Well, at least I got my laptop back after mom needed to borrow it there for a day or so, but, now I'm feeling like I won't pass out from sweating at least, so, capitalise while I can

Only thing I'm more unhappy about feeling bleh is missing out on time with Leslie, what is this, not even one month and already having to skip doing things with her, although I did promise at least I'd help her with her homework and stuff over here, just means I need to get out of my PJs and shower for all

But yeah, everything up until I got sick last weekend was pretty damn fun, I went in on the whole Oath of the Gatewatch thing, I went in damn hard on this set

Sadly was not rewarded with any awesome cards personally, but the fun was definitely there as the collective might of our little store fought back against the eldrazi hordes and the newly arisen threat of Kozilek, the butcher of truth, distorter of worlds

Yeah, this guy I've talked about plenty of times in prior journals about being my absolute jam when it comes to eldritch horror, I got a nice slice of it last week's Official Magic Fiction watching the effects left in his wake on a bunch of bystanders who think they've managed to avoided the titan

Sadly did not get to meet the big guy in person, either in my own cards, nor on the battlefield, but, I guess we've still got next month for Game Day to see if I can square off against the big bad =o

But I DID at least manage to score a card that does ominously call out for a meeting in future...

This card was a nice score considering it's one of the biggest in the set price-wise- actually, when I look at what I got, I didn't get anything 'flashy', but I think I got pretty good value, between this, two Thought-Knot and a promo Thought-Knot for a third, that's like nearly 90 bucks in four cards =o

The midnight through Saturday run was a grind, especially when it got to the Saturday tag team event, turned out my alotted partner did not accept any we'd had, so we went with his out of purely not wanting an argument over that, lol, so, for Saturday, I was a member of Team "Mana Screw You" =P

Aaaaaaand, well, it wasn't great, I went 2 wins, 2 losses, then had to end on the final game with a drop, due to agreed tiredness and ill success of our combinations =o Hell, one of our wins was the other team being nice to avoid us both losing our prize pack to a draw


At least? It let me get practise for the next day when I took  Tryst's suggestion and Leslie and me set up shop as Team "Dead Planeswalkers Society"

Luckily, with my cast and crutches, I got an allotted seat, so no need to worry about her having to move in a crowded comic book store filled with massive sweaty guys, they came to our table to play each round and all went well =D (Apart from like one guy who kicked my cast, but, less said better XP)

Speaking of? Leslie, well... geez >_>

...Is it wrong for me to be jealous of my Lil Sister, lol?

She got not one, but TWO Nissa Planeswalker cards in her pool, one as her promo card with the stamped date and everything, and another as one of the packs she had to build from =O

So, yeah, not only that? But in another pack, she pulled an EXPEDITION CARD


TLDR is that Expedition cards are really rare cards that Wizards stuffs into random packs, not quite Wonka golden ticket level, but near enough, as people scrabble for them

So, yeah, her packs were just gold <_<

So she pulled a Dust Bowl that I used in my side of the pool, but afterwards, we talked about it and she had fun, we ended up going 2 wins, 2 draws and a loss, so, at least a lil better than the prior day and she had fun with me there to help her =B

I passed her my promo card Mina and Denn and she made a wicked lil landfall deck that went all out on swinging cards sideways and just being all aggro

So yeah, we talked and she had fun, but she isn't going to full on get into Magic, maybe just play me every once in a while, lol, she'll keep the deck she built and work on that =D

So there was STILL the matter of the expensive card... and we decided the best thing to do was talk to one of the store guys who has a well-known cube, ended up selling it to him for shy a hundred bucks =B

WITH the agreement she puts half of it away in her bank for savings and the other half she's free to buy books or such as she wants, yay for adult responsibility?

All in all, I dunno if I'm a fan of the team format, it gets a bit too grindy, but it let me share the thing with Leslie, so for that pretty thankful =3

Now I just gotta get better in time to draft some of this new set on Friday~ And I'll see you all again shortly =3

It's FINALLY over! =D After months of setbacks, back to back drama, injuries, general doldrum and work, I never thought the DfD list would be completed, but finally the list is completed! Everyone's had their slots filled and now, finally, the only ones left are the big Thank You slots that I offered as an apology to everyone who went and waited so long for me to catch up on myself

It feels like it took an eternity and I'm sorry how long it took, but, really I'm just glad to finally give you guys what you waited for and hope that I can have your last thank you pics finished shortly, although, they MAY be sporadic as I still play around, lol

I'm happy to say that this is well timed to boot, with Magic Prerelease weekend sneaking up on me once more for the brand new set, Oath of the Gatewatch, so, I'm jiggering about all my work schedules and clearing my whole weekend to play some cardboard crack!

And dear sweet unholy Eldritch lords of the unknown it looks glorious~

I dunno how much I wanna geek out about it here, lol, this is really just me talking some stuff and all, sooooo, topic switch!

