Avatar and Totoro fans...?
Posted 16 years agoOkay, here's the thing: I just finishes watching Avatar: The Last Airbender and I love it more than just a little. XD (Iroh's my favorite, in case you were wondering.) While browsing wikipedia I read that the guys who made Avatar based his flying byson Appa on the cat bus from Tonari no Totoro (a beautiful Ghibli movie) and ever since then I've head this image of my dear little Jay and two plushies... but one tiger can only huggle so many plushies at a time, so I thought I might include another character in said pic... which is where you come in!
If you like both Avatar and Totoro, say the word and your character/fursona can be in the pic. =) Interested? => comment. I'm not saying when the pic will be drawn (lalala, to do list), but I'm reasonably sure I'll get to it eventually. XD (It's not first come first served - I'll just draw a name out of a hat in the end.)
(Or just use the chance to chat about Avatar, lol.)

Lions are awesome
Posted 16 years agoI know the two most awesome lions in the world, and don't you try and prove there's a single lion even close to the level of awesome that is
kimbalion and
soraya, because you can't, there is none.
Now you might want to know how I know that these two are in fact at the very top of their royal species. Well, here's how:
This morning (aka 3pm) I was in the dorm's kitchen making breakfast when a friend came in with a packet that had been waiting for me downstairs, sporting a cute teddy bear wrapping paper. Breakfast had to wait, this was definitely more important.
Within the packet I found 65 items of food, most of which were Easter related candy (which don't exist in Japan), but there was also actual German bread (I love you both so much right now XD) and instant soup, titled "wedding soup" - that one I can't quite figure out. For the rest: OMG THANK YOU!
Now wait, son't close the tab yet, I'm not done! Or rather, Kimba and Soraya weren't done. There was clothes in there. Shirts. Don't jump to weird comclusions, shirts actually exist in Japan, but. BUT. None like these. Because these had pictures on them, pictures that I had drawn. My two favorite lions went and printed my pictures on SHIRTS! Can you believe it? Because I almost cn't and I got the things IN MY HANDS!
There's one where Jay holds his Screwdriver, and one with all three of us, and a white tank top with the computer colored little tiger, and there's even stuff printed on the sleeves!
Seriously, is takes some awesome friends to do that. I can't believe I should be so lucky, to have friends like that. *hugs you both like mad*

Sorry...
Posted 17 years agoHi everyone!
I know some of you are waiting for a picture, a badge, something, and I'm sorry I haven't gotten to it yet. I will get on a plane to Shizuoka, Japan on September 30th and there are still so many things to prepare I hardly know what to do first - sadly, drawing isn't one of them. I'm almost sure that what hasn't been posted so far won't be up anytime soon because it'll take me a while to settle in over there to find time to draw... as well as a scanner. ^^;;
Please be patient with me. This is the first time I'll be away from home for longer than a month (almost a whole year!) and I'm SO not prepared, especially mentally. XD
If any of you is interested in what I'm doing over there (besides studying), you can read all about it here. I'll try and upload stuff as soon as possible, but I can't tell when that's going to be. I have a to-do-list, I won't forget you, promise!
*hugs all around*
~Jay
LIST:
Jake in a Pool
bluehart with a cookie
Blackferret with a Mod-Hammer
Color Ryuuko
Kanako on a bouncy castle
Office Cat for KacyCat
DONE:
ConBadge for
theforgottencoon, musketeer-style
(some of these I promised, some I just want to do... mostly the former though XD)

Characters
Posted 17 years agoThere's something that has been the same for me, concerning drawing, for as long as I can remember: whatever I draw has a personality, a story. As a child a used to draw several very similar pictures showing the course a story would take in my head.
Which is why it seems only natural for me to develop a whole bunch of characters of the furry kind as well (not that my childhood characters weren't occasionally furry, but no one wants to see that XD). Some of them might only apper on one drawing, but they have a name and I have a pretty good idea of what they're like.
Is that weird? I feel like I'm creating them so quickly that many don't get the attention (picture-wise) they deserve (measured by the thought invested in them). By the time a picture is done, I'm on to the next character. And maybe I just wanted to draw that one species once and be done with.
I'm not talking about that kind of character, that holds about the same position as a fursona (though many won't see the difference I'm sure); see, there's Jay, who's basically me (in a way), and then there're Bold and the others, whom I "just" draw.
Just going through my gallery here on FA I came up with 18 characters (that have a name and/or show up more than once), and that's not counting Jay OR any of the many, MANY characters that I have written about but never drawn.
I admit that as personalities go, many of them aren't that "deep", more like spontaneous ideas that never got developed.
So, yeah. Your thoughts on the matter?
In case you're an artist/writer: do you have more than one character? If yes, how many?

Yay FA is back - but what if...?
Posted 17 years agoAs happy as I am that FA is finally back online (with slight changes) I can't help but think that it might be down again - you never know. What bugged me most was that I had no way to contact some of the people I only know here on FA, especially since I had finished drawings for some of them. So just in case: you can find me on devArt under the same nick - jeazard - and I upload pretty much all my art there ('cept if I were to do yiff, but fat chance), including non furry art (if you're interested). (And if you speak German, this is also my nick on furbase.)
I'd hate to lose track of y'all just because of a minor inconvenience that is one site being offline.
In other news: I know I still have some of the suggestions from my last journal entry to finish. I'm on it! XD

Suggest something for me to draw!
Posted 17 years agoInspired by the Musketeer Kitten that was swiftcutter's wish I was thinking that sometimes great things come from drawing what others suggest - so here it is:
Make a wish, a suggestion, post an idea, anything! And I'll TRY to draw it. No promises except one, that is I WILL give your idea a try. Just one thing: take a look at my gallery (and scraps?) and you'll know, roughly, what I can do, so make your suggestions reasonable mkay? Also, if I already DID draw what you're asking for... well then there's no point in suggesting it, right? XD
You may suggest your own character or one of mine, a species, a pose, a scene, anything you'd like to see. :3

Replying to comments (etc)
Posted 17 years agoFirst things first: I'd like to thank everyone who left comments, added my pictures to their favorites or even decided to watch me. :) That means a lot to me!
I recently uploaded quite a bunch of images (well for me that was a lot in one go) and to almost every comment I replied with at least a "thank you". Now I was wondering wether that bothered anyone... if every artist did that, our control panel would be spammed with comments, and we'd check each to see a "thx note" that needs to further reply.
I always thought it was polite to reply, but that might just be me. *shrugs*
Also, "thx for the watch" shouts: I don't leave them *every* time, but often enough (though I check the person's profile first in case they don't like that kinda thing) and was wondering what everyone thought about that.
So that's that... by the way, whatever you might say here, I don't think I'll stop replying to comments entirely (some people leave interesting thoughts that "escalate" into great conversations), don't worry! ^^;;
So yeah, thanks again. :)

Going to Japan
Posted 17 years agoAbout a week back I recieved an email telling me that my application for a university place in Japan (Shizuoka) had been approved. :3 Now there's still lots and lot sof paperwork to be doen before I can board the plane, but it's clear that I will be there for a whole year, starting October 1st 2008. A whole year in Japan! :O
Now I'm sure I will find the time to draw while I'm there, but I honestly don't think I'll be able to scan and upload them. So... no art for a year.
If you're interested in what I'm doing over there: I'll be writing a blog, using livejournal (click). There's not much there yet, naturally, but once I'm in Japan I'll fill it with tales and photos and whatnot. XD I'm seriously excited about the whole thing, I've never been there before (even though I've been studying the langue for almost three years now).
So yeah. Whoot! :D
