GENERAL FAQ, etc.

- "Generally speaking, how big are your badges?"
My badge size varies case by case. For chibi badges, anywhere from 2.5"x2.5"-3.5x3.5". The size depends on the character, whether it has wings, etc. CAATS can range anywhere from 4x7" -5x8.5" respectively. Other badges also vary. My chimeras usually take up about half to a full page, depending on the type.

-"Your badges seem expensive."
The time and dedication I put into commissions as well as quality materials I use reflect my price and I honestly don't earn much from them at all. I think my badge prices are quite fair, considering my CAATS are fullbody specialty badges.. I've seen fullbody range up for $50 USD per badge or higher.. Simply put, if you don't like the price, you don't have to buy. :)

-"How do you feel about tips?"
I appreciate them! They are not necessary by any means but I will accept them thankfully, so thanks in advance if you feel so obligated. Even little donations if you don't want a badge would be most generous at this time <3

-"What do you do with the money you get?"
Right now i'll be using it all to pay off debts, bills, purchasing food for myself and my animals, and gasoline to get me places. None of the money will currently be used for materials, so i'm stuck with what I have until I can find a place of employment. ;;

-"What do you use for your traditional work?"
I use Smooth Bristol board, prismacolour pencils, mechanical pencils, micron pens, white gel pen, and a big, fatty eraser. That's about it, really. Sometimes i'll whip out the marker, but not usually for commissions as I don't feel as knowledgeable with them. With my chimeras and work other than a badge, I prefer smoother paper as the colours blend better on them.

-"Will you ever open up digital commissions?"
Thinking about it. The problem with digital is; I don't like to have my face stuck to a screen for hours on end. Not only does it hurt my eyes but it's bad for my health. I really don't trust my programs either; I've had more than one occasion of a project freezing up and self-closing on me without me being smart and saving every five minutes. Also, I don't have the means to afford printer ink to print out your lovely badges. It takes a lot of ink to print out a proper coloured badge! I'd much rather stick to traditional badges, although other digital pieces may be available in the future.

-"What are your limits for a commission?"
Well first off, I have and always will be a clean artist. I don't draw detailed nudity because nudity, even in art, generally provokes sexual imagery or thought, and I don't agree with that on a furry scale. Sure, nakedness is natural, but exploiting a naked body, fantasy or not, is something I do not believe in. In other words, I don't draw yiff/fetishes. I don't draw anything your grandmother would raise her eyebrow at. I draw good, clean art, because that is what I enjoy drawing. Small amounts of blood is alright, gore and torn limbs aren't. you can note me with questions about this or anything you may request, but please respect my answer as well as my reasoning, even if we don't agree. Thanks. :)

Went to the cemetery to visit my pops and my grandfather today :(
Went with my moms, who was technically a mom and a dad for me, so it was nice to have the day off and spend it with her.

Had dinner with my two fav'rite ladies; My mum and my gran. Cooked up a kick-ass Vegetarian BBQ dinner for myself and munched away.

Also spent the day gardening and doing commission stuff.

All in all a pretty productive day.. It was nice. I just sort of wonder what things in my life would have been different had my dad been around. <3

I've got a few more things to upload before I decide if commissions are gonna be a good idea or not.

Remember that Original Species I was talking about in my last journal? Well i've been saving the upload because I got the madd inspiration to create a full reference sheet(I still haven't gotten to IK's yet! Oh Blasphemy ;; ). Maybe it'll have enough fans that I can let others create their own unique to themselves or as alternate characters. :)

It really is a pretty cool design. I'm sure people will either love it or hate it, but as far as I know it's fairly unique.
Anyway. I also have a few trades i'm now working on now that i've gotten commissions out of the way, so be on the lookout for those as well.

My birthday is in a week, also. :D I'm not really excited for it so much as just wanting to get it over with, but I am a sucker for birthday greetings because I rarely ever get 'em anyway. So I guess if you guys want to give me somethin', let it be a shout wishing me a happy birthday or congratulating me on making it this far. xD I'd truly love that.

Anyone who read my last journal knows i've got a long lineup of crap to work on. But recently i've been playing around with my colours and i've been thinking about airing out the closets in my head and letting some of my other OC's out to play for a while.

I have a LOT of characters that nobody has ever seen, apart from my family and maybe a few close friends. Would they all be something you guys'd be interested in seeing here? And better yet, would you guys comment on what you think of 'em and show the love?

In mid 2009 I created an original species of sorts. As far as I know it's the only of it's kind and is a bit of a hybrid species. Dunno what I was on exactly when I created it, but it's a pretty solid design, and it makes for an interesting conversation piece. xD

If I unveiled this species, could I rely on you all to show it some love? I'm a little bit insecure about showing my characters but since this is a pretty awesome community, I trust that you guys'd be supportive?

