The Request Bin has been temporarily shut.
Posted 10 years agoHello, all.
As stated in the title of the journal, I am temporarily closing the Request Bin to new requests. This does not mean that I am canceling the requests currently listed in the Bin, but I am not taking any additional requests until I finish those.
Mostly, I am tired of having requests that have been sitting in the bin for a year or nearly so, so I would like to empty it out. With that statement in mind, I hope it is obvious to all, especially those who have submitted requests in the past few days, why I will not put your request at the front of the line simply because you ask or demand it.
On that note, and I hate to be petulant, but requests submitted in this form: "My character, ______, doing this ______. I'd like it done by Monday." are not actually requests. They are demands. It is not the Demand Bin, and I will more than likely refuse your demand if it is submitted thusly. Courtesy is greatly appreciated during any correspondence.
With that said, however, everyone for whom I have drawn a request so far has been overwhelmingly polite, and has been a pleasure to engage. :)
Additionally, I have not yet been able to begin a project that has been being prepared for some time, so I may alternate working on current requests and the project for some time.
If you are a person who already has a request on my list, and you have read this and are still waiting with bated breath, please comment and let me know, and I will do your requests before those who do not comment.
That is all I have to say right now. I hope everyone has a lovely Easter, or just a nice Sunday.
Thank you.
-Jae

Delightful
Posted 10 years agoYo.
Just for fun, tonight I browsed FA, found artists who were approximately as skilled as I am, and checked their commission prices because, naturally, I would eventually like to do more commissions than requests. I found it hilarious that people who are only about as good as me have the gall to charge upwards of $200 (plus more for additional characters) for the types of requests I do for free, as a thank you to my watchers. I was shocked, though, that other people actually commissioned them! I would not dare to charge $200 for a commission at this level of skill. Even very talented artists like
wolf-nymph,
kenket, and
alectorfencer do not charge $200 for such basic pieces.
My mind is blown.
With that in mind, I would like to thank all of my watchers, and remind you that my requests are a thank-you to everyone who watches me. I am very grateful.
At the same time, though, I would exhort you all to dissuade any friends of yours from paying that much money for a commission that simply is not worth it. Point them towards lesser known artists who would do a picture of similar quality for less (coughmecough) or, rather, better known artists who would produce a picture of higher quality for less. Like, oh, say, I dunno,
Jailbird, whose commissions are all hugely discounted right now.
Am I being unfair for begrudging these artists their absurdly overpriced commissions? What do you all think?

Please read my request policy before sending a request.
Posted 10 years agoHello, all.
A little issue I have been having over the past few days. Many people have been sending requests without reading my request policy (outlined here, in the Request Bin : http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/5065693/ ).
Please make sure to do this first. It is not very long, and can save you having to ask what I will and will not draw, and any subsequent unpleasantness if I refuse such requests.
Additionally, if you want a request, but simply do not want to +watch me, then you do not have to. My feelings will not be hurt, and you can go on your way, feeling superior because you have denied a sell-out. But I am not going to draw for you.
Thank you.

Back
Posted 10 years agoBack from my unannounced hiatus. Funny. Even though I'm barely involved in the fandom, one starts to miss the atmosphere a bit.
Anyway, I should be kicking out a few drawings in the next couple weeks, and I should have a rather lengthy comic-type project starting within the next few months. Now, 19032 submissions require my attention.
Requests in the request bin and all that. I'll get to them eventually.

Updates, ToS, and stuff.
Posted 11 years agoBecause people have been asking for them, I have uploaded my terms of service under my Commission Info tab. They are also at the end of this journal.
Additionally, I have updated my request list in the Request Bin. If you are not on there and should be, kindly remind me and I will place you according to the date of your request.
I would also like to remind everyone that paid commissions, raffle prizes, and trades will always supplant requests on my to-do list. That is, they will always have higher priority. That said, I will still get to your requests. Worry not. The only way to guarantee that your piece is not pushed back by someone else's, however, is if you pay me for it -wink wink- .
Terms of Service
1. Displayed base prices (when displayed) may change according to complexity, difficulty and size of each individual piece.
2. Clear and concise visual references and/or description of a commission idea must be provided by the Commissioner.
3. The Commissioner must pay full price before the commission is started.
4. If the Commissioner wishes to cancel their commission during the sketch stage, they will be refunded 50% of what they paid.
5. If the Commissioner wishes to cancel their commission during or after the coloring stage they will not be issued a refund.
6. The Artist reserves the right to issue a refund and cancel a commission due to poor communication, rude or inappropriate behavior.
7. The Artist reserves the right to reject any commission for any reason.
8. The Artist retains the right to display all commissioned work on any personal website, gallery, or journal. If the commissioned work is a time-sensitive gift the Artist may delay public showcase at the request of the Commissioner.
9. The Artist retains ALL the rights to the commissioned artwork, including the right to make prints and merchandise.
10. The Commissioner retains all rights to their respective characters. This does not allow them rights to the commissioned image. (See 8. and 9.) Commissioner, does not, however, require the Artist's permission to upload the image to any website or gallery, as long as proper credit is given to the Artist.
11. The Artist may recycle sketches and preparatory works that were rejected by the Commissioner for other commissions or personal works.
12. The Commissioner must read, understand, and agree to all the above terms before entering into an agreement with the Artist. By sending payment, the Commissioner agrees to the above terms.
Taken mostly from two artists who hold my respect.

