so, it turned out that the step-up-converter was drawing way to much current due to the broken fan (way over 2 amp @ 5V), which is way more than the arduino Mega could reasonably supply. Tinkering with the electronics a bit and now the servoes are working. Next item: Padding for the jaws, adding tubes for the bowden cables and figure out a way to get the animatronics working.

so, the salvaged fan turned out to be as dead as a doorknop and the servos need to be taken apart and thoroughly greased. which means I have to tear down the electronics.

That day went over splendidly. 3000 people in the ralley and I was one of them (suited of course, well partial but still).
I avoided keeling over from heatstroke twice (I couldn't resist hitting the dancefloor), and another Furry from the area. All together a fantastic day.