I'm happy to say that things went well enough with my weekend meeting with Leslie there, it was a little more formal, getting to know her family situation and all, admittedly it got a little heavy in a few places, but, I can understand a little better where she comes from now and maybe why she's a little quieter and all

It really was more about checking lists than anything else, we had a sit down with the agency, talked about what kind of support we were there to offer and so on, make sure she's comfortable and make sure that if there IS anything she ever feels uncomfortable that she can't talk to me, Leslie knows she has someone over me who she can go to

Truth be told it wasn't all that great, but, I DID promise after sitting through all the stupid that we would do something fun, sooooo, I said diet be damned and took her for some junk food and a movie, of course, lol, Star Wars, Les apparently has never seen any of the original movies, but, knows most of the gist thanks to pop culture and such

Despite that, it was a fun enough movie and she had plenty fun, word is that the Agency will give us random tickets and such for movies or events and things, so I don't need to worry about breaking the budget often to have fun stuff for us to do =D

ANNNNNNND looping all the way back around? I decided to ask Les if she'd fancy trying out Magic aaaaaand yes, she's gonna give the old college try, lol, so, I've got like a day or two this week to give her a hit the ground running crash course in the basics

The GOOD news is that Prereleases are like the best places for new folks to start playing since it's as fun and non-competitive as Magic can get, the GREAT news is that with this prerelease it's a special format, TWO HEADED GIANT, basically we're running on tag team mode, lol, which means that instead of the whole normal thing that you open a set of packs and build a mini-deck from that, we'll both be opening our packs and build one each, plan is I help her build something easy like Green/White or Green/Red, ramp into big beatsticks, while I hopefully cover her and make a Control-style Esper deck to take out the opponents critters and keep their offensive spells off our backs

I'm not planning on throwing her in the deepend, lol, I don't plan to ask her to be there all weekend, so, the Sunday one, I'll ease up, hang a little with her in the morning, get some grub and then take her to the card store and introduce her to the geek crowd

If she can have fun and we get to share the hobby, that's great, worse case scenario, we divebomb, I promise ice cream afterwards and get to do fake smack talk about how bad we got beat, lol

So! Busy week ahead, gotta get myself ready for this weekend long nerd enduance test (nerdurance test?), help Leslie get the basics down, and make sure I don't swamp her with this all at once XD

So, whoo! All is well on this side, I feel happy that a weight's been lifted, even got to do some writing that had been on the backburner for a while, so, self-indulgent writing, buuuuuut, maybe that's where I find my feet again, watch this space I guess <3

Why the heck did we start off with this one?

Iunno, I certainly had my share of concerns recently, a grown woman hanging out with an unrelated kid, it makes me feel like I could suddenly be under the looking glass again over me taking part in the Big Sister program and getting flagged or something over suspicions XP

I wasn't sure how ready I was, or if I'd do a good enough job as a Big Sister, but, I'm happy to report, that yesterday I got to meet Leslie for the first time and we got off well enough to a good start =B


I met her after her school and, although she wasn't sure what to expect, I'm not the hardest person to miss in a crowd and we got to talking, she's plenty curious, if a little shy and reserved, thank lord for my injury count for being an ice breaker, lol

ALSO, inadvertantly I ended up bringing a conversation starter to boot, it was a Wednesday, so, I had already visited the comic book store on the way over and got my comics, she's more a book girl, but she asked about what I was looking at

THANK LORD Marvel is now offering more female and kid friendly titled lines >_>;;; I seriously doubted I wanted to share Saga or Rat Queens with her just yet - spoilers from later: I REALLY didn't wanna share Saga with her - but luckily, I'd gotten issue 2 of Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur =B She digged the way it looked, so I yanked up my app from Comixology and she checked out the first issue while we sat on the swings at the park, we hung out and chatted a lil, hit the Museum and checked out some of the stuff, apparently she's a repeat visitor, lol, but she seemed to enjoy the goofing about as we chatted about the stuff there =B

I still dunno if I've cracked much of Leslie's shell, but she seems comfortable enough to have fun with me and we'll keep having visits, now I just gotta come up with some fun activities to share with her! =D

So, there you go! All is well and I hope to give Leslie plenty chances to have fun and just enjoy being a kid =B

Hey all~

Well, the year is nearly out and nearly a week on from the infamous underwear drawer incident, I'm starting to have more coherent thought functions once more, lol

I am sad that I couldn't clear the DfD list out by year's end, but I AM happy to see how much progress I've been making of recent compared to like, the last few months of embarrassment >_>

Bleh, struggling for words on this one, I think I've all but for the sword out and thrust myself on it in apologies so far, I'm sorry if this sounds whining, but, I do want to list a big sorry to everyone who donated and waited so long for me and life to let up >_>

2016 is gonna be a big year, next week I get to meet my Little Sister and good LORD I'm hoping I don't mess this up for the poor kid

Her name's Leslie and I won't say much about her, lol, for one, I dunno whether or not the agency would frown on that, but I'll say that apparently she's a bit of a bibliophile, so, yay for non-strenuous activity we can share without danger of bodily harm, lol?

