So I'm pretty sure it's 2013 across the globe now, I've celebrated it three times myself!
New Year's Resolutions? I have a few;
- Now that I've lost weight I'm determined to keep it off, but also
- To get fit, just enough,
- I want to be more productive with my time
- I want to complete a few personal projects I've been touching
- I want to significantly progress myself as an artist
- I want to try my very best with the new degree this year (which I'll be studying at my dream institution)
If I think of anymore I'll add them, haha!
2012 has been a tough year, with my mate overseas, having to move twice (both for undesirable reasons) and being a bit more ill than usual I'm... glad its over. But it's also been a very good year! I got to meet a lot of new people, some whom I wished I didn't, but a lot I'm very glad I did, I got to visit Japan, the interest in my art has increased and I've had a hell of a lot of fun! Honestly, touch wood, 2013 can only get better. With my mate coming back in a few months, with this new degree, attending my first FurCon, possibly getting a fursuit, maybe a cintiq and having a mothertruckin' job (lawl)... I'm feeling really positive.
And it makes me look back to a time when I wanted nothing other than to disappear, to kill myself, to do away with myself for the sake of others and to escape. Each time I feel like this, so satisfied and optimistic, I give a big middle finger to those thoughts I had. I'm fucking glad I'm here, I'm fucking happy I never gave up and I'm so thankful to all of the people who helped me be strong enough to make it this far - even when my own mind didn't make sense to me, even when I was trapped in this strange fucked up alternate universe full of terrors and anxiety. To anyone and everyone who has been a part of my life, even those who have fucked me around, I thank you. You made me who I am today, and even though I'm far from perfect I'm always trying to be a better person.
But mostly, to all of the people who have been a positive light in my life, however little, thank you. Thank you for helping me to be strong. Thank you for believing in me. Thank you for letting me cry on your shoulder. Thank you for hearing me bitch. Thank you for having fun with me. Just thank you for being you and choosing to spend some of your life with me.
An extra special mention to you know who you all are. You guys, who I honestly love. You are those closest to me in this world and I wouldn't be the same without any of you.
Here's to a great year! I love you all.

Updates, new website + COMMISSIONS

So updates! I ended up having to move out of the awful place I was living and not being in a sound financial position, and it having to be rather last minute as things got very bad quickly, the only place I could move to was back to my parent's place. So I'm here until I can get back on my feet and just sort out the entire shitstorm that has erupted from that living situation.
So I've had this project for a while now. A website.
It's still under construction but all of my Commission Information is there and you can order a quote or a commission from the site!

I'm going to be attending RivFur2013... possibly as a Dealer in the Den (that sounds more suspicious than it should!)!
So currently I'm trying to come up with ideas of things to make/sell.
I have access to a few machines/materials like a laminator, binding machines, hole puncher (like... a drill one... lawl) and a t-shirt press... and there's a place in the city that prints things for CHEAP ;u;
And my Mum also had a look at a Badge Machine for me and they are so reasonably priced! And I've been looking at these ShinHan Art Markers which are a lot cheaper than Copics but still really good quality!
So yeah... stuff is happening :'D

