A little soon, but... Thanksgiving is coming :o
General | Posted 12 years agoSoooo, in a fit of boredom and puns about yams flurrying through my head, I had an idea: A post about Thanksgiving! I know not everyone is from the U.S. but I was curious about some of people's favorite things about this time of year.
I might as well mention a few of mine to start with. <^_^>
In general, I kind of like the weather :o The cooler, wetter days aren't bad. I live in the Pacific Northwest of the U.S. so... Temperate rain forest. I'm used to rain. Constantly. I don't mind it. I like it :3 And often our first snow is in November, and I enjoy snow :3 I could do with some more daylight, though... I do know that not everyone is in the northern hemisphere either, so it's springtime for you folks.
Food! Seasonal foods start popping up around... well, everywhere you look about this time of the year, but I love the big meals with family for the holidays. Turkey sounds more appetizing than normal, and there are all those pies and desserts and cheesecake, which is like a 7th food group, and different cuisines from a variety of cultures. From my Norwegian heritage, there's a simple, but apparently not-so-fun-to-make thing called "lefse" that is absolutely delicious. What is it? Well, it's shaped a bit like a tortilla, but it's kind of a flat potato bread. Don't knock it until you try it... Because then your mouth will be so full of it you won't be able to complain. A bit of a comparison could be potato bread (big shocker) or buns. Closest thing to the actual thing I've tried are potato hot dog buns with some butter on them. Anyway, yum. Sweet potatoes, squash, more turkey than you can reasonably eat and will likely eat anyway and gain several pants sizes just because it's Thanksgiving, stuffing, potatoes and gravy, my mom's fruit salad, and probably about 50 other dishes I can't remember... And then we do it again a few more times for Christmas and stuff. And don't forget cookies. There will be more cookies about than you'll know what to do with.
I love the family get-togethers and seeing people I haven't seen in a while, and, well... some of the music. The decorations are fun, some tacky, some so horrible you facepalm hard enough to leave a red handprint, then laugh yourself into a fit of cramps, and some just gorgeous ones. Cards can be fun, too. :3 The holidays are kind of a smear of busybusy and yay, and they can also be rather stressful. But be nice! Even if you have a rough day, or traffic is bad, smile, be sweet, and if someone's a jerk, shrug it off and be nice anyway just to spite the sucker and go on with your day anyway. Being nice is more likely to calm them down and make them be nice right back to you, plus it can show that you're better than them for keeping cool. >:3
I'm not sure where I'm going with this whole thing, really, I'm kind of tired and all over the place. X3
I guess what I was kind of going for is spreading some smiles and excitement about the changing seasons and stuff, and wondering, wherever you may be or be from, whatever you celebrate or don't, what do you like about this time of year? What sort of weather, foods, events, music, and all that jazz makes you happy and gets you excited? What sort of traditions do you have? How many generations has that fruitcake been passed down and used to keep the tree level so it doesn't fall over on the presents? How many of you have a mysterious craving for potatoes? I know there are things to complain about, but let's hear some of the good things and brighten our moods a bit. :3

What the fox says
General | Posted 12 years agoYes, I have seen that video as well... And after a night of watching too much Weird Al, this happened.
https://t.co/TYMcntiQfN
In case someone's out of the loop: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jofNR_WkoCE "What does the fox say" is a video that has exploded on youtube for some reason. I have no idea why. :P It simply has.
So, what does the fox say? Well, it's probably some sort of smart ass comment about people wondering what the fox says.

General | Posted 12 years agoI added some shapes and a new physics package to my SecondLife marketplace store. Check them out if you feel like it. I still have other things I haven't put up yet, but... Lazy fennec is lazy.<¬.¬>

Windows has a faulty update, just a warning (kind of old)
General | Posted 12 years agoI tweeted about this a while back, but it seems that someone I follow on FA got hosed when Windows blew up on them... https://twitter.com/Yanoi_Lacroix/s.....96767626989568
An update a while back doesn't play very nice with a few things, ends up sending you spiraling into endless reboots and BSODs. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2839011 Scroll on down to resolution. If you haven't removed the update yet, DO IT. Otherwise THIS COULD BE YOU -> http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/4602408/

Quit my job...
General | Posted 12 years agoI quit my job... Tuesday April 16 was my final day. There were many reasons for it, but I'll sum it up as "It was time to move on."
It was done smoothly and cleanly, and they did tell me I'm welcome back if need be. No need to burn bridges or anything.
As for what I'll do afterward... NOT WORK :B
I plan on looking into some art classes at the local community college, since I used to draw a lot in the past, and I'd like to be able to do that again, and increase my skill and knowledge base. Perhaps some language classes... I'm already somewhat fluent in Spanish, though not particularly confident in myself when speaking to strangers in it. :P But that's another matter... Also, I've been interested in Japanese and other languages, but it might be a bit much to take classes for every language they offer >.> Things are just kind of up in the air at the moment.