Now I just need to catch up on my own reading some to keep up >> I doubt that my current library would be approved reading list

Speaking of harmless activities? I decided that although I haven't been actively buying Magic boosters, my collection had become untidy and the current system wasn't quite working, soon, while I was stuck in bed, I convinced Jeri to hand me all the boxes in the cabinet and set to reorganising them

The good old splitting them up into simply their colors wasn't quite doing it anymore as I discovered more and more that I was struggling to find things as the piles got bigger and bigger to search through

So, I now have one box only focusing on Standard (In Season) cards that I now have split up by the sets, then colors, then numerical/alphabetical orders =B

Also means it's going to be easier from now on when a set rotates out that I can more easily move the cards out no longer active into the other part of the collection

Also makes it easier for me to see multiples of any one card, so I can decide whether to give it as trade material or just give it to kids at the store =B

...And also meant that once again Jeri shook her head in disbelief at how in the process of tidying this up, how I transformed every surface within reach to hold different piles until I could reassemble them correctly once more, lol, at one point even asking if I wanted some alone time with the cards

Well, I tucked them away after that, and while the 'non-standard' pile is far higher than the standard one, I am happy to say that at least I made a good dent in that and I no longer have to look at cards that were piling up on bedside tables and such =3

Yeeesh, that went on for a lot longer than I wanted to write about it, but I guess it's been what I've been working on and fresh in my head

I also decided whilst strapped down to finally check out Undertale and see how many feels I could have

It was nice, lol, I dunno how much more I can say past that, without gushing even more, I will say it got teary near the end and I do need to get a copy of the soundtrack soon-ish

I'm also squeeing inside at the prospect of returning Steven Universe episodes, so, yay~

Fandoms aside, we all know what's next =B

Resolutions!!!

I guess I should be saving at least one resolution for the next Magic set (since that set is ABOUT declaring an oath and all~)

However, I think I'm making my resolution for next year, that I am going to draw more, with me having been practising with Sai, you may even see some colored pics sneaking into my gallery soon! =D

In doing so, I wanna try and streamline and become more practised again, maybe even open up DfDs more periodically in smaller doses so they're more manageable and I can use that to help take my Little Sister on awesome outings and such =B

But more importantly? Finishing the work I have outstanding, and returning to some neglected works in addition

With one final resolution in particular I wanna hold to

From now on? Any donor I offer a doodle to? I wanna make a benchmark, that any art owed, I'll promise within a month most of the request being made to finish it in =B

This way, I'm looking to avoid any such horrid mess like the last DfD was

I'll make a few more resolutions, some more private and hushed between Jeri and me, but I would like to make the most of 2016 =D

So, here's to you guys, for friendship, support and patience, without which, I dunno if I could have made it through the year as well I had

And here's to a new year full of hopeful prospects, new projects, old projects being completed and more importantly, fun to be had =B

Probly shoulda used it since the top one kinda makes a misleading statement

Yes, you guessed it, the last journal may have been a declaration too soon, since I didn't QUITE survive Xmas uncasted, for you see, keen as I was to get things done, I decided I'd pack away as much of my presents as possible to avoid having to do it the next day

And thus I quickly learned a poor lesson in proper desk management, or rather, what happens when you overstuff an underwear drawer and then learned first hand how slippery silk undies on hardwood floors can become

So, what was the misleading title I hear you say?

It's because it was a leg break and not an arm break, so, yay, hands still plenty free to do things~

I'm still a little fuzzy, currently on pain meds, so things are gonna be a mix of hazy and irritable for the next few days, buuuut I'm in good hands, Jeri's got at least a day or two left of some leave before she's returning to work and we're thankful for that, considering this is like massively unfortunate business season for her and all <<

So, in summary, casted, but in care and recuperating, still semi-sentient and will holler back further soon, just need a day or two to adjust or such <<

=D Well, I hope this finds you all well, I'm happy to say that today has found well for us here, I woke up about 6-7ish but, under a house imposed agreement, we all agreed not to get out of bed before 8 or 9, so, I just enjoyed snuggling up with Jeri and got things in order

Gift giving, we'd already been up the night before and each gave one another a single present to open, so, once up, we sat down and got to eh unwrapping, I'm happy to say among INDEED receiving my new tablet, I've also nabbed a Combiner Wars Ultra Magnus, which is just all kinds of awesome, like he's leapt out of hte pages of my MTMTE comic and came to life in plastic form <3

Some cash, which may come in fairly handy soon, Inside Out on Blu-Ray that we're gonna watch later and one of the presents I opened up last night, Walking Dead Risk, a game that we ended up last night playing all the way until 2am before we called time, I won on territory and before any horrible things could be said that would be remembered the next day XD


But there's a lot more to be happy about than just the holidays, today is the first Xmas in a long while I've celebrated without a cast of some form, so I've been happy to get stuck in with the festivities and all

And even before that, I didn't even tell you guys about the anniversary two weeks ago! =B Me and Jeri kept it quiet, ended up that we didn't go for a holiday this year, but INSTEAD, we've bought my parents a week away next year, in hopes that we may instead enjoy the house to ourselves and make our own budget holiday, whilst also handily picking a present for Xmas for my mom and dad, lol

Nah, the Anniversary was quiet, a new outlet had opened up, me and her hit the restaurants, then a bar afterwards, not exactly my normal hang, buuuuut, it was fairly laid back and nice and cosy, which was just what I wanted, and I think Jeri kinda knew that, she still has to wait until part of HER present next month, so we'll see that soon <3

Not to mention, finally as you may or may not have noticed, there's been a good amount of updating on the page of late, I've got time more now to art what with no casts and with something very special finally up... so before that announcement?

