Yiffstar and IZ5
General | Posted 18 years agoI just realized that I never mentioned that I've set up an account on Yiffstar - http://orcas.yiffstar.com/index.yiff?action=authorsearch&authorsearch=Iron-K - and I've started putting a couple of fairly recent stories on it. It's nice that there's a community that's more focused on writing, but while I'm getting a decent number of pageviews per story, not a whole lot of people are actually commenting or reacting to them at all. However, I know all this is something of a niche fetish, and it's nice to have any feedback at all.
I've just got the fourth round and final of IZ5 to finish now, and I would guess that it's coming up to halfway done (with one game fully written and most of the others pretty well along). But here's the thing - the complete story is now sitting at about 53,000 words, and I think that it'll break 60,000 by the time I've finished - just about double the length of the old ones.
Even though this means that my attempt to eliminate obvious "filler" games in this new series has worked, that's a clearly insane amount, and I'm going to have to find a way to cut my wordiness down a little, or a lot, if I'm ever going to have a hope of finishing another.

More writing on the way...
General | Posted 18 years agoHaven’t done one of these progress updates for a while…
I’ve somehow managed to become far too busy recently, with three writing projects as well as everything else going on in life. So things have been going slowly, and I need to concentrate on one thing at a time if I’m ever going to finish any of them. What I’m working on just now:
Industrial Zone 5 – Parts 3 and 4 of this story need to be finished, though they’ve both got some material that I really like in them already. I just need to work out a few new games and their respective forfeits – in the previous “season” I had some games that were obviously ‘filler’ as they were simple and easy to write, and I’m aiming to have absolutely none of those in the new style, so it may take a little longer. I think that it might be working, as altogether (from all four parts) I now have just under 40,000 words, and it’s looking like it might even break 50,000 before it’s finished. I must be mad.
Gwen scene – This is the scene I mentioned in the last journal that I thought up in my sleep. Out of all my characters, Gwen feels pretty special – maybe because she was my first main character, and also because she’s one of the few of my characters to actually have a slime fetish… This will be my first adult-rated scene, so it’ll be different from what I usually write about. At the moment it’s named “Gwen’s First Time” in the file, but I really don’t want to call it that.
Industrial Zone 6 – In another demonstration of my plan to “stop writing IZ stories” not really going that well, I’ve already begun plans for a sixth episode (or the second show of the third series). What started this one off is that I finally got up the courage to message a certain well-known artist asking if I could use one of his characters in the new middle game (the one that Ginger and Anise were victims to in IZ5). But he had no problem with it at all, and as a result I’ve got quite a special guest lined up for this episode. I’m going to enjoy this. =)

Preoccupation
General | Posted 18 years agoDamn it. Since last night I've had a sex scene with Gwen stuck in my head and I know it isn't going to go away unless I write it.
Progress - digest
General | Posted 18 years agoIf you got a journal labelled "Pr" from me on your updates page, sorry - I was too enthusiastic with the Enter key. I know I haven't been in contact with anyone in ages, so to sum up:
1. IZ5 will happen. I know I said IZ4 was the last in the series and I'd do something else, but I don't think anyone believed that, least of all myself.
2. Having said that, after writing four episodes with the same setting and games, it's going to be a bit different. Those differences roughly line up with what Alex said was going to happen in the interview page I uploaded last month - I've reworked the set and most of the games so that the whole thing hopefully makes a bit more sense. I just have to work out why on earth according to the plot that gathering points allows more time in the 'final' room, as I sort of skipped over that originally.
3. It's going to feature another guest character like IZ3 did - this time it's a character from someone on the WamAnimeFunland Yahoo group who answered the invitation at the end of IZ4.
4. Because writing these things is always a mammoth task, I'll be uploading it in episodes as they're finished rather than as one file. This means that each part will be reasonably digestible (say, ten thousand words or so) and as long as I learn to write in sequence rather than jumping all over the place and stitching things together as I usually do, it'll reduce the wait until people see some of it. The first of these parts is about three quarters of the way done, with bits and pieces from around the full story complete too.
Hopefully you'll be able to see some of it soon!

The Hotseat
General | Posted 18 years agoI was going to say that this is for the WAM fans, but if you're watching me, chances are you're one anyway... after complaining about the American method of sliming people after the KCA, I'd like to present a classic British way - the Hotseat.

That was a fairly typical 'gunge the teacher' section from a magazine show called Hangar 17, but what set it out is the tank itself - it's absolutely vicious, spraying from all sides instead of just from above, and with a massive tip-tank at the end just to finish things off. Naturally it was a major influence on the game with the same name in Industrial Zone, though that worked slightly differently because I couldn't remember the details of it when I first wrote it. It's also got exactly the right grimy, foreboding look that I would imagine the IZ set to have.
Of course, there are a couple of drawbacks - the first is the weird demented music that they use instead of the traditional siren noise, which doesn't fit with the appearance of it at all. And the second is something you'll have already noticed - it's that the victims of this thing were almost exclusively approaching-middle-aged men rather than the young and gorgeous furry girls that I'm used to writing with. Which is a bit of a contrast.
But if we could do this to teachers like Max Blackrabbit's, that would be different entirely...

Profound statement after watching KCA
