As much as I've participated in all sorts of social groups over the years, I find myself needing more furry folk in my life. Y'all are so much more creative and refreshingly lack the disgusting ego problems the cosplay/costuming realm are plagued with.

Despite having been in this fandom for well over ten years I remain to have nothing left from it all. All my art homies have either: moved on and beyond the fandom, or stopped arting all together. I have folders of collaborations, gift art and badges I look at frequently and I'm not accustomed to associating them with angst until this last year or so. My other geek friends feel uncomfortable even at the mention of furries and I remain to have no other outlets. The last fur con I attended I was publicly accosted by a "poppy-fur" (no one around me defended me) and it's left me completely uneasy about the modern community or attending meets, or future conventions.

I am also not accustomed to venting on the internet, although I'm not sure where else to put these thoughts on my mind. I miss my doodling, I miss my characters and I miss the creative energy.

Sucks, man.

---Opening up here, because it's kind of hard to bear occasionally. Has anyone, artists in particular, bonded with some one artistically? I'm talking about your art homie, your creative home-slice, some one that fuels your muse and inspires you on a more personal level than say: some one you've admired but have no personal relationship? IE: some one you sketch session with, some one you have a joint character with, some one who would receive your weirdest ideas with delight.
---I guess there used to be a handful of people that inspired me to draw and create in a nurturing and "weirdo" friendly environment, you'd know in the back of your head, oh, well at least THEY get my art/characters/whatever. Now days I don't bother posting but a fraction of what I do simply because I have no desire to share ideas or characters I fear no one will really appreciate... hopefully this makes sense.

---And no, I'm not talking in any matter of perversion (not my style at all), but simply lamenting about the loss of what I would consider a creative (maybe read: darker, more fanciful) aspect of myself. One that simply wasted away after the failed relationships/friendships moved on. In the back of my head I feel a part of my artistic spirit had literally died when I lost touch with "these" people... how tragic, I know. - I look back and marvel at my handle on things I used to draw in high school and I'm ashamed I never pursued my art continuously, it's like recently I've been attempting to learn how to ride a theoretical bicycle again. (I still don't regret getting a Bachelors of Science over a fine arts degree, although, haha. But, still wasn't an excuse to stop drawing.)
---I have absolutely no idea how I'd develop any new bonds now days since: all said people pursued art since then and are amazing; where I've put most of my time into learning costume tailoring and science (ie: stacks and stacks of journals, drafts, citations, and piles of books). Also, I'm simply not as open or fearless about my ideas as I was 5-6 years ago, and I find myself being so intimidated, that I fail to try.

I'll admit, I feel a lot better after typing that.

Has anyone else gone through a raging color phase/obsession? Almost all of the clothing (in which I mean a majority of wardrobe dominating pieces) I have bought in the last year or so has been light-mauve/peach/grey-pink. Just a random muse.

This journal serves no porpoise. Other then, gunna start posting art again, and wanted to get that hella long previous journal off my page. Heeyup.

Not sure who all will take the time to look over this journal, but I'm looking for as much input as possible. As of last May I graduated with my Anthropology under-grad. For those who may not know off the tops of their head, Anthropology is the study of humans, encompassing culture, dead human culture (archeology) and the origin of human culture and ability (evolution theory). My honors dissertation subjects were on the darker side of human culture. All in all, not that fun. What I'm really interested in is modern human culture, especially what people subject themselves to in their free time.

My experience: I have been a casual participant in the fandom since 2003. I haven't made a huge mark, but I've enjoyed my time in the fandom for all sense and purposes for the community and the creative atmosphere I've experienced. I do not participate in the fandom in a manner I would consider to be sexual. I participate in other fandoms (cosplay, anime, sci-fi, comics) that consider the furry fandom something to be taboo. (Let's hold onto the context that: these fellow "geeks" of all people have a much more negative opinion of the furry fandom then say an average non-participating adult.)

My goal: I have seen plenty of studies or articles written about our fandom in a manner of: psychology or for entertainment purposes. Writting about the fandom from an anthropological stand point would present an angle that would focus on the overall culture and the participation of individuals on a cultural level. I would like to identify why other fandom participants (geek culture) have such a negative understanding of the furry fandom and how they were exposed in negative ways (given that they are more exposed to furries than the average adult). I will also consider there are many cross fandom participants (cosplayers and furries for example) and to note that many of these cross fandom participants keep their furry participation under wraps from fellow "geeks". I will try to approach the idea of the fandom being treated as something as taboo, or shameful in modern culture and try to formulate potential root causes. I will be mentioning the sexual aspect in a context of: that it exists, but does not define the fandom and that is often much more visible then other fandom participation.

I will not be exposing individuals or specific deviant behavior of any sort. I will be writing this (if I do) from a sterile, academic platform. Which yeah, might be more boring than the disgusting publicity from sources like MTV and entertainment producers, but at least I would aim to make the writing respectable and transparent. People participate in this fandom on both a hobby and lifestyle basis for a reason. Not to subject themselves to social banishment or embarrassment, but to have fun!

So this is just some quick brainstorming. I may or may not, depending on how much time I put into this. Attempt to submit the results into an academic journal. I will plan on obtaining anonymous testimony and interviews. Unlike sociology or psychology, anthropology does not rely on statistical information (ie: I will not be saying at some point that 50% of the fandom participate on a sexual level). No assumptions will be made, no percentile labeling suggested, but ideas will be presented in the most unbiased fashion possible.

Anyways, just putting that out there. I know what happens to furs that speak out. Don't really much care, since most of those who have been banished or ostracized have more or less needed to be. I would be doing this for education purposes out of my own time and NOT for entertainment purposes.

So, we are all moved into our house in Orlando, it's awesome. We are picking up our white German Shepard rescue on Sunday, also awesome. I spent about a week in Wisconsin that encompassed the very beginning of this month due to my grandmother's passing, very depressing.

I've had hardly the time for too many enjoyable things aside from scrolling through Pinterest and lulling over an empty sketchbook. I'm hoping our dog rescue will pick up my spirits and I'll be back to posting and socializing and fursuit constructing. So... <3

In a rather rushed series of events, I will be making the move from beautiful Denver Colorado, to hot and swampy Orlando, Florida around May 20th. We are leasing this cute little house with two guest rooms and blah blah blah (good for visiting *wink wink*).
