Moving
Posted 13 years agoHello all...
I created a new site and all seems weel with it.
So, eventually I'll be closing this site down, but first I will move everything here to there.
And here's the new site: http://www.furaffinity.net/user/artvulpine/

Why Fur Affinity, why?
Posted 13 years agoBad news all.
Somehow, when I try to upload my new art, I get a 500 error here. I've been trying several times.
So, unfortunately, I won't be submitting any new art until this gets fixed, and I know it's not my end.

New Art coming I swear
Posted 13 years agoHello furries!
I got my computer back before Easter. Everything is hooked up, downloaded, and ready to gp.
So... where's the art?
Well... I looked at some prior sketches, and frankly I wasn't pleased with them.
I could do better.
So, I redid some and got rid of others.
I plan to start soon with my creations, so keep watching!

Style
Posted 13 years agoHello all!
First of all, a little update. My computer is getting fixed, (long story short, the hard drive died, but luckily since it's on warranty it's getting fixed) and hopefully it will be back withing two weeks (Yay!). The only thing is I have to load everything again on the laptop (Boo!).
So what have I been doing in the meantime?
Well I've been sketching some new art and seeing which of my art I did previously I want to try and redo now that I have a tablet.
But the main thing I'm trying to do is find my style.
Style: that elusive word that is also so prevalant in art. Every artist I watch on a regular basis has a certain style. some make their art have a lighter tone, others a darker tone. Some like using a certain color, others use lighting and shadowing to dictate the mood of the piece. Some look for more realistic art while others prefer to draw things more toon like. And the list goes on and on.
The question is... what is my style? What is it that makes my art stand out? By standing out, I'm not meaning that I'm trying to be better. I just want someone to look at my art and say "that's Inari 85's art."
Have I found this style yet? I'm not quite sure. I feel like I'm still experimenting with it. Even my established characters like Whimst and Art Vulpine and my fan art keep changing.
So artists and watchers: how did you discover your style?

Wacom!
Posted 13 years agoI decided that my mouse was too fickle to be used as a drawing tool. You may have noticed that some of my curves are not the smoothest and my lines not the straightest. Althought I can't blame it for all of that, my mouse did have a part in that.
So I got now a Wacom Bamboo Create and have been fiddling around with it for the past few days.
I like the pen idea, especially because I sketch my art anyway before scanning it.
Interesting enough, when using the eraser function on GIMP it doesn't erase the entire line when using the pen. I might try the eraser on the pen instead of the eraser tool on GIMP.
The only thing that bugs me about the pen is the clicker. Sometimes I accidentally click it, but it isn't a big problem.
It's slow going right now learning how to draw with a Wacom tablet rather than a mouse but I know my art will be cleaner looking and that eventually I'll get faster with my drawings.
Speaking of drawings, I sketched over 20 pieces of art! Yikes! I think I should stop until I get a few colored.
My goals for this batch are: Improved backgrounds and creating pieces with two characters. And of course general improvement.

What's Next?
Posted 13 years agoPhew! Finally my first batch of art is now complete!
I must say I made some good strides since I started, and I'm looking towards improving my art.
So you may be asking... what's next?
Rore of my furry characters (duh!)
Spesifically you'll be seeing more Whimsy and Art Vulpine.
You'll also be seeing some more random furry art.
And more ponies!
I still will be drawing the mane six and the princesses, but I'll be trying some others as well.
And I'll be drawing more OC related art.
So get ready because it just gets better from here!

They don't do justice to the completed works. Instead I prefer to stick with completing the work.

Tips for GIMP
Posted 13 years agoIt's been a few weeks since I downloaded GIMP and began using it.
So far I've learned some nice tips.
1. Layers are you friend. Since I hand draw my sketches, I scan them, create a layer for ink, then delete the sketch after inking, then create a layer for base color, then layers for shadowing.
2. save files in GIMP's native xfc file type, and then when done switch to jpeg or png as GIMP can't save layers in any other format except xcf.
Other than that, you saw my first piece completed on GIMP with Whimsy. There will be more to come. I plan to convert all sketches to full color art in time.

