General | Posted 11 years agoFucking host keeps messing up and having network problems so FURSTRE.AM keeps cutting out.
The server is fucking up a lot to.
No money to upgrade server, no money to upgrade software, no money to pay the dev.
Just going titsup atm. So close to calling it quits tbh..

Any fursuit makers interested in prebuilt fans for heads? UK
General | Posted 11 years agoI doubt any fursuit makers follow me, my unpopufur but....
I have had a lot of interest on FaceBook for this, custom built fursuit head fans.
These will be all in one systems that allow you to just fit into your heads and connected the battery.
No need to wire it yourself or worry about having the wires twisted for wrong voltage.
The fan set will include a fan connected to a 3x AA battery pack or a USB rechargeable battery.
The USB pack will allow for more things to be connected like a set of EL wire eye lights that I sell, also last longer and can be charged from a PC/laptop or any wall plug you would normally charge a mobile from.
Sets start from £15 with free shipping in the UK.
Anyone?

Are you a web developer or know someone? Cool do with help!
General | Posted 11 years agoSo I am running a new project, you might have heard of it, http://fursuiter.net/
We are building up a team, but most don't have the time to work on it as much as we could do with.
So I am trying to find more people to help allow us to develop it faster with a more broader range of skills.
Things we need is skills in Python, HTML, CSS/LOSS, SQLAlchemy, Redis etc
Also need technologies like OpenStack (or similar), Web servers, Linux Administration, Networking etc
And again also need people with skills in Advertising, PR, User management, Project Management, CrowdFunding, Accounting etc
Even if you can help directly with the project, ie working on it as a staff member, you can still correspond with us and help.
So yea, if you are someone with skills like this, or know someone who can help please get in touch.
These rolls are unpaid but it is for an awesome project that is so worth working on, even if it is a few hours a week.
Thanks guys!