Issues affecting me & Commissions

I don't know how active I'll be online in the next little while. Having a lot of trouble where I live at the moment.
In not-so-short;
- I live with three other people who don't clean up at all,
- I can't use the loungeroom because of mess and stuff they're storing in it,
- I can't use the kitchen because it's completely unsanitary - I'm scared I'd get ill,
- Two of the tenants live in the same room as a couple and their room reaks of stale sweat, rotten food and cat poop - I have to smell it every time I go in and out of my room,
- Other tenants have been moving/tampering with my food and have been unplugging my fridge and freezer,
- Other tenants have interferred with my access to the internet by changing the wireless password, unplugging the modem etc,
- I've been threatened and verbally abused,
- My property has been going missing/being willfully damaged e.g. The only way I get around is by foot, by pushbike or the bus... they took to messing with my access to the property by blocking the driveway and knocking my bike over claiming they'd just tripped on it,
- They caused a flea infestation where my cat, fish and I had to vacate the property for a whole day and I was bitten on several occassions. They didn't think it necessary, apparently, to flea treat, worm and vaccinate their kitten,
- They are causing excessively high power bills that I'm having to help pay to cover,
- They've lied to our Landlady on several occassions when asked about what they've done,
- They've not paid rent on several occassions, back to back, which put stress on me (as the only one paying every fornight without fail) and made it so I couldn't get things in the house repaired or seen to, part their fault, part my Landlady's,
It's been really stressful and I've tried to not let it affect me but it's getting really hard now. It's affecting my studies; I didn't feel confident going to class out of fear they'd mess with my property again (they only first messed with my stuff whilst I was overseas and unable to defend it). My door doesn't have a lock so I can't lock my stuff in my room. I've been to a couple of classes since and they haven't entered my room or anything but they're getting a lot more dangerous with what they're doing - like messing with my food.
So if I'm not active here very much I apologise. I'm having to put data on my phone to access the internet - more money I don't have.
I'd really like to open some sort of emergencey commission thing to help me out - I'm having to eat pre-prepared food and spend a lot of money on phone data so I can still study and I also had to buy my own dishes and cutlery because the communal stuff was never clean. It's put me out a lot of money and I don't want to have to borrow money off my family... I'd rather earn it!
So any suggestions on how I can get some small (I don't think with my study load I'd be able to handle anything too insane) commissions going would be great! I've had a shot at the prepose commission thing and I got one (which was awesome thank you :'D) so I think I might make up a few more of those.
If I start getting commissions I will definitely be active - I won't let this affect potential customers and my ability to communicate with them and deliver them artwork!
But I'm not starving or dieing or anything, admittedly I've not been eating as well as I should be but heck I'm fine :D
Also! Over the last few months I've been aiming to lose approximately 10kg. I used to weigh about 76kg and I'm REALLY proud to say that I beat my weight goal of 65kg by 1kg! I now weigh 64kg! My doctor said to return to her so we can reevaluate my weight - she said the lowest I could go would be 62kg but I look at myself right now and I feel pretty awesome :D
I'm not that selfconscious anymore... but it's really weird being so slim again... I put my hands on my hips and just panic for a second because I feel like I've got nothing left on me XD Not meaning that I'm underweight! Just... in comparison to how my sides used to feel :P
University is getting pretty heavy :'D
I have an assignment that doesn't really have any... well... anything... we were just told to create a portfolio :'D
So that's the news at the moment! Sorry if I seemed to rant there... but it does feel better to get this stuff off my chest and keep you all up-to-date :'D

I'm back! Japan was... amazing... and seeing
kuurifuyutsuki was just... you don't understand how much it meant to us :'3Back to classes tomorrow (bleh) and back into the swing of normal life in Australia... I have to remember to thank people in english, to not bow and that shops over here do not have money trays for me to place my cash or card into when I'm paying... bwahahahaha!
My mate is now visiting his family down south for a few weeks... I... want to go and hang out with them so much XD

My parents purchased my tickets to Japan and back, so I have definite dates. My mate has also booked our accommodation which I am still trying to raise funds for (to pay my half). Your contributions made it possible for me to take luggage over :'D So I'll have clothes and my laptop and tablet <3 <3 THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!
I'll be visiting my family a little bit before I go to spend my 21st with them and to drop off my kitty cat! Then from there it's off to Japan! I'm nervous and excited all at once ;u;
So I'll be gone overseas, as planned, around the 8th and I'll be back later in August... THANK YOU GUYS! I'm still open for commissions! Any further help will still help and will be greatly greatly greatly appreciated :'D
IN OTHER NEWS
I got into a minor car accident the other day... I... was getting a Taxi home and the taxi reversed into someone O_O'
I noped out of the Taxi and called for another. Got home and my NECK UHHHH. So I went to sleep thinking I was just tired and stiff from the day. Next day my neck again, so I went to the doctors and guys.... she pressed all over my neck REALLY hard... and she thought that I might have fractured my spine or something O_O So I'm sitting there thinking whutwhutwhutwhutwhut... but... I got taken in a wheelchair next door to the Hospital to get X-rayed. They checked me out again and I got 3 X-rays... so I was waiting and waiting. OH and I had to lie on my back completely straight staring at the ceiling... it was weird! And then they wanted MORE X-rays of lower down my back because now they were kinda worried too.... so more X-rays and more waiting... I was in there for a good couple of hours.
GOOD NEWS IS I HAVE NOT BROKEN MY SPINE HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Bad news is I have whiplash :/
GOOD NEWS IS IT SHOULD JUST GO ON ITS OWN
Bad news is it may take a week
GOOD NEWS IS THAT A WEEK GIVES ME TIME BEFORE MY TRIP