Let me know your thoughts.

I just put three of my old characters into full colour (Which has never really been done before, since when I was young, I didn't have as much colour knowledge as I do now.. ) and I just finished colouring my species as well. So.. Yeah. Comments? Questions? Advice?

..I'm also really considering summoning my oldest characters up from purgatory.. we're talking characters before IK(There is even a character I made before IK who may be the original origins of IK.. if that makes any sense). But at the same time they all have really nice and original designs and I don't want any aspect of their character to ever be copied. But at the same time as the same time, I want people to know about them and how great they are. in a way, they helped me through some of my hardest times growing up. Drawing was the therapy that money couldn't buy I guess? They were my cartoon heroes, haha. So it'd be cool to show them off. I dont know. I'm extremely on the fence about it all. So if anyone got this far in reading, you may offer your opinions if you'd like. :)

..I'm not the best when it comes to animation, but considering all I have is Paint to use, I don't think it came out too bad. (and no, IK doesn't really know how to smile. She tries, though. x3 )
And I lucked out. The frame rate was supposed to be much larger than this, but the filesize is huge for 40 frames. so I had to cut back the breathing cycle and it was exactly 50kb when I was finished. Whoop.

So I don't know whether this is a fluke or not, but on tuesday I had to wake up super early and wait in a hospital waiting room for about 6 hours. During this time I probably only had a good solid 4 hours of sleep, and then I loaded up on the coffee. From the time I got there to the time I left, I had cranked out about 8 or 9 concrete drawings that I LIKED, further proving that I had broken free of my block that had been bugging me for weeks. I'm really glad I remembered to bring my sketch book with me.

I can't show a few of them, because i've never shown any of those characters online and i'd like to always keep it that way.
But I do have an amazing piece that I drew on the back cover of my sketch book of Icykat. I might even be able to use one of them for my ref.

Speaking of my ref sheet...
I have a ton of sketches, now I guess it's just a matter of putting them together and colouring the freaking things. That will probably take the longest unless I use flat colours, which I might end up doing anyway to save a little time.

I have a few other things that need doing, also, as far as art. i'll get those done as well as soon as I can. n_n

Man, I hate that dude. So lastnight I finally was able to break my block of not being able to draw my own fursona, right? I wos so happy about it, that I decided i'd start working on reference pictures.

At work lastnight I came up with a few nice sketches that I could use, But i forgot 'em there like a big eejit. So it's anybody's guess whether my boss is gonna throw them away today or keep them for me. Oh mann, I seriously hope he keeps 'em.

When was she first created?
I'd say it was mid 2001. I was feeling unusually low during those times and since most of my older characters represented emotions, IK was originally meant to represent sadness, isolation, and longing. She sort of evolved into my true self, though, as she grew out of her depressive state and is basically an animal version of myself. She is how I express myself on paper.

Where did the name come from?
Well.. Icy was an alias i've had for years online, even before IK was created. Kat is the beginning of my actual name, as well as IK being part feline, it sort of just fit in that moment in time. It's a bit cheesy, but it works well.

Has IK always looked the same?
As a matter of fact, no! A LOT has stayed the same over the years but when I first created her, she had long saber fangs, bear-like claws in the front, and three ridges on her face and back rather than two. She was also a dingy pale greenish-gray. But she's always been cat/gargoyle and always had pupilless yellow eyes, and always had that trademark fin. She had all those features BEFORE it became popular in the furry world. Eat your heart out, shark people. :P

Speaking of pupiless eyes.. Is IK blind?
No. She can see, but her vision is very POOR. Imagine opening your eyes underwater without goggles. This is essentially IK's vision. If she squints, she can see a bit better. But her eyesight is essentially nil. Why doesn't she have pupils? It's likely that she gets her eyes from being part gargoyle.

]What are her most notable characteristics?
Hey eyes, which are a bright canary yellow colour. Also, her size, and the fact she is so different looking. She is the only one of her kind, and she is proud of that. She is mostly feline(aside from the gargoyle), but she also has characteristics of other animals. Her fin is shark or dolphin-like, Her bottom lip is enlarged, like that of a bear (not not as flexible), Her tail performs more like that of canid species, such as swaying when excited or happy, curling under when afraid or nervous, etc. Her ears are sort of a mix between a brahman cattle and a bat. IK's ears have slightly longer fur than both, though. She doesn't have any visible whiskers! Her facial ridges- She has 14 facial ridges alone! Most are not typically noticeable with fur, though.

