I Can't Believe It
General | Posted 11 years agoYesterday, after returning to work in an industrial park from lunch, I noticed a small whitish thing wandering around in a field, looking through my rear view mirror.
I got out to see and because it was a little way off, I followed it. It walked to the road and across the road to the factory over there. It was a kitten. I followed it around and tried to get close to it. It still had blue eyes.
Then he headed across the road and stopped. A car came along and luckily she saw the kitten on the road and me waving franticly and stopped. She left her car in the middle of the road (dead end road), got out and tried to help me catch the constantly meowing kitten. After a while, she left, saying that she would call the SPCA to come & get it.
I tried for a little while longer to catch him but to no avail, so I went back to my office and proceeded to call the SPCA as well as Animal Control to try to get help catching this baby. No-one would come out! I can’t believe it!
I then called my daughter and asked her if she would take the bus to help me. I took a little more than an hour for her to get there. She brought a small carrier and a can of tuna and a can opener. Then we went out to find the kitten. All we had to do is keep on meowing and we found him in the back of a business that sold used windows & doors. My daughter, the cat whisperer meowed (in her higher voice than mine) in the direction of the kitten. As she meowed, the kitten came closer and when she moved, the kitten would retreat. She had me open the can of tuna and she placed it in front of her, backed off a bit and started to meow again. Once the kitten smelled the tuna, he headed straight towards it and just dove into it. From there, my daughter could catch him and put him and the tuna into the carrier.
We combed him off and on all night, dropping the gunge and a few flees into a jar of apple cider vinegar, water and dish soap & gave him a bit of watered down milk. He came through the night wonderfully, even used the kitty litter a few times. He will be visiting the vet this morning to get checked out. He has a bump of what seems to be a scab on his forehead.
It really ticks me off that places that are supposed to rescue animals in distress don’t.
Something they should look into is an occasional free spade clinic so people wouldn’t find the need to drop off animals or kill them themselves.

I just can't remember
General | Posted 11 years agoI just can’t remember
I made this Halloween costume a number of years ago out of paper mache and wire.
It was a very large yellow bird from a video game.
It was very funny watching the bird race around in the game.
My daughter’s top half was another character that was riding (the bottom half) Chocobo.
Her legs were the bird’s.
I attached a harness type apparatus that would hold up the bird.
The top half of her was wearing brown clothes and a tall floppy brown hat.
Can anyone tell me what the name of the rider?
When my daughter was wearing the costume, she realized Chocobo was way too heavy to wear all night, so she just stepped out of the bird and continued around as the character that was riding him. After Halloween she wouldn’t let me get rid of the bird (and it was very large). A friend suggested we mount the head. The body was put out to the garbage – I wish I had gotten a picture of it sitting out at the road. Anyhow, we carefully mounted the head and it looks pretty good hanging from the wall in the games room.
I also, just found the paper mache "Miss Mew" head I made some years ago for another Halloween costume.
I have a photos of them in my camera but my card reader quit so I have to find another way to transfer them to my computer.
I will post them soon.

The Challange
General | Posted 11 years agoI have been working on a commission as well as making molds and trying out new products on the side.
Everything was going pretty smoothly when my daughter came to me with a challenge.
She wants me to make her a dragon head out of foam.
She has shown me the design she wants and it looks pretty straight forward.
There is, however, a twist.
She wants to have the mouth open a bit and use that opening to look out of instead of through the eyes.
She also wants to be able to open the mouth wider - using her own jaw.
So, the only mode of vision is through the mouth of the dragon and the mouth has to be movable to open wider.
I have been doing a lot of research for this one.

