how i dont get commissions realy, i thought about uploding to more sites but most other sites i cant navigate for the life of me, and furry amino is just too full of artists underselling themselves for anyone to make decent commissions, i am on art amino though, and have posted some stuff there...including a wip ill never finish.

On the 21st through the 31st of October, post a journal/tweet/etc that's called LIGHTS ON
This shows that your "porch light" is on and you're accepting Trick or Treaters.
People can come to your journal/tweet/etc and comment "Trick or Treat!" or whatever other code words you'd like to use.
At which point, the creator of the journal can offer up small sketches or the like as treats for who comments.
And, as to not overwhelm people, you can set a limit as to how many trick or treaters you'll take.
Everyone runs out of candy eventually! Once you hit your limit you can change your journal to Lights off or closed, etc.
I feel this could be a chance for some people to get some art and have fun while doing it as well~
Also, please don't be greedy! Be courteous to your other Trick or Treaters!
Please share this around on Tele, Twitter, FA, Weasyl, wherever, so more people can participate!

So why not do something fun online?
Concept:
On the 30th of October, post a journal that's called LIGHTS ON
This shows that your "porch light" is on and you're accepting Trick or Treaters.
People can come to your journal and comment "Trick or Treat!" or whatever other code word you'd like to use.
At which point, the creator of the journal can offer up small sketches or the like as treats for who comments.
And, as to not overwhelm people, you can set a limit as to how many trick or treaters you'll take.
Everyone runs out of candy eventually! Once you hit your limit you can change your journal to Lights off or closed, etc.

