Transformation
Posted 4 years agoNobody will read this, but refresh my avatar and you'll see - I've decided to turn into Isla. Somehow, all this time when I was uncomfortable having a fursona in my stories to represent myself, I didn't realize that I could just decide to be a voluptuous and confident raptor girl.
This account will still be the same, but I might write in character as her sometimes :)

Another Zoniverse story by Dai
Posted 5 years agoI forgot to promote this for so long!
heartlinedai wrote a Zoniverse story featuring his character meeting up with Gwen. https://www.furaffinity.net/view/36209345/ It's a wonderful look at some more of the Zoniverse outside the studio, some of Gwen's thoughts in her summer job as an announcer for IZ Live, and the wonderfully relatable feelings of nervousness about talking about this private interest :)

New Industrial Zone story!
Posted 5 years agoAfter eight years away,
thefanfox has come back with a follow-up to her Backstage Crew story, another look behind the scenes of the Industrial Zone :) I absolutely love getting fan work about my world - please give her attention and praise here! https://www.furaffinity.net/view/36068149

Competition results!
Posted 9 years agoThanks so much for all your guesses - I'm actually amazed and happy that so many people are still paying attention to this account :) I put Tails, Sally, Rouge and Tikal through an Industrial Zone game to give you your result - read the scene to find out who won!

Competition for my readers
Posted 9 years agoWho wants a chance to be written into a quick scene?
I haven't written a scene in a while, so I wanted to spur myself on to do a couple. Here's a competition for you - in-universe, the people behind Saturday IZ are putting a team of celebrities into a game and offering a prize for guessing how well they do (and out of universe, this will involve me writing about gunging four Sonic characters). The outcome of this story is going to be decided by a random number generator - the team are going to have enough time for 8 to 12 questions. Each answer is worth a maximum of 100 points, depending on how quickly they answer (100 has to be instant, about 60-70 would be more usual) - but a wrong answer gives them nothing.
Long story short - guess a number from 0 to 1200 or so. If you guess closest, you get to put a character of your choice into an Industrial Zone gunge machine of your choice - it can be you, another Sonic character, or anyone you feel deserves it. If you nominate a character by someone else, I can reach out to the owner to ask for permission if you haven't already, but bear in mind I won't gunge an original character without their consent!
Submit your numbers below, I'll post the entire scene and announce the winner when I feel like it :)

!!! Clockwise !!!
Posted 9 years agoI have been waiting for this to show up on Youtube for years and years... and tonight it did. This is Clockwise... not only an episode of the show that nobody seems to remember, but the exact episode that caused my lifetime fascination!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3rmOEgD5Hg
Skip to 9 minutes through to see the exact moment where I was messed up for life! The game is a little less unbelievably messy than I remember, but the memory tends to be generous to stuff like this (apart from the gunge game on Motormouth which was exactly as intimidating as I remembered). Just the idea of being 'trapped', watching your partner try to avoid making mistakes, fascinated me... as did the mechanism visible on the gunge machinery, which looks like a rotating valve that's being activated electronically. I've got to see if I can build one of these ;)
This is the stuff that would later go on to inspire Industrial Zone... and if you take a look at the final game, answering questions under increasing "distraction", you'll see exactly where the Dragon Den scenes came from as well.

Friday Night Party pony-vote complete!
Posted 9 years agoThanks for everyone's responses to the poll - it was a thrilling race to the finish but one character has come out on top :) I haven't got anywhere near the time I want to write in the next few days, but I will enjoy the result when I get to completing the story - and I hope you do, too :)
Friday Night Party pony-vote update - one day to go
Posted 9 years agoThe vote has had a spectacular response from twisted wonderful people everywhere, and the playing field has been very competitive - one of the girls is at the head of the pack of five now, but only by one vote! So if you haven't made your choice yet, you could swing it :)
The one straggler is a surprise to me - but perhaps it speaks to what the audience want :)
If you haven't taken part yet, you can read the setup at http://www.furaffinity.net/view/19640493/ and vote for who to go in at http://goo.gl/forms/lpsUSNdfpD !

Friday Night Party pony-vote update
Posted 9 years agoHere's an update on the slime vote for the Friendship Is Magic girls!
- I continue to wonder what I'm doing with my life
But with that aside, I've already received the most votes any Friday Night Party vote has got by absolutely miles - you people really want to see this happen :) Surprisingly the field has been pretty equal so far, but I can see two of them edging ahead of the pack just now - I won't tell you exactly who they are, but they're both winged.
But this might all change throughout the week - I'll be watching closely until I close the form at the end of the day on Friday.

