Tis a very sad day...
General | Posted 14 years agoWe had to put our 15 year old golden retriever-cocker spaniel mix, Romeo, down today.
A little backstory: my mother suddenly decided that she wanted to move out of state. Not wanting to leave everything behind, I opted to just live on campus instead, however, that meant I couldn't take our dogs and she didn't want to take them with her. We didn't want to put the dogs in a shelter, so we managed to find a place with my sister's mother-in-law. Then things got bad. Over the week, Romeo developed a horrible rash, was being eaten alive by fleas, and started vomitting. We took him to the vet today and they told us that the rash and fleas were easy to fix, but he would need tests to find the cause of the vomitting. He was old, incredibly old... and the rash was so bad that he couldn't sit still and could hardly sleep. We thought it best to let him rest now, as opposed to leaving all the medications with our mother-in-law and hoping that his condition wouldn't get any worse. It was a sad moment... but I really hope that the 13 years he spent with us were at least somewhat enjoyable. I know I enjoyed every moment. I'm going to miss that goofy guy, his too-big head always filled with that doggy smile, stub-tail wiggling like crazy... I really hope our other dog doesn't become depressed or something because of this, that'd be horrible.
Anyway, sad stuff... thanks for reading.