HERE's the big news

I went and told you guys in the last journal that there was a partial reason for the break in art before I finally began churning out new pics and doodles, well, today as I type this and wait for the next meal, or more likely, type this between being hollered into the kitchen to help - and watch Arthur Christmas at the same time (awesome Xmas movie <3) - now is the time to tell you guys

On the one hand, it was a case of some presents took too long <<

A few pieces of art won't appear on the gallery, but, maybe one or two MAY be shown in the next few days, between comics and... well... again, you'll see, it took me a lot of time to divert into that


On the other? This one's the big one, that whilst this year, myself and Jeri went and faced rejection when we got bounced back from adoption, well, I promised it wouldn't be the end of the story and it's not

While I don't have anything yet to say about us having a new member of the family, I CAN say that I took advice from some folks here and now, am officially signed up as a Big Sister =D

Soooooo, you know, I might be a lil busy here and there, but I'd like to think I'm going to be practising a bit more moderation from now on and this IS going to be me learning a bit more responsibility, as well as hopefully a bit of practise for when next we apply to adopt once again~

I promise to keep you guys up to date, and let you know about my new little sister in the new year as and when we first meet! =D

I'll keep this message short here, I'm considering it a miracle my parents remember Thanksgiving this year, they're getting prepared like actual weeks before now, lol, whereas it always ended up like rushed last minute IF they remembered in previous years, I'd like to think Jeri gets to claim the credit on that one, weird to think how my folks just seemed to take forever to climatise with holidays or stuff before =o

Sorry to say I hadn't checked in last weekend, only, I don't think I need to say much when I mention since Friday I've been fairly busy at work

It was a fairly strange experience that when googling BBC's annual children in need - a charity event they host every year in the UK, usually it has a Doctor Who special clip - and then the first thing that pops up on google is BBC News with Paris right at the top

A few minutes later and barely been able to read the full article, the phone rings and work calls, where we've been effectively on a 24 hour watch, of which I'm one of the lucky few who is there like half the time

I do know a good few furs in Paris and Europe, it goes without saying how terrible and tragic this senseless loss of life is, and a few I've spoken to personally have told me just how tense the whole country is, with multiple co-ordinated attacks, it feels like a whole new warfront that's opened up

And the effect of which has reached all the way back here, it's times like this that make me hate being in a business that thrives in bad news

Really only makes me feel worse that we're covering it just to see the political fallout as we block our borders to refugees, declare demolitions on mosques and watch as we bicker more and more about what the right thing is to do

I'm feeling pretty damn drained, but, with raids turning France into a battle zone and no end to political grandstands on the back of this, I'm fairly sure it'll be at least a few days before we get to really ease up on the round the clock watches

Hopefully will have some good news to share with you guys soon, especially folks on DfD list with a proposal to be made

Wow, set this one up I guess when it came to titles after the last journal, lol, so, lessee, been on one of those off weeks' and spending time just generally pushing myself back together

Starters?

HALLOWEEN PROTIP: Be careful with Morphsuits and bright lights.

As you may have guessed occasionally when there's a silence from me, I'm back on the wagon with a new cast, lol

After spending years going out for Halloween parties and such, and making our own costumes and such each year, Jeri got tired of no-one getting what we'd be dressed up as, and decided in a rather matter of fact manner that we were now going to instead buy store bought costumes, but not like Walmart, y'know, a proper costume store place =O

So out we go! Jeri picks this kind of generic victorian gothic masquerade outfit, all black lace and cobwebs and elegance with a lil silver/black mask thing, and she's bought for, meanwhile, I get my eye on a couple of fun outfits, and wind up spotting the morph suits, y'know, those things that are just skin tight suits with printed patterns on them?

Yeah, I spot a Pink Power Ranger and decide what the hell, I wanna see what it's like, but I've never worn one before, so ask to try it on =O Turns out for some understandable reasons that you can't try out a bodysuit, BUT the store had their own one, and despite any hygeiene thoughts, in I went!

Tried the thing on and gotta say it was all kinds of awesome, fun, taut, just the right mix of flexible and restricting at the same time, out I came from the stall to show Jeri and discovered JUST what happens when you shine ANY light on a person in a morph suit, you never realise JUST how bright something is until you see it a different way, like say, how suddenly a dim set of store lights in daytime end up DAZZLING you, blinds you to everything and you cannot see a damn thing

Which is of course what happened to me, then, what you'd normally expect as I stumbled into a shelf and did a good job of dismantling both the shelf and my left wrist =P

Good news is that was like a week ago now, feeling better now at least

AND, it wasn't all bad?

We did some compromising, that I still managed to cobble something together, I requested a red cast for my left wrist and even though it was the wrong way round, doodled on it and got out a trench coat, some red makeup, a set of goggles to turn into horns and then marker pen-d my cast to make myself look like Hellboy =B

So hopped up on pain meds and such, me and Jeri still got to show off our costumes at her works Halloween fling the Friday night, lol, then proceeded to spend ACTUAL Halloween mostly by myself, and with the lights out just kind of, wimping out and pretending I wasn't in, actually kinda miserable x_o Bleh, ups and downs, just wasn't feeling it I guess without Jeri there and having already done the costuming the night before?

Iunno, it kinda made me feel bad feeling so grouchy, it's not entirely unexpected in the first week of broken bone blues, but still, just feel bleh that it happened on Halloween, y'know? I don't think I even watched as much as a horror movie that night >_>


In fact, that's a bit of ennui that's spread even to the computer screen, believe it or not? This is NIGHT THREE of trying to post this up, and just, finally only getting this far now, and I'm half wondering if maybe I've hit a point of disgruntlement with my work that I can't stand looking at a computer screen or any news thanks to sitting at my desk through all the ungodly hours?

