Happ April Floofs day
General | Posted a year agoNo fools, only Floofs.
it April
General | Posted 2 years agoHappy April Floofs day.
Am going to Anthrocon(s).
General | Posted 3 years ago2024: I've got a few handfuls of panels I want to attend, mostly on Saturday, but in the between-times I'll be on the 3rd floor bridge giving free hugs. If you want to meet up, maybe go get a foooood somewhere, send me a note or telelelelgrrrrm.
2023: So a local fren invited me to tag along with him to Anthrocon (splitting room cost of course). So I'm going to Anthrocon this year. Who am I gonna be able to hug there?
Edit: This was my 2nd con ever (first being FWA2015) and the experiences were polar opposites. FWA seems mostly room parties and had nowhere for an introvert to escape to aside from their hotel room (and maybe not even then). AC is a proper convention center with some lonely hallways, a lovely rooftop garden with benches, and a few balconies, but still with lots of people and things to do, in a city that's OPEN ON SUNDAY.
Will definetly go again.

General | Posted 3 years agoMy main computer decided to stop recognizing my center monitor, so I backed up my stuff and did a windows reset, clean drive, full stop.
except I forgot to back up my art stuff since it was stored in a different place in the file system.
I do have A backup since I duplicated my desktop hard drive onto my laptop in January... but everything I've drawn this year is gone.
So there's my onosecond for the year.
Might be time to re-organize the ol' system...
aaaand finding this out just before going to bed. Love it.

Edit: and my sketchup 3D library is gone too.

Updates (and a list of my favorite aircraft)
General | Posted 4 years agoSerious:
1.) It has come to my attention that not everyone checks profiles on any kind of basis. I've made numerous updates to my profile and "commission" tab over the last few months. If you've been watching me for years I would advise taking a fresh look. The most important thing is that I only accept requests during livestreams.
2.) It has also come to my attention that my drawing your character may be interpreted as my caring about you as a person. While this is often the case now, if it was more than 2 years ago I can pretty much guarantee I cared more about your character than about you.
3.) I'm mildly autistic and empathy does not come easy for me, it's especially difficult over this here internet and if I've offended you in some way, even subtly, I need you to let me know.
Less serious:
It has been asked a few times what my favorite aircraft are. So here's the top 10.
1.) The allegedly abandoned Boeing Near Sonic Transit (NST) concept called the "Sonic Cruiser." I'm biased toward canards (and amphibians) and find the 2002 revision particularly beautiful. I still think it could be put to good use in the cargo market.
2.) The Lockheed F-104 Starfighter. It's a smol, easy to maintain pointy speedy boi and I also enjoy the "manned missile aesthetic. Long ago I drew an art of someone's critter transforming into an F-104, I did so because it was my favorite aircraft at the time. They have since accused me of using that as a form of malice??? No. It's still my 2nd favorite aircraft. Just because the US military didn't give it the love it deserves doesn't mean it's as stupid as they are. Son. Have you seen the world?
3.) Beriev BE-200. Apparently one of few aircraft that was LATER adapted for military service, primarily a firefighting aircraft, and a large amphibious jet. There haven't been many of that category.
4.) DeHavilland Dash-8-100. These used to serve my hometown about a dozen times a day, The paint job they had at the time looked great from lower angles and they were always so quiet, there aren't many planes that can sneak up on me while also flying slowly.
5.) Diehl XTC-1. An ultralight amphibious canard.
6.) Mig-8 Utka. A one-off the Russians built to verify the literally Nazi concept of swept-wing stability. It turned out to be very stable and so durable they had to "dismantle" it with a wrecking ball. I do believe if they made them now with modern equipment it could be quite popular.
7.) Piaggio P-136 "Royal Gull" because amphibian with style.
8.) Antonov AN-2. An aircraft that was out-of-date by a decade when it was introduced and continued production until frighteningly recently. They're also developing the AN-2-100 since there has yet to be a different suitable replacement for the workhorse.
9.) The (now defunct) Seaflight Shearwater. Because amphibian and it's such a pretty plane. Why hasn't this been put into GTA online? Because obscurity...
10.) Honorable mention: DA-20-C1 Eclipse, N139DA. The plane I have 75 hours in. It's made of plastic, otherwise it's oddly normal...
I also have a folder on my laptop with almost 200 weird (or rare) aircraft pictures in it. I would leave it slideshowing at school and frequently came back to my instructors gawking at it. XD

