So, this is all pretty new to me. First convention, and I really dunno what to do or to expect. I know the furry community is super friendly and welcoming, but at the same time, I'm kinda dreading going there and not making the most of it. I want to make friends. I want to draw! I want a place to sleep. xD

For anyone who has gone to any con; How was your first, or which was your favourite? What do you generally do at a con when you are there? Were there ever times you went to a con not knowing anyone personally? How'd you break the ice and meet people?

I know these are silly questions, but they are eating away at my insides.

I'm hoping people will be willing to trade badges there, since i'm broke. Is that unheard of/looked down upon?

So, i'm going to BLFC, but I don't have a place to stay. Anyone going who is willing to share a room? I'll sleep in the tub. ;; Otherwise, i'll be sleeping in my car, haha. I have the means to go to blfc due to a rollover when i wasn't able to go last year, and due to not having a job I have no way of renting a room on my own. Bleh. e_e

Also, i'm on a crunch if I want to suit up. Dunno if I ever told you guys, but I have 2 wip suits. One of my unknown character Luz (A wild dog type character I created ages ago for a partial fursuit contest which i won! Butttt the suit fell apart and so I scalped it and waited to collect enough scraps to re-wire it.) and another of my dear Icy. I have enough scrap to redo Luz's head but I have very little suit knowledge so i'm just doing what looks right to me, which may not look nice to anyone else. xD

Icykat has been a big work in progress. I got this spark to try and finish her before the con, but I don't think I can pull off a fullsuit. maybe a partial? I bought the fur back when I actually had money, and it's just been chillin in my closet forever. x_o I want to get SOMETHING done. I dunno if a con would be fun to go to without a suit.

What do you guys think? Should I aim for Luz, or Icy? Should i post some WIPs, would anyone be interested in that wort of thing? Any pointers or useful tutorials out there? I'm pretty much done with the head but i'm mainly looking for nice digitigrade tutorials for icy when the time comes, and also possibly mesh/foam follow-me eye tutorials.

At the moment i'm shaving Icy's head. I need t do her ears still and I have absolutely no idea how to fasten them properly. Maybe i could use a floppy ear tutorial, too. xD

-For the past few months, i've been helping my mom out as well as my gram with some medical stuff going on. Not financially, but just being there and taking care of 'em. In doing so, I haven't had much time for art. Sorry, guys. ;;
- Back when I had money and before i left my job, I bought tickets to BLFC. I wasn't able to attend so they rolled my admission over. I really, really want to go this year. Unfortunately I have no money for hotel, so I may have to sleep in my junky car. x3
-If anyone else is going to BLFC, I am probably gonna offer shaved prices on my badges. I just.. really, really could use some money, if for nothing else to pay off my owed bills. ._.

I really, really need to find a job.

Other than that, i've been okay I guess. Got a few minor injuries here and there, sliced the entire bottom of my foot open on a tile, it's nearly healed up now but it was pretty gnarly. Been having some chronic headaches and back pains from a bad accident in 2007. Waaaaah.

So, in the last week I attended a funeral, one of my family members got robbed, my pup cut her inner bottom jaw on something and bled all over her crate when I was away and is sick with some kind of infection, four art projects I was working on got corrupted after an unexpected computer shutdown and will not load or open, I'm entirely out of money and i've got the bank after me threatening to drop my accounts, superbowl sunday rolled around marking the day my gpa was murdered, and I got a summons for jury duty!

FUN TIMES. I won the friggin unhappy January lottery. :|

Times like these I just wish for someone to talk to. Not even to rant, just to keep me sane. When good stuff happens I get congratulated. When bad stuff happens I get shooed away because it's too depressing. :C

Anyway.

Commissions will be opening most likely today or tomorrow. I really, really need some cash. If I don't pay the red off my accounts they'll be gone, and I have to save up some money for food for mid february because i'll be taking constant care of one of my family members after a surgery and i'll need to feed them and myself. Man.

Can you guys spread some February love my way? It'd be rad for something nice to happen now.

I'm gonna be taking care of my mum feb-march due to a surgery, and to be honest I need all the revenue I can get during this time. I just got back from a surprise vacation with my mom, essentially my xmas present. It was a blast!

I'm ringing in the new year with a few resolutions:
-Be more active. This includes FA and just in general. I have a bad habit of hiding from everyone and everything when i hit a rough patch or am busy doing other things, like finding work. I don't want to be a ghost, though. I miss being here; I miss the people. My friends. C:

-Speaking of work, I need to find something. anything. I've been looking since august and haven't found a bloody thing, and it's serious. I'm ready to give up my phone and stop driving because I don't have the cash to upkeep my vehicle or pay my bills.

