A look into another industry
Posted 13 years ago<rant>
So as many of you know I am a web developer professionally, specifically I am what is referred to as a front end web developer. This means that most of my coding focus is on the site and not so much as the content management systems or the server side coding that lets the site function to begin with. I work for one of the largest sites in television entertainment, some people know what site but Im not going to say it here, I know over ten programming languages as well as full knowledge of SEO. So after all that I think Im well qualified to talk about the wonderful world of web development.
Over the past few years I have done a lot of freelance work building web sites for people here and there as well as consulting on large projects and the one thing that is the most common is the sticker shock. Yes websites are expensive. Depending on what tricks, tools, effects, and materials need to produce a small store website can run up to ten thousand dollars. This isn't an over exaggeration, a good website is the face of your business, for many people it will be the first thing they will see, and if the site is terrible, it will be the last as they walk away to another vendor.
Now I know there are people out there that can code a simple website or have used one of the many tools out there that come with the adobe suite or even apple products and say well I don't need to spend that kind of money if I can just do it myself. In a way they are right, if you want to build it yourself by all means take the initiative and do it, or ask a neighbors cousin who built the suite for his wow guild. When your site is done you'll have something out there for people to see, if they can find it on google or if it works in their browser or if it loads quickly on a crappy comcast connection.
A long time ago I was that kid people would come to for a cheap site only wanting to spend 100 dollars, then I went to school and was shown by some of the top developers currently out there that I knew about 2% of what I was doing. When you pay for website its the same as paying for a fursuit, you could spend $500 dollars and get a suit done by someone inexperienced and you could love it, but next to a seasoned suit maker your suit will quickly be forgotten because lets face it, the eyes are a little uneven, and its single stitch made with some cheap off brand fur. No one will remember a badly made site either.

In an odd place.
Posted 14 years agoSo I have to admit Im currently in a very odd place with my art. Im one of those people that can do anything I put my mind to, Im not afraid to just dive right into something, the problem with that out side of web development I dont really ever feel like I belong in one area. I've been doing furry erotica for over 15 years now and its not like I dont want to do it anymore but its not where my brain is at this moment. I guess I just dont feel the love for it like I used to. A little while back I did a few paintings (the mice) and from that it opened my eyes to doing canvas work, after that I mixed my other art hobby of graffiti with furry art and did the furvert paintings. I really loved doing those but I want to reach out with more stuff.
This makes me want to ask the other artists out there what do you do that you dont post here on FA? I know some of you out there only do furry work but I also know there are people that love to do non-furry work (and I dont mean humans).
Dont worry tho Im not saying bwaaa Im leaving the fandom or some bull-shit, I still identify myself as a furry, in fact it still influences a lot of my work. Im just saying that Im branching out to other medias and working on stuff non-traditionally furry (and even that isnt totally true I have a huge furry project Im currently working on but its going to take a long time to finish :p ) and at the same time I feel like I needed to post an update on whats going on.

X-mas, new-years, and an observation.
Posted 14 years agoFirst off Christmas was awesome I went down to florida and had a grand ole time with the family, got some loot and did nothing for a few days.
Now for the observation.
Its no fucking wonder Im a furry, I looked around the house and holy shit theres tons of anthro stuff all over the damn place XD
As for new years, Im not sure whats going on for it but I do know my resolutions and they are terribly typical of an american
1. Work on getting out of debt, mainly for me this means not paying off cards then filling them back up, I need to empty them then destroy them. I also need to spend my tax return this year on killing some of it. I always blow my tax return on toys but this year I must be strong and spend it on my debt.
2. Lose more weight. Last year I lost 68lbs and got down to 238lbs this year I want to at least get down to 200lbs, 180 would be awesome but I think with my body type 200lbs will be my limit. Best case is I would like to be 200lbs and have some definition. I want to bike more and maybe get into rock climbing seeing how a lot of furs here do it.
3. Start saving for a house, this kinda goes with number one but I really think Im going to stay here in Atlanta so I might as well stop throwing money away by renting and get myself a house I can call mine.
How about you guys? Whats are you hoping to accomplish this year?

