Take the little things for granted...

That badge right there, was my most cherished piece I had. Not because it was some big name artist or expensive, elaborate piece, but quite the opposite. It was done by Brio, originally the first person I had ever selected for my ref sheet before Tsaiwolf. After discussing details with her, she disappeared. I literally ran into her that following year at Megaplex '09, my first con experience. To be honest I hated the con, I was out of my element and fursuits still creeped me out, I was unsure about my sexuality and the whole thing was just a nightmare But running into her, she felt bad that she had disappeared on me and did that badge for free. I'm not going to say I became close friends with her, but she and I hung out for a few weeks after that, so it made the piece that much more special. I loved it... it was small durable and did the job a badge should do, display name and character. In fact, since FWA it has been the only badge I bothered to pull out whenever I went to a social event... but with EFF tomorrow I fear I lost the little treasure in the move between houses. I Checked every container in my new place, my car, and even went back to my mother's to scan the remaining boxes there, but it hasn't turned up. I hadn't realized til now just how much that simple little badge meant to me, and now it's gone. Even worse is she's fallen off the grid entirely again, and getting just some other pin badge won't feel the same.
Sorry, I just had to vent about this upsetting turn of events... I knew I'd lose some things in the move but I hadn't prepared myself to leave almost a piece of my identity to time. Curse my sentimental attachment to stupid things. Thank you anyone who read this.

Guild wars and guilds
General | Posted 13 years agoBeen in the game since the second day of prerelease... and I'm already addicted so I'm sorry to anyone I might have been neglecting or anything else I might have forgotten since the game has dropped. It's been a while since I'v had experience with a good MMO so it's like getting back on a hard drug after 5 years of sobriety x.x Well if anyone else is playing, I am on ehmery bay (as most furries seem to be) and have my own guild with local and other friends around the interwebs. The guild is called Embers of Entropy and If you want to join, give me your name in comments below. I'd really appreciate some more friends in, we just got started and desperately need the influence to start building it up and making it a beneficial guild, plus we'd love more people to contribute in conversation, raids and whatever! look forward to seeing some of you in game, I hope everyone else is having fun with it.
Megaplex
General | Posted 13 years agoI'm heading to it this year if something doesn't pop out of oblivion to derail my plans (again). Does anyone have a room with space open or is looking for a room. If you have the later, then me and
palshife might have a room to host. Just lemme know, if I can't get any more people, then might just come for Saturday.

Torchlight 2 Beta
General | Posted 13 years agoI've been running around on the Torchlight 2 beta lately thanks to a key that the generous
felixfox has let me borrow
First off I wanna start this journal with: I am not comparing Torchlight 2 to Diablo 3. They are in no way the same game, in fact I believe the only reason Diablo is once again on shelves is for Blizzard to beta-test a real-money marketplace before the throw it into WoW and potentially ruin their biggest cash cow.
Now, beginning the actual review... It's almost sad that I find this a positive but it's the first game in a while where I can definitely FEEL all the steps forward it has taken as a sequel, while being unable to count one step back. The game already feels like a full push forward to evolve the torchlight franchise, It still carries the old-school Diablo 2 feel of game-play, while expanding upon new ideas and mechanics that don't make it feel like just some other MMO. The pets are now more functional, including their own equipment sets and ability to be given a grocery list when you send them into town. There is this new 'charge' feature that works differently for every class, rather than just being the generic " Time to go batshit crazy" build-up bar that most games have. Well, For the embermage it's like that, seeing a for a short time he gets unlimited mana when he gets his bar full, while the Engineer charges "nodes" which help specific skills become more powerful. Still haven't figured out how the Outlander's charge works, nor have I touched the berserker. The multiplayer system, I couldn't have asked for it to be any better than it is now. You are given a server list much like FPS's these days... each one marked with difficulty and the average level of the players present within, even before you join you can see what classes are inside and their levels. Hopping in a game is simple as pressing "Join" provided the owner of it hasn't put a password on his game. Once you're in, joining your allies on a path of mass-murder and looting is simple as walking to the waypoint at center of town, and picking an (Unlocked) destination, or even clicking the check mark next to a teammate to port directly to them and hop in the fight.
Gear wise, it's the most fun and annoying part of the game. The random-gear generating engine that was in Diablo 2 and the original torchlight is back, but this time with a vengeance. "Set" items are more frequent now, in fact it feels like 'set' is simply an adjective or enchantment that is put on the wheel and spun when an item gets dropped, so you could have 5 different pieces of the 'clovenhoof' or 'runemaster' set when it only requires 3 for the max bonuses. Of course there are still unique weapons, and even unique weapon sets. One good bit is all the gear you see, only you see it, so grab away without worry you're stealing that shiny, expensive pistol from the Outlander int he group that might need it. In fact, this feature seems to promote brotherhood, as even in the beta with people I've never met, we would frequently trade just to give each other class-specific equipment unlike MMO's where you'd hoard it and throw it up on the auction house soon as you were done with the dungeon. Fishing returns from the first game, but has a more fable-esque feel to it seeing as I've caught more than just fish, including the cliche pair of boots (Which I actually wore for a few levels after ID'ing them) but the most interesting thing I've found, is a fish that can PERMANENTLY change your pet into the beast in question. Not sure how common these are, but I'm sure they will be highly-prized on trading forums once the game is out, especially for the critters with special attacks like spider's web and what not.
Anyway, feel free to ask any details I didn't cover already, but it's looking to be an excellent game and I'm stoked for it to come out (Rumors are it's coming in July) and for 20 bucks... it feels like a steal. Hope to see some of you on it!

