Posted 7 years agoAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand, it's still dull.
Wooooooooooooooosh
Posted 7 years agoSo, I decided to write about my first con experience. I wanted to start it on Friday while the first two days of the con are fresh in the mind. I will preface by saying that my experience may not be as exciting or spirited as others, but nonetheless an experience that caters to my state of mind and being. This is also only my second ever true furry meetup/event, so my take is a little more on the outside looking in still.
I’ve never been starstruck before. Until now. It’s one thing to sit at home and browse all the media, all the videos, all the art, all the in jokes, out jokes, suits, suiters, fursuit crushes, cons, con news…. Then it all manifests right before you (usually in front of a bank of elevators.) So, I did what any normal, first time, quiet, newfur con goer would do: I hermitted my tail off. As someone messaged me said: “BLFC sounds like a dive right into the deep end.” Not wrong.
I actually found myself wandering around the con space, observing, taking it all in. Because that’s my angle. That’s just the way I work. The first thing that really hit me when I arrived was the amount of energy. Obviously fursuits are a big draw and are extremely striking, but you could see it from pretty much everyone, suit or not. There is this vibrant energy radiating from that part of the hotel. It’s almost physically glowing. And after spending a few days around only furrys, that glow would probably be multicolored with some sparkles thrown in.
The dealers den was crazy. One of the things I’ve wanted to do since learning about conventions was check out all the sweet merchandise and physical artwork of the fandom. Such a colorful array of pins, shirts, prints, accessories, even soaps! There was stuff I didn’t even know wtf it was used for. And that wasn’t even in the 18+ area! Ended up purchasing a couple art prints, key chain, and a couple shirts. (Im really not a party animal, just liked the design.) I also got a couple pieces from the art show. Sorry boys, no NSFW pieces this year.
I was able to catch the con group photo in person on the floor, and the thing that stood out was out of the hundreds and hundreds of fursuiters, each one was unique. I watched for a good 20 minutes as suiters streamed through the door, each one unique to their vision and character. There is a metaphor in there, and that my friends is something I will not forget. Oh, and watching the photographers literally herd cats for the lion and tiger shoot. That was great.
The dance competition was incredible. Each one brought their own style and flair to the performances. It takes a lot of guts to perform in front of a crowd and it was just awesome to watch. And choreographing all those moves and hitting the mark in a fursuit can’t be an easy task either. Didn’t catch the floor wars, but I’m sure that was just as impressive and fun.
Something else that really stood out was the roommates I had. Obviously, you can tell I am a pretty highstrung person. But I felt so comfortable being in their company and allowing myself to open up and just “be.” Didn’t feel like I had to hide or put up a front like I usually do. Could just let go. They wanted to make sure my first was a great one and they easily accomplished that. And this leads to another point, that was that everyone was just so kind. Every interaction was smooth and positive, from being squished into an elevator to waiting in line at closing ceremonies. I smiled a lot this weekend…
That’s about it. One of the better experiences of my life. I am glad I fell into this world and to call myself a part of craziness and humor and general fun. It has shown me so much in such a small amount of time and look forward to what else it has to offer. Can’t wait for next year…

Intro
Posted 7 years agoI expect this part to be used quite a bit in the future...
I enjoy writing. Non-ficiton. Essays, blogs, journals. The saying is "write what you know" and boy do I know all about my life. With my writing style, I try to convey a sophisticated, yet laid back approach to topics with a splash of humor and informality. In other words, easy reading. Painting a picture with words. Basically, I want the reader to feel like they are having a conversation with me and feel engaged to what is being examined.
I'll just leave it at this for now. Something to get some content on this page haha.
Why am I a deer? Cause it feels like me :)
