Furry updates and things
Posted 9 years agoSo where to begin, lots of things have been happening over the last year in the Kentucky community and I couldn't be happier with the growth we are seeing.
Firstly and probably the most importantly, we are now an incorporated 501c7. This is due largely in part by our resident finance cougar taking the initiative and filing the paperwork for us.
The next is that The Menagerie is finally moving from its quaint little location into an actual hotel space! That means that we are looking to expand and need your help! If you would like to attend The Menagerie, please head here and register!
Kyas.us/menagerie
Kyas.us/menagerie
Kyas.us/menagerie
BONUS!!! Info about the organization as a whole can be found on the main page and we are looking to expand our board of directors.
Thanks for reading guys, it's gonna be a wild ride.

You know what would be nice?

Rant over.

Holidays and Salutations (Another Rant)
Posted 10 years agoHi guys, nothing to do as I sit here so it's time to gather around and listen to another fantastic rant from a certain blue ferret.
Now I like most people have a job where I must interact with the public at large. Unfortunately I have to interact with a high volume of people for a short amount of time, normally less than one minute or so per person. This causes one of my most hated social occurrences to happen... small talk.
I hate small talk more than anything. It does nothing to further one's social standing, nor does it impart any useful information about a person, it simply exists to be filler in an otherwise uncomfortable situation. I however do not mind sitting there in silence as I do my job and move you along. But I have to make small talk when Joe public decides to initiate what he thinks is a fascinating and stimulating conversation about how busy/not busy we are...
Let's make one thing clear right now people, if you walk into a place of business and think you are clever or intuitive by commenting that you've never seen this place so empty or never seen this place so packed... you're not imparting anything new to an employee of said establishment. On the contrary, you are probably annoying the hell out of them because they have seen it empty/full every day.
But that's not even the tip of the iceberg yet my friends. I hate how small talk starts... The dreaded "How Are You?" inevitably precedes the small talk. When did this question become a salutation? I hate it because it's a loaded question when in public and working, you cannot answer honestly if you are having a shitty day, because people think that's rude. But my argument to that is that most people don't give a flying flip about how you are doing, they just ask because they are conditioned to by "polite society."
"But Inu" you say, "This has nothing to do with the topic of your journal." Au contraire mon ami, I am getting there. The final part of small talk that I hate... and this is the big one, is the farewell. This isn't as bad during the year as it is during the holidays. Everyone and I mean everyone instead of saying goodbye wishes you a merry Christmas or happy holidays. This doesn't bother me so much as it does on the actual holiday. If you wish someone a merry Christmas at their place of work... while they are working... on actual Christmas... you are a horrible person.
Yes I absolutely mean that, you as a consumer are the reason why they do not get the day off. So no, do not wish people anything on Christmas, in fact, do what you're supposed to do on the holidays and stay home, enjoy your family, write a loved one, but don't be the person that causes people to go to work on the day that they want to be with their loved ones.
Once again, these are my views, and I stand behind them 100 percent. I'm always open to comments or new insights, but if my views offend you, you're always welcome to go somewhere else on the Internet, it's a big place, and my little section shouldn't affect your happiness :)
Happy new year folks!

What The Hell America (A semi informative rant)
Posted 10 years agoIn the past few weeks, there have been three high profile shootings by police officers in America. One story just broke hours ago and I feel like it's time for me to chime in with a personal story.
There is a tl;Dr if people don't want to read it after the three hashes.
---
Driving to MCFC last year, I was stopped by a Kentucky State Police officer. My passenger in the vehicle was my ex boyfriend and roommate
lustlegion. I knew I had been speeding and was fully prepared to accept the ticket, but that wasn't what was on this officer's agenda for the day.
Before I get into the details, I should forewarn you all that I am very menacing looking. I am a pale white male with short brown hair, glasses, and a mostly needy visage. My ex has shoulder length blonde hair, is skinny, and has piercings, also white. These descriptions will come in handy later.
The officer approached my car and I did everything I was supposed to, even though I am well versed in my roghts. He asked for my license and insurance and registration which I already had in hand, and asked me if I knew why I was stopped today. I told him that I was stopped for going ten over in a 70 mph zone, I have no qualms about admitting this.
He went back to his car and ran my license for about ten minutes, this is where I started getting a feeling that something was off. He then came back to the car and began his true mission, to find a crime we didn't commit. He proceeded to ask us where we were going, and being versed in what the polive can and cannot do, I started feeling a bit uneasy, but I answered that we were headed to visit friends in Michigan. He asked my ex how we knew each other and he responded we are roommates and friends.
Then the question happened:
"You all wouldn't happen to have drugs or alcohol in the car would you?"
At that point I should have shut up and requested my lawyer, but I figured if I am polite, like I was taught to be, he will understand and let me go. I responded that I did not and he requested my ex's identification.
Here is mistake number two, I let my ex hand over his id without protest. We were then subjected to another ten minute wait while my ex looked at me and said, "I think I'm being profiled." Now LusrLegion is a tall skinny blonde haired guy with a goatee and wears sunglasses due to photo sensitivity. He looks like a hippy and I do believe that the officer suspected him of being a druggy, which he is not.
After ten minutes of waiting, the officer returned without my paperwork, and handed my ex back his identification. The officer then proceeded to ask what I was fearing would happen all along.
"Do you all mind if I search the vehicle"
Now at that point I had had enough of this farce, I stated that I do not consent to searches in any instance of my person or vehicle. The officer did his song and dance of why was I being evasive, why was I trying to hide things.
The culmination of this traffic stop led to me and my ex being asked to step out of the car, to which Iocked the doors. We were both searched without consent or being informed of what we were suspected of, and detained for thirty minutes before I finally consented to a search where I was allowed to watch his every move.
The kicker, the speeding ticket that he wrote me was printed off two minutes after the stop commenced...