Happy New Year!
Posted 13 years agoWishing everyone a happy new year.
My resolutions.
1) Continue with the fanfics.
2) Now that I have a scanner and GIMP, I'll be working on some coloring. This will be mainly of my furry character Art Vulpine and a new one named Whimsy, my MLP RP characters, and MLP main cast.
So stick around and you'll see some fun things for 2012!

My goals
Posted 14 years agoSo now I'm starting drawing.
I have created some goals to aid in my art progress.
1) By early next year when I have my new computer I will install GIMP to aid in coloring my art and touching it up.
2) Early next year I'm going to polist Art Vulpine and my pony art as well as try some other things.
3) Early next year, I will be working on backgrounds to give the art more life.
4) Hopefully by the summer, I will be trying my hand at comics.

Reinventing Art
Posted 14 years agoIn 2010, nine years after beginning to explore furry art and one year after considering myself part of the fandom, I created my purple fox fursona, Art Vulpine. Yet all I did up until not with him was create a biograpby sheet about him.
I realize that a fursona is typically a fuzzier version of the creator, and my character is no exception. Art is basically me, just with a crazier personality. Yet I have woefully neglected him these past two years!
Well now this is going to change...
I have thought of a multistep process to reinvent him.
1) Update his information sheet, adding more details.
2) Create some fanfics about him.
3) When I improve in my drawing, I will first create general pics of him and then eventually I will move to comics.
So there you have it! Fear not, the fox will be back.

Doing something crazy!
Posted 14 years agoOk...
After some thought I decided to do it.
So here it goes...
I'm going to actually draw art!
Yeah scary I know!
Yes, I still have a few stories left in my mind that I plan to do, but I want to try my hand at drawing.
So what will be drawing?
Well, first it will be my fursona, Art Vulpine.
I will be drawing my OCs from the two MLP:FiM RP boards including Sky Rocket, Apporta, Apple Cider, Giding Light and others.
Speaking of My Little Pony, I will be drawing the Mane Six, the princesses, the CMCs and Derpy!
I also plan on drawing other furry art, and anything else that sparks my interest.
This will be a slow process as I'm still learning and I wasn't born with a paint brush in hand.
So stay tuned!

Furfright!
Posted 14 years agoA few days ago I went to my first ever furry con, Furfright, on advice from my friend. I didn't know what to expect, but it was amazing! I loved meeting all the furries who were very nice to me. I loved cruising through the Dealer's Dungeon, the dances, the panels, the bronies I met, everything! Rest assured I will be back next year!

Updates on my life.
Posted 14 years agoHello all.
It's been a while hasn't it. Life seems to be quite busy lately. I however still am part of the fandom rest assured. I am writing, mainly My little pony related fanfics. Hopefully I will write something about my fursona soon. I have recently bought a new scanner which I hope to hook up shortly. Then I will begin drawing furry art finally. As for conventions, I plant to attend Fur Fright, my first con. Yay! This will be the test for attending future cons like Anthrocon.
So there you have it: somethings change, while others stay the same. I will try to be more active here and actually post something (gasp).
Until then, keep creating and being inspired!

My involvement in the fandom
Posted 14 years agoCertain events over the past month had made me ponder the extent that I wish to get involved in the furry fandom. As I mentioned before, I have many interests, including the furry fandom.
So this is my tenative plan:
Drawings: I'm still trying to produce some art. I'm in the process of looking for a good cheap scanner. At this time I don't see myself selling doing comissions or requests as I have just started drawing. Perhaps in the future I will, but there are a couple of steps before that.
Writing: I will still be writing furry stories. Hopefully I can write more than I have previously.
Furmeets: While the local group I'm in seems to be dead or dying, I do plan to create a new furry group for Northeastern PA with the help of others in the area. my goal is to achieve a dramaless group as frankly I'm through with petty drama.
Conventions: I will be going to conventions. I'm thinking about trying FurFright this year and Anthrocon eventually. I don't plan to go to every con. One per year is enough for me.
Fursuiting: Much as I think it would be neat to walk around as my fursona, Art Vulpine, I don't see spending the money if I'm just going to one con per year possibly.
Websites: I will still be on Fur Affinity and Deviant Art.
So there you have my plan for being in the fandom. The goal is enjoying the fandom without going overboard and missing out on other events/ activities.

