Amiga 1200 GET!
Posted 12 years agoI am now the proud owner of an Amiga 1200 (with an ACA1220 turbo, 128+2 MB RAM and a 8 GB solid state Compact Flash hard drive). This means you can expect some actual Amiga chiptunes from me in the future, as well as some old tracks salvaged from floppies.
It's pretty great, I can now play/watch almost any Amiga game and demo, except for the newschool ones that require more processing power.

Sorry for getting so shouty there!

Shameless plug for my netlabel
Posted 14 years agoSince some of you might like my music and might not yet be aware, I thought I'd point you towards my netlabel, Gabumat: http://gabumat.com
We recently achieved our 7th release (well, three months ago, but I totally forgot to post about it): http://gabumat.wordpress.com/2011/0.....nteraction-ep/
Or if techno's not your thing, feel free to check out my soundtrack for Dit Dah's game Legend of Kalevala: http://gabumat.wordpress.com/2011/0.....la-soundtrack/
If you like more chilled and experimental stuff, you could definitely do worse than have a look at the three releases by Experim3ntus - there's some wonderful stuff to be found in there.
I'm working on a couple more releases as we speak; these include an album full of banging, lo-fi old-school techno, a collection of chiptunes and a short ambient EP.
You're also free to submit your own stuff to the label should you want to!

The Finnish Christmas
Posted 16 years agoI thought I'd write a little bit on how Christmas is celebrated here in Finland, so all you foreigners know what to expect should you ever have to spend the Holidays around these parts.
First of all, we do not have a Santa Claus - we instead have joulupukki (Christmas Billy Goat). On Christmas eve, he visits each house bearing gifts in his huge testicles; although in today's more politically correct climate, his "sack" is often called a 'pouch' instead, which nevertheless is still firmly attached to his groin.
(As a side note, the Swedes have such a dislike for our version of Santa that they actually have a public Christmas Goat burning event each year!)
If there is no snow on Christmas Eve, Christmas is canceled. Celebrating it in such a case could technically land one in jail, though this has not been enforced for a couple of years.
Another thing you may notice is that there are a lot of reindeer on the streets in the Holiday season, freely intermingling with other traffic. There are reindeer-only lanes on many of the major roads and motorways to ensure a less deadly journey for the animal-led traffic.
Let us then talk about the traditional Christmas-time cuisine in Finland.
There is of course the traditional ploropihvi (reindeer steak), but a more modern stable is the porökinkku (reindeer ham), cut from a reindeer-pig hybrid specifically engineered for this purpose.
My personal Christmas favourite is the riisikuuro (rice-eye porridge), which is basically a simple porridge made of brown rice. Shortly before serving, the eyeball of a reindeer is hidden in the pot. Whoever ends up with the eyeball on their plate must then retire to bed, while everyone else gets to continue their Christmas celebrations all the way to the end.
There are other, more quirky Christmas foods I haven't mentioned such as the lipeämämmi, but the English language lacks the words and concepts necessarily to explain such things.
Hyvaaa jouslua ja onellista uutatavuotat ("Merry X-Mas"), everyone!

Idealist Portrait of the Healer (INFP)
Posted 16 years agoSaw a couple of people posted their results from the test at http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/JTypes2.asp so figured I'd post mine:
Idealist Portrait of the Healer (INFP)
Healers present a calm and serene face to the world, and can seem shy, even distant around others. But inside they're anything but serene, having a capacity for personal caring rarely found in the other types. Healers care deeply about the inner life of a few special persons, or about a favorite cause in the world at large. And their great passion is to heal the conflicts that trouble individuals, or that divide groups, and thus to bring wholeness, or health, to themselves, their loved ones, and their community.
Healers have a profound sense of idealism that comes from a strong personal sense of right and wrong. They conceive of the world as an ethical, honorable place, full of wondrous possibilities and potential goods. In fact, to understand Healers, we must understand that their deep commitment to the positive and the good is almost boundless and selfless, inspiring them to make extraordinary sacrifices for someone or something they believe in. Set off from the rest of humanity by their privacy and scarcity (around one percent of the population), Healers can feel even more isolated in the purity of their idealism.
Also, Healers might well feel a sense of separation because of their often misunderstood childhood. Healers live a fantasy-filled childhood-they are the prince or princess of fairy tales-an attitude which, sadly, is frowned upon, or even punished, by many parents. With parents who want them to get their head out of the clouds, Healers begin to believe they are bad to be so fanciful, so dreamy, and can come to see themselves as ugly ducklings. In truth, they are quite OK just as they are, only different from most others-swans reared in a family of ducks.
At work, Healers are adaptable, welcome new ideas and new information, are patient with complicated situations, but impatient with routine details. Healers are keenly aware of people and their feelings, and relate well with most others. Because of their deep-seated reserve, however, they can work quite happily alone. When making decisions, Healers follow their heart not their head, which means they can make errors of fact, but seldom of feeling. They have a natural interest in scholarly activities and demonstrate, like the other Idealists, a remarkable facility with language. They have a gift for interpreting stories, as well as for creating them, and thus often write in lyric, poetic fashion. Frequently they hear a call to go forth into the world and help others, a call they seem ready to answer, even if they must sacrifice their own comfort.

Pageviews
Posted 18 years agoHere is what I plan to do when certain amounts of pageviews are broken:
600 - Look at amount of pageviews and nod approvingly.
700 - Maybe drink a bit of water if I'm thirsty.
800 - Have various organs in my body perform their respective functions.
900 - Be slightly perplexed.
1000 - Acknowledge the occasion in a manner yet to be decided.
10000 - Play a little melody on my pocket calculator.
1000000000 - At this point all things will cease to exist.

Posted 18 years agoJust watched Arashi no yoru ni (aka Stormy Night) tonight. It was surprisingly good, plus the wolf character, Gabu, is probably the cutest animated wolf I've seen, hence I now have a new avatar!
Also, a thank you to all who have commented on my submissions! All feedback is appreciated even though I haven't responded to all of the comments I've received.

Posted 19 years agoPhew! I think that's enough C-64 music submissions for now.
I wish FA supported Ogg Vorbis and had a larger size limit for submissions so I could submit some proper mixes. I like doing mixes. Mixes are awesome. I'mma mix you up so bad your mother won't recognize you.

Hello
Posted 19 years agoThanks much for the watches, favs and comments!
Cheers for apparently liking my crappy little comics. I didn't think anyone would actually pay any (positive) attention to them. I'll be posting a few more strips after which we'll see what will happen to the comic.
While you're here, feel free to also check out my music ;o)