But really it's ok, the doctor said that I should just take normal painkillers, give it a day, if it gets worse go back. If it doesn't get worse then just let it sort itself out, maybe go to physio if I feel I need to yadayadayada.
So yeah, quite an experience. Never been in a Hospital as a patient for so long XD But the staff there were REALLY REALLY NICE ;u;
I felt safe and happy and didn't really stress out even though I was sitting there still thinking I had a fractured spine XD

So it looks like I'm going to have to delay my trip to see my mate. It's been hard finding out when his Semester actually ends but now we know and this plan actually turns out better and cheaper (and gives me more time to save)! I'm now planning to get over there around the 8th of August after my 21st Birthday. My mate wants to do something special for our visit and figured that Tokyo is a lot more interesting (in the sense of there being more to do) than Hakodate plus it means that I won't have to pay for the flights in between Tokyo and Hakodate (which would have probably cost another $400).
I'm still aiming to save/raise/earn about as much as the accommodation is a little more expensive in Tokyo than it is in Hakodate.
The only real downside to all of this is that I won't be able to spend time with my mate when he comes back to Australia mid-late August because the flights between his family and myself are just too pricey. Which really is more of a reason to make this trip just that more special, as well with the fact that we won't be able to see each other again till the end of the year!

As some fo you may know, my mate
kuurifuyutsuki is away on a year exchange to Japan and has been since late March. Not a long time so far, but when you're with someone all of the time... it feels very weird!I want to visit him, more specifically for our anniversary which is the 4th of July.
The reason this is so last minute... well... It's very hard to work out. You see, our semesters are different and we are also depending on cheap flights. Right now I can get very very reasonable flights. And even then, my parents said that if I get to my primary weight goal of 65kg they will pay for my flights! I'm currently halfway there (70kg... you won't believe what difference 5kg has made!) and my Mum already offered to help me out with the flights.
But there's everything else; luggage, food, accommodation (I have to spend one night in Narita and there's the accommodation whilst I'm with my mate), general spending money, plus I have to fly from the main island to the northern island... which is about as expensive as the uber cheap flights over there!
So I asked my mate how much I should try to save. He said about $1,000 - $1,500.
I only get enough each fornight to cover the essentials. I'm not really in a position to save. I get scholarships around the begining of each semester but both of those from the semester just gone had to go towards paying back my mate for my new laptop (old one was dieing ;__;), vet bills, insurance and buying waterproof and cold weather gear so I can survive in Northern Japan :'D. Out of my whole scholarship money I spent maybe $100 on myself? Most of that being a gift I bought for my mate and I X'D
I'm not asking for donations. Pfft.
I just... really want to see my mate for our anniversary. It'll be our second anniversary... I know, really early days in comparison to other relationships :P
But we're so close... and we're thinking and planning ahead. I'm going to do another Bachelor's degree and he is going to do a Diploma and a Masters degree... maybe even a PhD! He.... actually told me the other day that he's thinking long term :'D

Alealia was already taken by someone who hasn't been online in well over a year :'D