Confession - My new addiction
Posted 14 years agoOk.
I have a confession to make. It's something that I've been keeping a secret for the past week. I feel I have to tell someone now.
So here it goes...
I'm addicted to My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
There. I said it.
Actually I found that I have a personality like Twilight Sparkle. She like me is very bookish, level headed, and orderly to the point of obsessiveness. She also had trouble makking friends, something which I had trouble doing as a kid.
So there you have it. The truth is out.

Five things you may not know about me meme
Posted 14 years agoThe rules:
Post five things that others may not know about you!
1) I go on paranormal investigations (think Ghost Hunters)
2) I love collecting crystals, spesifically Amethyst and Quartz
3) I love Native American art.
4) In college, I was a metal DJ. My DJ name was DJ Metal Lord and my show was The Silent Scream.
5) I liked furry art since I was sixteen, but I did not know about the furry fandom until I was twenty.

Creative rush
Posted 14 years agoMy creative side is messed up.
There are times I stare at my computer screen or a blank sheet of paper and I can't creative if my life depended on it.
Then there are times when you have so many ideas bouncing in your head it feels like if you don't write them down you'll explode.
I just wish for some consistancy in my creativity. Let me be inspired and be able to let my thoughts and words run freely rather than sporadically.

Movies
Posted 14 years agoFollowing up on my Good Movies post, you are probably wondering how I rank movies.
I give it like a school report card looking at everything: acting, directing, scenery, special effects, music, costuming, etc.
Here's the rank:
A - An great movie! Added to my Good Movies List. Definitely see this one in the theater.
B - Very Good. You should probably see this one in the theater.
C - Ok movie. Probably good to see on DVD/Blu Ray. Not really worth paying to see it in the theater.
D - Bad movie. not even worth seeing on DVD/Ray. This should be seen only if there is nothing else to watch on TV.
F - Horrible movie. Not even worth your time to watch. Avoid it at all costs.
Note most of the movies I watch are ranked B or A. Few I see are C rated. None yet I've seen that are D or F.
I also don't watch every single movie in the theater.
I mostly like action, drama, fantasy, some scifi, some comedy, thrillers, and psychological horror.
I will be posting some movie reviews in the near future.

Me ... A Minority?
Posted 14 years agoSo I was talking to some furries on a forum about stereotypes associated with the fandom and are the stereotypes truthful or lies.
So apparantly one thing led to another and I learned something very interesting.
Brace yourselves kiddies!
I'm a minority in the fandom.
Let's look at the stereotypes and what I believe in, shall we?
Note that these stereotypes are ones that I hear, so in no way am I carrying them on.
1) Stereotype: Most furries are from the age of 16 thru college age or about 22.
Truth: I'm 25.
2) Stereotype: I have purple fur, so I must be a gay furry as many furries are gay.
Truth: I'm straight. (Nothing wrong with being gay mind you)
3) Stereotype: I'm a fox, so I must be into extreme yiffing or fetishes.
Truth: I like art and stories that are anyehere from G to PG 13. I don't like fetishes. Tasteful nudes are ok.
So there you have it. A straight purple furred 25 year old fox furry who likes relatively tame furry art and stories.
The moral: Stereotypes look just at the overall forest rather than each individual tree.

Delays
Posted 14 years agoWell it looks like I'm not going to get my art on here any time soon as my scanner is busted.
It is an old one (2000) and it was my dad's, so part of me is not surprised.
Hopefully I can get a new one.
Anyone have a preference?
I'm looking for just a scanner as my printer is still good.