Necessary rant (please read if you have the time)
General | Posted 8 years agoWith my wanting to get commissions started, i've been looking at popular artists to see what their prices are like, and so far they've been reasonably priced for the quality/time that made each piece up. I wont say who, but i just went to a really popular artists page (one i only heard of, never went to their page till today) and was very disappointed. I saw their art, and enjoyed it. i thought i could have them as one of the first commission i buy once i get some money, thought about watching them. but then i wanted to see their prices, took forever, was frustrating.
but that's not all, once i got some sort of info, it said they would draw a flat color bust for 150-200$ witch is absolutely ridiculous. Yea artists that decide to make art their carer need to be able to make enough money to live off of, but not one drawing a day. there was allot of drama about stuff i had now idea about, i could have nothing but a bad view of them because they hid half of the argument, and the actual price the drama started with. so i couldn't tell if they were being unfairly ridiculed, they just seamed like they were salty someone pointed out how unfair they were being.
if your not doing art that requires expensive supplies, or excessive time working on it, then it should never be over 100$. as for medias of art, its just dependent on the artist. for some people, digital art takes lots of time, hours of work, sometimes days. but for other people it can be easier because of layers and CTRL Z.
I find traditional art easier to make in a timely fashion with the quality i want, but the supplies are quite costly. digital depends, as of right now i have no art programs like gimp or paint tool sai, i just use mspaint, and only recently did i get a tablet, before a digital drawing with fluffy details and shading, would take me 9-10 hours, but they never turned out how i wanted. when i got the tablet, it took a while to get used to, but once i did it cut 3 hours off my drawing time, but because of how paint works, i still ended up using the mouse and curve too to do the actual lines, sketch and shading i do with the tablet, i havent tried gimp with the tablet, but i know i didn't like it when i had it for this drawing http://www.furaffinity.net/view/16892336/
it took me nearly 20 collective hours to finish it.
I do so many kinds of art, i paint (acrylic,oil,water), i draw (traditional, digital) and i do so much more (like make fursuits and sculpt with clay) and there's things i do with my family at times, like crochet or set up shadowboxes. so i know that all those forms of art are not that different, they all require skill, tools, inspiration, time, and effort. inspiration is a big thing too, people get mad and blow up when they spot similarities in 2 separate artists. but things that have been created, anything, and everything HAD/NEEDED inspiration from somewhere. like paper, it was first made by wasps to build their nests, the nests were used for things(not 100% sure/cant remember) and at some point someone realized if they did the same thing, they could make paper too.
EXAMPLES AND CLARIFICATION OF RANT
I have seen way too many people that have no idea how to price their art. And even more so, i've seen people who try to make a living off of their art, make it their carer, and have absolutely no knowledge of economics. i'm lucky enough to have grown up in Michigan, because economics is a required coarse here. supply and demand is ignored by most, so is knowing about wages. if you know about how long a drawing will take (lets say 3 hours) and how much per hour is a decent wage/income (based on your skill/how long you have been drawing art, let say you've been drawing for 10 years and your anatomy is decent, i say slightly above minimum wage, for me that would be about 10$ an hour) and then you'll get how much its worth (10$ an hour for 3 hours is 30$ perfectly reasonable!) now, lets say you have been drawing for only 5 years, but your art quality (knowledge of shading/color/anatomy/poses) is amaze balls, you could give your self more for your art, a Fully shaded, with background drawing could take you anywhere from 4-5 hours, depending on lighting and detail, and your skill grants you a better wage, of 20$ an hour, so the drawing could sell from 80$-100& still reasonable. but you cant do a job for 4 hours and finish work for the day, and get weekends off, and live off of those hours pay(in america specifically, were pretty fuked here) you need to almost treat it as a job, set your hours, break, and plan your days off, your a manager, an employee, a business, and your art is your product. sell it with knowledge of economy.
what about me? well, i've been drawing for 16 years, and have a basic understanding of anatomy, positioning, and shading/lighting, and a full body traditional, with shading and background, would take me about 2 hours, so it would go for about 30$ and no background would be about 10-15$ i haven't started commissions because i live with a family that demands my time, and repeatedly forget about thing i need that they promised me, only to use it to bribe/guilt trip me into doing things for them. and if i complain i'm laughed at, if i try to explain my mental problems, they are so confused, they get gad. so i'm just waiting until my mate moves in to help me get things done.
and when it comes to inspiration, its best to take from many than few, i see so many copy paste art styles its crazy. when i first started to develop my style, i got inspiration from many artists, i had knowledge of furries or the fandom, but i liked drawing animals, specifically wolves. i liked how one artists drew paws, so i did something similar, i liked how another drew eyes, so i did similar. and while my style has changed allot from then, but it still has the same building blocks. not sure if anyone noticed, but my current back legs were inspired by
jinglepawstudios and the way i started doing fluff for digital drawing is inspired by steven universe. you can take inspiration and you can do things similar, but don't just blatantly copy another artists style, if you are scared to be inspired by other artists, get inspired by life, the way i draw the bust/neck, is because i drew feral art first, i
also drew more realistically, and it felt weird putting an animal head on a small human neck, so my anthro drawings have a more animal like connection from head to body. if someone was inspired by my style, or characters, and weren't copying it, i would be very happy, my art/design was so great, someone wanted something similar for themselves. I made this post because when i first started hearing about the fandom, i heard the community was very kind and like a big family, lots of people just willing to make friends, but the longer i'm in the fandom the less i've come to like it, i keep seeing more and more drama and hatred for the dumbest reasons, (i don't even want to get into the "nazi" drama, but its the dumbest one i've heard) but as of now, the much larger anime community, is more accepting than the furry community has been, there's tightly woven groups of people here, that are all friends, and if something vaguely unkind is said to one of those people, then a war breaks out. artists are not seeing their customers as people, but money. i go to an anime con, and there are people loving my half assed cosplay, and easily becoming friends. i go to a furry con and end up feeling unwanted, my suit being quietly judged, and any attempt to socialize outside the people you came with is met with awkward, almost annoyed faces. it is just unrealistic for me to be able to ever make friends with someone like majira, because for some reason, the second a person is "a fan" they can never be a friend, they are just some weird fan. but someone like malindachan, i had a half hour convo with her at youmicon just about how many yugioh cards i had (over 100 monster reborns alone) i told malindachan i was a fan of hers and she was happy and wanted to talk to me, i met majira at MCFC and did the same thing, couldn't tell if he was happy (duh) but after the hug and me saying i liked his videos, he turned around to continue quietly waiting in line for something, i guess i could have started a conversation but maybe because i was in suit he just assumed i was a child (i'm unfortunately short =_= )
i just want to be able to make friends in this community like i do in the anime community. i don't care what your views are, i don't care what other fandoms your in, i don't care what you d in your spare time, i don't care what religion you have, or if you do drugs. if your a good person i'll know, and that's all i care about, going to MCFC just has not been quite as fun as youmicon, not because there's less to do but because people seem so much less willing to interact with strangers. when you see a new suiter at a con, its a partial, weird neck, maybe hart to tell what species. but it is cute, and not badly made. do you confront them, ask if they made it their self, is it the first suit they've ever made? who knows, they might put penises in its mouth and i don't want to ask if they do that, and i don't want hug that, and they might be an ass or troll. NO, DON'T THINK LIKE THAT. just go up and say, i like your suit, did you make it? and if they wont talk in suit and their handler is away, you can stall by playing with the character. One fun thing happened when someone saw me in suit with my handler playing with a cat toy (i was wearing pop) and he joined in, and used his height to pull it out of my reach, i had fun reacting like the grumpy kitty would, it was great, and after we talked a bit.
i know i ramble this is getting long....sorry, these are things i feel need to be said, i want this community to be as great as people say it is.
but that's not all, once i got some sort of info, it said they would draw a flat color bust for 150-200$ witch is absolutely ridiculous. Yea artists that decide to make art their carer need to be able to make enough money to live off of, but not one drawing a day. there was allot of drama about stuff i had now idea about, i could have nothing but a bad view of them because they hid half of the argument, and the actual price the drama started with. so i couldn't tell if they were being unfairly ridiculed, they just seamed like they were salty someone pointed out how unfair they were being.
if your not doing art that requires expensive supplies, or excessive time working on it, then it should never be over 100$. as for medias of art, its just dependent on the artist. for some people, digital art takes lots of time, hours of work, sometimes days. but for other people it can be easier because of layers and CTRL Z.
I find traditional art easier to make in a timely fashion with the quality i want, but the supplies are quite costly. digital depends, as of right now i have no art programs like gimp or paint tool sai, i just use mspaint, and only recently did i get a tablet, before a digital drawing with fluffy details and shading, would take me 9-10 hours, but they never turned out how i wanted. when i got the tablet, it took a while to get used to, but once i did it cut 3 hours off my drawing time, but because of how paint works, i still ended up using the mouse and curve too to do the actual lines, sketch and shading i do with the tablet, i havent tried gimp with the tablet, but i know i didn't like it when i had it for this drawing http://www.furaffinity.net/view/16892336/
it took me nearly 20 collective hours to finish it.
I do so many kinds of art, i paint (acrylic,oil,water), i draw (traditional, digital) and i do so much more (like make fursuits and sculpt with clay) and there's things i do with my family at times, like crochet or set up shadowboxes. so i know that all those forms of art are not that different, they all require skill, tools, inspiration, time, and effort. inspiration is a big thing too, people get mad and blow up when they spot similarities in 2 separate artists. but things that have been created, anything, and everything HAD/NEEDED inspiration from somewhere. like paper, it was first made by wasps to build their nests, the nests were used for things(not 100% sure/cant remember) and at some point someone realized if they did the same thing, they could make paper too.
EXAMPLES AND CLARIFICATION OF RANT
I have seen way too many people that have no idea how to price their art. And even more so, i've seen people who try to make a living off of their art, make it their carer, and have absolutely no knowledge of economics. i'm lucky enough to have grown up in Michigan, because economics is a required coarse here. supply and demand is ignored by most, so is knowing about wages. if you know about how long a drawing will take (lets say 3 hours) and how much per hour is a decent wage/income (based on your skill/how long you have been drawing art, let say you've been drawing for 10 years and your anatomy is decent, i say slightly above minimum wage, for me that would be about 10$ an hour) and then you'll get how much its worth (10$ an hour for 3 hours is 30$ perfectly reasonable!) now, lets say you have been drawing for only 5 years, but your art quality (knowledge of shading/color/anatomy/poses) is amaze balls, you could give your self more for your art, a Fully shaded, with background drawing could take you anywhere from 4-5 hours, depending on lighting and detail, and your skill grants you a better wage, of 20$ an hour, so the drawing could sell from 80$-100& still reasonable. but you cant do a job for 4 hours and finish work for the day, and get weekends off, and live off of those hours pay(in america specifically, were pretty fuked here) you need to almost treat it as a job, set your hours, break, and plan your days off, your a manager, an employee, a business, and your art is your product. sell it with knowledge of economy.