Jack,
Advertising, your identity and ads on Fursuiter.net
General | Posted 11 years agoThis might go on a bit, also this is my opinion and knowledge of advertising from places I have worked, not everything will be 'correct' but is from what I have worked on.
Recently a lot of news sites have been covering people's identity with advertising.
They say that when you go online, you build up a profile. This profile contains information you have provided such as what you have searched for, age, personality, your intelligence, income... Basically everything you can think of.
From these profiles, places can even tell if women are pregnant.
Target, a large US shop, was in the spotlight a few years ago after it started sending out promotional offers to teens for baby items, even before they knew they were pregnant. They were able to do this after compiling massive amounts of data from its users that shopped on their site. With this information they were able to predict from what people bought before, during and after pregnancy if someone was pregnant.
So as you can see this information can be very useful to some, and in some cases sold for large amounts of money.
The thing is that this is not advertising companies, this is direct with the website and advertising places like Google don't sell your information like this.
Yet for some reason the media gets this mixed up. From what I can see the media no longer research themselves but get correspondents to give this information out instead. The problem with this is that they don't fully understand how these systems work at Google.
Google do build up profiles, they know just like Target everything about you from the information you provide when using their services, and Google, well they are everywhere....
They host your email, they have your debit card and home address on Google Play and Wallet, they know what you search for on the internet using their search engine and they can follow you even when you are not on their site with the tracking code on most sites by their tracking service Google Analytics.
So yea, Google has a lot of data on you, going back years and is worth a lot of money.
Each person that uses Google services is worth over £500 each a year, calculated by researches [citation needed].
If Google sold this data, they could resolve the US debt......
So back to what the media say, they say that Google and many services like it "sell these profiles of users to advertising firms". They put over that the profile data, meta data, is sold. As in that information is given to others for profit.
This is untrue and is the result of failed research and using correspondents that don't actually know what they are meant to be providing information on.
What this leads to is the public not getting correct information, and forming opinions that lead to views on services that they use resulting in rash unneeded changes such as over protecting their "identity" and stopping of using services like FaceBook...
So what do Google and other services like it do with this data?
Well lets create a scenario. I want to create an ad on Google's Adwords for FURSTREAM.
I have made a image that I will upload. I then need to select who I want to target.
So ill be wanting to promote this towards people in the furry fandom.
There is no target a furry button, shame. The fandom is also very open from young people to old, girls and boys from poor to rich. So it can be a bit hard to target.
So ill be using search terms. When you search something like "Furaffinity" this gets added to your online profile.
I can add hundreds of terms. So I can easily cover all the furry terms and be able to direct straight to people in the fandom.
Once I set these terms I can start the ad. And boom I am now advertising on sites directing my ads directly at Furries.
So where in that do I know who you are? Where do I get information on you?
Well I don't.... And that is what a lot of people don't realise, Google ads and other services like FaceBook don't provide this information. Ill never know who you, even if you visit my site, unless if you register and provide me that information. Even then I only know you came from an ad on a site somewhere on the net...
What places do sell your information then? Well when you sign up on a site. They might sell your information without you even even knowing to data firms. Most of the time though to places that collect bulk amounts of data and then sell it on. These bulk collectors will collect data from thousands if not hundreds of thousand sites that are willing to sell your information and put it together to create portfolios.
So it is really hard to protect yourself... You don't know if any site, Furaffinity, Weasly and even sites I run are selling your data.
Even if you try and protect yourself, most of the time new portfolios will be made of you, that could be easily matched to each other...
Well then, why bring this up? Well the new site I am working on, Fursuiter.net is having ads on it and people want to know how we will using advertising technologies to help advertisers, but keep user's data private.
And in general this is a model that all site owners should use for directed advertising on their own site using their own data.
So on Fursuiter.net we will only be using data that users provide. Such data is like what part of the sites do users visit, do they own a fursuit, are they a fursuit builder, are they wanting to build fursuits, where users live (country only), their age and gender and a few other things.
This is so we can offer targeting advertising for advertisers. Advertisers can sign up, and target their ads directly at people they want to see the ads.
Unlike FA and the other furry art sites that show all ads to all users (excluding adult ads that are only shown to NSFW users) we will have this so users get relevant ads and advertises get the most out of their money.
So I just want to repeat what I said earlier, these advertisers wont get YOUR details, they will never know who you are, just like how people who use 90% of the advertising companies will also never know who you are, or ever get that information.
I also want to say that I as a site owner will NEVER sell your information to other people, though we may use your information for improving the site it will never been for profit.
I know this is all a bit disjointed, I wrote it over a few hours watching some on demand TV, but I hope it clears up information you might have read or been given by the media who don't have a clue...

Anyone know a good way to get fit?
General | Posted 11 years agoFeeling really fat atm, probably because I am :3
Had a month off and got another to go till Uni and all I have done is sat at my computer the whole time putting on at least another stone.
I tried to reduce my intake of food, I have done this but I feel I can do better.
Need to start using the weights I bought more than once a week. Also got a bike I need to use.
Anything else I can do?

Fursuiter.net update
General | Posted 11 years agoSo I have not posted much on this as it was still in the early stages of planning.
Well over the last few months we have started programming the site. It is going well but could do with a hand.
We have already spent money on software packages for developing the site faster and to help debug the code easier.
We also have the need for a development environment on servers for testing and hosting the development builds of the site.
There is also the cost of promoting the site. We are planning on having flyers at AC this year, over 500 of them to hand out to people.
Also have plans to have some at other cons to.
Costs start to add up, costs that I can't pay for myself and I really don't want the devs forking out when they are already busting their balls programming the site.
So we are thinking about crowdfunding the development of the site. There are many sites that offer crowd funding. All have extra costs on top of them though.
Might as well just host our own on our own site... What I need to know is if there are people out there willing to give money to help the developed of the site and the start up costs of the hardware to host it on.
I have already had a fair few people show support for this. Need more though. $100 is helpful, but does not cover much. So we need your support.
Please leave a comment bellow if you are interested in helping out in this way. Spread the word too please.
Thanks guys