A revelation
General | Posted 4 years agoLet's see if I can phrase this in a way that makes sense.
This all started in late November 2011 when I drew Huttser for the first time (even if I didn't post it right away). His markings were based on Odd from Code Lyoko, with a bit of generic stuff thrown in, he was half wolf at the time since I had previously considered myself a bit of a lone wolf type of teenager (classic cringe I know). Early furry posts in my DA gallery confirm that. It was spring 2012 when I had a dream about him that I started recognizing him to be more foxy.
Everything I've "learned" about him, and all my other characters has come from dreams. It is this which has clouded my judgement. I haven't fully considered them and the theory-verse in which they live to be "of my creation" because, save for Hutt's markings, it's all dreamed stuff.
But my characters are MY characters. The can only ever partially represent ME. As much effort as people put into their characters with art and fursuits and social medias and "lifestyles" (read as: cringe), a character can only ever be a character, a mere fraction of their creator. It's not Hutts that loves hugs, it's ME. It's not Hutts that has all those weird kinks, it's ME. There's only so much separation one can achieve from one's creations and I've come to recognize that... in most cases... whether we realize it or not... we're often not interested so much in the development of the "characters" as we are in their creators.
I hope to recognize that everything I love about a character, I can learn to love about the PERSON who created that character. And should we ever meet IRL I will want to see the person, because chances are I already know the character.
I don't know how much this means for the future, but I intend to carry on pretending to be a happy silly wad of floof that wants to hug everything. Because it's fun. Even if it is just human me putting on a mask for a while.
Thanks for listening. I've already been re-organizing my profile a bit but I've got the feeling that there may be a lot more changing soon. I will keep the NSFW profile but that's as much as I can say with certainty for now.

A journal of explanations, apologies and warnings.
General | Posted 4 years agoThis journal is intended to address some of the mistakes I've made in the past. As well as offering explanations, apologies, and warnings for those who may need them.
It is an increasingly long read but I hope that some of it may be useful to you.
If you want to link to this journal, you may.
If you have a suggestion for something to add, or to rephrase something; send me a note.
While I hope that some of this advice may find it's way to the administration, let it be known that I am just another end user of FA and that this information is only meant to be used as advice.

