MOVED TO SIREN TAILS!
Posted 11 years agoYarn Tails Why do I make them?
Posted 12 years ago Hello everyone, you may call me Sai; the nickname that I use throughout many of my accounts, as well as InvalidSirens. I am normally a traditional artist but I am beginning to learn digital painting and many more tricks. Before I learned how to make yarn tails, I was making tails with fabrics. My freind showed me online this weird video on making yarn tails, and I didn't understand it at all. She told me how she was trying so much to make her own tail, but she couldn't get it to look right, or even move. She all but gave up, until I offered to try it myself. After learning how to tie yarn into bundles and place them on a braided feature; I kinda ran with it.
I had easily figured out how to place the yarn, and once I did, I came out with my first tail. It took me days... 6 days to complete this tail. And I was loosing my mind through the entire process. My first yarn tail was the cotton candy tail, that you have probably seen here and on my deviantart page. When I finished it.. I didn't want to stop making them. Instead, I took my first tail for a test run... I washed it. I dried it. Tried to iron it. Swished around to make movement, even had my friend pull the tail to see if it would break apart.
It was durable.. I liked it and was happy when It remained the same way... but then..:
The fur had began to mat... and puff. It didn't stay straight. I couldn't figure out how the hell it did that. Why the yarn didn't move anymore and stayed still as if it was placed in a light socket. It was frustrating.. I took conditioner to it. And was like " No... this isn't right " You don't put human hair conditioner on your dogs fur why do you put it on this. "
I struggled to get it straight again... and finally I came up with an idea that ended up in the end working quite well. My yarn. Red Heart. Oh my GOD. ITS SO LAME TO USE I HATED IT. Instead of using Red heart for my yarn bunds... I used it for the base. And tried a variety of other brands instead.
Some brands, did the same thing the Red Heart did. They just... stopped moving for a while. It was the most rage quit breakdown ever. But I didn't give up.... At times I did something else and left it there. Because I was loosing it.
These yarn tails I make. I am not just selling them. I am not doing this for money, even though I need it. I love making these tails. Knowing that I can use yarn to make something you can hardly find is crazy!. And I needed to learn. Now that I have learned to make them, I feel I have mastered it. I have no technique to be honest. I just do the simple steps that the video showed.
How to tie them
How to place them
How to straighten it.
All I learned from that video on youtube. But then I went a bit wild. I didn't just want to do those steps all the time, I wanted to make my own kind of way. And this is how they got the way they are now. There is no hot glue. No glue what so ever. Every bit of my tails are yarn and no animals are harmed in the making of them. The only thing on my tail that isn't, is the keychain.
Depending on my schedule, my yarn tails I have managed to make in 1 day tops. Depending on the size. Some even take 4 hours. Better than the 6 days it took months ago.
Each tail, that I made personally, without request, are tails that I enjoyed making extremely. I couldnt, I didn't want to let go of some of them But i have a small room, and a mom who sneezes when she comes across small threads of fuzz that come off of my brushing spree. I still have my yarn tail, that goes down to 40 inches long. (( Yes it drags )). It is a mixture of white, purple, grey, and even oddly enough neon blue. My friend, who has been with me throughout the entire process of making these tails is in college now. And I send her a free tail every month XD
I know that this journal is long, but I had to explain why I make these tails.
Making these yarn tails was the fun that I wish my friend didn't give up on, because they are very easy to make if you just put your mind to it. Sadly, I cannot do a tutorial, because you have to use your creativity to make yarn tails. Just don't give up <3 they are so soft * w *
Alright I am rambling. If you read all of this you are a very kind soul. I just needed to answer the faqs about why I am making these tails and how. Now back to doing request XD