Just my luck, fursuit related
General | Posted 11 years agoSo I have been wanting a fursuit recently.
Been wanting one for awhile but really want one now.
So I have been searching for the perfect fur. I don't want something plain and single tone colour though as Cheetahs have loads of colour in their coats.
So after months of searching I find the fur I want. After hours of trying to find the fur's name I posted a topic on a forum and the lovely
madebymercury told me that it was, Mellow Yellow. But the place that sold it ran out.
Just my fucking luck....
I doubt they will ever stock it again but I think I found the perfect replacement...

Looks like perfect Cheetah fur?

Might be a bit too light if anything but can always airbrush in a bit more colour in patches that will make it more like the painting above?

I liked the Dr Phil show with the Furs on... Let me explain
General | Posted 11 years agoSo if you have not seen it yet go watch.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1k8wMS7uNa8
The boomer part is not that bad, they only brought up the "Furry" part once but hardly focused on it.
Boomer did quite a good job explaining himself and made it more that it is what he likes to do rather than oh this is why Furries do (I hope they don't... memories of the cat food eating thread on a forum comes to mind)....
Okay so the second part is a girl and her mum, her mum does not like the Furry thing and makes out that "you don't know who are under these suits".
Really it just the mother is incompetent and the girl is freeloading off her and going to meets and conventions.... It is the perfect TypicalFurry stereotype...
It to me at least is not as bad as people are making it out to be.
Dr Phil did not attack the fandom like other shows and he was happy about people being in it,
just don't like it take over yourself, make it so you can support yourself and pay for your rent, gas and food and then have fun once you have done this.
I think a lot of people should take that on board...

Developing a new site for the Fursuiting community!
General | Posted 12 years agoSo many of you know that I create websites like FURSTRE.AM
Well my next project is a community site for the Fursuiters.
It will have;
-Photo uploading and gallery
-Profiles
-Fursuit Maker pages
-Group pages
-Event pages
-Community made tutorials guides
-Forum
and much more
If you want the full list head over to the forum at the bottom of the site here FURSUITER.NET/#contact
I do hope this is a successful website, I have already put months of research together and spent over a month working on planning and ideas.
I now get to boss the awesome
thedreae who is the web developer (he programmed FURSTRE.AM) as we now build the site.
It will take some time, it is 10 levels in complexity harder than FURSTRE.AM but we both like to change ourselves.
Please help out by posting around on social media and other Furry sites about this project. We need the community to power us to build this site.
Thanks guys for the support.

Looking for a UI designer for a new website!
General | Posted 12 years agoHi guys
I am looking for a UI designer for a new website I am overseeing.
The site is Furry/fursuit related and we are wanting it to be very modern and dynamic.
We expect the site to be quite "popufur" so we want the design to be great.
If you are interested then please email jack[at]furstre.am
If you know anyone who would be interested in the project then please point them in my direction.
Thanks!

