FOR THOSE OF YOU UNAWARE OF MY CURRENT PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT I AM IN THE UNITED STATES NAVY AND JUST FINISHED UP SIX GODAWEFUL MONTHS AT SEA
Pardon my last journal, it was hard to understand, borderline cryptic, if you don't know me. What it translated to was that I was deploying at sea for a half of a year and will not be doing jack shit on the internet.
Unfortunately that means I haven't posted anything and might have lost a few watchers in the balance, but whatevsies, their loss.
Operation Enduring Boredom
So it was a pretty shitty deployment. We mostly just wasted time around Middle America looking fordrug smugglers drugglers. We caught one boat with three dudes and that was it. The rest of it was just being idle and bugging the shit out of fishermen. The first four months felt like we had no real purpose, and then the last two months we didn't have any jurisdiction to catch drugrunners so we actually didn't have a purpose. TWO HUNDRED HEARTS. NO MISSION. As to be expected the food underway was shit, even moreso since we were far enough away from home that we could only get gross panama or guatemala supplies. Thanks to having to wear these boots all the time I was able to contract and defeat athelete's foot DOZENS OF TIMES. We only visited three ports, and I use the word "port" lightly. The areas we were allowed to go in Guatemala were a tourist trap market and a bar that opened at 10(a disaster, we drained it FIVE TIMES) and Columbia was just the bar. Panama City had a bit more to offer, albiet shit anyways. They're pretty far behind us and as much as I wanted to culture up more, it was just not fucking worth it. Everything was so sketchy and disgusting down there. We visited panama about six times. One of the cool things about Panama City is that they have these ridiculous busses that putt around town all the time. They are all painted to be fucking obnoxious and are usually lined with lights like the floor of a movie theatre. They have horns that outclass our ship's whistle and are so stupid that they are magnificent. We were not allowed to use them, not that I would, because they are apparently great places to get mugged and/or raped. We ended up renting a limo a couple of times for the entire night for sixty bucks and it was usually five of us. I mean, it was a shitty limo but way better than cramming into a cab. Of the few cool things that went down we went to a brazillian steak house, where they brought out cut after cut of delicious different kinds of meats until we were all ready to bust. That was one of the one cool nights I had. We went to see Battleship and that movie was cooler than I thought it would be, and far fucking cheesier than I thought possible. It also doesn't help that I'm in the military and a lot of the shit they did didn't make a damned ounce of sense.
And that's all we had for ports this entire deployment.

OH AND I ALMOST CAUGHT A WIERD SEAGULL When we were cruising close to shore we would always be flocked by these wierd birds shaped like seagulls with brown backs and white underbellys that quacked like penguins. During some rain we were doing something outside and on occaision one would land on the deck to rest or something, I went for it and it was super slow and awkward taking off again. The first one got away completely, the second one I was able to touch but didn't act quick enough to grab it. Had I been given another attempt I swear to gosh I would have caught one.
Several weeks after that we were in different waters I think (I don't care) I was doing some maintenance on something on the front of the boat and a Boobie landed on the deck and couldn't take off again. I have been told something about the windcurrent over the front of the ship makes it hard for birds to get airborne again. Either way I chased that thing into a corner and got to pet it a few times. It bit me but not that hard. I couldn't get angry because it was so goofy looking and I LOVE BIRDS. I wanted to pick the thing up but I couldn't find anyone nearby with a camera to capture the moment so I just chased the awkward bugger to the edge of the boat where he could take off again.
One advantage to it all though though, when I go out to sea there are no distractions, no communication, no new video games. The only things I have are my tablet, my imagination, and all of the time in the fucking world.
What would I do with these few things?
Something productive, I can tell you that much.
Anyways...

Christmas, Deployment, and the end of Commissions(for now)
Posted 14 years agoOkay so I'm not going to be able to spend christmas with my family because I took the first POM(Pre-Overseas Movement) period so I got to spend thanksgiving and two weeks of whatever with them. I am currently reporting from my parent's house in kansas and will be flying home home tomorrow.
So come January 4th, I will be leaving civilization in order to battle the forces of cocaine around the wilds of south america's ocean and stuff. Apparently there will be wifi at some ports every now and again so I might be able to check in every now and again. When that happens expect a storm because six solid months of ocean time will cause a wicked spike in productivity most likely. ALTHOUGH THIS MIGHT NOT BE POSSIBLE AT ALL SO DON'T EXPECT ANYTHING.
And since I will potentially be cut off completely for six solid months...

