General | Posted 10 years agoHaving undergo very recently some dentist woes myself (which literally costed me Christmas, but oh well, credit is there anyways :p )
My old buddy from Canadaland is having some issues, he is doing some emergency commissions, please consider giving him a hand (I mean seriously, tooth ache is terrible), he is a very cool dude :)

Unity Game Development
General | Posted 10 years agoWell, its been more than a year since I posted a journal, and even though I am sure not a lot of people will actually read this, I want to say a lot of things have happened since my last entry, I changed jobs (Behaviour turned out to be somewhat of a hell job, even though I got the chance to work in Fallout Shelter, the crunch time and the lack of actual care for the part of the employer was enough for me to be very unhappy with the job), Got a nice new home, cats are happy with the big patio and I have an awesome view to the mountains, its been good really! I have been even wanting to draw some more as of late!
But something that hasnt changed at all is how much time I spend everyday in front of the pc coding, I enjoy coding a lot and I take it very seriously, I been meaning to make furry related games for a while but it is a lot of dedication! I made a casino related game, it is a fun game if you want to check it out: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.PaulinaGames.Slots01&hl=en
Besides that I been working very hard on my tools, if any of you is a game developer using unity, I think it would interest you: https://www.assetstore.unity3d.com/en/#!/content/38637
Willing to give free copies of it to my fellow furry game developers, send me a note if you are interested :)!
Besides all that, I been good, but not quite accomplished yet, whether is because I cant finish a game due to the demanding art side of things or simply because the passion goes away before the game finishes. But I still have that burning sensation I am going to make something thats going to be what makes me very happy. I count on it.
Well thanks for reading! also.. do you have a game idea? do you need a programmer? maybe you can help me achieve my goal :)

Semester is almost over.
General | Posted 11 years agoAnd the whole experience of being a teacher was one of the most rewarding things I have done in a while.
I cant wait for the next semester, to teach another course. In the meantime I will be working on some contracts and eventually (if all goes well) finally visit home after 6 long years.
2014 is by far the best year ever :)

Update - Lots of game dev!
General | Posted 12 years agoHello,
I been working a lot as of late, I finished a game for a contract, the game is an angry birds clone, and I am not very happy with the art, but the client insisted in doing the art, check that game out here if you feel like: https://play.google.com/store/apps/......angryjanitors
Right after that gig, I was put into making an in house game, I was given some choices about what to work on and the end result was "Critter Craze", a match 3 game with some fun mechanics! please do check this one out and rate if you can, I would be very happy: https://play.google.com/store/apps/.....e.crittercraze
The game is currently out for Android but the iphone/ipad release will come soon, so for you apple furs! hang in there! :)
So much game dev as of late! there's one last thing I wanted to share, one of my friends,
gade was working along with a team to make some furry related rpg game, they recently created an Steam greenlight page, you can check them out here!: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfil...../?id=199794384
The concepts look awesome as well as the sprites, I cant wait to be "indie enough" (economically stable lol) to work in that kind of games, right now I have plans to work with some of my old college friends back in Chile (Animators) and we might make a game like that next year, I will definitively share more about that once it becomes something.
As for art coming from me, I am very sorry guys, I just have been very intense about programming and I dont find that drive I used to have about drawing, coding looks prettier to me nowadays.
Well, that's all, I hope you have a great December!

POSITIVITY
General | Posted 12 years agoIs that a word? I think so~
Okay! lets start from that point, "being positive", so we know we all have problems and some of them with no real easy/immediate solution or any solutions at all! these problems might drill into our heads and not allow us to continue living our lives how we liked to.
But at some point we need to think about "why", why is that such a problem, why is it affecting me, why can't I move on?, putting that and many other whys in perspective will allow you to better understand the root of the problem. To give you a bit of an example, back in the day my biggest why was "Why am I gay", dark times in my life indeed!
The funny thing is that "little problem" was all what used to bother me at that point in my life, and now looking back at it, it wasn't a problem at all, but the fact remained. I didn't find an answer to my why until I met Ruick, but because of the fact that I couldn't find a why I decided to simply say "fuck it", when a problem doesn't have that visible solution you just need to accept it, be conscious about it and go on, being sad or desperate can take a lot of time out of our lives, and we don't have much time to waste.
Focus on problems you can solve, but don't let the ones you can't solve define you, being positive is not something that comes naturally, do it because you are stubborn, or because you are strong, or because there's nothing else you can do to make things better.
Be positive, it sounds better than being sad, and we all need goals!