Posted 13 years agoSo the last time I submitted anything was here at the end of February... and it's April now!
So I thought I should make a Journal and... say hi?
The deal is, this is my last year of this degree so that means it's uber busy! I'm doing an Illustration Folio class, a bookmaking/printing class and a modelling/animation class... very busy D:
And to boot,
kuurifuyutsuki started his exchange to Japan which has been very stressful and continues to be.
I have things to post, obviously by my drawing subjects, but it took me a long while to get into a decent routine and plan my time...
So Uni is definitely sorta my priority now :P
I hope to upload the stuff I've been doing in class maybe today or tomorrow! I've had 2 really big assessments in the last 3 days due ._.' and they were both peer assessed... which is a lot of fun >_>'
I find it easy to submit my work here, to the masses, and talk about it. But put me in a class with about 15 people and ask me to talk about my work and BAM... I start twiddling my hands and looking down a lot and just stand there going 'Yeah umm yeah what else do I have to say?' And I think I look mad when people critique my work but I'm not, I just get really nervous when I have to talk about what I do!
Also, would you guys be able to give me a hand with something?
So we have to identify our style. Now, I didn't really think I have one but my Lecturer seems to think so. He thinks my work (though really he's only seen my mainly traditional class work stuff) is quirky and has a weird humour to it and is full of happy accidents... I'll upload my class work either to here or to tumblr so you can see the work he's talking about but... yeah I don't get it.
So I guess I'd like to know, what I do that others do and how do I do it differently? And what do I do uniquely, if I do anything unique :P
It's hard to look at my own work and point out things because what I do is... normal to me? Because it's what I do?
Anyway, it'd be really cool if you guys could maybe point things out? Like, is there anything that makes my work mine? Anything that when you see my work you think/know 'Oh that's Jak(010891)'s/Alealia's work!' Or even work that you think looks like mine? I'd love some perspective on that and also it would really help with the reports I have to do on my own work XD
Ummm so yes! I want to be more active, I've still been floating around looking at art and commenting in my spare time, but I want to be posting things XD

Also I've spoken to those that are concerned with Commission(s) from me, I'm glad we could talk and that you're so understanding :'D
I'm not going to Close Commissions because if the Commission is small/quick enough for me then I'll happily accept the job/money :P. But anything large/time consuming will have to be put on hold/done bit by bit. I also work from inspiration, I try to get commissions and my personal art finished asap but if I don't feel inspired I don't want to do a crappy job just to get it out... because that wouldn't do the piece, the commissioner, me or my skills justice! And it really wouldn't be worht the time/effort/money in the end!
Also I'm going to be trying to get my own site up. As I'm going to be Graduating soon I'll need something purely professional (or as professional as I can get :P) and I've already had people last year asking to see my stuff/to get into contact with them after I graduate XD
Which is a really nice feeling considering one of them is someone whose work I really admire! :D
Um what else? I don't know. Easter is soon. Want to do something for that despite the fact that I am terrible for getting such pieces done on time XD

Xmas Update II
Posted 14 years agoSo! Christmas is over for another year!
The day was ok, presents were great and the food was yummy.
We took my Grandparents to the Airport the day after Boxing Day and sent them on their way. There were a lot of disagreements whilst they were here and after they left with both family here and back in the UK. It's not been the most pleasant or enjoyable Christmas ^_^'
But I'm over it! Over trying to sort out or reason with adults and over getting stressed out because they can't act maturely!
So I've been a bit behind on everything! And I must apologise for letting my Tumblr get into such ... a state ... I've just found out that you can make different pages! So maybe I can shift all of the random stuff I find funny or cool onto a different page and leave my art on the main page!
I only found out a few days ago, though, that my parents have a scanner! I've been taking photos of my work on my phone like a mug! So hopefully I will be able to scan in my purty sketchbook I've been working in and show you all ^_^' (on Tumblr ... if anything is complete enough I'll post it here too!)
I've realised that if I work in a nice sketchbook I work harder ... to not waste the expensive book! So this particular sketchbook is A4 and hardback and cost me $20 (with a lovely discount ... I think it was originally closer to $30)! And guess what? I really think I've been drawing better!
And there's a whole bunch of paper left over from when my parents owned and ran a copy/print/design business ... and Dad gave me this really lovely paper to draw on >u<
Apparently I can have as much paper as I like and I really can't wait to get my lightbox home (a friend of the family gave it to me when he moved/divorced)! AND my parents said that I can have their binders, binding, laminator and laminating sheets :D
We'll just have to work out how to get it back home :P
Right now my cat ... is sitting ... watching me ... she's so adorable!!!! <3
It's the 29th today ... I can't wait until the 10th January! Which is when I'll be flying down south to spend some time with kuurifuyutsuki and his family :D I will miss my little kitty, but she's in good hands here with my parents! (Better than the possibility of getting eaten by his family's dogs :P)
Right now I'm re-scripting a comic commission from a turn based RP story, planning out the pages, sketching the pages ... it's more work than I thought ^_^' And I'm also trying to design myself a new logo/watermark AND get my site up and running with a resume and portfolio ... but at least I'm keeping occupied!
So not much else to say really! Having a little bit of a hard time back at my parent's place but hey, that's life :P
Hope you all had a great Christmas! I didn't even think of finishing that Pokemon Christmas sketch I did a while ago! ... maybe I should do that to be festive! Better late than never! Though I did draw something rather beautiful, if I do say so myself, and very festive for a good friend of mine ;)