Surprise when you get home
General | Posted 11 years agoMy daughter and I just got home last night from a long trip for an extended weekend for a wedding.
We arrived to find cats weren't fed and were getting into everything because they were hungry.
My boyfriend was supposed to feed them while we were away.
His truck was in the driveway but he was no-where to be found.
We figured he had left the truck for us & went into afternoon shift and would be calling later for a ride.
9 ish, he called to tell us he was in the hospital and that he had been there (all alone) since Saturday morning.
That must have been extremely scarey to go through all by yourself.
Last night he only told us he had water in his lungs and that he was ok now.
Today, when we went to visit him, we found out that he had experienced a heart attack also.
He is in intensive care, being constantly monitored and tested.
He seems to be ok but there is still some water collecting and being removed with drugs and he sounds raspy.
At least they have taken the tube out that was draining him.
He did get up and go to the visiting room with us for about an hour.
We returned to his room when he said he was getting quite warm.
Tomorrow, he will have an electrocardiogram if he can lie flat without choking.
He tells us very little.
I don't know if he just doesn't want us to worry or he doesn't know himself.
Has anyone been through this that can tell us what signs tell us he is on the mends?
This is kind of scarey even though he is trying very hard to minimize it for our benefit
Update - After almost a week, and having a stent inserted into an artery, today they set him free.
He is home.
Wow, a lot of medications

Samari Hoodie
General | Posted 11 years agoI just finished it.
I really tried to have it finished so my daughter could wear it in the artist alley of the Pittsburg Pensylvania Convention ( Anthrocon) this weekend but she had to leave Wednesday and is there now.
There were a lot of details and a lot of hand sewing - snaps & edges.
I really like the way it turned out.
It is a regular hoodie with armour on it.
All of the armour is removable.
What should I make now?
Any ideas?

Chris is blocked again - I hate making "the decision"
General | Posted 11 years agoChris had a really hard time last night.
From blood in the urine to nothing comming out at all.
He was and is really poor.
My daughter is at a con in Los Vegas and I was up all night sitting with him.
The vet is just opening so I am taking Chris back in.
I hope not too much dammage is done.
He's gone.
The vet said Chris would have to go to a hospital and see a specialist and have a bunch of tests, have another operation and more and stay at the hospital for a bunch of days.
The amount of money it would have cost was astronimical.
I figured, with the post surgery pain meds OD, the trauma of the week, and with all the body spasms and pain he went through last night, maybe that was enough.
I had him put to sleep.
I brought the body of our dear dear cat home to put to rest with some of our previous pets in our little graveyard in the back yard.
You won't hurt any more Chris and you will be with some other fabulous pets of ours.

General | Posted 11 years agoMy cat is slowly recovering.
It has been and still is a roller-coaster.
Times we have to check that he is eating and times to see if he is breathing and times he climbs into the bath tub.
Yesterday he tried to jump up onto the counter and fell - no injuries.
I hate when he just lys there for so long - cool and very shallow breathing
I have never seen it before.
But today he ate a bit of solids, moist cat food, on his own (along with the feeding with a syringe)
I stopped at the vet to fill him in and got some crystal disolving canned cat food (we were sent home with dry the last visit)
He is drinking lots of water and lots is comming out the other end.
Bit of blood from time to time.
Oh, and he even groomed himself a wee bit.
Oh, and actually peed in the litter once.
From what I am hearing we have to wait quite a while for him to recover. His heart beat is good.
I have so many towels that are going in and out of the wash - I like to put one over him because his temp seems cool - but he keeps on getting up and walking a couple steps to be rid of the towel.
We have been doing shifts of staying up with him - my turn.
My daughter is heading to a convention in Los Vegas tomorrow so we both are hoping he is stable by the time she leaves, but she will be checking in very often.
oh, I just posted my first Toonie - check it out

Chris is such a sweet cat
General | Posted 11 years agoMy cat is dying.
My daughter and I have been up all night sitting with him.
He had a blocked urinary tract.
We took him in to get it unblocked.
We think he had a reaction to the extremely strong pain meds they sent us home with.
He was drinking and peeing but he was sooo stoned since Sunday.
The weird thing was he kept wanting to get up and walk.
He would walk part way down the hall and lay down.
Through the night, he kept getting up and getting off the bed.
I know it isn't because of another blockage and the symptomes would have been more extreme and faster if it was from back up or escapage into the abdomin.
He has been fighting all night. We even started thinking he was going to pull through - but.
Now he is laying in one spot and occasionally tries to lift his head.
I told the vet last night and this morning discussed the drug with him so he knows some cats can't handle it.
The drug is Buprenorphine - much stronger than Morphine.
We are both on and off tears all night.
He keeps trying to pick up his head.
Damn, he just got up and walked past me (wobbly) into the kitchen and layed down.
We keep thinking he is gone or at the edge and - he just got up and walked 2 feet and layed down again.
See why we think it is from the drugs.
We just don't know what to think.
When I talked to the vet he was on death's bed - at quarter to nine this morning.
I will let you know how it goes.

