Just a quick update for everyone!
Posted 10 years agoSorry that I haven't really posted anything recently. I've been feeling really tired and burned out for a few reasons, and one story I've been working on for something has been giving me a headache (I've literally rewritten it four times so far, and it still doesn't feel right), so I've taken a few days off from the serious story writing and have been working on some notes for my "Outlaw" concept. Oh, and the concept prologue for "Slings and Arrows" which I might post here when it's done.
Oh, and an update on my writing regimen: in the past 68 days, I've written just over 178,000 words. Not bad. :)

I think this is actually a fantastic and silly idea. Why not celebrate our love of our favorite fictional characters for just a few days and not feel ashamed of it?

A brief informal survey for my readers…
Posted 10 years agoWhich stories felt like they had the better length, and which ones felt like they were too long? What's a good word count/length for sitting down to read a chapter or two at a time?
I'm gearing up to start breaking one of my longer stories into chapters/parts, and I want to figure out what's a good length for the chapters. Like, I'm not gonna make you sit down and read a 10,000 word part in one go, but is 5,000 or so words a good length for a longer multi-part story? Is 1,000 too short, or do you prefer that length?*
The reason I'm asking about words and not page length is because everyone's going to see things a little bit different. So, when I say I've written a ten page story, for example, with my settings that's ten pages at size eleven Helvetica, no extra spacing. And that's about 6,500 words. Okay, so that probably tells me that that's TOO big of a chunk of words…
Anyway, thanks for any replies you give me! I look forward to them.
PS: Also, can FA even show tabbed sentences in txt documents? My computer shows them, but I have no idea if FA can even handle the awesomeness that is
*please don't say you prefer this length because it will take me FOREVER to post this story that way

Hey there, if you're wondering why I haven't posted much in the past week or so, well, there's two reasons for that.
Reason one is, I've been involved in crew with a very taxing play, and it's been taking up a lot of my free time that I'd otherwise be spending writing. And as soon as this show ends, I'm gonna be in another fun play that I'm super looking forward to doing. :D
Reason two is, I've been spending most of my writing time editing the longest single story I've ever written, and I'm only about halfway through editing it. I've debated posting sections of it as I finish them, but I think you'd all prefer the overall improved quality of waiting until the story is done. :)
So, there's the quick update from me. I am of course still writing: I still found time to write even when I've been putting in thirteen hour days over the past week, and I haven't yet let anything get in the way of me getting out my two thousand words a day.
Thank you all for watching, favoriting, commenting, commissioning, and of course, reading my stuff! It means a lot to me. I hope everyone has a quick day!

Mad Max: Fury Road
Posted 10 years agoWas awesome.
No, seriously. This was basically a two-hour action sequence, and it never dragged, got tiring, or over-stayed its welcome. This movie is a masterpiece, with amazing actors, great writing, fantastic action, brilliant effects, a subtly-told world that doesn't need massive amounts of exposition, and a whole lot of kickass women. Seriously, there's a lot, and they're amazing. Max and Furiosa have an amazing double action act going on together, and there's actual characterization and character growth going on among the main characters. I know, it's amazing. Costuming and character design are brilliant too. Seriously, why didn't they get this director to direct the Transformers movies, those things would be amazing in his hands?
Go see Fury Road. It's not just a great action film, it's a great movie.
Also, seriously, the jamming dude was just amazing. Rock on, mah man.