Posted 14 years agoGonna post this last set of icons then bump them up to $5 a piece. The first stint was fun but I don't want to be making these things that cheap forever. Yeah yeah yeah it's only two frames of work but it gets sickening fast. I believe five entire earth dollars ought to make up for the lack of enthusiasm to do them. Note me if you still want one.

We played don't wash anything games for a week. I was trapped in worn boots that don't breathe and dirty socks for seven days. The athlete's foot has progressed to blisters and I limp to stay off of it. I FUCKING HATE THE OCEAN
Anyways, got a fuckton of work done on the fantastic pirate ship chimera, want to put more detail into the thing and turn my scribbles into a less crappy drawing and show that shit off. I did a bunch of dirty scribbles but those will have to remain scribbles for now, might color one of them. Honestly I'm kind of fucking arted out after being able to do nothing but that and video games for two and a half weeks.
Speaking of video games and two and a half weeks fucking Harvest Moon: Tale of Two Towns came out the morning of the 20th, right as we were pulling out. I had that shit reserved forever and I miss it by two and a half weeks. Fuck everything. Well I got it now and fuck art, I got crops and ladies to deal with. (I'm on day four and it's already a wonderful harvest moon game, but it)
blink Will be here on tuesday and the apartment should be sort of set up, we still need furniture but we are on our way to having a happy home in the glorious city of a whale's vagina, San Diego.

Posted 14 years agoLet's start with a marriage adventure recap.
First off, spent some time with natsuki-raichu, kitsunequeen, Cho and other tiny mexican girl with the coolest purse. I picked up a ton of magic cards because I am the headmaster in charge of the biweekly magic the gathering tournament here at the recyard. I got four event decks as practice fodder and then some more boosters for me to continue to build up my few shitty decks. We hit up a goodwill to try and start on my steampunk outfit but the only thing we could find that looked alright was a tie of the color I'm shooting for, so that's a start.
The team (My parents, favlaud, vjohnson and his wife) started arriving and we started to have a good time, we all had mediterranean food and me and fav berated my dad for watching fox news and I found out that my dad's almost racist, fixable though.
The wedding was the most annoying part of the whole thing, although quick being in uniform is always bothersome and I hate paperwork. But we got it all done and such, favorite picture of the mess here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6427984/
We went to the zoo and saw SO MANY BIRDS. THERE WERE SO MANY YOU GUYS.
After the parents and the family gabe went home, me, the wife, and fav went to fucking legoland, which was très ballin'. There was tiny Washington D. C., Vegas, San Francisco, and the Battle of Hoth, all very important locations in America. We kicked some punk ass four-year-old with our awesome carthe rapenator the Changepurse.
We looked at a few apartments and then called it at that.
Trying to get a place that is not the boat but that all, of course, depends on the schedule of said boat. Once I have that place down and good we can start working on getting blinker out here and start settling in to finish out this whole navy adventure.
So yeah, I'm gonna go back to trying to drawing or something.

Posted 14 years agoI probably should have said something but whatever. I am reporting from a Starbucks in Portland Oregon right now and it has been quite the adventure. First night here I got all of the trashed and had duty the next day (I was still drunk for most of my duty day, go navy)
I have another day here at portland before we head back to san diego at a very very slow pace.

Posted 14 years agoGot the tablet pen a lot sooner than I had expected and got that working so all seems to be well.
Just got back from two days doing sea trials and I have learned that when you turn our engine to full ahead with no stabilization fin I get pretty sick. I made it to the toilet in time but overshot it by a foot or so, had to clean up vomit off the wall behind a toilet in a very cramped head before they gave me something to knock me out while we hit the really heavy stuff. Apparently I can only exist on land or sea, going from one to the other makes everything weird. Right now everything feels like it's wobbling even though that is impossible. Anyways, I'm currently set up the Rec Yard internet cafe and was going to do a stream but this environment is kind of hard to get into a groove so I'm just gonna blast my music or comedy and do some doodling.

Posted 14 years agoLiving on the ship is kinda balls, but it could always be worse. We're in a training phase so we're parking on shore for quite some time. I'm able to get internet at this little recreation internet cafe food place thing called the recyard, it's pretty alright here, never enough outlets though. Even though I've only been doing the actual navy part for a week, I don't think I want to make a career out of this.

Might be raising the price if these things kick off (preexisting purchases will go unchanged)
I believe they are worth more than six dollars, I just do not believe my fanbase is large enough to support such a price. :V
Visual references are not required but help greatly in the production. I can work off of verbal description alone, some sort of superpower I suppose.
