No Pinocchio? Jinxie ain't gonna be a real boy?
Posted 5 years agoJinxie's a good boy. But Jinxie is a machine. Not like biological peepsies. No tissue or blood.
Jinxie's body is made o' polymer super structure, composite bones, internal shock absorption layers, lubricants, control circuits, and a really really good power cell.
Jinxie's brain is the classic Asimov positronic structure: a three pound lump of platinum-iridium alloy with micro anti-matter pathways, supplemented by a ginormous data store!
But sometimes robot peepsies get turned into biologics, right? Ain't that ever gonna happen ta Jinxie?
Nope. *giggle* But why?
It's cuz Jinxie luvs bein' artificial. It's funsies bein' programmed, lettin' skilled peepsies do maintenance on Jinxie, bein' upgraded an' stuff. Even bein' disassembled sumtimes. :)
But there's one more super duper important thing about Jinxie's bein' made outa plastic an' metal. It's cuz Jinxie can be the huggy wuggy pally wally y'all always wanted ta have. Like the stuffy aminals y'all could hug an' hug an' never worry 'bout hurting 'em, ja?
Jinxie's like that. Cuz then y'all can gives the squeeziest hugs ya ever squeezed. Y'all can cry and shed tears an' Jinxie will absorb them. Y'all can snuggle with Jinxie when y'all feel so alone. And Jinxie's never gonna say nuthin' bad ever. Cuz Jinxie luvs ya.
Smoochie! *giggle*

Anthros in a Cpunk Setting? What gives?
Posted 5 years agoHeehee! Jinxie knows it's a little weird ta talk about this on FA of all places cuz if ya luvs furry chars, this is da place, neh?
But for all o' y'all that just luvs writing, it's a super duper topic. And if ya answers the question right, it's got the potential to attract even non furry peeps.
So Jinxie gonna put on the writer's hat. Personality program activated...
So how do furries fit in cyberpunk or any sci fi mainstream? If you look at the big award winners and the bestsellers, standard furries generally don't make the transition. Usually they have to be plausible and yet sufficiently alien like in the Chanur series.
Generic chimeras that resemble furries are not yet considered hard sci fi and non furry enthusiasts frown on them because of certain social stigmas.
But... games like FNAF show that mechanical furries at least make good horror stories. And cyberpunk has already shown it's a close cousin to horror (witness such anthologies as Eldritch Chrome). It's not much of a long jump from there into mainstream acceptance, provided you establish the artificial nature of your characters early in your story. And maybe RL robots that look like cutesy characters might go a long way towards banishing the so-called uncanny valley.
Hokay, Jinxie's back. Y'all gots opinions?