Glah, not to mention that's part of why I failed a self-implemented goal to finish a story in time for Halloween, so, missed goals x_X


I DO however have some sorta good news? Or, well, we'll see I guess, but, Jeri was asking me about Xmas stuff, if I wanted anything specifically, so, before I asked for anything Magic/comic related, I decided to think and instead, thought about getting a WACOM tablet or some such =O

My scans have been horrible of late and I've admired the digital setup for a while.... soooooo, basically, would any of you guys have any recommendations for affordable tablets that are good quality to maybe leave lying around? =O

Happy to say at least the list shrinks again by a number or two =O

Things are going okay right now, but, won't lie, last week I hit a pretty bad low

Things got better and Jeri's been kind of a key to that area as well as speaking to a few close friends about stuff, but, long story short?

I went into a pretty miserable downward cycle and ended up spending a lot of money very selfishly on myself that I shouldn't have and didn't have the right to do so, leaving me and Jeri in a very precarious space

So, from now til Xmas, this means no more Magic for starters, I'm bought in for next week's Game Day already, but after that, I'm kind of bought out x_o

I have folks birthdays and Xmas itself to save up for, when I've effectively ran through the savings that I had for it and in the end, didn't have anything to show for it

So, yeah, one good thing about not spending any money? I hope this means I'm going to have to spend my time being a lot less extravagant in my choice of activities, so, y'know, be nice to art/write some more with all the spare time I'll have? >>

Only bad possibility is the whether or not this means doing more overtime, not like we had much savings left after everything we put into getting this place ready for a kid we're not able to have

So, yeah, least there's the positives to be had, I'm healthy, me and Jeri are over some turmoil, or at least turning a corner and we got some art up today, here's to more hopefully =B

Yeah, no, reason this has not been updated is not that I've been overloading on cardboard crack, although that IS one reason, I am happy to say I've been working on art and will upload soon?

Just that I've been going through a bit of a loathing of my own work period, and don't know if I'm too happy about my output, so, we'll see how I do shortly =B

So, as to the whole 'too much Magic thing'?

I think I'm not exaggerating when I say that the Zendikar hype has been massive and people have been like rabid dogs trying to open up packs of this stuff, from Prerelease marathons, to preordering CASES of the stuff, to stores selling out like day one of the launch, and all the rampant launch weekends that happened thereafter

And YES I did get myself among them, lol, so, for like two weekends straight I've been playing Magic, so, I promise weekdays I have been trying more to be more proactive and such XP

And as a promise not to go into too much geekery, I will NOT ask you guys to hear me rant about the set thus far - I'll save that for another journal, lol - and just say all's doing okay, me and Jeri are doing okay at the moment and I'm still somehow castless =B

Well, let's dust this place down and get started again!

So, not easy to see where to start, so, forgive me if this one gets a little rambling, but, I guess I'm still a little scrambled right now as I'm typing this up and all

First things first, we're okay

It certainly wasn't an easy week, as I think we went through so many stages of grief, from sitting in the room we'd built up for our hopeful addition, just staring at the paint on the walls, sitting around and just doing nothing and being alone with your thoughts makes for miserable company, and lead to what may have been the most charged arguments that me and Jeri have had since we got married

Yeah, it was a bit of of mess around here

As to the actual decision? It was apparently a number of factors they said why we were turned down over becoming adoptive parents, from what kind of environment we could provide children, to my capabilities as a caring adult with my constant injuries to concerns about both myself and Jeri on a wellbeing level

It was fairly disheartening as the guy took us through points one by one, culminating in the guy only finally when it was all over folding his paperwork, closing the file and speaking frankly like he wasn't a robot the whole time

He has made us aware that there are appeals available to us, but that he he recommended we wait and reapply or watch what we do next, considering we're now officially a blip on the radar and that we're going to have to be careful about what we do next since now the file is marked against us

The big bill being that if we even want to be considered again, that we need to go through a shrink

Since much of the argument me and Jeri had was over whether or not we should again, and the question whether or not having kids was something only I wanted that Jeri followed along with

I think for now we're going to just take a breather from all of this, we have holidays coming up, time to spend together and just kind of put all the stress and anguish behind us

In better news my cast came off, forgot to mention that last time, so, health wise all is well, and we're trying to get back to day by day, Jeri had to go back to work and we couldn't get more time off to really take any further time to ourselves, so like it or not, it's time to get back up and get back on the horse

I'll start phasing back in more and more and you'll see more of me again, especially now that I don't have to worry about any more meetings or interviews or such

There you have it guys, that's pretty much everything in a nutshell, so, we'll speak to you all soon and see if we can get back to a shade of routine

We're still together, we still have each other and we still have our health, sort of, so, for that we'll be thankful

Welp, slowly but surely I'm chipping away at this list of doodles =D

And, I'm making more lists as well, what with Xmas coming up, family birthdays and such, gotta do a lot of budgeting to make sure I don't break the bank this year, and definitely make sure I'm smart enough not to need to ask for money from Jeri or anyone or make another DfD for a while, it really IS taking me far too long to create anything these days =x

But, gah, self doubt aside, making a list is good work, getting some ideas- urk, who am I kidding? >_> I've stared at a list of names for like a week or two, I keep getting just little ideas, but like nothing that I could think would knock people out of the park

I guess maybe it's also the fact my anniversary comes up before Xmas, I wanna put my thoughts there to make sure I get something good for Jeri =x

Yeah, getting super psyched, all the preview season happening, three more days left of cards to be revealed on top of everything they've already shown off, I've been enjoying the Eldrazi build up as Magic quickly became Attack on Titan with everyone getting ready to reclaim the plane

You know, there IS a part of me that wonders, would it be bad if I went and decided I wanted to be the bad guy this block?

