Mini golf and more
Posted a month agoI've gone miniature golfing with my dad a few times in the past two months. Last Wednesday, I had my best game shooting just 1 over par.
Ten days ago, I got to see "Weird Al" Yankovic and Puddles Pity Party perform at the Ford Amphitheater on the north end of town. Both of them put on a great show. It's been 10 years since I last saw Weird Al, and it was my first time seeing Puddles.
I had applied for a delivery job at one of the Domino's Pizza locations near me. I got a call from another location further north asking if I was interested. I went to an interview this past Monday. I'm hoping to hear back soon if I am considered.

Prepping for DenFur
Posted 2 months agoDenFur released its schedule yesterday. I wrote down some of the panels I plan to attend. Like last year, there isn't a fursuit parade, but the "color wheel" fursuit photo is officially on the schedule this year. One event that caught my eye is a furry punk band called Fleabags. I'll see if they have their music online or are selling CDs at DenFur.
I'm bringing some of my own food to the con to save money. As I did with TFF 2023, I'll bring some English muffins, cheese and pre-cooked bacon for breakfasts. Some restaurants near the hotel include Noodles & Company, Potbelly Sandwiches and Lazo Empanadas. I originally wanted to get my pre-con and post-con lunches at a vegetarian restaurant called Meta Burger, but I just discovered that restaurant is permanently closed. Instead, I'll get a footlong sub from Subway on Thursday to have for lunch on Thursday and Friday.

Lost registration
Posted 2 months agoI lost my car's insurance/registration folder sometime last week. I don't know if it fell out during a delivery or if I took the folder out and just misplaced it. I ordered a new folder and copy of my registration, which arrived today.
My refrigerator is working again. A repairman came on Tuesday and found the defrost panel needed to be replaced.

Not-so-Sweet news
Posted 3 months agoI heard the Denver Sweet bar where the FoxTrot meet has been held is closing after this weekend. The August and October Foxtrots are already scheduled for different locations. Hopefully a new permanent location can be found for December.
My refrigerator stopped working sometime overnight Monday or Tuesday morning. I plugged in my mini fridge and put most of my frozen food in that. I called the refrigerator company and made an appointment for next Tuesday to have the fridge repaired. It was bought eight months ago and is still under a two-year protection plan.

DenFur hotel booked
Posted 3 months agoJust two months until DenFur!
Originally I had two separate hotel reservations for the con: Thursday-Sunday at the con rate and Sunday-Monday at the regular hotel rate. Last week, I was finally able to extend my original hotel reservation for DenFur to check out on Monday. This will save me about $280 since the extra day is at the con rate.
My dad was able to find a buyer for the van he had. The van was used to transport my mom after she became wheelchair-bound in 2006.

More IRL activity
Posted 4 months agoA family friend from Pittsburgh had visited earlier this month. She has encouraged me to be more active by walking, lifting weights and adjusting my diet. I weighed around 320 lbs. at the beginning of the year. This morning, I weighed 281.
Sticking to a diet is tough sometimes, especially when I see something tempting. An online food reviewer named Daym Drops combined Wendy's chicken nuggets, fries and chili into one dish. He called his creation the "Big Messy" and said Wendy's should make it a regular item.

Another "live on tape" Rabbit Hole
Posted 5 months agoI dropped off my laptop at Best Buy to get it repaired. The laptop had been blue-screening for two Sundays during Doggy Radio, then it blue-screened during the Rabbit Hole last Sunday. My laptop won't be ready until Monday, so this coming Sunday's Rabbit Hole will be a rerun.
I'm not sure if my laptop will be compatible with Windows 11 since the prompts to download it don't give me an actual link to do so.
If I do eventually need a new laptop, I'll try to find one with at least a 1 terabyte hard drive. My current laptop (bought in 2015) has about 450 gigabytes and is mostly full.

Ready for DenFur in August
Posted 5 months agoMy dad does nearly all of his grocery shopping at a local Space Force base's commissary. Since Dad is starting to have trouble walking, he had me fill out information to get a base visitors pass so I can accompany him when needed.
I double checked my old Subaru to make sure everything is out of it and also removed the license plates. The car was towed away after 20 years of faithful service.
I registered and got a hotel room for DenFur. Just 117 days until DenFur happens! I could only get the hotel room through Sunday afternoon. I called the hotel and got a separate reservation for Sunday to Monday at the regular hotel rate instead of the con rate. If the room block opens more rooms, I'll try to extend my original reservation at the con rate.