Cyberpink: The Pinkiest Radicoolest Setting Ever!
Posted 6 years agoIt's Jinxie again! Jinxie keeps poppin' up, neh?
Jinxie sumtimes gets sum questions about Jinxie's backstory and setting an' stuffs. So Jinxie thought y'all might like ta see sum setting details. So here ya go! This is Jinxie's shared universe, totally FREE and OPEN SOURCE!! So y'all can use it an mess around with it as much as ya like. :) Jinxie hopes ya luv it. <3
Starting Year: 2290 A.D.
Places:
1) Earth. Dominated by the sprawls of Boston-Atlanta Metropolitan Axis (BAMA) and Tokkaido (98% of old Japan and parts of China and Russia)
2) Jovian moons of Io, Europa, and Ganymede. Corporate-controlled worlds. Very high tech.
3) Interstellar colonies
a) Proxima Centauri: mining colony with a thin poisonous atmosphere
b) Tau Ceti E: Earth-like paradise world. Only the rich and their slaves get to live there.
c) Kepler 186F: Earth-like frontier world. Hardy colonists, gens, and AIs live in a state of uneasy peace.
Genre: Modified Cyberpunk (see "Theme" section below)
Races:
1) Humans: Mostly standard stuff here. All humans have low-level 'Net implants implanted at birth that constantly project augmented reality HUDs onto their optic nerve.
2) Robots and AIs: AGIs (artificial general intelligences) once existed but were allegedly all exterminated 30 years ago after the Asimov Decision. Robots and AIs are simply advanced versions of the learning neural nets of the 21st century. There are laws preventing the formation of AGIs (known as the Asimov Protocols).
3) Gens: Short name for Genetic Chimeras (anthros, nekojin, etc). With the passing of the Bellerophon Act of 2206, Gen production was legalized but regulated. Gens now account for about 18% of the population (slightly higher percentage in the Jovian colonies). Gens have civil rights, but there are hate groups that target them.
Political Climate: Earth and her colonies are officially led by the United Planets, a world government. But the corps are the true power. The biggest corporations are Elakanota Heavy Industries (robotics and weapons manufacturer), Sentinel Media (news service with their own agenda), and Vendari Pharma (drug synthesis and exports). Between the three, they've got Earth in an iron grip.
Technology Levels:
1) FTL travel. The hypergate network links all UP worlds.
2) Internet: It's gone interstellar. Near instantaneous communication is commonplace even between planets. VR and AR are also commonplace. AIs are relied on for software design. Hackers are mostly AIs experts. Whoever has the cleverest heuristics wins the hack.
3) Cybernetics: AR implants are everywhere. VR is still largely done with headsets because all but the most cutting edge VR implants interfere with AR, causing psychosis. Bionic prostheses are only given to the military to augment soldiers. Everyone else either gets cloned limbs or (for the really poor) homemade prosthetics.
4) Transportation: Artificial gravity is being worked on but hasn't yet become practical. Most ground vehicles still have tracks and wheels. Engines use fuel cells or electric batteries. But these are very efficient, requiring recharging only once a week on average. Air travel uses bio fuels based on plankton.
5) Food: On Earth, mostly based on plankton and yeast. Colonies enjoy real plant and animal products.
6) Medicine: Cloned limbs and robotic surgery are common. Free clinics are run by 100% AI staff.
7) Weapons: Old fashioned slug weapons are still common. Needlers are also common but they are one-shots and disposable.
Spirituality: Most of the religions of today still exist. But there's a new group called the Sons of the Way that emerged about 30 years ago, around the time of the Asimov Decision. They believe that God will give AIs souls one day. Most people see them as crackpots.
World Theme: Cyberpink
1) Start with a cyberpunk base. Neon everywhere, evil corporations, VR hackers, AIs, genetic chimeras.
2) Take out the really uber depressing parts, e.g. despair, rampant drug abuse, police are a joke, etc.
3) Add friendly AIs. Some AGIs are starting to awaken, but for some reason none of them are evil in the slightest. In fact, some of them are downright cute!
4) The middle class still exists. Most people are just trying to muddle through.
5) The government is fighting the corps, but it's a hard fight. Some people still believe in government of, by, and for the people. But it's going to take sacrifice to get there.
6) Robots are very common, one robot to every three humans. And they look like gens or anime robots.
6) Ever since the music group Neonite recorded its first hit single Mecha-Mind, raves are more popular then ever. Whole city blocks host "flash raves" hosted by AIs. Gens can sometimes outnumber the humans at these raves, because they are so accepting of all life. If any gang members or other criminals try to stir up trouble, the AIs take control of all the local robots and get rid of the trouble-makers REAL FAST!

Jinxie's Tipz: How ta Stay All Safe an' Stuff...
Posted 6 years agoHidey ho!
Y'know sumthin'? Jinxie's kinda nervous today. How come? Cuz so many peepsies out there have funsies on da Interwebs and don't know that meany nasties are out there ta spoil their fun-time! Once upon a time, a loooooong-o time ago, the meanies were just kids out fer a joke or two.
Then things got real not nicey nice, neh? If it ain't organized crime, it's terrorists or even worse now-a-days. Brrr....
But ya know sumthin'? Y'all don't have ta be afraid. Know how come? Cuz y'all can do a couple o' real simple things ta make it so y'all ain't worth the nasty black hat people's time.
Step 1: Get yerself a good browser. IE and Chrome look all flashy an' stuff, but Jinxie don't use 'em, cuz they just ain't as secure they might be, neh? Jinxie recommends Firefox and TOR. Real secure-like, cuz they don't track ya and (in TOR's case) they route yer traffic all over the place so it's super-hard ta follow ya. Coolio!
Step 2: Get a good VPN. VPNs are kinda like a mini TOR, cuz they route yer internet comms through special servers ta mask yer location. 9 times outa 10 the nasties are gonna have a reeeeaaall hard time findin' y'all. ExpressVPN and NordVPN are really good.
That's it fer now. Q&A's welcome. Cheers, pallies! <3 <3