Being forgotten
General | Posted 9 years agoA while ago i did a trade and the person has still not done their part, idk if they forgot me or if they just were not happy with my half of the trade. They never said anything on my part or even faved it. i don't know what to do, i messaged them before, asking about it and they said school was in the way but that never stopped them from drawing art for other people and uploading it. im not saying their name because i don't want to cause them trouble, but i also don't want to seem mean when i ask them again and i have no idea how to word it.
(vent, you don't have to read this if you don't want to)
for as long as i can remember ive had this problem, i could be sitting right in front of a teachers face but they would still mark me absent, i would be in the middle of a sentence and people would interrupt as if i was not even there. i never do vent posts because i know my problems are not for others to worry about. and when i ever think about posting something, i stop because, who cares. I have 76 watchers 3 of witch are irl friends, 1 of witch actually uses this site, and anyone else i felt might be a friend fall into the category of "they forgot me". my last journal where i apologized, only three of the people i was apologizing to actually commented (thank you so much^^) and the main reason for the post was to see if any of you wanted a new drawing or not, i love drawing, why would i be mad if you still wanted the art, i just wanted to know if you did or not. but i can only assume they didn't even read the title before deleting it from their notifications. I try to comment on things and fave things that i like, regardless of quality, and when it comes to other peoples vent i may not comment because ive messed up before, ive said something wrong and made it worse and im afaraid of doing that again.
when i favorite art i do it because, i like the character, i like the style, i like the concept, or it just looks nice.*aesthetic*
i feel like too many people go through their submission notifications, and only fave things that are beautiful works of digital art, or that involve their character, if you see something even remotely appealing to you FAVE IT!
I feel like almost everyone watching me are only here for free art, i indeed do allot of free art, but only because i cant receive money for it atm. but when i eventually have commissions, is everyone just gonna leave? when i know 76 people are gonna see something im so proud of and it only gets 1 fave, i wonder why. does it look bad? does no one like my character?
why do people not like traditional art? i understand if its on line paper or taken with a crappy camera at a bad angle, but i use clean paper and put all my effort into them, most of my traditional art im very proud of whereas most of my digital i feel needs work. but for some reason people would much rater have an awkward backroundless digital piece than a high effort traditional. I DONT EVEN USE VEXALS, I ONLY HAVE MS PAINT!
if you read this im not mad at anyone, i never am, im only ever mad at myself for not being able to do so much. im forgetful, i have hard time wording things, i suck at spelling so bad auto correct has no clue, and my social anxiety is so bad that i have small panic attacks replying to people sometimes. i just try so hard to make others happy that i sometimes forget about myself.