Launching my Patreon! (and what's coming next…)
Posted 10 years agoMy Patreon page!
Hey, guys, remember how I said I was thinking of opening commissions? Well, I still am, and I'm already working on (and have posted!) a few commissions, but this is something in addition to commissions. I'd like to start writing more, and I'd like to turn it into a job someday. It's gonna take a lot of work, and I know that (even though I don't necessarily grok it yet), but I'm going to do this somehow, someday. This isn't necessarily a way to do that, but doing a Patreon will help me immensely in getting the breathing room I need to grow as a writer and storyteller.
WHY I AM DOING THIS:
Well, as I said, I want to be a writer. I mean, I am a writer now, but I want to get better, and I want to share more of the stories I've come up with over the years with people. This is going to help me do that, to get a little more self-sufficient and grow outwards. It's gonna help with my stress levels, and it's gonna help me work towards making some of my goals happen.
WHAT THIS DOES NOT CHANGE:
I will NOT be locking any of my stories behind a paywall. You won't have to pay for my stories, I'll still be posting them for free here and in other places. There won't be a walled garden of epic masterpieces with only a few freebies thrown to the starving masses. Yes, I will be offering download versions for supporters of a certain level, but they'll still be available to read elsewhere for free. I'll still be offering commissions in addition to this And this won't be affecting my writing speed, though since I'll be working on some longer stories it MAY affect my posting speed.
WHAT THIS DOES CHANGE:
For one, I'll be able to work on more long-term projects, like my books and some of my other ideas, and may even be able to get some of them published. I'll also be able to spend more time writing, since it'll take a little bit of the edge off of needing to work to support myself, and that means more stuff for you guys and anyone else who supports me, so everyone wins! And for those of you who hate how hard FA makes it to read/post stories, I'll be offering properly formatted downloads of my stories soon. My writing regimen of a minimum of two-thousand words a day will not change, and hopefully I'll be able to work on more projects at once, like editing one story as I'm writing another, instead of having to devote time to one or the other. I may even be able to work on my other artistic expressions again, which would be awesome.
AND FINALLY…
Even if you don't end up supporting me on Patreon, I really want to thank you all so much for the support you've all given me so far. And to those of you who DO end up supporting me, thank you again. The responses I've gotten to my stories has been a massive boost to my self-esteem and pride. It really means a lot to me that people are reading and enjoying what I write. And I want to do that more and more, as much as I possibly can. I have literally been telling stories for as long as I can remember, and I've been talking about becoming a writer since high school. This is a huge step in that direction.
Thank you for your time, and have an awesome day.

Can it please be next Monday already?

Opening commissions soon! (hopefully…)
Posted 10 years agoOkay, let's figure out a way to make this work…
I will soon be opening for three short story slots, just to test out the waters and see what works for me. If you would like a story from me, make a comment in the announcement journal. I'll send you a note and we'll use that note chain to discuss and keep track of details. We'll work out what you want, plot details and characters and stuff like that, and I'll discuss whether I'm cool or uncomfortable with your idea, and we'll figure out something both of us like. We'll also figure out a length: I'm planning to charge ten dollars per thousand words, but I won't charge you extra if I go over the agreed-upon length. Once we've agreed on everything, I'll get to work on the story for you: it should only take about two to three days to write, but I will more than likely have it done within a week. I will not finish stories in order of listing, but I will not open commissions again until all three stories are done: I have other projects that I am working on at the same time. I may note you with ideas to run past you. Once it's done, you'll pay me, and I'll post it, and I'll also send it to you both a word and text document so that you can upload it as you see fit.
So, how does all that sound, everyone?

A huge writing milestone for me
Posted 10 years agoOne month ago, I finally got myself a much-needed figurative kick in the ass, and started a writing regimen: basically, forcing myself to write something every day, no matter how hard. I had to write a certain amount of words a day before I went to bed, without fail. There's a couple of other rules to it, but they're not important right now.
What is important is that I am now a month into my regimen, I have not missed a single day of my regimen, and I have written over 78,000 words in the past month.
I haven't felt this good about myself in a very long time. I actually feel like I can call myself a practicing writer. It's awesome.
EDIT: Okay, I did the math wrong. It was just shy of 80,000 words in a one month period.

Posted 10 years agoA big shout out to my 14 new watchers, and the 128 favorites I've acquired since my last thank you journal. As thanks, you guys get to enjoy my newest just-finished short story! It's a fun little tale of a cat who makes a new friend and is invited to join a weird little book club.

As an update on my writing progress, in the past three weeks since I started my writing regimen, I have written about 45,000 words. Which means I've surpassed the total needed for NaNoWriMo. If only this was November, and I was participating. XD

Age of Ultron micro-thoughts (no spoilers) and writing updat
Posted 10 years agoFirst, Age of Ultron! Good movie, had one major complaint and a few smaller ones, but I enjoyed it. Not as big of a game changer cinematically as Avengers, which I still think is the best superhero movie ever made. This one missed that goal by just a little bit. Still really good and I really enjoyed it!
Second, writing! Yes, I've started writing again. Two weeks ago I started a writing regimen to encourage me to keep writing. Two weeks later, I have yet to break the regimen, and I just finished a rough draft of a so-far just shy of 28,000 word short story that I will be editing over the next few days in preparation for posting. And meanwhile, I'll start work on my next short story. I've got a whole bunch to go through and write out, and it's all helping me warm up towards actually doing my first full book! Woo! Writing!
