Posted 12 years agoThis is not an emergency, but it is something that is needed, let me explain.
My uncle suffered from a serious spinal injury in 2007 that has left him with a loss of use in his left side. He took therapy for a while, but was eventually diagnosed with progressive MS.
He lost his job, things have gotten worse, he's been treated with the improper meds which led to an even worse condition, but he hasn't given up on life. He still takes therapy and tries his best every day all the while managing to keep a positive attitude.

He entered into a contest for National 'Mobility Awareness Month'. They hold an annual contest where anyone can vote for a winner, and I personally think that he deserves it.
The top 5% are then entered in to a pool for the prize, which is a vehicle equipped for people with mobility issues.
It only takes a moment to vote, and anybody can do it, head down here for more info:

Posted 12 years agoWell, after two days of blood, sweat and tears (mostly supported by not having the right tools) I have finally fixed my car.
What happened:
The rear caliper has had issues for several years, but it finally failed on me in the parking lot the other day. There was a 'klunk' and then the brake pads fell out right then and there. The cylinder was the only thing left pushing against the brake disc, causing the system to depressurize completely. All was good though.
What we did:
So, we ran down and got a replacement caliper and a new brake disc. The grand total was only about $70 in the end! (after the fee for returning the brake cylinder which was an $80 refund) and about $20 for a set of new pads.
It took two days to get apart, and all of about 40 minutes to get back together. Everything was so rusted on. I'd have killed for a pair of vice grips. The tool we needed most, and the one we didn't have. Needless to say it took a looooot of extra wrestling to get it all loose, but it eventually all came apart.
It went back together like clockwork!
Next on the list:
Replacing the front wheel bearing ($90 a pop)
Replacing the front struts ($180 a pair)
Misc. Electronic work. (who knows.)

Posted 13 years agoAs I bid my friends a fond farewell at the train station, I watch them go and breathe a sigh already missing them. On my way back down the station steps, something catches my eye. I almost walk right past it, but my curiosity gets the better of me.
There, standing on the stone ledge of the stairway, glistening in the dim light of the lamps from the platform above, was an unopened can of Full Throttle Blue Demon. I stare at it for several moments, my mind recalling the fresh, crisp, tasty agave goodness that the contents of the can would contain. My favorite drink, sitting, almost presented to me on a pedestal.
After looking around several times, I decide to err on the side of caution and carefully inspect the can before touching it. I look around the sides, at the top. It seems to be in order, not too many dents, the tab isn't popped. Everything seems to be in order, so I carefully reach out and grab the can.
It was a trap!
The can was in fact empty, someone had dropped it and right at the bottom there was a crack where all the liquid had drained out.
So... so close...