General | Posted 11 years agoBlack Cat Fur Suit
General | Posted 11 years agoI have completed my second Fur Suit.
It is a black cat with green eyes.
The head & paws are lined & it comes with a balaclava.
Fur Suit Head with:
• Resin mask,
• Machine & hand sewn fur,
• Lined,
• Resin nose,
• Hand molded & painted teeth & tongue,
• Resin eyes,
• Hand painted fur,
• Hidden zipper in back
• Moving Jaw
• Head size 22-25 inches
• Ventilation through mouth and nose.
It has a long soft stuffed tail & padded paws with sculpy claws.
My hands are 7 ½” around the widest part and 7 ½” from my palm to my finger tip.
They will fit on hands a little larger than mine.
There is a jewel attached to her head.
I also made a green peasant outfit to go with it that can be purchased also.
I am not happy with the Left eye. I tried to fix it and it looks much better but I am still not happy with it.
Also, the vision through the tear ducts is limited.

Toony?
General | Posted 12 years agoI need some help from some friends to decide what Toony character to make.
I am constructing two Fur Suit heads.
They will be sold here or on the auction.
I am making my second poured resin head, a cat head that is just about to be furred.
Also, I am making a Toony character.
I am ready to apply the foam to the toony head.
The only thing is, I don’t know what kind of character to do.
Do I want a narrow snout or a rounder snout and head?
I would maybe like to try antlers.
I am asking you to help me pick which character.
What kind of character should I make?

Now that I have my Terms of Service & the FAQ'a for the hoodie set up, I am ready to take on commissions.
To request a commission, first read the Terms of Service and the FAQ's, then send me a "note".
I am going to start with 3 commissions.
I am going to pick by a "first come - first serve" basis because I want to get started right away.
I am really going to enjoy creating for you!
New Experiences
General | Posted 12 years agoAfter years of seeing my daughter have great times online in comunities, I have decided to join up, and see what it is all about.
While I may not have the same kind of artistic skills as her, I feel confident in my sewing and creative craft abilities.
I am very new to this, so please bear with my clumbisness and please treat me well! <3

How long does it take to make a costume?
Once your commission is accepted, it takes me 1-3 weeks to create the hoodie. This can vary depending on how many projects I am working on at the same time.
What kind of materials do you use?
I am using Sweatsuit Jersey for the hoodie.
What are your prices?
The Hoodie currently available is $200

What sizes do you make?
Since these are handmade from scratch, I can make any size within reason.
Do you make other designs?
I only have this design so far.
I am looking into more designs though. I can discuss it with you.
Once construction has started, changes are limited to taking in, and that can only be done to an extent.
So please make sure your info is as accurate as possible.
Construction takes 1-3 weeks, however please be patient with me as things can pile up quickly.
How do I let you know I am placing an order?
I will announce a Commission Opening Day in my journal.
On the day I open the order, send a note on the site with the subject “Kitten Mittens” starting it. Include your email address in it. If you are picked, I will send you an email & a link to a Contract.
How does Commission Opening Day work?
I will give priority to those serious commissioners that have been in contact with me for a length of time, to be fair.
Please make you have asked your questions answered before you apply for a commission. All of my efforts on that day will be focused on getting off to a productive start with my commissioners.
Because I want to be professional with my relationships with my commissioners, I will rather not enter into a commission with someone who has presented themselves in a demanding, pushy or otherwise rude manner.
How will I know if I am picked?
I will send you an email & a link to a Form, with areas to fill in your info.
Also, I request 50% down payment through Pay Pal. I will tell you where.
I will request your mailing address.
Please keep in mind that if you don’t have the 50% deposit, it is only fair for me to move to the next commissioner.
What type of payment do you accept?
At this time, I am only accepting Pay Pal.
Are there payment plans available?
I believe that paying half up front and half on completion is fair.
Any less leads to complications should either party wish to cancel the contract.