Thirty
Posted 11 years agoShockingly, I'm now thirty years old!! I'd like to give
rencat a mention for giving me a surprise :)
When I posted this journal... FIVE YEARS AGO!... I said that writing about gunged furry girls might begin to be a bit weird when I was older. What do you think? :)

Go and read 'The Afflicted'!
Posted 12 years agoWhen I first met
kjorteo at Furfright 2012, he was in the middle of writing his first novel and got a great reception from the writing panel for its introduction. A year on, it's now finished - it's called The Afflicted, and it's available on Amazon with a free sample here! http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00H3WR07E
It's definitely very unlike my own writing and the kind of things I usually enjoy reading - it's a fantasy dystopia in which the air outside a few isolated cities is infected with an unknown virus and the survivors in the wilderness are picked off by hunters from the cities. But the way it's written really hooked me on the characters and their journey - it's well worth taking a look at it.
His own submission has three sample chapters, nearly half the book: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/12230112/

New stories on Weasyl!
Posted 12 years agoDue to Furaffinity's shortcomings in areas such as backend reliability, management and being a functional website, I'm going to start posting new stories on Weasyl for a while - you can follow me at https://www.weasyl.com/user/iron-k ! I've already put a couple of scenes up, one new and one that you might not have seen before, in the Other Shows folder at https://www.weasyl.com/submissions?.....folderid=29987 .
Already, the whole thing is organized so much better it's insane - I can sort stories into folders (most of mine are hidden until you register) and give much more of an appearance of coherent series... I'm under no impression that a mass switch to Weasyl will happen, so I will still be crossposting here, but I want to try to make a move towards Weasyl as a primary place to put my writing.
Enjoy!

The first gunge game I ever saw
Posted 12 years agoSomeone's only uploaded the first example of this stuff I ever saw on television! This is where the fascination began :) This was a game section on a Saturday show called Motormouth - it starts at one minute through...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ko1Hv4VhiDQ#t=1m03s
The first time I saw it happening when i was five, I was terrified and hid behind the sofa - and looking at it now, I think that was ENTIRELY the correct reaction! That massive, looming nozzle sliding inevitably towards you... it's ominous and glorious and exactly the aesthetic that I wanted to conjure up in Industrial Zone! Are there any furries that you'd like to see under that thing? :)

New gunge story: Citadel
Posted 12 years agoI've fallen behind in my writing ever since finishing IZ7, but if you want more along the same lines,
darknessfalls has just put up the first part of Citadel, a story that's styled after Industrial Zone in a mediaeval fantasy setting. It's a fantastic start, so if you enjoy it, please leave him some encouraging comments :)

If you want more slime fiction...
Posted 13 years agoAs I haven't posted any new writing in months, let me recommend someone else instead - I don't think I've ever mentioned the impressive Slimecore series here. This is a series written by a friend who wishes to remain anonymous, and it's just had its fourth yearly episode released - it stars humans rather than furries, but otherwise it's based on the same philosophy as Industrial Zone, and it was a real treat when I discovered that someone was writing something so close to what I loved.

Ask Alex about IZ
Posted 13 years agoI'm working on the final chapter of IZ7! I know it's been a long time, not really helped by events over the past year, but it'll get there... soon!
I still have to write the section where the team and Alex prepare to head back into the set, and I thought I'd throw this out to the readers... are there any questions about behind-the-scenes stuff on the show that you'd like Alex to answer while they're waiting?
Feel free to ask anything... even if the question doesn't make it into the story through one of the characters, I might put together another interview page like the ones from years ago to answer them.

Mad idea
Posted 13 years agoI had a dream last night and found that an idea in it wouldn't let me go, so let me just gauge interest... if, once I finish IZ7 (which despite the massive gap in releases is something that I do actually intend to do in my life) I were to vanity-publish it through a print on demand service, would anyone be interested in getting a physical book copy of it?
Initial research suggests that I'd have to price it at about $15 a copy.

Everyone read this!
Posted 14 years agoI meant to post about this much earlier, but being at Furfright and various other things got in the way -
scani recently posted the first part of a great addition to the Industrial Zone series, IZ Live. It's a stage show version of the kind of thing you've come to expect from IZ, featuring a few characters of his and
susi's as well as Rachel from the very first IZ episode along with a new character, her sister Uma. I had planned to release a story introducing her, but I took so long on it that he got his out first :)
If you enjoy IZ, read it - it's great. http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6666314 . It's wonderful to be able to actually read some of this stuff rather than writing it for a change - and I really am quite touched by the backstory in the foreword :)

Home from Furfright
Posted 14 years agoWell... what a weekend :) I've never seen that many furries in one place before, let alone those who I knew by name. It was great to meet everyone I did there - I honestly had no idea how many people enjoyed (or, indeed, had... read) my stories, and I'm really happy at the idea that they might have inspired anyone, in however small a way, to come forward with their interest in this stuff as well. In 2003 when I met
susi, it was amazing to learn I wasn't alone, and this weekend was like that feeling all over again.
When I made up this Internet name disguise for myself, I hadn't ever considered that I would actually... meet people under this name at all - I'd love to have you all watch my main FA account if you now know it, but please don't mention the link between the two accounts to anybody just yet (no matter how rapidly the secret is slipping out of my grasp) - I still like being in some semblance of control over who knows about this side of my life!
With the barrier down a little more now, though, I'm looking forward to talking to you again soon :) And I'll see you next year!

Another game to waste your time!
Posted 14 years agoI wanted to know just how difficult the idea of the phone game in my last story was - matching pairs using a mixed-up phone keypad (or an approximation of it through a keyboard). So here's another Flash demonstration - I've given it the Industrial Zone branding even though it wasn't an IZ game, just because I already had the graphics lying around.