Considering, you know, this is the first Magic story block I've had here there is a single defined protagonists/antagonists side of the story to choose your stance, I keep looking back at the Eldritch horrors and loving how they've been represented in the game, the idea of the Eldrazi working as a hivemind, the spawned scions spreading everywhere and consuming the life out of everything, then being consumed by the larger Eldrazi processors to consume the mana they've already taken and building up bigger and bigger Eldrazi that wreck the more active lifeforms that fight back against them, building up all the way to the three titans that spawned them all

Mechanically it all works very well for how it simulates the Eldrazi feeding on all opponents and creatures placed before it, and wanna imagine myself all over the top DnD game master going 'mwahahahah' after throwing their adventurers against my never ending hoarde of monstrosities~

But yeah, considering making me a villain, I think I'll need to go rewatch Wreck It Ralph, remind myself you can be a badguy, but it won't make you a bad guy =B

For serious, I've got back into swing of things in work and such, there are at least two marks off Ze List and I'm sketching here and there where I can, so, y'know, time to at least say this >_>

Zendikar, the set in Magic, was one of THE iconic sets, now we're going back and SWEET PROGENITUS I NEED THOSE LANDS

Yeah, not just the Full Art Lands? Lands that are gorgeous, beautifully boarded and just all the bling you need to make your deck oh-so pretty, but the PREMIUM stuff, the stuff that apparently 1 in about 540 packs will be a FOIL, FULL ART VERSION of existing ridiculously expensive already lands

Which will now make these likely without exaggeration about 300 bucks each

That is going to be both SO satisfying to pull at a prerelease, or so heartbreaking to pull in a draft, knowing you then have to fight for your life to keep that card

Just, just, beautiful

Oh, then there's also this hiding freaking Eldritch horror thing that's out to get us all, so, Magic goes Attack on Titan thanks to Ulamog and his brood of Eldrazi spawn consuming us little by little

Massive shout goes to  Manarat for getting me somewhat hyped, and also to  Scotskunk for showing me first hand how powerful allies can get, and now have both a PLANESWALKER and MECHANIC ventured around them

I wanted to bump this up because it's been a while since I made relevant notice on the list =O

I've kind of had things heavy of late and a lot of interruptions, but, as I said to one member of the list, and I'd like to state to all of you guys on it, you're not forgotten, just unfortunately caught between some uber-levels of drama that have forced me to put my offline life into more attention than anything else

This is kind of half the reason I don't do art on a professional level, the other being my general lack of ability, lol, but, still, his isn't a matter I really should be laughing about

Again no timeframes, but, this week IS the week off between working on the house, so, just wanted to push this back to the top to keep this on front page and make sure it's visible at least =o

Welp, I didn't give you guys any further update, but I can at least apologise and say I had a good reason now, when I say that I eloped! =O

Well, more accurately, I decided that Jeri had been suffering particularly from the recent treatment we'd been going through and I decided that it was worthwhile taking her and getting away from everything for a weekend since I had some time off there AND had been scheduled to get my arm cast off

So, first good news? My arm IS free!

Second, that I think Jeri very much appreciated the idea, I took her away, she went and cleared her own schedule and I promised no electronics or disruptions, just the two of us and Rascal away from it all

I won't go into full detail, but it was very nice, the two of us got time to ourselves and we got to connect some past the tension that's been flying around, certainly there's been an increase of times that we've asked each other for some personal space after the sessions we had to go through

So, now a weekend later afterward, we've been able to get back to some normality, I've been given an all clear to walk on the cast on my leg and I'm an arm back up, a lil weak, but that's the norm, so, I can help out with the painting/refurbing going on =O

I DID doodle some whilst away, nothing big, but, I guess it's more than the nothing I've had uploaded over the last few weeks, so, I'll hang that up for you guys to see

Sadly not DFD related, and a lil self indulgent, but, some art progress is better than none I think <<

You'll see what I mean when I post this up shortly, lol

But yeah, we're back, we're doing alright, and getting ourselves stuck into some work, so, we'll hope to have more news for you guys soon =B

Me and Jeri are done with the shrink, and we're both kinda worn out I think, but still together, still holding in, not sure if Jeri took it for the worse, but, will do best to stay on top and keep letting her know we're alright

Honestly not sure how we did apart from doing the whole 'make a joke, awkward silence then Doc writes down an observation' bit that DID NOT help out making it any less tense

Be a while before we hear back, so once more in limbo, but good news is this weekend is definitely cast off day for my arm, think it's been so long I've forgotten what it looks like, lol

So, yeah, the whole updating thing really did not take shape as much I'd hoped, and this is down to two points, one petty and one a little more jarring, but, figured I owed it to keep you guys in the loop as things here are progressing.

Petty thing out of the way, went to hospital, arm still not healed up enough, kind of ticked over that one and been a bit stroppy of late, still stuck fully casted here.