General | Posted 9 years agoTo all the people who never got their Halloween art from me. There was some changes at my doctor that made it harder for me to get my medication, and i ended up falling into a pit of depression. And every time i logged on i just got more upset and never had the strength to do art for a long time. I still don't have my meds but i have been feeling a bit better. anyone who never got there art can ask for the same drawing promised or a new one.
Please keep in mind that doing digital art is hard for me and will take a long time compared to a traditional.

and ive wanted to do more with them.
I was planing to have the females have brighter colors and be larger in size with typically more spikes/horns. but overall they would all have a set of large teeth (can be canines or any other tooth honestly) and large back legs with large claws always out, large pointed ears, and fur that forms a kind of mane.
They can be antro or feral and are quite smart but tend to forget things easily (not like a short memory span, more like not allot of space to put all of the info)
they were based on a gorgonops which I think is an awesome underrated dino.
I might make some to adopts of them once I have a name for the species.

Wow I should be on multiple art sites
General | Posted 9 years agoI used to be on DA and tumblr but DA angered me and tumblr was sadly lonely so I left those. But now I'm only on FA and just lost some submissions when all this bs happened. I will be re-uploading them today though. If anyone knows other good sites to post art, comment a link please. I got lucky this time and still have all the pictures saved, but I would like to have another place to put art anyway just in case.
