Artists to Commission (anthro dragons, birds, scalies)?
Posted 4 months agoFirst week into my new job, and I'm now planning on being financially irresponsible (ok not really lol).
Any artists who are open for commissions? Budget-wise, I'm keeping myself to a max $150 USD.

AI Imagery vs Banana Taped to A Wall
Posted 4 months agoWe all heard of the (in)famous "Banana Taped to the Wall" exhibit in 2019 (Link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comedian_(artwork))
Someone then asked me recently, 'is a Banana Taped to a Wall any more valuable than AI imagery?'
But I'm curious to hear what others think!
Personally, I resolve this problem by saying that Banana Taped to the Wall isn't so much art in a traditional sense, its the application of "art" to a public stunt.

Celebrating Non-English Speaking Artists & More
Posted 4 months agoI truly admire the many non-English speaking artists who come to FA (or Twitter) and use a language not native to them.
It's easy for us English-speakers to sometimes bemoan about "an artist not understanding our instructions", but I think the responsibility is on us (with Google translate available these days) to find a sort of balance, and if we have the time and energy, learn one or two nuances to make communication easier. Just don't go too hard, some peeps might find it patronising.
A couple of things I've learnt over the years in the fandom:
- Most European countries place the $/£/€ sign AFTER the number. This is why I can usually tell someone is from Europe if they write: 200$ or 150 €.
- Decimal placement. In English speaking countries, one writes €150.90, while it's 150,90 € in the EU.
- Russian and Ukrainian speakers add ) to the end of sentences as a smile emoji equivalent to : )
- If someone typos an English sentence like "zhqt time is it?" on their phone, they're likely from France and using an AZERTY keyboard.
- British vs American spelling. You can pretty much tell you're talking to a person from the UK if they're typing: colour, realise, or tyre. Though I've seen a couple of UK peeps use American spelling to blend in with the fandom's American predominance. Also, British spelling is superior, and I'm not even British.
- Metric system and temperatures. You know who you are.
- Height and weight. This is another dead giveaway on where someone is from. If they gave their height of their OC in cm/m, they're almost likely not from the Anglosphere. Personally, I still cannot wrap my head around pounds (lbs), and my only reference to what inches are is penis sizes.

Artist Turn Offs?
Posted 4 months agoFor me:
1) "I don't know, but I don't think this commission is going to get me twitter numbers."
2) "I'm not feeling it. I don't like doing commissions."
3) "I mean, it's your commission."
(FYI this is when payment has ALREADY been made).
I truly respect, feel and understand where artists come from when they are feeling like this. I'm a musician myself and I compose music for clients; I know that feeling.
But artists that seem to give off this reluctant vibe regularly irk me (and I'm not referring to any one artist in particular, it's from my experience commissioning so many artists over the last 6 years). I don't just pay knowing I will be getting a great piece of art, I'm also paying for the process, and the relationship built. There are some things money can't buy, and I cherish every stroke the artist makes with care and dedication.
I'm a super chill commissioner, and I've had working relationships with even difficult artists, some with more "bluntness" than others. In fact, I rather have an artist straight up tell me they hate X on my OCs and say "I won't do it", than someone saying "okay, it's your commission after all."
I once had an artist say that Valexia is the ugliest OC they've ever seen, and guess what, they still delivered a great product, and we became friends.
On the flip side, I had someone say X OC is super beautiful and they'll love to draw them again and again, only to fail to deliver a commission of that OC they supposedly adore.
I don't know for others, but for me, my style is: "Be honest with me, and let's fucking do this".

Small FA Profile Update
Posted 5 months agoSo it's been a while since I updated my front FA page, profile banner, and a new (actually meaningless) profile picture. Don't ask me what these circles mean, they were made in Microsoft PowerPoint using shape tools and just slapping it on 3D Gif Maker, make it spin, and boom, it's there.
I've also posted a small FAQ in the featured journal.
Anyways, how are you all doing?

Back from Australia
Posted 5 months agoI'm back from Australia (specifically Tasmania). Really beautiful place, and unfortunately, I did not manage to eat any succulent Chinese meal. But the landscapes were beautiful, nonetheless!
Let me know where I should visit next. My next potential trips are: Turkey, Greece and Italy.

Flying off to Australia for Succulent Chinese Meals
Posted 6 months agoI promise my penis won't be touched by the police, and that all succulent meals I consume are not in violation of local laws. (Only my Australian watchers would know what all this meant).
On a more serious note, I'll be flying off to Tasmania for 1 week from 14 to 22 May for holiday. A sort of celebration for landing a new job which I will start in late June.
2nd half of 2025 is looking great for me, and I'm looking forward to it.

Do You Have OCs With Criminal Records?

Two OCs Left?
Posted 11 months agoI have officially two OCs left to create and my character canon is complete. The two remaining OCs are a female Praying Mantis and male Goliath Tigerfish.
I created my first OC, Irda, all the way back in 2012, followed by her mate (and my sona) Kedran in the same year. The two today remain cornerstones of my modern and fantasy canons. We seriously came a long way!
Any more characters I create after the final two won't be featured as part of the canon (unless there is enough demand for them). Overall, I just love character creation and building.

Should "AI Music" be called "AI Sounds" Instead?
Posted a year agoI'm writing this in my capacity as a composer and musician.
A lot of artists I meet (and I 100% agree with them) is to never call AI generated images as "Art".
They feel that the term "AI Art" devalues the human-centric approach to creating art, by having it replaced by machine-learned technology that is only fed data of images and artworks "stolen" from the digital space.
While I do agree with this position, nobody seems to be raising a point about "AI Music" (or at least in my research).
AI generated music has been around LONGER than AI image generation, and is very developed (heck, I even did AI generated music when I was in university as part of a course way before the AI boom in 2022). Heck, you could even argue, albeit it's a stretch, that AI music could be traced back to the 1990s. Today, you can find AI music online where you can't really tell if it's made by a real composer or not without proper music training and exposure.
So, if we have "AI images" in place of "AI Art", should we be calling "AI Music" as "AI Sounds"?
Thought I get your opinions on this!

Having Many OCs is a Good Problem to Have
Posted a year agoSo quick life update. I'm on sabbatical and doing lots of side hustles, so there will be less art being uploaded from my end. I've also invested quite a lot of money into getting a new 3d model (for Xiomara, my gigantosaurus babe), so I'm on a tighter budget with commissions.
Having said that, I've always enjoyed how having this many OCs is a good problem to have. Each time you want to get art, you have to decide what OC to use.
Another benefit with having uncommon animal OCs, is you get to connect with new communities of that animal. I get birb, I make birb friends. I get cetaceans, I make new cetacean friends.