Cops believe everyone is doing something wrong until their suspicions are proved otherwise. They don't trust you, you should not trust them.
My advice to everyone regardless of race, gender or creed:
-know your rights and exercise them in a controlled manner
-record your encounters and have them uploaded to a drop box account, I use fivo recording now with every encounter.
-KNOW YOUR IDENTIFICATION LAWS! IN CERTAIN INSTANCES YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PROVIDE IDENTIFICATION TO THE POLICE!!!
My fellow Kentuckians and Americans, here is what I know is legal and cannot be violated:
-In Kentucky, a passenger in a vehicle for a routine traffic stop does not have to provide physical ID unless they are suspected of criminal wrongdoing.
-if a police officer asks you a question that is potentially self incriminating, you do not have to answer it. It is in your best interest not to answer any questions, including do you know why I stopped you today?
-You do not have to consent to searches of your home, your vehicle, or your personal effects under the fourth amendment, and you should not ever consent to a search without a warrant.
-It is not illegal to film the police! If they say that you are obstructing, you can politely ask where you should stand so you are not obstructing them. You can and should film any and all encounters, knowing that they are being filmed may save your life or others in a tense situation.
Remember, police do have a high stress job, and they have a right to be skeptical. But at the end of the day, their job is to ENFORCE the law, not go fishing for things that haven't happened yet.
Know your rights, be respectful, and stay safe!

Two years to comment on a mods abuse of power...
And the leadership wonders why people are upset half of the time.
Also this journal is to hold the current leadership accountable, it should never take two years to respond to anyone.

Waiting for a Plane
Posted 10 years agoSo I'm boarded and waiting for take off, so I thought I would take the time to make my post con report.
Second year attending and this is rapidly becoming my favorite con, well worth the plane ticket.
This year I made a couple new friends and played more poker than I have at any con before. The highlight of the con for me had to be the poker tournament, it took three bullets, but I finally took home my first win, which made me ecstatic.
Plane is taking off, more later...

Unexplainable Bouts of Depression
Posted 10 years agoOkay, this is an open up journal that I hope will explain some of the issues that I freely admit plague me on a daily basis. Not a sympathy journal, simply one that might help people see what makes me tick.
1. I have an irrational fear of growing old. Not just losing my youthful looks but becoming a burden on society and my loved ones. This fear is not simply one that "everybody has," mine has progressed to the point that I willingly take on self destructive behaviors to help speed along my inevitable progress towards the end. I don't know why I have this obsession with growing old, it's something I have dealt with since a young age.
2. I do manage chronic depression without pharmaceuticals. There are some days where I cannot find a reason to keep going, and I keep a note on my phone of the people who I need to keep going for. I try to manage this aspect of my life as well as I can, but I know it shows through.
3. I do like to be around people, but at my own pace. If I drink a bit at a party, it's because I feel social anxiety and need help dealing with it. I know I am brash and abrasive and if I do offend I don't mean it a lot of the time. The older I am getting the more I want to tell the people that I have alienated in my life that I am sorry.
These conditions are not excuses as I am and have been fully aware of them for years. I believe that writing this journal may be good for me to express my feelings on my own mental health, and maybe help people understand the irrational behaviors I sometimes exhibit.
So anyone up for some group therapy?