-Commissions. I want to start them again, very, very soon, possibly within the next week or so. Not only will it help me financially, but it will give me lots of practice. My pencils need some attention. ;;

-Particular savings goals. I need tyres because as of now I have zero tread on the fronts and it's becoming unsafe to drive. I also need to figure out why my brakes are pulsating and I need a welding job on some undercarriage issue. These things have gotta be done in order to have work transportation, unless i can find something really close. -_-

-Toby, my beautiful love dog, passed away last year of cancer. He was 14 years old.
-In october of 2014, my mom got a new puppy; a rescued GSD of two months. She's kept me really busy!
- My cat, Nala, is still alive and kicking. She'll be 21 in April. C:
-On this recent trip my mom and I went on; we both got piercings! This is a great milestone for me as I had a pretty traumatic experience when I was little and had my ears pierced. Mine is just a simple helix loop.

I don't know if you guys know this, but Halloween is probably my favourite holiday. Not for the candy, and not for the creepy, but it's the one time you can be anything you want to be, and nobody judges you for it. You can run around dressed crazy, you can hollow out gourds like there is no tomorrow, you can put a smile on little kid's faces by tossing handfulls of candy at them.. Not to mention the weather. Crisp. The fall. Light breezes, the colours changing in the trees~ Oooh yes, I love it.

I'm planning a lot of things before this day. I want to try and get my suit done, which is gonna take the biggest chunk of my time. I'd like to get my timeline done. I'd like to try and open a few commissions again to get me back into the habit of finished pieces of art.

I still remember them and they all have places in my brain. Their images are there, I just don't draw them enough.
I was thinking about making ref sheets for them, just for the halibut. but I only really want to invest time into them if people are interested in knowing about them. Otherwise, they stay doodles and locked away up there in my noggin.
They are all very unique.. I had a lot of cartoony characters as well as real fleshed out and developed ones. They all represented different parts of me at the time of their creation.

Anyway, I guess this is just a temperature check on who would like to see something like that. Art of my other selves. If there is any interest, I'll draw some things up, real nice and official like.

I've been juggling four or five projects around for some time now, but I haven't forgotten about my trades and I realized that juggling on several things at once is the reason why I haven't finished all of them in the first place. When I concentrate on many projects, I normally switch and switch and switch in attempts to get all of them started, but it makes it just as hard to pick up from where I left off and continue. That ends now. I've held all of the other projects behind and i'm focusing on finishing this late one.

For those who have been reading my journals, you know what's been going on and how rough it's been these past months.
I will say my head was in the clouds about valentines day, and the trade thing was a crazy idea on my part, especially to accept so many. Not long after I was snapped back into reality where I lost a great deal of things, including a potential valentine of my own who turned out to be a player and so i fell into a funk. Then BAMBAMBAM, yada yada more bad things and more bad things, you get the idea.

Anyway. I'm not making excuses for myself but I do want you to know that i've been working on them feverishly. Back when I originally opened them, I put out sketches of them all; some inked, some not, many, MANY redraws.. Character interaction has never been my strong point, because IK is normally incredibly solitary in my art. I was never satisfied. Redraw after redraw and I finally had decent sketches. I just had too much on my plate to ever finish them.

I told you all that I wouldn't be peeking at any art for my half, and it's understood if you've lost or trashed my half, but if you want your half when finished i'd be happy to send it to you complimentary, just as long as you promise to forgive me for being such a lame-o. And if any of you would like to send me my half (if traditionally done), i'd keep it in my most secret and safest of places.

Anyways. I really think you're gonna like them. Not many works of mine feature a happy IK, let alone a lovesick, nervous, charming or oblivious IK, and I thought i'd use these pictures to tell a story. While I realize none of your characters would prolly go for a crazy little monster like her; I made sure to peel back a bit and show everyone a side of her that isn't normally shown.. Something behind the static, tough and melancholy exterior. And now i'm just smoothing out colours and adding final details. I want to release them all at once. Expect them in the next few days.

Mann, who knew fursona timelines would take so friggin long. I've been in the process of doing a bajillion things at once, but i've been wanting to finish this for a long time, and so I finally compiled all the art of the ole IK I could find. This spans from 2002-2013, and yes, there is a lot. Mostly sketches, but also most never seen before sketches, and you really get a look into how she's developed over the years. Y'know.. for those of you interested in that sort of thing. xD

I'm now in the 2008's region. Scan, crop, resize, repeat.

I'm making this in WMM only because I dont know how to do it any other way. It's gonna be set to music.
I'm gonna try and not make it suck. <3

To keep yer blood pumping about this:
There were some critical points in my life that caused me to shift into darker styles, or lead my own style to "evolve" if you will. One of the most noticeable was in 2007.. I even created an outlet and sort of "alternate" icy because I thought the art I was drawing was just too dark for her. the alternate Icy's name was pain, and it was a green cat character that wore a crown and was missing her left eye. I sort of came out of my depressive funk in 2008-9 and dove deeper into traditional media.

At one very short time IK had long, saber fangs and sported these funky bear paws in the front.

Though the timeline won't show it, IK originally had this dull greenish-grey fur.

IK, as well as all of my characters developed in my young life, were based on raw emotion I was feeling. IK originally represented sadness, panic, and general feelings of negativity. Over time she came to have all of my other human traits, including some physical features that tie us together.