Move
General | Posted 12 years agoWe are installed in the new place, cats were crazy the first day but now they are comfy and happy with the place since it has a carpet :)
Internet (obviously) has been installed, and everything else that was extremely important has been brought, we have a few things to bring from the old place but we got 9 days to do so, no rushes.
Now that I been working in a small game studio I realize I want to be independent, there's never pleasing me lol, but making games that are kind of lame (in my opinion) kind of kills my drive to code... I will have to do the indie on the side though, for I need this job :)
As a side note,
butaroboar is moving to my city to study at Algonquin college (where I graduated from), he might be moving in since I live right by the college, that's gonna be awesome :p
Take care you all, thanks for reading!

Pay Day
General | Posted 12 years agoHey guys, how's it going? Awesome I hope~
Remember the sweet gig I got back in April in a local game studio? Well! I have passed the "intern" phase and now I am finally getting paid for the hardwork.
They gave me one of their projects to do. I am doing the experimental stuff, I am making use of Haxe (an awesome Java like language) to do cross platform development, for the past month or so, and since this is considered "experimental" they get awesome benefits from the government, aren't they nice? I love you Ontario~
With the money Ruick is going to be able to go visit his sister back in his hometown, and he wont have to take a bus, nope (he hates buses...), he is flying (cause he is crazy like that... I hate flying). The occasion is our nephew's baptism (meh), too bad I can't go and congratulate the sister in law in person... so much work to do!
In conclusion, awesome stuff, and to top it off, I am going to take a 2 months vacation to Chile after this project, around in November, finally get to see grandma after 6 years <3

Random Video!
General | Posted 12 years agoI made a random video, a friend of mine was doing some vlogging and I decided to give it a go, I failed miserably but it doesn't really matter. I will probably make a habit of this, cause it was fun... and also to show a brief portion of my life.

A little Update on the job
General | Posted 12 years agoWell, the first week (well 3 days) is over, I got brainwashed with apple and objective C and their small and annoyingly silent keyboards (I love loud keyboards, feels more powerful to code! >=D)
It has been awesome, everyone is very understanding on me being "the new guy", my programmer lead is very useful at guiding and encouraging me to pick up Objective C very fast.
Also I noticed how much easier is to just wake up everyday feeling motivated, it might be silly, but I can't wait for Monday :p
To sum it up, Macs are not so bad/Job is going great. Also would like to thank everyone of you guys who said something encouraging/nice/supportive to me, in my entire time here, it just made it much easier to make it here! Also to the ones who didn't say anything but wanted to, thank you for keeping me in your thoughts =]
More on the job later on, have a great weekend everyone!

To make it into the game industry
General | Posted 12 years agoI have been trying to get employed as a game developer for some time now, and I can see a trend that goes like this: in order to make it in, you have to know someone in, or have some amazing portfolio piece and a lot of games under your name.
Well! I don't know many that are in a position to give me an interview, and I do not have a personal webpage to showcase my stuff, but I am tired of not being taken seriously about my skills in game development, I am not the greatest but I do know how to code for my experience in the field.
I will be creating a bunch of old school games because I was told that I should for portfolio, also I was told that it should not take me more than a week, but I am sure I can have them all done in less than 2 days, tonight I made pong, that was good 2 hours (initially 40 minutes, but added score and not impossible to beat AI), Also, I am going to be getting my shit together and make a proper webpage with my name on it.
I am kind of pissed at how things are going right now, but I am sure I will be able to make it, after all, I know that if I put my mind into something there's only time in between me and my goal.
How are you doing anyways?

Best Job Ever
General | Posted 13 years agoHey guys,
So I landed this awesome Job as the first TA (Teacher's assistant) ever to be hired in this college, the job is demanding and I have to be able to help a lot of students, which is fun!
only bad thing is that I am going to be getting only 6 hours a week till the end of the semester, this is not so bad since the pay is a whooping 20 bucks and hour. I am so happy :U
Next semester I am looking to get 20+ hours a week, plus working on my own projects which hopefully will get me some more revenue.
Yep, 2012 is going to end with an awesome feeling, ease of mind and soul.