What are her strengths and weaknesses?
Her strengths: She is rather large. She is powerful and has an amazing defense, due to being slightly masochistic in nature. She usually looks rather menacing to strangers, which keeps attention drawn away from her. She is incredibly loyal and protective. She is naturally sentient and has an incredibly gentle attitude towards mostly everything. She does not hold grudges. She has a sense of humor and is entertained easily.
Her weaknesses: She cannot see well. She has a permanently injured "wrist". She is missing her lower right canine. She becomes easily angered and can be incredibly emotional. She has many moments of self doubt and degradation. She is somewhat slow and somewhat lazy. She craves emotional support. She is slightly afraid of touch. She cannot make up her own mind around others. She doesn't know where she belongs.

What does IK eat?
Essentially everything her human counterpart eats. She does NOT eat meat of ANY kind. Being sentient, she simply chooses not to eat meat. Though the diet is typically unhealthy for felines, she gets away with eating anything she pleases, probably due to the fact that she is mixed with other animals as well as a mythical creature. She is rather partial to fruits, nuts, and berries of any kind. She loves bland foods. She has an affinity for dark chocolate, coffee, and teas. She does not eat eggplant, ginger or dill.

If your fursona were alive, what would you do with her? Well, considering she's about the size of a bear, I'd probably have to hide her? She'd be public news for months i'm sure. In a perfect world i'd ride around town with her, and she'd be my giant bodyguard. Not to mention with a giant cuddly cat monster, you'd never need blankets or alarm systems for your home. It's be AWESOME to own an IK.

...all I request is that NO pornography is involved, and NO fetishes of any kind. IK is asexual and isn't interested in anyone or anything sexually. She flirts and she can fall for people, but that's about all she does. So please keep any sexual art away from Icy. :)

......IK is a GIRL, and considering she is an animal she doesn't have human breasts. She has "bewbs" but since she hasn't given birth to anything, they aren't all swollen and gross, so they are hidden under her fur. As an anthro, she doesn't have human breasts either, because she is more feral than human in her anthro form. Not to mention, "bewbs" are the most annoying things. I don't like to associate females as walking breasts, anyway. The only exception to this rule is if someone else chooses to draw her this way(*COUGHCOUGH* ), in which case they would still not be so graphic in nature.

1. Hi! What's your real name and nickname?

Hello, i'm Icykat. I guess a brief explanation of my name would be..:
'Icy'- Can be reflected on either my original personality on creation, or my love for colder climates. Maybe a little of both, yeah? And 'Kat'- can either be based on my feline-attributes, or it could also just be the beginning letters of my creator's name.

I have also been called either Icy or Kat, as well as lesser known nicknames, like "Chillykitten" or the "Kat of Spades".

2. Interesting... what's your current age?

I don't like counting.. And especially not my age! I don't act my true age, though, and so it is very hard for people to guess.

3. So...What's your favorite food?

Hmm. I love all fruits! Fruit, berries, seeds, nuts, and other foods easily foraged are definately the best. I abstain from any meats. Though I may be feline, I lack the drive to hunt and kill my own prey. My mindset is that of an herbivore. I like to graze and also to try different things. On that note, I am also a big fan of vegetables, too. Mmm.

I have taken a rather unhealthy obsession to coffee with cream.. -curls tail around forepaws with a purr-

At any rate, I don't have a fixed preference. It's just something I don't really think about.

I love ALL colours! It seems like every shade is just an overload on my senses. Each individual colour has something the others don't and so every hue is just so appealing to my eyes. Every colour is just truly amazing to me. I'm so glad i'm not colourblind!

9. Your biggest fear?

I don't openly admit my fears to anybody, but I suppose one of my greatest fears would be being left alone.. To be truly alone in the world.

I admire all creatures based on their individual capabilities, but I don't have any individual idol.

Hmm.. Poachers! Could you imagine if I got caught by one of those guys? They'd skin me so fast for this amazing pelt... D:

13. What would you do if your hero and your worst enemy got together?
Considering I have no idol.. That would make it Me+Poacher? Umm.. Fight or flight. I'd either maul his face or run like hell ;;

I'd POUNCE! And probably let her ride on my back. And live in her house eating all of her food, considering we both eat the same types of meals. It'd be interesting, haha. xD

I want to be alive? I mean come on! What more can you get out of a feline? It's not like I can get a law degree.

Dying early, being attacked without merit, being burned alive, being shot, and ZOMBIES. D:

To accomplish something. To be my own person. To be free, to explore. To be HAPPY.