I blame IK's pupilless eyes on my poor eyesight. We both can't see very well. xD

IK's "five 'fingered' paw" is actually fairly recent. Up until 2008/09 I drew her with only four digits in the front and three on the back!

I hit another funk in 2010-11 which caused me to draw very detailed personal art relating to my situation and how I was feeling. IK is still very involved in my feelings and is my outlet to express myself.

She has always had the fin! She was the original "shark cat" and she's jealous of all the other shark animals popping up everywhere.

Back to work I go!

I'm kinda needing to sell some of my old things for money. I'm helping my family with a garage sale in a week or two but I thought i'd ask here first, considering the furry fandom are normally fans of toony-related things.

I've got pokemon merch from way back in the day, ranging from unused crayons to collectible lanyards, gold plated cards and actual trading cards that have never been used to play with. A lot of random stuff i've picked up including big foil stickers, a magnetized address book and little figures and stuff.

I have gobs of disneyland trading pins from back in the day, too, if anyone collects those. (I think most of them are from the 2002-05 range.)

If anyone is interested in what i've got or wants more information, I can provide a list.

So.. After a long pause and feeling like i'd never finish my IK suit; i've decided to stop procrastinating and get her done; because random foam in my closet isn't very appealing and gets in the way of things. I'm doing a huge cleanout of my room and i'm gonna sell loads of stuff because I need money to eat, and I found Icy's unfinished head. I have fur for her too, I really just need to finish sculpting her head , putting her eyes in, furring, etc.. But I really don't have much experience and I want her to look smashing.

What i'm looking for (help/advice-wise):
1.How to insert her eyes. She hasn't got pupils but the coloured part of her eye needs to be surrounded by black.. I want to give her a follow-eye effect even without pupils.. is that possible?
2.Padding help. I want to give her semi-digitgrade legs.. Meaning something not ovely-toony and obvious, but a subtle flow of padding. I also have the issue of her fin. which will require back/shoulder padding of a triangular nature. x_x
3.Pattern help. I am fairly sure I know how to make a DTD, which i hear is very helpful for form-fitting suits. But.. I don't know how to attach the foam patterns to it, or how to make a pattern using both the DTD and foam. To anyone with experience, do you make a mock pattern using a cheap cloth first, or do you just wing it?
4.Zipper placement. Soo.. I don't think i'll be able to put a sipper in the back, considering she has a fin and ridges along her spine. Is there a secret way to make zippers in the front less visible? And do you need it along the chest, or can you put a zipper to the side, such as from the shoulder along the side somehow?
5.Handpaws- I've heard some people use snaps or velcro to sort of "seal" the paws to the arms. is there any advantage/disadvantage to this? And also, i need to pad up her paws somehow. She doesn't have pawpads but she's got sort of knobby digits. IS there a way to give off the illusion of larger knobby handpaws without making her hands the size of trees?
6. Any other help/advice in general.

If anyone with fursuit knowledge could offer advice, links, tips.. anything really.. I'd greatly appreciate it. I want her done by halloween so I can take her for a test drive.

I dont know if i'm happy with the IK head I have right now. It's almost done but there is a lot I just winged and so the ventilation is poor and the eyesight isn't the best either. I'd be willing to take any advice; I just want her finished.

If I have enough fur leftover I might either make a partial or maybe just another head, either toony or maybe even some sort of headdress that I can wear as my human self. If you have any questions regarding the suit or my plans feel free to ask me.

The trades are almost done. This month and last have been really difficult for me because I just lost my great grandfather, and on tuesday I had to put my dog, Toby, down. He had cancer and he wasn't able to function well with it. He was an old, sweet dog, and it's taken it's toll on both my mother and myself. We keep expecting to see him bound through the door when we open it.

It's really hard to lose two people you loved a great deal, in such a short timespan. I've responded to this by turning my room into a tornado zone; i'm throwing a lot of my things away and sorting what i'd like to keep or sell. I have too much. It helps distract me.

The big project i'm working on involves Icykat. As you may (or may not) know, she is 12 years old, this year. I officially drew her for the first time in 2001, and in sorting through my things i've found pictures of her going back all the way to January 2002. I'm thinking about either making a timeline or a compilation video showing how much she has (and hasn't) changed in the past 12 years. Would anyone be interested in seeing something like that?

Once i'm finished with my trades, i'm going to attempt to open commissions. I want to focus on CAATS and tummy ache badges, but i'm thinking about other original badge ideas, too. I'll do some temperature checks on that soon to see who is interested. I really, really need money. Having left my job has taken it's toll and i'm finding it harder to pay bills and buy healthy food. -_-

I went to my great gpa's funeral yesterday. It was really hard.. that's all i'm gonna say about that. But I have closure. I know he's up there with my great gma. It was a long time coming but he lived an amazing life, and I got to keep one of his fedoras. I may start wearing it, even though it's too big and makes me look like a boy. As if I didn't already. :/