Something I haven't really talked to you guys about of late is the adoption front, and I'd been hoping to say a no news is good news thing, but finally we got a call to go down the last few days and speak to our appointed worker, who had been carrying out various background interviews and such with folks who have been polite enough not to bring it up in conversation what they may or may not have said about us.

And, what the guy said really doesn't fill with confidence, as he's decided that he wants us to speak to a therapist to assess our 'current mental wellbeing'.

I'm not exactly sure WHAT got said that lead to us being thrown into a psychiatrists, nor what logic loops are being jumped, but I'm feeling very nervous about the whole thing, more so the fact that me and Jeri are being instructed to do this separately from one another so we can't guide answers or attempt anything on them.

I've my share of skeletons in the closet, and I'm not sure just how deep this is going to go, me and Jeri both have stuff that we don't often share with other people, and I'm not sure if they're going to start prodding something very private to me that could somehow change the outcome of their decision, but lying about it would be worse, and I'm sure that any real professional psychotherapist could likely spot a dishonest answer a mile away...

Yeeesh, there's a lot here to fret and worry about, I haven't been sleeping great just worrying about this, and it's coming fast, this weekend, I really don't know what's going to happen, but I don't mind saying that the first time in this whole process I am very afraid of what the outcome may be on this.

Welp, we had the journal all about the fantasy last week, this week, lessee if we can do some more catching up and more journals, it seems like my weekends are fairly solid booked out for time

Whether its a busy Friday Night Magic, Gred for the wi- well... not the WIN so much? But, third place and five free packs have a fairly nice damn ring to it =B I think that was the first time in a long while I played the current standard format competitively, everything else has been Commander and various other quirky versions of the game

Nice to know my skills aren't waning much, and that I have a semi-coherent grasp on the new gamefront since Magic Origins hit the ground running, even if only using one or two new cards to augment the deck

Although be damned if I wasn't beat by the one strategy I wanted to play, Green White aggro =x


Welp, I AM happy to say that eBay sent me a random 20 bucks, so I invested it into some of the parts for my new hopeful deck, we'll see how that one goes soon mayhap =o


Injury count, I'm holding steady and looking forward to a checkup at weekend, so, hopefully gonna see how my arm is doing, it feels like forever since I had an elbow to bend, lol, wouldn't mind getting it back sometime soon, although maybe I wanna ask the doctors to leave the cast on even if it is healing

Me and Jeri doing the renovating of the rooms has lead to a sudden decision to just completely overhaul the whole house top to bottom, new furniture, new paint, lots of cleaning out and clearing out, so this is definitely going to be a busy place for the next month or so, should be interesting say the least, if only to brighten the place up a little

Not sure how much help I'm going to be right now apart from getting in folks way, but, I'd like to give a hand anyhow, even if only a little, I sat at the weekend packing up some stuff into boxes just to get it out of the way and help out a lil while just sitting on the bed

Although it also left me a weekend looking at chores and realising I'm not quite up to much work, even if I'm okay to get up and about right now, guess there's still a limit just how much I can handle around =x

Jeri also decided to help me in some fashion also during the packing up, either that or she got tired of me leaving Magic cards lying around and got me a lil mini-drawer tray-thing where I can shove all my boxes of cards and brew to my hearts' content~

Looking at writing when I can't art however, I once wrote a story out on my smartphone back and forth whilst in spare time and wondering if I can put something together just once again to rekindle some creative juices

Either that or just poke myself to journal more like I promised? Hey, getting there one update at a time~

Yeah, I wanna do this properly, so, just gonna see how much I can write up in 25 minutes about stuff, sooooo, what's good/bad/scream-worthy in the world of fiction relevant to Jazz this week?


The Good!

-Shonen Jump this week heralded something rather wonderful for me to see in Hero Academy, Shonen Jump has been a little hit and miss for me of late, trying to find its feet now with Naruto gone and Bleach limping to a finish line, but Hero Academy has really picked up a lot of the slack, I guess particularly because of the hero Deku in it, and that is kind of the point of this weeks' events.

You see, if you're not already a fan, Deku is a rare freak in a world of people who have superpowers and he has none, the everyday 'quirks' of powers appear in everyone and superheroism is a major part of culture and everyday life, until he finds out the truth behind the most respected and popular hero 'All Might' who has a way of giving his power to Deku

And sadly, the effect doesn't work well with Deku's body, who finds out wielding such massive power is something his body can't handle, literally he breaks his own bones throwing devastating punches, it was certainly a little hard sometimes watching him wreck his own body to have to fight, but, it was handled in a great way that really broke the Jump mold and let them take a protagonist who starts weak and gradually strengthens himself up

After weeks of fights leading to Deku being in various casts and bandages, eventually the school's healer states she'll no longer heal his injuries, finding him self-destructive, and now, finally this week, he rushes into battle without a single backlash of his abilities against himself

It was awesome to see, and I feel a little envious mayhap that he can do it now while I still struggle to do a ton of stuff without having to worry about the consequences of even small things, but, yeah, it's kinda cathartic and kinda awesome as well

Basically for so long, Deku found he could only handle small percentages of the power inside him without it overflowing and just tearing him apart, so, he would concentrate the power into a single point, so, say, throwing a punch would only break a single finger

NOW however, he realised that the focusing is what's causing the damage, that if he just spread the power evenly across his body, stopping it from snapping back

So, yeah, looking forward to next week and seeing Deku kick some ass =B


The Bad!