19. Ok, where's your favorite place to relax?

I love the oudoors! I love veturing intot he woods, or in mountainous areas. I also love meadows, rivers and the beach especially. -extends a clawed paw, gesturing in deep thought- Being able to run around and get my paws wet is a great experience for me. I love the water..

-pause, face returns to being expressionless- I both like and dislike large cities. I hate the fast-paced lifestyle, and I hate the attitude and distance these places bring. But I suppose it's the gargoyle in me that loves to be on top of these giant concrete towers, glancing over the edge and enjoying the views. Although, I also have an odd fear of heights, so My visits to the tops of towers are usually short lived. ^^;

20. Last question! What do you spend most of your time doing?

Lounging around, being a lazy cat, or exploring outdoors. Y'know.. Usual feline stuff.

We put Ebony Down on Wed. It was really hard for me, but she was suffering. RIP, baby.

Thanks to everyone who posted in my last journal, your words mean a lot to me and helped me realize that i've got friends here. :)

I'm so sorry for the abscense on here. Things have been really rocky lately, but to sum it all up:

One of my cats, Ebony, has a tumor. it grew huge in a matter of weeks, and we took her in to the vet because she kept licking until the wound bled. Vet said basically that they would have to run tests, xrays, and they'd probably have to remove all of her mammary glands, because thats where to tumors originated from.

They also said that because of her age and how fast the tumors grew, that it didn't look good and she might not make it through any major surgery. She's 14, so she could even die through the anesthesia. They also said it's a possibility the tumor has spread into her chest in which there is nothing they can do for her.

We asked about the options. We asked about putting her down, and they gave us looks like we were murderers. But I dont want to put her through anymore of this. I can tell she's in pain, and she's weak.

I tried saving one of my other cats. I did everything they reccomended and they actually ended up making her suffer more before she died. I don't want t put ebony though that. I just want what's best for her.

..It's just been really rough and I havent felt like getting on much. I'm just on to check messages and stuff, so i'm truly sorry for my inactivity. It'll probably be a few days before I wil be on more frequently. Right now i'm just spending lots of time with my baby.

I've decided that it would be fun to draw stuff based off of songs that I listen to. I was talking about it in my last journal, but now i'm sure I want to do it. When I listen to songs I get images in my head, and what better way to get practice in with my drawing than to doodle up stuff based on songs I listen to everyday.

A lot of these are prolly gonna feature Icykat.... Just warning you. She loves to be the center of attention in my pictures. xD

But i'd also like to draw one-time characters, bieng either anthro or quad, and maybe even feature some of my old, olllllld characters who no one has ever seen before.

Like "On Melancholy Hill" and "O Green World", i'm probably going to add the titles of the songs on the actual picture- partially as a tribute to the band/music, and partially to organize what is song art and what isn't.

I encourage everyone to try this! It's really fun and it isn't too hard. Just listen to a song you like and draw your character/fursona doing what you see or feel. Or, if you arent a drawer, maybe you could take a photograph of a certain scene that reminds you of what you are listening to. I dunno. I'm soaking it up, though.

I drew this sketch at work based off another Gorillaz song, called "Hip Albatross". It's a really wierd ass, crazy song about zombies. and I don't think anyone knows, but. I. HATE. zombies. out of all creeper horror things out there... Zombies are my ultimate fear. even above damn spiders and axe-murderers. I don't really even like the song because it's about zombies. xD But lo' and behold, IK was transformed into a happy zombie because of the song, haha.

I'll be inking and uploading this. I might even put colour into it, to make it even more gruesome.

Anyways.. You all should reccomend me a song to listen to! I really like music and want to open my horizons.

Hello, everoyne! So i've been thinking about art lately and how I usually lack the inspiration to get things done.

For my own personal projects, i've been thinking of ways to be more inspired to just draw, even if only doodles. And I thought; Why not draw what I see when I listen to songs? I love lots of different music, and it might give me a chance to get some practice in.

I thought about this, because it seems like the pictures I drew from Gorillaz songs (O Green World, Melancholy hill) are getting positive feedback, and they are pictures i've managed to finish, and actually like myself.

What do you guys think? If you like the idea, I suggest that you try it too, and if you do decide to do this, link mem to your works. ^_^

For those who watch me or read my journals, you know i've been gone for a week. I'm back now, all limbs present, and just extremely jet-lagged and coffee-deprived. Got back lastnight but the migraine didn't let me come online to let you all know i'm alive an' well.

I got a chance to get some art started, and took loads of pictures.
I was basically out all day long though so I wasn't able to finish most of what I got started. There is this one piece of IK which will be submitted later today, one i'm really proud of, so please keep your lids open for that. ^^