I have a Second Life store now. :D
General | Posted 13 years agoSo, I should do one of these once in a while <O.o> Okies, first off, I've been making shapes and stuff in SL for a while now, and finally got an online store set up, with some stuff for sale in there. (yay)
My store: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/stores/121430
I'm actually rather proud of the scripted objects I have in there, particularly the v3 breath emitter. I hadn't done any programming or anything in a long time, plus it was a new programming language, so it was a bit of a learning curve, to say the least. :P Anyhow, check it out and stuff :3
Second of all: Derp. That is all. Oh, and BADGERS http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xF2rvRH_ZA

Spring is here, and I gain another year...
General | Posted 13 years agoYup, it's time for spring, and it's also MY BIRTHDAY OMG
Doesn't feel particularly special, but wheee~ Anyway, I'm turning 28 <x.x>
Aside from that, I had an idea to challenge people creatively... DO AN ART! Make something, a picture, a story, a sculpture, clothing, a meal, SOMETHING that involves the new season, spring for the northerners, fall for those in the southern hemisphere... Have fun with it :D Maybe it'll trigger some creativity that'll give you some GO JUICE to get other things done, too. :3

ZOMG MEME! All about me
General | Posted 14 years agoI spotted one of these in Amethistia's journals and decided it could be fun :3 --> http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/3195456/
✰Name: Ivy Trellis (le gasp!)
✰Nicknames: People have started calling me by my characters' names and nicknames. x3 I've been called things such as Bubblegum, Cinnamon, Licorice, Bubbles, Cinna, KJ, Yan-yan (*shudder*) and others. :P But really, Ivy is fine. :3
✰Zodiac Sign: Pisces
✰Eye Color: RL: Blue, Fursona: Varies, but people have come to know me as that little pink sweetie, Bubblegum, so kind of a glowing, reddish magenta color. Several of my other characters have the same actually. :3
✰Hair color: RL: Strawberry blond <3 Fursona: going by the above example, PINK :D
✰Height: 5'10" or 5'11" RL, online, varies greatly, but usually fairly short.
✰Weight: Haven't checked recently... Probably around 130 pounds? Online, well... Certainly not much, that's for sure XD I mean, really, how much do pixels weigh?
✰Someone you look like: depends on how I dress, but I've been compared to many people. Mainly, I just look like me. :3
✰Right or Left Handed: Right mainly, but I'm ambidextrous. :3
✰Right or Left Footed: neither, I'm such a klutz I've sprained an ankle while tripping over my own feet and broken a finger shutting it in a door. :P
✰Sexual Orientation: Online, bi, mostly women. RL, only women.
✰Piercings/Tattoos: none
✰How many siblings: none
✰Pets: two west highlant white terriers, Paddington and Mindy. Online... *wicked giggle* Not telling >:3
✰Could you make a dollar in change right now? Probably more like $20 in change, I've got mountains of coins in my room because I don't bother to change them in for bills, and I don't carry them around with me, so they just... keep... adding up... <@.@>
FAVORITE…
✰Kind of pants: UNDERPANTS because everyone else says so... Actually, I wear jeans most of the time. And does it make me lame for liking the ones from COSTCO a lot? XD
✰Number: The temptation is great... Must resist... *bites lip and whines* "S... SIXTY-NINE!!!!!" *gets decked*
✰Color: Blue. No, pink! Aaaaahhh!!!!! Really, I'm so indecisive. I like... Um... MAROON! :D
✰Animal: FENNECS :D And I like many, many others <3
✰Drink: I dunno if I have a favorite... I like many kinds of Mountain Dew, and Wild Cherry Pepsi is good. It also annoys me that they changed the name to MTN Dew. I mean, REALLY, come on people...
✰Sports: I'm not a big sports fan, but I kind of like soccer, and I've kind of lost interest in basketball, but rally racing still entertains me a good deal. :3
✰Juice: *naughty thoughts* Um... Teehee... Well, naughty thoughts aside, there is this sort of orange-cherry-mango stuff I really like <3 and other similar unusual and delicious mixes, like orange-strawberry-banana... Things that are sweet and tart at the same time. That's yummy. :3
✰Cartoon Character: Oh, that's so hard to decide... Not a clue at all, but I like many of them. :P
✰Scent: There are many I like, and many I despise. I REALLY hate strong perfumes and colognes that make my eyes and nose and throat burn, when I can smell the people from like 50 feet away and the scent just lingers and it's horrible and it makes me want jump out a window... Or maybe staple a "Flammable Vapors" warning sign to their ass. :P Pro tip: deoderant is enough. :P
✰Time of the Day: I'm kind of fond of mornings, and night... But my favorite time is when I'm around my friends. And I'm not saying that to kiss up or anything, I get super bored if I'm just sitting here all alone and find myself doing weird stuff like typing "fart" into a search bar just to see if I can find something to make me giggle. :P