(1)
Mature Content When I submitted this NSFW image on my adult profile I accidentally uploaded it under the General rating. I realized this immediately and changed it as fast as my families internet would allow. In all it took less than 30 seconds, but when it finally loaded again there was a comment: "Reported."
*sigh*
This is why I watch the browse page constantly and leave warnings for those who make the same mistake. I have an auto-refresh widget which is usually set to 35 seconds, if the artist hasn't caught their own mistake by then; I leave my pre-written (macro key) comment:
Wrong rating methinks.
Do not reply to this comment.
Just hide it PLEASE.I include the "just hide it" because the whole reason I'm leaving that reply is because I don't want to see that content.
The please is also a link back to this journal (the most likely reason you are here).
If you want to thank me for the courtesy then do so via notes or shouts, don't make me turn off my SFW filter and see that content again.
And this process usually goes well but...
W.) Some people are under the impression that their art is only in THEIR galleries, that I somehow found them and am harassing them when I ask that they change the rating.
FA is a public gallery, someone who accesses the internet (for example: at a public library) can see the main and browse pages. Unless they make an account here they can ONLY see the GENERAL rated content.
Any time you upload something to YOUR main gallery it is also posted to the MAIN pages and if it's under the General rating; ANYONE can see it.
If you only want your watchers to be notified when you upload something; upload it to scraps. But keep in mind that unless you have disabled Guest Access (in the Global Site Settings menu) ANYONE can still find your page and see the stuff in your main and scraps galleries.
And keep in mind that what is normal in your gallery may not be "normal" for EVERYONE.
The Acceptable Upload Policy is in place so that we may be more considerate of others.
And by using FA you have agreed to abide by it's policies.
Submitting a trouble ticket is my last resort, but if the rating isn't changed within the hour I will. I do bookmark them and check often, if it's changed later I'll close the ticket myself.
But if someone argues with the Upload Policy, I'm opening a ticket immediately and leaving it open.
Also for those that argue, consider this: When I'm out looking for NSFW stuff I turn the general content OFF, Rule of probability: I'm probably not the only one who does that. So it's likely that your mis-rated content cannot be seen by the audience you're trying to reach.
(2)
A suggestion for the AUP Even though the Acceptable Upload Policy was re-written a few years ago, there is still one piece of verbiage that I see continuing to be mis-interpreted, and even used as an excuse for mis-rated content.
"Free of nudity of any kind, as well as outlines of genitalia, sheaths, female nipples, or detailed/exaggerated bulges."
The sad part is: all it needs is a colon.
"Free of: Nudity of any kind" ...
The "argument" that sticks with me is people looking at Free of nudity and ignoring the rest of the sentence. How they even do that is beyond me, but I've seen it many times.
And I still call it the Acceptable Upload Policy because there are definitely unacceptable things people have uploaded. Even more so now with AI / Image Generators being misused.
(3)
Roleplay I used to be one of those obnoxious roleplayers, leaving uncomfortable comments on anything that struck my fancy hoping someone would pick up on it. At the time I just couldn't fathom that people might not do RP, and I know I'm on more than a few block lists because of it.
I've since grown out of it to the point that listening to my friends play a tabletop game often makes me uncomfortable, and I'm not even participating...
I do still offer virtual hugs, sometimes drawing them as a freebie, but that's as far as I can go in RP anymore.
But I am still on some blocklists, and I resent it. There are adorable things I'd love to compliment and fave, but I can't because past me was inconsiderate and dumb.
This is why I reviewed my block list a few years ago, and made a list of people to NOT offer hugs to.
I'm trying to be better. I would ask that others consider going through their own blocklists, see if they still deserve it. People usually change over time (though I know a few that haven't), and they may not be bad anymore.
(4)
Blood and Gore There are people on this planet who get genuinely nauseous when confronted with gore and death, even when implied and not explicitly shown. I'm sure of this because I am one of those people. Even detailed candy gore can make me queasy. If I have recommended that you change the rating of such a thing.... that's why.
This section is intentionally short so that I don't start thinking of some of the bad examples I have seen.
(5)
Image Generators / AI "art" I've just had my first encounter with someone who was not up to speed with the AI section of the Acceptable Upload Policy (thankfully it went well), and I felt that an explanation in here may prove useful for others.
For those in a similar situation, send them this:
On the 5th of September 2022 "Content Lacking Artistic Merit" was added to the Upload Policy (https://www.furaffinity.net/aup). On the 3rd of January 2023 this part of the policy was moved to section 2.13, it specifies that content made through AI or Image Generators, and draw-overs or derivatives thereof are prohibited on FA. Also there's no need for ya'll to post those stupid "I'm against AI" images. It's not permitted here anyway, if you see it then tell the person posting it about the policy update. Many people see those banner updates and close them by default without looking, but sometimes they do contain useful information, and sadly many users haven't reviewed the AUP recently, if at all. I know I hadn't for my first few years using this site, and I know from the latter part of section 1 of this journal that many others haven't looked either...
So try to be friendly about it, in their mind AI is a tool, and tools are used to make things. It just so happens that AI often implies content theft by default and so is not accepted here, but they may not realize that.
Of course if they argue then drop out and send it to the mods, but don't start by threatening mod intervention, there are kinder ways to handle this.
I for one have considered using AI for pose prompts, to then sketch over, correct proportions as needed (FIX THE HANDS), and use my developed skill to render a proper image. That is what I would consider a decent use of AI. The majority of the work would be my own, but I have such a hard time thinking up poses and getting a sketch started. A learning artist could benefit greatly from such prompts IF they used them in a similar manner.
It is theoretically possible for someone who programs AND does art to make their own AI and only teach it with their own art. In that case I would count it as a new creative outlet and would be interested in seeing their progress. Will the AI ever match the artists' skill? Will it be better at drawing hands? Could it be used to expose new methods in the development of their art style? I'd love to see an AI that helps new artists learn proportions, possibly another for complex shading (even though shading is my favorite part of drawing). I'm not against the AIs that are built and used properly.
That's the problem, most AI / Image Generators are built upon stolen work. If someone makes such a thing then they should keep it to themselves, the phrase "give someone an inch, and they'll take a mile" applies to the ignorance of the general public just as well as it does to those acting with genuine malice. A piece of work used in good faith is one thing, but sadly most AI's at this point are not built that way.
(6)
Going on the Explanation part of this journal... Let me tell ya'll why I think NFT's are stupid. First off, as hot as the topic is, I'm impressed that Wikipedia currently has it right.
"A non-fungible token (NFT) is a unique digital identifier that cannot be copied, substituted, or subdivided, that is recorded in a blockchain, and that is used to certify authenticity and ownership."
...
It's a digital transaction receipt that's been stored in a blockchain (database string).
So...
Make a copy of that database string, fake a few numbers in a file, and you have copied an NFT. Perhaps harder to do than other forms of fraud, but not impossible, and once the process is established for one, can be easily replicated.
So they're kinda stupid if you ask me.
So here's my 5 cents:
I've got a grocery receipt here at my computer desk, was about to throw it out but it got me thinking...
How difficult would it be for someone to fake this?
1.) Access to the card I used to pay for that transaction in order to have the store print a second receipt.
2.) Will that copy be counted from the self-checkout machine I used? Or will it specify that it's from the customer service machine?
3.) Will the copy say "copy" on it?
4.) Will the timestamp be from the original moment or when the copy was made?
5.) Will the network address of the printer be the same?
6.) Will the advertisements on the back be the same? It's a new year, the firm might've swapped sponsors this week.
7.) Will those ads be in the same position?
8.) Also receipt paper rolls have identifying marks on them, you'll need to have something left from that exact roll. They usually don't even last a day, good luck with that.
9.) Did the printer that printed those ads before the roll was rolled start running out of ink towards the end?
Not even getting to the wrinkles from when I shoved it in my pocket, every grocery receipt ever printed is itself an NFT and most of us already throw them in the garbage. Digital NFT's are in comparison WAY easier to fake, thus are even more stupid than I thought they were when I started typing this.
(7)
Keywords With the new keyword blurring system I've been paying more attention to keywords and thus have been seeing them being used inappropriately with increasing frequency.
Half of all submissions I click on don't have any keywords, while this is a problem it is not one I'm ready to address just yet.
Half of the submissions that do have keywords are very low effort, this is basically the same as no keywords.
Too many of the remaining submissions use EVERY keyword that could possibly apply to the subject matter/fetish. Such as a cute pooltoy just kinda sitting there being cute, but including keywords such as "pop" or "burst" even though those extremes are not present in the work.
I understand that it may help the art show up in a broad search, FA's search system does often work that way, but now I fear it will unneccesarily blur many arts because of erroneous keywords.
On another face if the work is part of a sequence which WILL properly utilize those keywords I think they should be present, I don't want to get invested in a comic only for it to go places I can't follow.
This is a complicated matter and my opinion is biased, so take this with some salt 🧂.
Primarily my concern is keyword spam: describe the work as it is, or as it will be in a continuation. Do not copy-paste all the F-list keywords for the subject matter, doing so with the current keyword system will restrict your viewship.

