Posted 15 years agoYeah, I dunno when I'll get a chance to just be able to draw for a few hours, so I'm going to be Livestreaming tonight around 8:30 Eastern 'till late. I'm sorry for the short notice, but hopefully anyone who wants to drop in can keep me company while I work.
So, remember guys: 8:30 at:

Livestream!
Posted 15 years agoI can't believe I got it to work on this computer! I can Livestream stuff now!
http://www.livestream.com/jacksoncobalt?t=343316
I dunno what to do live though, so I'll let everyone know when the time comes. Chances are I'll be working either very early in the morning or sort of late at night on average.
(Maybe the first live show I'll do will be the next contest picture...anyone interested in getting a head start on it would be wise to check it out!)

Contest is Starting NOW!!!
Posted 15 years agoIf you are seeing this, that means you have expressed some interest in entering in my "A Picture is Worth A Thousand Words" contest! Please comment to let me know that you are entering.
Art to be written about:
#1: After A Long Day...
http://www.furaffinity.net/full/4104607/
You can post the writing on FA, if you don't mind it being public (the winners will be, inevitably, published), or you may email it to me via jacksoncobalt@hotmail.com.
The deadline is JULY 21ST at 11:59 PM. If you have any other questions, I am all ears!
Rules and stuff are as follows:
You guys know the old saying, "A picture is worth a thousand words", right? Well, here's your chance to interpret the hell out of that adage!
Lately I've had an affinity for drawing a few pictures that are more narrative than usual. I was wondering, what better way to give the writers of FA some attention than to let them write a story based off of these two pictures. They are unrelated, so there are two chances to win!
What do you win, though, that's a tough one, but it's only fair, since you turned my picture into words, I'll turn your words into pictures! The winners I select can send me any short piece of writing (about 500 words, please) that they want to see turned into a short, 10-20 page comic!
Try to keep the story in one or maybe two scenes. That is to say: please keep the scene depicted more or less the focal point of the story. It can be as long or as short as you like, and there are no rules on the content, just be creative!

Composition, lol.
Posted 15 years agoI think I might spend longer on this picture cropping and moving it around to make the composition stronger than I did actually drawing it. Does that make me a bad person?
CONTEST IDEA, WRITERS, DO I HAVE ANY TAKERS!?
Posted 15 years agoPutting this up way in advance so I can maybe get a few people interested ahead of time...

So far, there is no deadline since the picture isn't done, but I want to generate some interest early on for you all, so please, comment if you want to join in on the contest, and I will personally notify you when the picture(s) are posted, and the contest begins!
I should also mention that you may collaborate, but you guys have to agree on what you want as a prize if you win together.
Ciao,

Website...
Posted 15 years agoAs of late, I have been considering making a website just for "Straypaws." It would be a place where, along with the comic, you could find other extras (such as character bios, special artwork, and maybe even a place for discussion.) I wouldn't plan on stopping the comic here, but I figured it would be a nice place for people who want to just read the comic without looking through the rest of my gallery (as much as I would love that, I can see how it would be frustrating.)
I guess what I'm getting at is, I don't know how to make websites with anything other than basic HTML, and I kind of wanted a more sophisticated method of compiling a gallery for the comic. Can anyone point me in the direction of simple ways I could do this myself? I already have the webspace, so no worries there, really. I was just wondering if anyone had any helpful tips, and thanks in advance for them!

Hey FA.

At a Turtle's Pace...
Posted 15 years agoSorry if you're so patiently waiting for your icon request to be done; this past weekend I felt like I needed a short break, and that I needed to pencil some more comic pages to keep at my current pace. No worries though; I am right back on the horse, and IconMania continues as 'sheduled'[sic].
Thanks!
Thanks!
This week in news:
Posted 15 years agoI have been watching way too much TV. Now, normally I'm not a big watcher, but I do tend to have it on when I'm doing other things because I like to have some kind of noise in the background (it's kind of a bad habit). However, for the first time in a long time, I'm actually WATCHING TV. First off, I'm trying to watch all of Avatar: The Last Airbender since this might be the only time they show every episode in sequence this summer. Back when the show was new I did try to watch it, but due to infrequent and random new episodes, I stopped watching about halfway through the show. Add to this, the re-airing of Dragon Ball Z as a remastered, condensed cartoon has me watching television at least a few hours a day. Hopefully when I'm all done with Avatar, I can get off my lazy butt and do some more work for a change.
Inkbunny: Day 3
Posted 15 years agoInkbunny seems like a pretty cool, DeviantArt like community. It would be really great to get a head start on submitting things on to it...but I can't seem to have my work appear on the "most recent" page. Most of the time it just doesn't appear on the front page at all. That's kind of a problem, isn't it?
Following my cheese-
Posted 15 years agoI created an Inkbunny page!!
http://inkbunny.net/jacksoncobalt
I'm not so sure about it right now-it did just take 3 minutes to upload one submission, and it does seem a little constraining, but I'm willing to give it a shot!