So about Elliots
General | Posted 13 years agoCan't make it, just had to dump about 130 bones into fixing my car's AC because driving a black car around during summer, in Florida is downright suicidal without that precious resource. I've had a few people offer to cover my entry and room but there's still some other expenses to worry about... and to be honest it just doesn't feel right accepting money like that. Guess I'm a bad jackal? Who knows.
Anyway, what I do know is I'll be missing out, but to be honest I think a quiet weekend is better for me, it's been sort of stressful lately as I've been cracking down on finding a new job and stressing to find my own place soon. Plus... I fully intend on making AC this year, even with such short planning but I've had a few bits of fortune carried my way, all I need now is to conserve my funds until the time to drive up comes. Sorry for anyone who was expecting me there, but to be honest, anyone I know there already lives within a 30 minute drive so we could easily see each other on free time. I was a little excited to see the new hotel, but unless those crazy 2012 prophecies hold some truth, it's gonna be there for next year's event.
Hope you all have fun though!

No I'm kidding, just realized in 21 days it's my birthday. *shrug*
Just posting about it because last year maybe 4 people I knew said happy birthday and it was kinda a downer, so guess I ought to inform someone that it's coming lest I feel neglected.

Anthrocon, Florida... ride required
General | Posted 13 years agoOk so I stupidly decided a little behind time that I want to go to anthrocon, and it's a little too late to get a plane ticket, I already have a room I can bum a bed from, but the biggest problem is a ride. Like hell I'd survive it alone. So if there's anyone within a reasonable drive from the Tampa area that's driving to Anthrocon, could you let me know. I can drive myself to another location as long as it's alright that I could ditch my car for a few days. I'll pay gas and what not, just really need to get on this now.
Thanks for any help you can provide

Kingdom of Amalur: I reckon it's alright
General | Posted 14 years agoOk I'm gonna start off this little review with, who the hell hired Dr. Frankenstien to make an RPG. Honestly as I run around this game it feels like I'm playing not just one game, but about every western RPG that I can remember turning on. At first glance, the game looks like someone recycled a bunch of WoW resources that Blizzard deemed too high-quality for a family computer hijacked by a 13-year old to run. Playing it feels... well again I can't narrow it down but the combat is a massive deja vu of Fable 1. And I love it. Amalur's combat so far feels like what fable 2 and 3 SHOULD have evolved to. Rather than Fable's MELEE, RANGED and SPELL keys, Amalur works on two weapons you can select and swap between, then a separate key for spells. On the pc, spells are hotkey'd to the number keys and you can easily swap between ten. There are still the typical paths for a fantasy: fighter, sorcery and rogue, but the way you can meld and balance the skills and stats ( in a very MMO-style tree) can really produce interesting fighting methods, I am currently running around in a suit of metal armor smacking baddies with sword and magical staff alike. I have yet to touch rogue skills but they look pretty crazy, don't even get me started on chakrams (sorcerer weapons that are thrown and auto-target in general direction) which make some downright badass looking moves and kills.
The loot and item system is directly from an MMO, going on color-coded tiers and even weapon sets that give a bonus when all pieces are worn. The crafting is honestly my favorite thing they tweeked, breaking down weapons for the parts that give their assorted effects/buffs and re-combining them into a sword or staff with all the desired bonuses you are looking for. On my first try I created a sword that was better than the one I had been using. A lot of weapons/armor get thrown away, sold for cash, or plain broken down for parts. Game progression so far is interesting as well, you have no locked in class, or stats for that matter, any skills can be returned and re-assigned at a specific location. "Classes" are fat card which can be equipped after you've put x amount of stats into the three trees, right now I'm running might/sorcery and the class path I take gains all kinds of cool bonuses such as dodging replaced by short-range teleporting and a % of damage I do is returned to me as mana. They really want you to become a demi-god in this game. There is a "fate mode" mechanic but it's basically your standard built-up power mode in games. You might have heard but the lockpicking is straight out of Fallout/Skyrim with a few of it's own tweeks. They also brought in a new type of lock for mages, cursed loot bins which you must dispel with a reflexed-based mini-game.
Finally for my first-day review, the atmosphere is something I rather enjoy, despite the WoW-ish graphics, it feels fun to explore. I honestly found it difficult to motivate myself to run around Skyrim, the world felt so recycled as did the enemies. Running around Amalur, the areas actually feel different, and I constantly find myself yelling "The fuck is that?!" Before takinga few swings and promtply running away when it throws unfamiliar attacks at me. Some of the npc convorsations are a little corny, but the found audio logs ( recorded on magical stones that look sorta like satellite dishes) and written logs are all very well-writtten, depending on the character behind the recording/document. I really look forward to continuing the game and seeing just how much of an overpowered maniac I become.