Another leg MRI
Posted 7 months agoI had an MRI done on my right leg earlier this month to make sure everything is healed. According to my doctor, the MRI found a lesion on my femur, but it doesn't appear to be cancerous. I am supposed to get another MRI in six months to see if the lesion has any changes.
Starting anew car-wise
Posted 8 months agoI was involved in an accident while driving to my dad's house about a month ago. A truck driving the other way slid on the snow/ice on the road, rammed my car's driver's side and drove off before I could get the truck's license plate number.
Both doors and the rearview mirror were smashed, and one of the rear axles was bent. The body shops I took the car to said it would be too difficult to find parts and too expensive to repair ($6,400-7,900) for the value of the car.
My dad and brother helped me find a used 2024 car with very low mileage, which I began driving today. It's the same type as my old car, a Subaru Impreza. My old Subaru (a 2005 model) served me well for 20 years.

Less weight (and fewer conventions?)
Posted 9 months agoI saw a nurse on Friday to look at my leg wound. It appears to be healing well. I'll see the nurse again next week.
I didn't make an official New Year's resolution list for 2024, but I am proud of two accomplishments that are normally on my lists. I weighed 319 at the end of the year (down from 341 after my cruise) and I've paid off about 17% of my debt. For 2025, I'd like to at least get my weight below 305 and keep chipping away at my debt. I'm exercising more and trying to eat healthier with help from a family friend.
There's 95 days until Furry Fiesta. I reserved a hotel room months ago, but I'm unsure if I'll be able to attend the con this year. I remember I didn't do as much as I wanted last year due to the crowded elevators and my depression. Last year, the total cost of the trip was $1,875. It would probably be wiser to save that money and just attend DenFur this year at a much lower cost.

Home from the hospital
Posted 10 months agoI spent the weekend in the hospital.
During my follow-up appointment for my leg sprain on Friday, the doctor noticed the compression sleeve put on my knee had cut into my leg. I went to the emergency room immediately after and was admitted.
The doctor originally said I would need surgery to close the wound, but later determined surgery wasn't needed. On my last day in the hospital (Monday,) I was given supplies and instructions for changing the bandages on my leg and treating the wound. I also have an appointment in early-January at a wound care clinic.

MRI update
Posted 11 months agoI now have a new refrigerator and the results of my MRI. The leg injury I have is only a sprain. I'm doing my best to rest, though I can't always do that living alone.
My dad had a group of cleaners clean my condo since I've done a poor job of keeping it clean. I hope to improve on that from now on.

Not what I ordered
Posted 11 months agoI didn't order a shit sandwich, but I seem to have had a big one served up for me. During my cruise, I injured my right leg below the knee while on a beach. I had x-rays done when I got home and thankfully hadn't broken any bones. I also had an MRI of the leg done and am waiting to hear the results. I can walk using a cane, though it's slow and sometimes painful.
As if that isn't bad enough, my refrigerator decided to break down this weekend. I first noticed this today when the ice in a bottle I kept in the freezer melted. Checking the fridge, the thermometer was deep in the "spoilage" range. I still have a mini fridge, but it's too late for the food I have in the main fridge/freezer.

Nearly perfect show
Posted a year agoI had a small glitch during my Rabbit Hole show last night. I accidentally unplugged one of the USB devices I use which caused the audio to stop completely. Restarting Mixxx after plugging the device back in fixed the issue.
I have an Apple Watch now. The problem is I don't have an iPhone which is needed to pair with the watch. My smartphone is an Android, and I don't plan on trading it in anytime soon. I don't know if there's an iPhone emulator app or whether that would work to sync with my watch. I couldn't get the watch to work with just Wi-Fi. If nothing else works, I will probably exchange the Apple Watch for a Samsung Watch if the store has any. [UPDATE: My oldest brother offered to buy my Apple Watch.]
I have almost everything I need for my upcoming cruise. Only 20 more days! I'm just waiting for some mini bottles of distilled water for my APAP machine.

No new job yet
Posted a year agoI'm still trying to make a list for a Costco shopping trip this weekend. My brother's friend will be visiting and wants to take me shopping. The only items I have on the list so far are a pair of flip-flops and an Apple Watch. The store's selection of shirts and pants aren't available in my size.
I found a listing for an announcer job at a light rock station in Denver. I applied last week, but got a rejection e-mail yesterday.
My new passport has arrived, so I was able to check in early for my upcoming Halloween cruise. I'm also buying some more shirts and pants to have enough for the trip.
I made an appointment for today to get a flu shot and COVID booster shot. I'll be going to a meetup later today, so I hope the shots won't make me feel sluggish.

Shopping trip without a list?
Posted a year agoA friend of one of my brothers is going to visit my dad next month, and she wants to take me on a Costco shopping trip. I was planning on getting some more clothes before my cruise, so this news came at a good time. When I looked at Costco's clothing selection online, I saw the sizes are listed differently. I'm currently a 3X Tall size, so I don't know how that translates to Costco's sizes.
I don't need anything else like kitchen appliances. Even if I did, my small kitchen is already packed with what I do have. The only things I really need are a cure for my depression and a job that pays a living wage, neither of which can be bought.
I slipped up last Sunday with my tribute to Dragoneer. It turns out I accidentally called him Dragonhead, the name of one of the IRC chatters.