Game Update 10/11/2012
General | Posted 13 years agoBad news, I have decided to freeze operations on the project until I can get a proper team to aid me in the art fort, it is simply too much art that I can't bare.
Now for the good news! I have been going hard on learning to make games with Flash Develop, so expect some quick games posted here in my gallery as soon as I get the full hand of it.
I will resume my work with my game once some cash is made to support a local artist.
My job at the college is fantastic, I love to teach and help! Take care everyone~

General | Posted 13 years agoGame Update 27/10/2012
General | Posted 13 years agoI been busy, but this shit is coming along, and I like it, so yeah!
here is the vid:
https://youtu.be/GZaCwSwlxVw
It is all about water skills, been working hard on coding all these skills, but now having to do the graphics have been very tasking, they are coming slowly but surely, I finished the Earth/Wind/Arcane spells in code, so not much to do besides art!
I also added an aim helper, this made the combat 100 times more strategic, something I was very worried about, since the combat was like playing Sona (if you don't know what I mean, I am sorry, ask and I will tell you).
So!
ruick has been awesome and did this: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/9126516/
now that... that's beautiful, that's epic, and it was amazing to see how he turned from a frustrated burr trying to put pixels together into a "should I add more details here? change the color there? mmm" awesome sauce man, I am so happy, thanks a lot hubby <3
That's it, I am probably not going to make a vid for next week, that's because I am trying to get a demo together to show very soon, still, thanks a lot to the guys that have shown support, you guys are few but I really really appreciate it, and if you have not said anything yet don't be shy, I would love to hear your opinions and ideas or feelings, otherwise I wouldn't make these weekly updates.
You all rock, ba bai~

Game Update 20/10/2012
General | Posted 13 years agoHey guys, sorry no video this week! the reason for this is because I have been coding the skills, and I really don't want to show you guys half implemented graphics, plus it is kind of a time waster at the end, since I did not do art this week, I was able to code all the water and wind skills, as well as some earth skills.
I have implemented a buff/debuff/on hit effect/ on getting hit effect/on casting/ on weapon swing system (phew that was long), so now I can do some more interesting stuffs like throw spikes when I get hit, make explosions when I attack, life steal, etc.
I made some concept art, it is in my gallery right now, and Ruick has been working on the item icons and it has been amazing to see him improve in such a short time frame, here's what he posted recently, with the first left row going downwards being one of his first works to the last row going downwards being the most recent:
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/9076042/
Having him do art has been amazing, it is just that much fun when we both working together in the same room, makes all this hard work worth it 1000 times more <3
And lastly, I will be presenting the first demo of the game to a local monthly game jam called "The Dirty Rectangles", this will happen in November 21, giving me about enough time to bring a small demo together, wish me luck!
Remember to follow me in twitter for the in between updates I tend to give: https://twitter.com/JakeTBear

Game Update 13/10/2012
General | Posted 13 years agoEvery time Saturday arrives I feel like I achieved so little during the week, but meanwhile I am on it it feels like I have done so much, it's a weird feeling... Still, yesterday I went out with the BurrCoon to sushi, Made me happy and I felt like I could keep going =].
So onto the game!
This week was all about fire skills, it was supposed to be also all about water skills, but I didn't even touch them at all, for some reason I just didn't have the time~
This week video showcasing the WIP (yes, works in progress, the basic functionality is there but the graphics are not correct in most of them):
https://youtu.be/0In0V-2ZJyc
marurun has been very helpful delivering sweet animations, even though the only new enemy I included in this week update is the bee, he has been doing some other sweet enemies, including an archer version of the raccoon as well a bat (I love that bat!), those I will hopefully show next week.
As you can see now the enemies spawn, they are now attached to a timer event that starts ticking if they die, so now I can control, when and where they spawn, muhahahaha (evil smirk).

So onto the game!
This week was all about fire skills, it was supposed to be also all about water skills, but I didn't even touch them at all, for some reason I just didn't have the time~
This week video showcasing the WIP (yes, works in progress, the basic functionality is there but the graphics are not correct in most of them):

marurun has been very helpful delivering sweet animations, even though the only new enemy I included in this week update is the bee, he has been doing some other sweet enemies, including an archer version of the raccoon as well a bat (I love that bat!), those I will hopefully show next week.As you can see now the enemies spawn, they are now attached to a timer event that starts ticking if they die, so now I can control, when and where they spawn, muhahahaha (evil smirk).
