Midwest Furfest 2016 - Fursuit Menagerie & Music Video
General | Posted 9 years agoA dump of what I recorded at the Fursuit Menagerie. It includes their announcement/description of what this is, since it replaces the Fursuit Parade this year:

Plus the more important one, a music video! Song is Perfect Day by Hoku - which is probably best recognized as from the movie Legally Blonde. Which I watched the day after the con.

Midwest Furfest 2016 - Quick video
General | Posted 9 years agoI managed over 600 pictures and 120 video clips, so I have a good amount to sort through. I'm not sure about putting up an album (will at least do a collage), but I am planning on a Fursuit Menagerie video and a general con fursuiters video.
In the meantime, this is a follow-up from last year's music video:

Midwest Furfest 2015 - Fursuit Parade
General | Posted 10 years agoLast year, a phone glitch caused the video to not be saved, so this year I recorded a couple different segments and strung them back together, just to ensure that if it happened again I at least got some of the parade. These blips are somewhere around 0:13:50, 0:33:50, and shortly before the end of the video.
Lucky for me, it did not happen during the parade. It did happen latter that night and the following day with random miscellaneous video I got around the con, though, so that was close.
Stringing them back together went slightly over 4 GB, which with the program I used caused it to split the last 18 seconds into a second file. I'll see if I can recombine it later, but in the meantime the sign that marks end of the parade is still visible at the far edge of the screen when this version ends:

Midwest Furfest 2013 - Fursuit Parade
General | Posted 12 years agoEnded up in a slightly different place this year - you can actually see my usual seat in the shot. Unfortunately, I also ended up standing, so it's a little shakier than usual, and I got stuck next to someone who couldn't help keeping a running commentary. She wasn't actually talking to anyone, either...

"Yvonne was a furry" - Continuum 1x08
General | Posted 12 years agoTwo in the foreground:
Cop: "Were they friends, enemies, uh, possibly seeing each other?"
Employee: "No, I doubt it. Mark was into younger chicks and Yvonne was a furry." (she grins at "furry")
Two in the background:
(Person from the future looks confused)
Cop's co-worker (IT person): "Liked to dress up as animals."
Person from the future: "Charming..."

That... What?
General | Posted 13 years agoWell, then.
Cracked.com has clued me in to a fox fact I had not known before: They hunt best (and most often) at 20 degrees off of magnetic north, usually towards the north-east.
And the difference is remarkable:
Northeast: 73% success,
Southwest: 60% success,
Any other direction: 18% success.
My desk and chair face northeast, at about 20-25 degrees off of magnetic north. My chair closer to 20, desk closer to 25, 'cause I tend to sit sideways.
Coincidence, I swear!

Midwest Furfest 2012 - Misc
General | Posted 13 years agoSo I just made a Photobucket for the pictures I took this year:
http://s1293.photobucket.com/albums.....urfest%202012/
So yeah, this year was quite interesting. Aside from going with
the-netwayman and
gamblinaria like last year, I also met a friend on Saturday that I had not spoken to in 6 years, back when we were both in highschool:
roaring-flame-cat
Also bought the Nordguard card game while there ( http://www.nordguard.com/about/cardgame/ ), played it several times with different groups of people and have yet to win - we either end up running out of time when only a day or two from the destintion, or the Locations/Challenges+Events have accidentally created an impassable wall across half the map we have to try to go around...

Midwest Furfest 2012 - Fursuit Parade
General | Posted 13 years agoSitting in the same location as last year. Lots more in the parade this time!

Again, I have pictures - but I don't really want to inundate this gallery with them. Anyone know a good site for uploading pictures and grouping them into albums?

Midwest FurFest 2010
General | Posted 15 years agoSo I just returned, and it was fun.
Some pictures to come later. Probably in collage form so it's easier for me.
I got the entire fursuit parade on video, minus one or two at the beginning (which you can see in the background a few minutes in when they leave the room). Unfortunately, it is 16 minutes 22 seconds long - apparently too big for Youtube.
I'll try and upload it directly, later, but if it doesn't work I'll edit out some points where there were gaps, then try again. I'll make a second journal once it's up.

Hmhm... Integrating clothes...
General | Posted 15 years agoSo, I rarely ever post blogs, journals, anything of that sort anywhere. Just never feel like it.
But I just ran across this after seeing a kotatsu in the Kekkaishi manga, and had to share. I've known about the kotatsu for a while now, but never thought of this. From wiki:
The kotatsu was designed for people wearing traditional Japanese style clothes, where the heat would enter through the bottom of the robes and exit around the neck, thus heating the entire body.
So now I'm thinking about how clothes can integrate into general lives...
Furs, having fur, would have less a need for clothes in terms of keeping the body warm. This I've understood for a long time, as have most other artists I see (Or they just like drawing the body... hehe). But, if clothes aren't needed to keep the body warm, what other reason is there?
Modesty? Doesn't make sense as an initial step, as clothes are artificial.
Protection? Maybe, but how often are there fights that need armour in your world? (Next to none in mine)
So now I'm wondering what other reasons there could be. Like pockets. But also if they can be integrated into their culture more closely, like the kotatsu and kimono...