XMAS UPDATE
Posted 14 years agoSo I've been at my parent's place for nearly a week, my Nana and Granddad are over from the UK. Before then my partner and I had the task of moving myself into his old room and cleaning the whole house so he could get his bond back. I've had little to no internet access since I've been here.
So, the Art Challenge? It unfortunately got put aside ... Despite the fact that I have been drawing XD
So ... expect a bit of a dump over on Tumblr.
But I don't know if I'll be able to continue. My family and I are quite different. Being here is quite boring, uninspiring and lacks stimulation. In short, my brain is melting. I'm trying my best to keep afloat ... University hit my creativity hard enough so it is a little hard to recover in such an environment.
Being here, I cannot believe that I used to live like this;
Get up, sit in front of the TV, eat breakfast, eat lunch, eat dinner (all while watching TV), go to bed late. Repeat.
My parents and I also clash quite badly sometimes, especially now with the way my mother is acting/feeling. I love my Grandparents, they're great. But they're bored too. And as a bonus, it's very hot and my parents do not have air-conditioning. My Grandparents struggle quite a bit and I completely die in the heat.
But I'm fine ... though if you see me online don't be shy to drop me a message! Or a comment, or shout, or tweet ... kuurifuyutsuki was keeping me company here but he left early to spend Christmas with his family. So that means that I am quite lonely ^_^'
I find myself counting down the days until the 10th January (when I shall fly to meet my partner at his family's home) instead of Christmas.
Though I feel cheated. I was told by my mother that this would be the last time my Grandparents would be visiting and the only Christmas we will ever have again (unless I go back to the UK). And we haven't had Christmas together in years (the last few years they have visited they left before Christmas) ... but now it turns out (according to my Grandparents) that they just won't be visiting at this time of the year ever again because its just too hot.
So, I think my mother guilt tripped me to stay here ...
She asked me multiple times 'Are you sure you don't want to leave earlier? Be with kuurifuyutsuki before he goes to Japan?' And I always replied 'Yeah, but I'll never see Nana and Granddad again. I want to see them for as long as I can.' And she agreed. She never fixed her lie.
And now it's too late. It'll cost a few hundred dollars to change the flight and I don't want kuurifuyutsuki to pay that ... I also want to be here as long as I can for my cat, Squeak. I'm afraid she won't be looked after as well as I do by my family. Specifically my mother. Though my Dad has a soft spot for her ...
Hmmmm, this is getting kind of long.

I've had to have some time to myself, just for myself, and Skyrim.
I've been art bummed and not really wanting to come back onto dA or FA, maybe seeing other people's work would have made me feel worse?
But hell, I've dropped back to tell you guys that I'm doing an Art Challenge to try and bust out some art.