Merry Effing Christmas
General | Posted 14 years agoGreat December, awesome December. So last weekend I get dragged to Dallas for four whole days of chilly winds and otherwise boredom inducing hours to endure a wedding and then fly back. So that was the blast I can call a weekend. When I get home, We quickly take my car to the mechanic who has a knack for fucking the entire family at once, and miss two days of work while he's in the shop repairing it. Two days and about 704 dollars later I finally make it to work today, and guess what. Terminated! And not in the cool way that I get a Governator shooting at me, no, a "Sorry we don't think you're right for this, hand over your keys and parking pass" and that marks the end of my internship, right as nobody is hiring and in about 5 days everyone will be laying off the extra holiday employees. So yep. Merry Christmas to all and a crappy new year.
New alt design, possibly 'sona revamp
General | Posted 14 years agoSo this character has been sitting in my head for a while now, he started off as an antagonist for a story but I ended up liking him more than the protagonist for it. The idea is a veiled chameleon (might alter exact breed as long as it doesn't have horns jutting from it's face) who's pretty much a hacker. It seemed to fit super-well, the ability to watch two screens at once, the claws are set up in an interesting way, almost like they have three fingers and two thumbs, would be interesting on a keyboard. I'm not sure whether I should feel cunning or horribly cliche, but his handle on forums or the hacking community would be 404, playing off the camouflage motif. Thought it was a rather unique though fitting character, with some interesting little tricks, like the one time he messes up and gets his IP traced back to him, he just crawls out of the window of the 20-something story building and hides out of sight while law enforcement barges in and searches for the suspect.
The funny thing is I've always identified with reptiles really well, and as I think about this more and more it almost fits my flip-side way too much. Where as I tend to be loud, obnoxious and snarky, it fit jackal , but At times I ca be super quiet, rather lethargic, hate being the center of attention and just want to be left the hell alone. I dunno, I'd happily take your guys' thoughts on this.

General | Posted 14 years agoPlease, for the love of god relocate the damn log out icon. On reflex I nail it dead on when I try to go to personal page or latest notifications. Why the hell is it in BETWEEN the two?? And worse, when I log on with my phone, unless I zoom in on it's location 70% of the tim I hit it on first attempt. Just tonight I had to log in 7 times because I continued to gamble and lose. I can't be the only one dumb enough to find this frustrating and a reoccuring issue. I'm saying, it can't be a bit deal to put it on the left, or even several lines lower than personal page and notifications. If you're not gonnna release that fancy new UI, could you at least grant us this? Ten minutes of site editing at best?
Minecon aftermath
General | Posted 14 years agoHoly shit. What an epic weekend
For you who weren't following any of my excessive and needless twitter posts, It was quite fun. Me and my high school buddies arrived on Thursday afternoon to get settled and walked the Vegas Strip to kill time. It was very interesting, the casinos were amazing. We stayed at Mandalay bay, where Minecon was held, and quickly took a look at several others. I INSTANTLY fell in love with the Luxor, not simply because of the overall Egyptian theme of the place, but the sheer beauty and amazement that it's architecture possessed. I had no idea the entire pyramid was hollow. We played a few hands of Blackjack within it's casino before calling it a night and heading up to get ourselves registered. In line some interesting things happened, for one the head of the Minecraft news was several places behind me in the line, and my friend was conversing with Potatoe0rgy, the man who made a 1:1 replica of Hogwarts within Minecraft all by himself.
Friday was intense. Roughly 5000 people made it to the convention, and the line to get in was huge. Once we finally got in, it was a sight to behold, a giant Creeper was located in the center of the gallery, and there were quite a few things to do. We mingled a bit, did some "Irl Minecrafting" where you dug in a pit of wooden blocks decorated like actual Minecraft ones in order to get ores and exchange them for tool key chains. Hurt like a bitch with all the corners, and I managed to swipe a few blocks for fun. Eventually it came down to the opening ceremony in which Mojang team was introduced and Notch fired off the launch of the game. Later we caught the Mojang Panel and got a first look at Cobalt and Scrolls, both look very promising. Even later than that I spotted Jeb and a few other Mojang members in the Casino's general store buying booze, flagged them down and we actually got to talk with them face to face about Scrolls for a bit. Amazing people. Amazing game. Finally Saturday was wrapped up with a small party for the entire fan base, at which me and my buddies ended up waiting in line for 2 hours to get the man's autograph. I got to shake his hand, and when I told him face to face he had an awesome game, he didn't seem to know how to respond, despite making a goldmine of a game, he is still just a normal guy.
Saturday started off with meandering around the con for a bit until the Yogs had their panel, which was enjoyable until they dropped a few F-bombs in front of several hundred underage viewers, and later Notch ended up chewing them out. He even uncovered tonight on twitter than the two are egotistical assholes, claiming they should have gotten paid for coming and that Minecraft is popular because of their podcast. I got to play a bit of Scrolls first hand, a very fun and innovative game which I can only describe as "Chess and Magic the gathering getting drunk, having sex in a bathroom stall and Mojang delivering the child". It had a few bugs being int he pre-alpha stage but it's got nothing but promise to show. Things were fun and relaxed until we went to the XS club at the Wynn for the "into the Nether" party, at which Deadmau5 was DJ'ing. It was fun, regular club goers were confused why Minecraft decorations were everywhere, and it was some time before the DJ of honor arrived on the scene and lit the place up, at which time it would be easier to net a spotted owl than get anywhere near the dance floor.
Sunday was for rest and relaxation before our flight, not much to say about it other than a Gameworks run. Seriously I cannot begin to describe all the awesome things that happened in the two days the con went on, so much happened. Anyway I'm back home and happy I got to enjoy such an event, though I'm sure it will be the last one I attend
Also I got some pretty awesome stuff at the con, which I had to show off here:

