My sweet cat Rosie passed away three days ago. In the morning, she was very weak and unable to stand or walk. She reached the grand age of 20 with kidney disease, arthritis and hyperthyroidism. She was adored by her vet clinic and very loved by me, my family, and everyone who met her.
I knew it was coming within a few weeks because I've been tracking her weight and got recent blood tests which showed her kidney disease progressing fast. It still hurts so much though.

She was my sixth birthday present, and has lived with my mum, my brother and me at different times, depending on our housing situations. Her last few years were here with me. My mum and brother came down for her final vet appointment and we all got to say goodbye to her as she went peacefully. The clinic opened up an hour slot during the staff lunch break just for us.

I've taken this week off streaming to process her passing. Rosie and I lived in a sleepout together, with two of my friends in a house on the same property. My space feels so lonely and empty without her. She was my companion for everything.

Rosie's favourite spots were outside in the garden, and on her heated bed beneath my work desk. It's very quiet without her here anymore. I'm not used to being without an animal companion - I miss kissing her head, stroking her fur, giving her scritchies and massaging her little paws. I miss her gentleness and polite manner. I miss her soft headbutts and wonky old legs. I miss how she'd use me as a pillow to rest her head. I miss talking to her - hello, my darling! Hello, sweet girl. Rosie po, time for dinner! How are you my lovely? Good morning my girl, let me get your breakfast. Sleep well my bubba. I love you.

I feel lost without her but also so grateful for all the time we spent together. I don't remember the last time I cried this much.

As you can see, she was an absolute delight, and I was so blessed to have her companionship for as long as I did.