NOT exactly bad, but just, somehing that reminded me of a previous bad and wanted to talk...

Magic the Gathering has always published a short story every single week to progress the story of their characters, often to varying degrees of success, sometimes good, sometimes bad... but recently a very large importance was placed on the characters stories as Magic Origins took over the world of Magic, themed around all the origin stories of all the planeswalkers and how they ignited the spark, where they journeyed to, how they became the characters they are today

Yet, as I read todays story, I thought back to the backstory of one of the characters Nissa


In basic timeline, Nissa joined the ranks of the Planeswalkers a while back in Zendikar, where she made herself leader of the elves of Zendikar, acting as their leader and believing in the supremacy of elves above all other races on the world, and how her actions ultimately lead to the unleashing of the elder Gods the Eldrazi across the multiverse once more in the hopes it would save her world

Then she vanished until last year she was brought back into the fold, with Magic no longer favoring Garruk to be the face of the Green cards in Magic, and Nissa was reintrocuded via a story of her wallowing in the destruction and misery she's caused, and after being rescued, her rescuers come under attack, and through their acts of sacrifice and banding together all the races against the Eldrazi, Nissa awakens her own new elemental abilities and uses the land itself to save them from the Eldrazi spawn that would have killed her saviors

So, thats where Nissa is today, a former species-ist elf now a redemptive character banding others behind her to try and save her world and I loved that angle, to show she could become better than she was and now...

Now?

Magic has retconned her story somewhat, to make her more kid friendly I guess?

All that elf supremacy stuff is gone, when people read up on her backstory notes before the actual story came out how she wound up on her first planeswalk meeting the elves of the plane of Lorwyn, a terrifying race of elves who believe in beauty alone, rank themselves in castes of their beauty and will kill what they deem unworthy of beauty and labelling them as 'eyeblights' that must be destroyed to rid the world of their ugliness

SUDDENLY it all made sense how Nissa could go so far, that her time with the elves could influence her to become the supremist she did, but now?

Now, the story is out, she gets to Lorwyn.... and none of that's there, instead, she gets there, sees the hunts on the eyeblights, is horrified and leaves just as a planewide event takes place

So, they completely avoided the situation, they completely ignored it and retconned it out it seems

And while I get Wizards trying to make her more appealing to new people unaware of her past, it seems somewhat of an insult, as horrible as she had once been, it felt rewarding to see her redeem herself and earn her place at the forefront of the new cast

I feel rather down still about the whole thing and seeing her just get blinked out of her own story, what next for Nissa? How will Wizards treat her from here on in? I guess it's much of a wait and see =x

One down?

A bundle to go... and I've been kind of wondering about things, I'd struggled just a lil with things here, but, with the way things have been rough here for a while, it's brought a lot to the fore and me and Jeri have been talking about a couple of my trepidations and whatnot of late

Ever since I stopped writing at the paper, my creativity has taken a deepfall dive, my own writing for stories, art, outputs, just well, no secret that my updates have been a lot less of late

Not to mention just on a mental level that my online status has been at big all time lows and I don't wanna stay like that, so, working on that seems like an idea, so, I'd appreciate some thoughts from you guys =o

ONE big problem I haven't mentioned is tiredness, and that may or may NOT be linked to the fact I'm only getting six hours of sleep a night for work, and may or may not have been very close to trouble from how close I was to falling asleep at the desk

This means I need a better sleep schedule, at LEAST seven hours a night, if not 7.5/8, which does mean even EARLIER bed hours, which means even less online time or any other kind of things I want to do, but, well, I look at this way, despite staying up late and even reducing my sleep time to about five and a half hours a night, I've been getting zero productive actions completed, and then in days off I'm too demotivated to do anything or get stuff done

So, a schedule sounds like it'd be something good for me, let me enjoy some videogaming or watching shows without feeling guilty for doing so instead of making more art or storying

...So, yeah, like, for instance, when Steven Bomb happens on Cartoon Network and me and Jeri curl up to watch the whole thing back to back >>

Dear ME that was heavy, and so wonderfully cathartic to see happen, now I just need to wait for more Steven Universe to reveal the other coverage we got from SDCC

But jeepers, call me selfish to read between the lines to stuff relevant, but, seeing a pair of female partners having a very normal fight in a relationship and working through it for the benefit of their family is wonderful (holy hell, just realised I could apply that somewhat to Pearl/Garnet too, but then again, THAT fight is a very different theme and thought...)

And oh GOD the flirting~

Ended up being pushed to other cartoons with an underlying lesbian theme and somehow ended up seeing a TON of connotations I never saw before in a Courage the Cowardly Dog episode 'The Mask', wowsers

(Speaking of cartoon characters and lady on lady relationships, be damned if I've not been loving my Jem comics, now if only I wasn't queerbaited over the movie everyone hates, I don't wanna have to pay to go see it! >_>)

More journals, I feel like if I can write up more of these, instead of cramming two weeks of stuff into my single journal, I can make it less dense and maybe review/talk about stuff I'm liking and pocketing it into one journal you can avoid if it's not your thing =B

AND maybe it can get me to, in some small amount, work my enthusiasm back more into writing instead of falling asleep slumped over laptops and such

That said? Let's see how quickly we'll see a new journal up as I try to get some more art in! =B