Winner of the 100-Watcher Raffle Comic
Posted 11 years agoHello again, all.
So, it is the last day of April and I am a man of my word, so I have drawn a winner for my 100-watcher raffle! Huzzah!
There were 35 participants, which surprised me a little, because I received an enormous influx of watchers after announcing the raffle, but the vast majority of those new watchers did not join. Huh. I still appreciate the watches, though, everyone :) .
I also just wrote up a big congratulations journal for the originally-drawn winner, but they unwatched me during the course of the raffle. Aw. Disqualified. As a note for future raffles, I will only pick winners who are still on my watchers list. I will not note someone to get their watch back after the fact.
He will receive a five page comic from me, with the subject matter of his choice. The comic will receive 4th priority in my current queue, after...
1. A request to be finished for
Tymid.
2. A portrait for a raffle victory for
MeikoWolf7.
3. A reference sheet for a raffle victory for
The_Conspirer.
Thank you to everyone for your participation and for your watches! I apologize for my inactivity and will hopefully turning more art out after the 11th of May. Also, I'll be holding my next watcher raffle at 350 watchers! Tell your friends!

100 Watcher Comic Raffle
Posted 11 years agoHello all. Thanks to the recent mega raffles, I now have over 100 watchers. Hurrah!
Thank you all. I appreciate you being here, and sticking around even after the raffles have ended. Whether you just haven't gotten around to leaving yet, or you genuinely enjoy my art, I hope I can convince you to stick around.
Anyway. In celebration of my breach of the 100-watcher milestone, I'd like to hold a raffle.
The winner of the raffle will receive a 5-page comic from me, with the subject matter of their choice. Same restrictions as my request bin, however. To enter, just comment below, and I'll assign you a number to be randomly selected on the last day of April.
Rules
1. Watch me. It is a watcher raffle, after all.
2. Post a link to a cute puppy picture. I will be checking, and they had better be adorable.
3. Accept the fact that it will take a long time for me to get to/finish your comic. I am a busy guy, with little time for art. I just enjoy doing it, so I do it when I can.
And yeah. That's it. Oh, and it would be cool if you advertised this. I'm here for the fame and glory, after all.

The Request Bin (Currently Shut)
Posted 12 years agoI'm offering free art to anybody who wants it, but you must be a watcher.
Here is how it will work: If you are interested, send me a note which includes a ref sheet of any included characters and a description of what you want your picture to include. I will do any number of characters, any amount of colour, any background, any subject matter (except scat, watersports, gasplay, gore, and mutilation. I have tried and did not enjoy the results).
Upon receipt of your note, I will send you a reply acknowledging your request, asking for more details if I need them, or alerting you if I am inexperienced with your requested subject matter (I will still do it, but it's best that you should know ahead of time). Because I am an extremely busy person, with classes and work nearly all day every day, it may take me a while to get to your piece, but rest assured, I will get there. When I begin your piece, I will send you another note confirming your request, and when I finish your piece, I will show it to you to make sure that you are content and address anything with which you may not be content.
I do reserve the right to cancel requests if you irk me. This is free art. I gain nothing but practise and broader horizons; I really just enjoy drawing. And, while I may not be an especially talented artist, working on these requests does consume a lot of time. Also, if I send you a note and you do not respond within three days, I will move on to the next request. Your spot will be reserved for when you do respond, however.
So! Spread the word, note me, or both! You're not competing for any spots, I'm just taking all comers! This offer will remain open until I explicitly withdraw it.
Current list:
1. Royalwolfknight
2. Astra_Umbral
3. xRin_Sanx
4. DeviousDarkPaws
5. DracheVonSchwarz
6. FoxxyStyles
7. DarthZion
8. darkangelvixen19

11. The_True_Blue_Wolf

Broken Promises
Posted 12 years agoI said I wouldn't paint, then decided to paint. The result was less than desirable. I have learnt my lesson; stick to black and white, Jae.
Also, I've decided to draw gift pieces for my followers, both the ones I currently have and the ones I may gather in the future. Unless I someday become acclaimed and get 100,000 followers... because that would be exhausting.
Anyway, I should have plenty of time to draw stuff in the near future, so expect more! And maybe even some improvement!

Painting...
Posted 12 years agoYeah, yeah, I failed. I kept the artsplosion going 'til day 9, but so hated everything that I produced that I didn't post anything. Then life caught up with me.
Today, I drew up a sketch with which I am rather pleased, but drew it to be painted, which I then did. The painting detracted from its quality, however. It could be my achromatism, because of which I'm not very good at painting, but I am also inclined to believe that my extremely basic software's paint function is just of very low quality.
I have resolved to not paint anything until I get decent software, like Paint Tool Sai.
Tomorrow, I am undoing the paint on my sketch and just putting it out as black and white.

Day 2
Posted 12 years agoToday's sketch had me prancing all over my room and snapping pictures of myself to see what ballet pose I liked best. There was much laughter by my roommates at my expense.
Only more embarrassment to come.
Only more embarrassment to come.
Getting to work.
Posted 12 years agoSo I haven't posted anything in a while. This is not to say that I have not drawn in a while. I have simply hated everything that I've done. Trying to develop styles based on my favourite artists doesn't work for me, apparently, because I have no style of my own.
Therefore, I have decided to spit out a drawing a day until I have my own style. The first of these drawings is now in the gallery. Many of these drawings will not make it to the gallery, because I am sure that I will not want to see them.
Regardless, new beginnings are always a good time.