LiveStreaming Raspberry Pi project - Part 1
General | Posted 12 years agoEver since the Raspberry Pi was publicly promoted over 3 years ago (released 2 years ago) I have always wanted one.
But I kept putting myself off as I would not really have much to do with it other than play with code, now I realised that was the point of it I guess that a a poor argument against buying one...
Anyway, I saw that they are now being manufactured in the UK so today I bought one, with a camera :)
Why?
Well I want to create a FURSTRE.AM package on it and allow people on FURSTRE.AM to use it to live stream as a cheaper alternative to a webcam or PC upgrade.
I am also interested to see if anyone wants to see live streams from conventions?
I know streaming live from cons is not new, but on a scale of 4-5 cameras with shots from multiple angles will be a lot better than just a static or portable camera with wireless streaming (when I say multiple shots I mean 4-5 cameras streaming not just 4-5 single stream shots)..
Problems with streaming from a con:
-Con does not allow it (I see a few reasons why)
-Internet connection (more detail bellow)
-Getting equipment there. Though the RasbPi with camera is a small package, if one is not going to the con how does one manage the setup and make sure it is safe?
-Overload of servers causing black hole due to massive interested (unlikely outcome)
-- Internet connection
This is the main problem. I see only 3 ways of doing this,
--- Hotel connection. This can be super slow, I remember CFz last year...
--- 3/4G cellular, would cost a lot unless sponsored by carrier, even then it would be hard to get a signal inside of the con. (great for portable camera though!). Even so 1000 people in a small area... All to be going off 1 or 2 towers in the local area slows it all down.
--- Satellite (20mbps upload, have to rent or buy dish, £60 a month ~ £15 a week) Initial costs are high unless free dish is picked up on trade site, even then it is hard to get a package for just one week, not impossible though. -Favorited way of doing it
Audio is another problem, the RasbPi does not have a input for audio. Would have to use an USB audio board.
This would be used for a radio input from sound system. Pump the music and mastered audio straight to the stream, not using a mic to pick it up.
Another option is a usb TV tuner, £5 each it would be cheaper than a audio board and receiver. Getting it to work win FFMPEG though will take some work, they don't have "listen on 108.00FM" by the looks of it. Will have to research more.
Another problem is FFMPEG.
This is the encoding software that would be used. Getting it to work well is hard, getting it to change inputs (show jpeg when there is nothing going on, eg at night) looks hard without something in-between the camera and FFMPEG. Already on a very low powered CPU this will be hard.
Creating some sort of web interface will be best for controlling all the cameras. Turn them on/off, restart, change stream settings, audio on/off, jpeg overlay on/off etc etc...
The list goes on...
Will be fun anyway!
Don't think that I will be doing this rather than working on FURSTRE.AM and getting it improved. Most of the site work is done by Dreae the developer, I just project manage now and do some server stuff.
Tell us what you think, would you like to see live streams from cons if they allow it?
Jack,
PS, I just want to note that 4-5 cameras will cost a lot, this is for like in the future if people want it. Would be one or two max at first.

Been aright I guess in my Furry world:P
Joined the Furry fandom
Made a friend
Went to Confuzzled 2013
Created a live streaming site FURSTRE.AM
Made a few more friends
Finally set myself on a "fursona" that I like
Bought my first bit of art
Managed to crash a server while 200 people were online (three times...) :3
Made this journal
So yer been fun.
What does 2014 hold?
I hope that Dreae is able to finish the FURSTRE.AM site upgrade. Built from the ground up he has already done great work. Also Kero who is doing a lot of chat server work, hope we all are able to pull out an epic site in the first part of Jan for you all to enjoy
I hope to start weight loss. Going to buy a weight set and put a load of muscle on to burn fat
Attempt to make a fursuit head for the fun of doing so. If it turns out okay ill make a few more till I feel happy to make a whole suit, though that is only if I lose the weight :P
Hope to get an interview for Uni, film production course
Also hope I get in :3
Maybe go to CFz2013? £300 to raise :3 Would like to meet UncleKage at least, if I can't raise that much I should be able to at least go down on the train for the day, probably Saturday and get there for 10am and leave at 3am :P
If I get into Uni then I hope to be able to kick out a rental tenant out of a spare house my gran has, use 2 months over the summer to fix it up.
Nice big downstairs area for computers and either fursuit making if I am good or a photography studio.... Or both? :P
Hopefully all will turn out the way I planned, bet it wont knowing my luck ^^
Anyway thanks for all the support, it has been so much fun over the last 10 months.... Christ that means in over 2 months I would have been in the fandom for a year 0_0
That went quickly!
Thanks again all, I doubt any of you are going to read this, consider it as a note place for me to remind me what to do over next year :P