Idle curiosity...
General | Posted 14 years agoOkay, I was kinda wondering what people would like to see in my stories. So, if something strikes your fancy, or you want to read about a certain species or character, or whatever, go ahead and comment here. Wanna see more magic? Say so. Less? Love to hear about it. I just kinda wonder what people want and like. Responding doesn't necessarily guarantee I'll do it, but you may see something you like as a result. Also, if you guys like my stories, or parts of them, or characters, or have a random comment about the stories, go ahead and comment on them. I feel like no one's reading them, until I say something like "Hey, you know Licorice?" and someone goes "YEAH!!!" x3 Blargh, anyhow, say stuff. <O.o>
Returning to normalcy
General | Posted 14 years agoI've been meaning to post something for a while, but never really got around to it. :P
Dad's in good health, life is moving on at a normal state, and other than minor ripples, everything is about... average. :P
I went on a trip to Colorado, kind of expecting WW3 and drama explosions, but it went better than could be expected, and I even got to meet a friend from online. Unfortunately, I only got to meet one of my online friends. The rest were out of town or busy. :P I hope to go back sometime, possibly as a road trip. :3
Once I settled back into my groove, I got back into gaming and RP, both forum and SL/IRC based.
Oh! My cousin got a kitten! He's adorable and has beautiful fur. :3 I think he's going to grow up to be an enormous cat, though. He already seems big for a kitten that age. He's like... half-Bombay, half... I dunno, something fluffy. :P Maybe tabby or Maine coon. <x.x> He's got a beautiful pattern of stripes on his face.
So, that was my ADD-powered journal; I'm off to go chase shiny things now. <O.o>

Winding down <@_@>
General | Posted 14 years agoDad's out of the hospital, my grandma's funeral is done, and now I'm just catching up with the chaos. I just hope that I'm done with all the crazy stuff for a good, long time. XP
Dad's home now :)
General | Posted 14 years agoDad has been released from the hospital, and is doing much better. They've got him on some medication (antibiotics) to make sure the infection has been truly kicked, and we're all relieved about the matter. XP
That's a huge bit of stress to have lifted. But next come the viewing for my grandmother, and then the funeral after that. Early mornings, dressing fancy, and a chance for my makeup to run. <T_T> Okay, I don't plan on wearing any makeup, but I had to make a silly and use the sad face. It's just kind of the way I am.

Dad's in the hospital
General | Posted 14 years agoWell, as you know if you read my previous journal, I found out my grandmother died sometime recently on Friday. On Saturday, my dad and I were rather sick, so I figured it might have been some bug going around. Sunday came around, and my dad had a high fever and his heart rate was elevated and erratic. My mom took him to the hospital Sunday evening, and the doctors said he'd had a bladder infection that had moved to his bloodstream. If my mom hadn't taken him in, he would have died. The doctor told my dad in the morning that most people don't make it 24 hours with it. But they've since taking my dad off the IV antibiotics and moved to an oral one, so I take this as a good sign.
My question: Why does crazy crap like this have to happen in bunches? Some of you I'm sure remember how my mom had TWO emergency surgeries within a month last summer.
So I'm staying home from work this week, because I'm stressed out and exhausted, due to not being able to sleep, and my mind's been all over the place. <x.x>

Death in the family
General | Posted 14 years agoMy grandmother passed away sometime last week. We think she had a stroke just before bed or something, so she didn't suffer or anything, but I'm still rather sad about it. I'm coping well enough, I suppose, but it's going to be weird for a while as we're dealing with all the stuff that goes with that. Sad face.