General | Posted 4 years agoGame review time
Here Comes Niko on Steam.
98% furry (There are 2 humans)
100% completionist
30% grind (there should be an apple juice stand, 1 coin for 500 apples or something. SO MANY APPLES)
Dustan is my favorite.
Everyone is frog.
First game in my admittedly limited knowledge that brings up the lack of bathrooms in games.

Edit: or just someone who's okay at cooking on a griddle. I want it to be somewhat believable.

Fluff on hold
General | Posted 5 years agoI am currently attending school, per FAA regulations we can only do classes in person (also it's not exactly possible to learn how to work ON airplanes... online, paperwork can only get you so far).
We tried to do some stuff online, even got the FAA's "blessing" but half the class never even got the email about it, myself included.
So we're in person, wearing masks 5-8 hours per day, keeping social distance as much as possible...
COVID gave us 2 months out of school and that time HAS to be made up somehow, usually staying 30 minutes after the scheduled time, sometimes also coming in early.
There have been people in other classes that tested positive, those people and the people they were known to be in "contact" with are out for 2 weeks... in a program where every HOUR is counted.
And some of these kids still aren't taking the virus seriously....
Life's got me a bit overloaded right now, so to help myself IRL I'm putting ahold on all requests and will not be taking any more for the foreseeable future.
For the most part this isn't news, I had made a journal when school resumed stating that I expected trouble, but I didn't know how much trouble it would be.
I'm still doing personal art as a form of stress relief, and spontaneous inspiration is always a possibility...
So you may still be seeing fluffstuffs from me, but it's probably not for you.
Edit 12 Feb 21: Decided to cancel the backlog completely. From here on I will only be accepting requests during livestreams.

Define "Superfloof"
General | Posted 6 years agoFirst there is Fuzz
Fuzz is the exceptionally short hairs that offer little if any insulation value and are mostly for coloration purpose, a human running their hand across it could feel anything from coarse bristling to a soft sweep. The length of the fuzz may make it to the top of their fingers but is usually shorter.
Second there is Fluff
Fluff is okay for keeping warm, though clothing may be desired for cold and/or wet weather. It is always soft to the touch, even when wet. A human can run their fingers through fluff and the digits will partially or mostly disappear.
Then there is Floof
Floof is an excellent insulator, see any video of huskies refusing to come inside during the winter. It usually offers some degree of water resistance mostly through the oils that get trapped in it, as such a critter living in a modern environment may be encouraged to take soapy baths, as natural oils aren't the only things floof captures. Well groomed floof is particularly soft and wonderful to snuggle, so if you're a monster that doesn't love hugs you may want to trim yours down a bit. The shortest level that counts as floof can fully envelop a humans hand when pushed through it. The longer the better.
Finally there is the legendary Superfloof
The shortest level of superfloof is where the critter beneath begins to lose their shape, joints become difficult to locate and the tail might as well not have any bones in it because you'll never find the limb trust me. The bestest superfloof is the kind that can conceal multiple critters within its warm embrace, no action needed on the wearer though feel free to snuggle yourself to your hearts content.
Fuzz is the exceptionally short hairs that offer little if any insulation value and are mostly for coloration purpose, a human running their hand across it could feel anything from coarse bristling to a soft sweep. The length of the fuzz may make it to the top of their fingers but is usually shorter.