Minecon Headsup!
General | Posted 14 years agoAlright for you who actually talk to me on a regular basis, you should know my ass is being flown across the country to glorious Las Vegas to attend the one and only, Minecon. For those of you who don't speak withe me regularly, well, yeah, surprise. On Thursday the 17th I'm gonna be flying out, we're gonna get our registration and be set. I won't be returning until next Tuesday since me and the high school buddies decided to stay a few extra days because c'mon, it's Vegas, to be honest I dunno if I'd travel this far if Minecon was anywhere else. Anyway, yeah I won't be around much for that time, I might pop on messengers an Irc from time to time but if you want to get a hold of me, either drop a text or keep an eye on my twitter, that might explode depending on just what happens around there. But yeah, we so excite. Hope the rest of you have a good weekend, I'm writing this now because I might not have time to be on tomorrow, plus I wanted to piddle away time at work.
Hey look, another free art raffle!

Life changing things, and other stuff
General | Posted 14 years agoSo lately I've had the greatest opportunity of my life. Lately I started an internship with an amazing company called Yuma solutions who is a rather large name in the IT world. It will be a while before I get paid, but my foot is in a door a lot of people would give their carriers for. This company is deeply involved with a lot of right-wing politicians. They provide the domain for many of their Email accounts, and this year are covering all the IT for the upcoming 2012 Republican National Convention, which means I will be giving a helping hand in such activities and even be attending it in order to offer my support along with the company. This is seriously the biggest thing to ever happen to me and is opening so many doors to my future. Unfortunately It's a nine to five job, so my days of sleeping in during the week are over, and I won't get to stay out as long but such an opportunity is worth it. I'm super excited.
On a side note, I thought about doing a fun little event, but I doubt many will care since A. few people watch me and B. who the hell pays attention to journals that don't regularly give out free art. Anyway the idea is posting journals as a piece-by-piece story as if such a thing is happening to my character, eventually to be posted in completion as a submission, Not sure if I'll go through with it but it sounds like an interesting idea.

General | Posted 14 years agoFree Minecraft skins
General | Posted 14 years agoSo yeah now that the word "Free" has caught your eyes, I think I've been enjoying making Minecraft skins, It's a fun little challenge trying to craft someone's character out of low-resolution graphics, so to see if it'll catch on, I'll take a handful of requests to see how fast I can make em with good quality.
If you're interested, leave a comment and a link to a reference sheet. IF you got a long-ass text description, I'mma have to turn it down 'cuz it's really annoying to make a character accurately if I have to reread it multiple times/
Oh yeah... forgot, samples

Hey, you watchers, yes you, read this
General | Posted 14 years agoThis is to promote a friend of mine who is an amazing artist and deserves some exposure.
Go take a look at
grentain 's stuff, the guy has an amazing gift for fine detail with armor clothing and fur. His prices may not be the cheapest but it's definitely worth the quality of what you are getting.
And for all you who are going to megaplex, make sure to keep an eye out for his stuff, he's been debating setting up a booth in the Dealer's den, so I told him I'd get his name out ^^