Comic Update: Jake
Posted 15 years agoExcitement mounts for the next page, as I am finally going to show the stunning boy Katrina has fallen so hard for.
Or maybe I'll miss Wednesday's update... who really knows?
Anyway, I was going to share a small collage of a few old drawings of the twins for anyone to see their development throughout the years. Interestingly enough, Jasmine was the first cat/person I ever drew and ultimately got me into the anthro art business. I had intended for her to be the main character for the original project "Stray" turned into, but decided that Katrina was a much better choice. Jas's character was already pretty grown up even as a teenager, and I really wanted to make a character that was a little introverted and not quite mature yet.
Honestly I forget sometimes what "Straypaws" was years before. Maybe I should post some old art from my original intentions? Well, anyway, it's been really fun working on the comic, and you dedicated readers have been keeping me going!
Thank you!
JC

Posted 15 years agoI'm afraid that I'm not going to get this 1K picture done in time. I mean, it's almost done but I dunno.
No one will care if I'm a few views off, right??

Distressing news--
Posted 15 years agoI didn't realize 2 things that I probably should have.
1. 1000 Pageviews is kind of coming up faster than I had anticipated.
2. Not many people took on the fanart request (Thanks
animewolfchick)
So, I've already thought of a contingency for this very situation- I'm simply going to push back the fanart request to--well whenever I have some to use. And Animewolfchick, if you're reading this, I will still put up whatever you drew, sorry for any inconvenience i brought you.
I have another 1K project planned, and who knows, you might just learn a thing or two about me in this one~

Artists Needed: Help with a little project?
Posted 15 years agoI am kindly leaving a request on my journal for any artist around that would like a little bit of free publicity.
You can say I'm putting together a collaborative piece. I've been here on FA for a few months now, and I have almost reached a small milestone of 1000 pageviews. I so very much enjoy this website, and I thought I would celebrate by putting together a piece based on my working comic "Straypaws" (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3708654/), and I was *twiddles thumbs* kinda hoping some of of the few fans or otherwise following the comic could make a simple piece or two based on any of the characters therein (seriously, no matter how small a role).
It will end up being 'collaged in with the final piece, as well as credit given to every artist who is willing to lend a hand.
If it is ever a time to hope I have fans, this would be it!
I hope I didn't come off too pathetic or pompous, and thanks a lot...

A reminder...
Posted 15 years agoFor those of you who had responded to my journal about being a cameo in "Straypaws" (http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/1362964/) I have some exciting news... your time is approaching!
After Monday, the brand new pages of "Stray" are coming up, so expect to receive a message about your request coming in the next few weeks!
For those of you who have waited so long to see your character show up in a comic, I applaud you! Thanks!

Where's your info!?
Posted 15 years agoYea, I took down all my hiring information. My page started to feel more like a Denny's menu than a page for my art. I took it down, but that doesn't mean I'm closing requests/commissions/trades/whatever. This is just something I'd rather handle on a case to case basis rather than have a list of prices/what I can do. I would never stop doing requests, because I absolutely love doing them for you guys.
It's difficult for me to keep remembering that that's why I really like doing art: To make people happy and maybe teach 'em a thing or two.
I want someone to hire me based on them liking my work, not my prices, so I don't really feel right keeping a list of all my prices and stuff up. Maybe now someone who visits my page won't have to cross a desert of text to get to the actual art!
Thanks for understanding, and if you don't understand, I'm sorry.
~JC
P.S. if you do want to know my rates...just shoot me a message and I'll return to you as soon as possible. (Don't actually shoot it, that would hurt.)

Need badges?
Posted 15 years agoI'll be taking commissions (specifically for the Mephit Fur Meet this september, but I can do other conventions too). The thread
below details and showcases some of my work. Note me if you have any interest in having a badge done by yours truly.

Upating...
Posted 15 years agoHello everyone! It's been about a week since my last entry, so maybe I'm trying to keep up...
I've been updating Straypaws, and unfortunately it's at a bit of a slow part. The problem with updating a serial a few times a week is that pages that really should just be read through in a second don't leave a lasting impression as much as the eventful ones. However, the coming pages should promise a bit of action and drama, so anyone bearing with me, I appreciate it, and you won't be disappointed.
Thanks for reading (if you did that is)