Why furries use pseudonyms...
Posted 11 years agoAfter reading some comments on news articles, I had a thought and possibly a new outlook on something. Why do furries use pseudonyms? Most of the detractors in the comment sections of the news articles produced this weekend claim that as a whole we are a group that does not know what is socially or morally acceptable. I submit a counter argument here that our use of pseudonyms disproves this claim.
A lack of caring for a social norm would mean that we would stand behind all of our actions with our true identities. The use of pseudonyms and anonymity plus the high control of the media coverage of conventions can be construed that we do recognize that we do not fit a social norm and that while our culture is harmless to outsiders, we understand that people see us as weird and are therefore threatened by what they do not understand.
In the interest of not being prejudged by our families, friends, coworkers, and employers, we choose to don a mask of anonymity so we can openly enjoy the freedom to do what we like with minimal intrusions in our lives.
In essence, a furry convention is much like the Internet as a whole. A highly connected group of people hiding behind different levels of anonymity. As seen firsthand, furry conventions have their own cliques, subcultures, and interests. The thing that ties us together is our own self awareness and willingness to go to any length to preserve what we love.
While there are those that may disagree with my sentiments, realize that as someone of integrity this is my personal opinion of being a part of this fandom for over a decade. I appreciate any form of civil dissent and welcome any support, and thank you for reading this long journal of mine.
And the obligatory tl;dr: Furries are mostly ethical people with a few fringe outliers, just like the rest of the world.

a long overdue journal thing
Posted 11 years agoJust because I haven't posted anything in a while. I went to ifc this weekend, it was eventful, furthered my own interests in the furry world and I am quite content right now.
Also I think I should probably post this here because it needs to be said:
lexjaeger is still the best big brother I could ever ask for and nothing will change it.
arloriansloane is derpy as all hell but I still hold him as a dear friend... I just like to razz him a lot.
ahzi and
lance_tersus Helped me smile during my little crisis.
stormgryphon is the best big gryph friend I have and I was sooooo happy to have him talk with me again!
Also special thanks to Abrahm for chatting with me and thanks to huscoon for awesome hugs and self in pics! If I forgot anyone, you all are still the greatest and I will see you all soon.
Oh. Just derped
iggy deserves a shout out for white castle and stuff.

TMI tuesday, character quirks.
Posted 11 years agoComing to you from all the way in the deep south, another TMI Tuesday journal. This time I have decided thanks to another user I follow that I should do another group journal. So here we go. Share some quirks of yourself, your character, or both!
Inu
- Actually hates cigarettes, only smokes them to keep up a tough guy image.
- Secretly loves pachinko, stupid gambling habit.
- Hates being called weasel, sees it as a slur but deals with it.
- Has an obsession with having a clear desk.
And maybe if you all share something with me, I will share some of my actual quirks :) but just to whet your appetite.
My quirks
- If I have cash, my main preference to pay for things is in $2 bills.

Posted 11 years agoOkay, ask me anything, but this week you have to share something about yourself, preferably something I don't know...
Well, go on, get to sharing and asking!

Poker Thursday!
Posted 11 years agoAlright kids, it's a start of a weekly thing where I get to pick people's brains on my favorite game.
We will start with something fun, a hand of No Limit Hold em:
You are playing heads up and you are holding Ace Jack offsuit in big blind, the small blind raises preflop and you simply call him. The flop comes Seven of spades eight of spades and jack of diamonds and your small blind checks, what do you do?
Feel free to elaboratee on your responses, I like seeing how people think :P

Let's talk Goals
Posted 11 years agoAs I sit here I realize that I would like to share with you all a little life goal that I have had planned for a while now.
For a few of you who know me personally, I love to play poker, it is my relaxation outlet. I have been eyeing the big time for a while now, practicing at smaller tournaments and cash games, and I feel that now is as good a time as ever.
Next year I am planning on attending the World Series of Poker and participating in a $1000 No Limit Hold Em event. While I do plan to have my own money for this event I am also looking for sponsors.
This is another year in the making but I figure I would throw this out here first, anyone know a good way to find sponsors? I would be willing to sell pieces of my clothing to wear logos of companies, wear a hat with your logo on it, anything.
Any advice is good advice :) I am going to make this happen one way or another

Watch spammers...
Posted 11 years agoI honestly don't mind them much, but I just recently got one that kind of irked me...
How are you going to randomly watch someone and then make the request on your front page that others refrain from randomly watching you? That's kind of ridiculous...
Just a little mini rant in my endless war on stupid.

Talking about you meme (Do this one!)
Posted 11 years agoComment with a present below and I'll tell you things about you!
I will:
1. Tell you what animal/creature you remind me of.
2. Tell you what color I think fits you.
3. Tell you how I feel about you.
4. Insult you.
5. Tell you my favorite OC of yours. (If you have one...)
6. Tell you what season you remind me of.
7. Tell you what food you smell like in my head.
8. Think of a random nickname for you.
9. Tell you what element you remind me of.
10. Ask you to put this in your journal without using the words 'tag' or 'dare'.

Stand Proud!
Posted 11 years agoStand up, Stand up, Stand up!
Shooting across and beyond!
All right now! All right now! All right now!
It's a vigorous bullet!
Break you down! Break you down! Break you down!
Let these fists fly free, with this hallowed vision, STAND PROUD!