New passport appointment
Posted a year agoR.I.P. Dragoneer. Thanks to FurAffinity, you helped furries around the world connect with each other.
I have my birth certificate now, so I have an appointment tomorrow with the post office for getting my new passport. My cruise is just 81 days away, and DenFur is in a couple of weeks! I found out last night that DenFur will not be having a fursuit parade this year. I'm disappointed in that, but I'm glad there will still be a fursuit photo shoot.

Passport delays
Posted a year agoMy path to getting a new passport has a few roadblocks. I had made an appointment for last week with the post office, but I forgot I needed to bring my birth certificate. My dad keeps my birth certificate in a safe deposit box at the credit union. Dad said he might be able to get the birth certificate sometime this week. I'll make another appointment for the passport once I have the certificate. There's only 90 days until my Halloween cruise!
A furry bowling meet was held in the Denver area after a long time without one. I haven't bowled in a few years, so my scores (59 and 110) were lower than my old average.

Account relief for a few months
Posted a year agoI made the final payment for my upcoming cruise yesterday. It's nice to finally have that paid off because my accounts won't be as empty as they have been for the past few months.
I tried Taco Bell's new Cheez-It Crunchwrap a couple times over the past week. The first time, I thought they forgot to put in the giant Cheez-It. Others explained the Cheez-It basically disappears into the other ingredients of the Crunchwrap. It still tastes good, though I'll quote another review by saying it's "more heavy on the gimmick than it is on the flavor."

Slight change in vacation plans
Posted a year agoThere's only 70 days until DenFur and 134 days until my Halloween cruise!
The company that booked my pre-cruise hotel stay in Orlando called me to say the hotel I originally chose will be closing in July. Considering all of the negative reviews the hotel has been getting, I'm not completely surprised. My reservation was moved to another hotel less than a mile from the original one. The new hotel has many more positive reviews. I just need to call the booking company the day before my stay to make sure the reservation is still active.
My dad showed me an ad in the local paper looking for delivery drivers. I really wish there were more opportunities locally that didn't involve driving. I already do food deliveries and just barely make enough to cover the cost of gas and maintenance.

Possible job, but with drawbacks
Posted a year agoOnly 100 days until DenFur and 164 days until my Halloween cruise!
I found a job opening at KRCC (the station where I previously worked for 18 years) this week. The station is looking for a new local host for Morning Edition. I applied even though I don't have all of the skills required, mostly because it offered a great salary. The only downside of the job is the hours. The position is weekdays from 4:30 AM to 1:30 PM. That would affect my listening to Doggy Radio on Monday mornings, as well as possibly affecting the Rabbit Hole on Sunday nights.

On the air (not quite)
Posted a year agoI don't think I was connected to my server when I tried to do the Saturday show. I was about to e-mail Boomer to ask him to enable my port, but my Mixxx program's green "on air" light came on and I thought I was already connected. Near the end of the show, I brought up the stream page on my cell phone and saw it wasn't playing. I'll be sure to double check things next week.
Rabbit Hole: So long?
Posted a year agoI heard Saturday that Romeo Rabbit is stepping away from the Rabbit Hole. Whether or not this is good-bye for good, I want to thank Romeo and show my appreciation for his 14 years of dedication to the show. I was introduced to a wide range of furry musicians thanks to Romeo.
As I continue with the show, I should inform everyone that I only have a fraction of the furry music library that Romeo has. My "Studio C (couch)" is just a laptop and a Blue Snowball microphone, although I am trying to raise money for a more professional setup.
I can't really use my "radio voice" late at night due to living in a condo and not wanting to disturb the neighbors. Also, I wouldn't be able to do any interviews of musicians because I completely suck at it due to lack of experience.
I don't know yet if I will do a Saturday morning/afternoon show as Romeo has done. I will need to discuss that with Boomer as he controls the server I use for the Rabbit Hole. Boomer had suggested splitting the show with someone else. I may do that if I find I'm too overwhelmed.
I hope everyone can be patient with me as this announcement came as a complete surprise. I will do my best to carry on with the Rabbit Hole, though it might not be the same quality as when Romeo did it. Any feedback, good or bad, is appreciated.

Looking forward to DenFur and cruise
Posted a year agoDenFur opened their hotel reservations on (of all days) April 1st without any advanced notice. I was able to get a room for Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, but Sundays were sold out. Luckily, I was able to add Sunday a few days later.
I was too tired to go outside to watch the solar eclipse. According to other people's pictures, the sun was about 2/3 covered by the moon here. An eclipse forecast for 2045 will include Colorado in the path of totality. I'll be 74 when this happens.
There's less than 200 days until my October cruise! I will pay off the cruise cost over the next four months. If I can't find my passport by July, I'll need to order a replacement. I need to get a new passport anyway because my current passport expires in January 2025.