commissions OPEN
Posted 15 years agoNo really I'm open for them just note me.
Ios4, Kindle app, writing and my many goings on.
Posted 15 years agoFirst off Happy Thanksgiving everyone, I just got back from driving to get some quick lunch and a cup of coffee and I couldnt help but smile at what I saw when I was driving around the neighborhood. Every house here has a veritable parking lot in front of it and the combination of every household cooking a Thanksgiving day feast has made my secluded part of Atlanta smell amazing. I wont lie I look forward to being a fat bunny latter on today and passing out from over indulgence.
That said let me get onto the points of this journal, I have decided after fifteen years of doing furcons that it was time to do two things, one Im going back to the table. I really did enjoy doing commissions, not only is it some great side income but I really do enjoy the looks I get when someone cracks open their sketchbook and sees somthing new that I created. So for the next few months I will be cracking down on getting some new merch together and a new table set up planned. My hope is that by AC I can have three portfolios, two new sets of Furvert Lanyards (one of the classic rainbow and the other a surprise) and another run of the popular sandblasted shotglasses, tumblers and pint glasses. Keep an eye on my account, I'll be posting updates here.
The second thing that is changing is that Im going to try my paw at writing, after talking with the Furplanet chaps I decided that I've done everything else artistic I can think of but putting my stories down with word. I've acted, directed, done stage work, worked on music, drawn, painted in watercolor, oils, spray paint, and acrylics, web designed, made a game, diy vinyl, sandblasted, sculpted and made an erotic snowman. Now dont get your hopes all up, just like every other writer my book has to be accepted before it can be published and its going to take me awhile to write it seeing how this is my frist try. But even as I start writing this book I can see the appeal of it, I've got three stories already up in my head aside from the one Im writing for my first try and I cant stop typing away on my ipad every chance I get.
Steve Jobs said the Ipad was going to change everything, and my only retort when I first got mine was "Well its only changed how I take a poop" but now that Ios4 has come out I find that the silly thing never is more then two feet away. Im currently using it to write my book, check twitter, run aim, and have some Dj Shadow in the background thanks to Pandora. The multi tasking is fantastic and the keyboard dock I got for it has made writing and revising my book amazing, so thanks Apple worth every penny.
Speaking of applications tho I want to point one out to you guys, the Amazon Kindle app is fucking amaaaaazing. At MFF I got the surprise of getting to eat dinner with not only my friends Teiran and Fuzz wolf but also the rest of Furplanet and SofaWolf. To make that surprise even more awesome it turns out I gave a lift to Kyell Gold and his mate, so the entire dinner I got to chat with Kyell, Cyanni and Confused about writing and literature. At one point in the feast of deep dish pizza and salad Kyell said that I should read the book The Modern Library Writer's Workshop by Stephen Koch. So when I got hope I pulled it from Amazon to my Ipad via the Kindle app. For starters the book is awesome, Im about half way into it and it has given me some awesome advice as well as calmed some of my nerves about the book. Second the app is fantastic, not only will it show you parts of the book other readers have highlighted but I can bookmark a page, open the app on my android phone and it will go to the page I bookmarked on my ipad. How snazzy is that?
Anyways to conclude all of this ranting. Im going back to table work at cons, Im writing a book, Get [i]The Modern Library Writers Workshop[i] for awesome advice on writing, the Amazon Kindle App is baller, and enjoy your Thanksgiving.
Cheers mates!

Mouse painting 3
Posted 15 years agoSo the third painting is almost done, just some last layers then the outlining so keep your eyes out it should be dropping this week. Once that one is done Im going to try my hardest to get the fourth and last painting done before MFF. (No promises tho haha) Like I stated before these guys will be going up for grabs once they are completed, I havent decided on a price yet so Im open to (realistic) suggestions.
Cheers!

MFM and Commissions
Posted 15 years agoJust got back from MFM, had a great time and it was awesome to see everyone there! The con is still tiny 500-600 people but its in a new kick ass hotel and I had a lot of fun getting drunk and fursuiting. As for commissions Im 99% done with all of them, TC got his at MFM and I only have to ship one out (hopefully tomorrow) and I'll be all done. What a relief that is, for the first time in what Im going to guess 10 years I dont have a commission list. That being said Im closing commissions until I have the desire to do them. If you want one you can send me a note with what you want and I'll consider it but I am actively no longer hunting commissions.
So what am I going to be doing with my art? Simply put Im going to be working more on canvas and just drawing stuff for the hell of drawing, it has been a really long time that I havent drawn or painted something not thinking of some one else. No worries tho, I will keep positing what I do on this account. I may stop doing commissions but I cant stop creating.