BUT! I have some news ... some updates!!
A little while ago I may or may not have mentioned that my eye was really sore and swollen. kuurifuyutsuki did a little search online and we figured that I had a blocked tear duct. All you really have to do for that is massage it and it should unblock itself. I noticed it first when we were having a belated birthday dinner with his Grandparents and a friend. It only got worse. It got REALLY swollen and sore so he booked me in with the doctor asap. She reckoned it was an infected eyelash follicle. Ew XD. She had a try at plucking the eyelash she thought was having issues to try and relieve the infection. Nothing came out so she prescribed me some antibiotics and said to come back in 48 hours because infections around the eye are taken very seriously. Throughout the day my eye got a lot better, coincidence or not I was no longer having any trouble with it. I didn't take any antibiotics nor did I go back a second time. She told me that if it got better then I could cancel. It's fine now ... so I'm hoping that it just sorted itself out. I'm not experiencing anything out of the norm so ... let's just go with that :P
I also have some great news on the employment front! A small print/copy/design place I applied to at the start of the year told me that they may be getting work at the end of the year but a position would definitely be opening beginning of next year as one of their staff members is leaving the city. At that point I was the most qualified person to have applied -lol- so I went back to check up on the position. The lady who owns the business had penciled it into her Diary to call me at the start of November anyway for training! So soon I will be getting trained so I can commence working there when I get back at the start of next year! And until then?
A good friend put a word in where he works, a sign writer business, and I dropped a resume in the week before last. The owner is really nice, she asked me about my experience -which is none!- and when I could work. So ... I did 3 shifts last week and got my pay today! It's really hot work there, only the office is airconditioned, and it's pretty ordinary stuff but at the same time it's interesting to see how the signs I see every day are made! And it's nice to think that I would have helped make some! (Even though up until now all I've made is warning signs for Mines ... which will be blown up ;-;)
Plus, it's pretty easy money and the staff there are really friendly! It's really nice to be able to put some money away to save! :)
University is coming to a close, classes are over but there are still assignments due! I have two which are as of now overdue ... a photography portfolio and an Industry Research Report with Professional Case Studies ... AND a Digital Story due at the end of the week ;-;'
The Portfolio I just haven't been able to think up anything for ... at all ... until a couple of days ago, but the idea was too much to get done in a couple of days. And it's not just the photos, we have to do up an example of where the photos would appear (magazine, newspaper, book, advertisement etc) and do a 1500 word writeup! I'm not much of a photographer and struggled to write 500 words in the past about my photographs ... :S
And to top it all off ... I have no idea what story I am going to tell for my Digital Story XD
But I'll be FINE ... kuurifuyutsuki is helping me out HEAPS and we got a lot of my Report done over the past few days!
Hmm ... I stopped half way through writing this to go to bed ... and now I can't remember what else I was going to say.
Ah well! If I remember it later then I'll update this Journal ... if not, it must have been a lie :P

University this semester is REALLY heating up! Everything is due over the next fortnight!
AND! I have a job starting next Tuesday with my friend, Tal, who put in a good word for me with the boss. Things are getting hectic there and they are temporarily losing staff ... so in comes me!
Also, I definitely have a position at a little design/copy/print place just around the corner for next year! I start training in November and then start the job when I come back!
Come back from where? My grandparents are visiting again and this time are staying for Christmas so I will be heading up to my parent's place with kuurifuyutsuki, he'll leave before Christmas to spend it with his family and then I'll be following him end of December/early January! I shall be returning home mid/late January.
Then kuurifuyutsuki flies over to Japan for his exchange in March! Please keep me company and sane! XP
Other than that ... yeah! Even though a job means less time for artsin and fartsin and study ... it DOES mean money and getting out of the house and picking up some possibly useful skills and references! I may actually be able to reasonably afford my fursuit ... and everything else on my wishlist! (Which really should be renamed 'Dreaming List' ... cos I'm DREAMING if I think I'll be lucky enough to tick everything off it XD)
OMFG BUT I ORDERED SOME BOOKS AND BOUGHT SOME IN STORE AND 2 HAVE BEEN ON THERE WAY FOR A FEW DAYS AND ONE THAT IS VERY RARE AND AWESOME HAS JUST BEEN SHIPPED TO ME BY A VRY SXC INDIVIDUAL FFFFFFFF <3<3
So yes ... I will be getting VERY busy but hopefully I will be able to manage my time more wisely and still have enough energy for artsin! I'm sure I could do it and still fit some fartsin in there! :D
