Someone Else's Star by Bryan White
General | Posted 11 years ago(For as long as I can remember, this song resonated with me from the moment I heard it. As I got older, it started feeling more and more like my personal "theme song" of sorts. It never fails that no matter where I go and who I meet, someone else always ends up getting the one thing I always wish for. Maybe I really am wishing on someone else's star. Maybe one of these days, I'll get it right...)
Alone again tonight
Without someone to love
The stars are shining bright
So one more wish goes up
Oh, I wish I may
And I wish with all my might
For the love I'm dreaming of
And missing in my life
You'd think that I could find
A true love of my own
It happens all the time
To people that I know
Their wishes all come true
So I've got to believe
There's still someone out there who
Is meant for only me
I guess I must be wishing on
Someone else's star
It seems like someone else keeps getting
What I'm wishing for
Why can't I be as lucky
As those other people are
I guess I must be wishing
On someone else's star
I sit here in the dark
And stare up at the sky
But I can't give my heart
One good reason why
Everywhere I look
It's lovers that I see
It seems like everyone's in love
With everyone but me
I guess I must be wishing on
Someone else's star
It seems like someone else keeps getting
What I'm wishing for
Why can't I be as lucky
As those other people are
Oh, I guess I must be wishing
On someone else's star
Why can't I be as lucky
As those other people are
Oh, I guess I must be wishing
On someone else's star

The (Brief) Story of Cambria Ruadh
General | Posted 11 years agoCambria Ruadh (pronounced “Roy”, meaning “red-haired”) grew up in the wildnerness of Scotland, at the northern point of Loch of Cliff, on the northern isle of Unst. She doesn't remember much of her family, only that they left her here to die, saying that her features were unnatural and a curse, and would bring dark times to her clan.
Born in to a wealthy ice tiger family of power in the deep southern Highlands, the Deighidhean (Ice Clan), it was assumed that Cambria would grow to be just like her 3 older sisters (Eilidh, Fenella, and Kenzie): tall (as in, over 6'), lean, dark blue hair, ocean blue eyes, and strikingly beautiful. By the age of 6, her parents noticed she was not quite developing as her sisters had by that age. Her hair was darkening, but turning into a crimson red, and the blue eyes she'd been born with had been replaced with a deep emerald green. As well, she was a little chubbier than her sisters, and a bit shorter. A Celtic medicine woman soon warned her parents that she would bring tragedy to the family, but her parents chose to ignore the warning, instead focusing on building the affinity their youngest had for archery. It was only after her oldest brother, Cian, was killed in a freak attack on their town when she was 8 that her parents listened to the medicine woman.
Under the guise of a family trip some months later, Cambria was brought to the north shore of Loch of Cliff with her 3 older sisters and her remaining older brother, Andrew. Knowing that their youngest sister was to be left behind, the girls created a game of hide and seek in the thick patch of nearby woods to make the abandonment easier. Andrew would have none of it, as he loved his little sister dearly but could not defy his parents, so he left them to their cruel game. Cambria was the first to hide, and the girls were thrilled that this was turning out so easy. She found a cave in the side of a hill, certain it would take her sisters a long time to find her which meant she would win. Only after about 4 hours of no one seeking her out, did Cambria realize what was going on.
After coming across ancient cave bears during her time alone, Cambria was raised as though she were a child of their own people, quickly developing her keen hunting and tracking skills. She was presented with a bow made from the wood of a very ancient tree upon her 21st birthday, being told that the bow, when weilded properly in the hands of a skilled archer, would not allow an arrow to strike an innocent target, even from a mere few feet away.
Since she was no longer of her family's clan, she was gifted with a new surname by her adopted parents, Alba and Arthur. No longer feeling she was a Deighidhean, she proudly accepted her new surname of Ruadh, or “Roy”, in honor of the deep fiery crimson her hair had become as she grew older (she liked to believe that her fiery spirit contributed to the depth of that color).
Standing at 5'10”, a stocky 230lbs with deep red hair and emerald eyes, Cambria left her Scottish roots at the age of 25 and travelled across the Atlantic to Iceland, seeking to build a new life for herself in the cold mountains near the coastal city of Reykjavik. With an ancient Celtic blessing from her new family, Cambria began to thrive in the cold coastal community, making many friends and acquaintances.
After a few years, Cambria felt a little isolated from the rest of the world, and moved to Central/Northern Canada, in Manitoba, where she currently resides on her own.
