was sick, now back to work
Posted 7 years agoCame down with a pretty good fever onnnnnnn Monday, didn't make a notice for you guys bc idk I'm an idiot I guess. (mainly I was very focused on getting better, but I wish I had at least made a quick lil journal or something.)
I'm feeling much better, aside from having a raw throat and having to blow my nose every two seconds. So back to work for me!

FEW COMMISSION SLOTS LEFT, ALSO NEW (MOSTLY) LOWER PRICES***
Posted 7 years agoI'm really digging these wing-it commissions so I'm keeping 'em as a staple commission tier. Keep in mind that the wing-its won't involve WIPs!
• I'm offering $20 wing-it full-body flat-colored sketches. $35 for 2-character sketches. Please specify whether you'd like SFW or NSFW.
• I'm also offering $5 headshots (half their previous price!). I'm dropping the waist-ups from my listings from now on but if for whatever reason you still want a waist-up, I'm happy to take slots for those at $10 each.
• My regular commission slots are currently closed, but you can see the updated prices below should you wish to nab one in the future!
Sketch with Flat Color >>> $35 1-char
- $25 each additional char
- $10+ background
Lineart with Flat Color >>> $50 1-char
- $40 each additional char
- $35+ background
Cel Shade >>> $65 1-char

Heads up to anyone who commissioned me in 2017!
Posted 8 years agoSup guys- so I'm going through my paypal right now and marking all my invoices as "services rendered" so that there's no packing/tracking information needed, no loose ends on those invoices.
It tells me that it's going to email you each time, so I'm sorry ahead of time, especially for those of you that bought multiple commissions! If I could prevent it from bothering you I so would. I don't really need anything from you guys though, so if you do get an email feel free to ignore it! I'm just telling paypal that I don't ship out a physical product.
Thanks guys! I hope to keep on top of this from here on out.

Pssst! Patreon!
Posted 9 years agoHey guys, if you could take a look I'd really appreciate it! I still have to get an official ad up in my gallery for it and share it around, but I figure in the meantime whoever's interested in checking it out can do so:
Rewards involve a look at all the gross stuff I'm usually too self-conscious to post/my sketchbook, doodle requests lottery, custom sketch pages, and discounted commissions. (I'm open to ideas, too...!)
I really appreciate all the feedback on my last journal and I really want to give Patreon a shot. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, and that's fine! I'd be happy even if yall just took a look or spread the word. Thank you!!

I need all of your opinions again...!!
Posted 9 years agoSo I'm gonna be real transparent here, things have been really rough and I'm just not getting enough commissioners anymore to support myself; I never really have.
What I'm wondering is, how many of you would like to commission me but for some reason or another can't/won't? If it's something that I could improve, would you mind letting me know in a comment?
I have a suspicion that my prices are a factor. They are what they are so that I can support myself, but I can't support myself if I have no commissioners, either. I'm really at a loss what to do but I am considering lowering them a bit to make my work more accessible.
I've also been sitting on the idea of starting a Patreon for the past several months as well. If that's something that you guys would like to participate in, it would really help me be able to pay my bills if I had more consistent work. But I've been so scared to offer anything that I've kept silent about it for months and months... Is that... something you guys would be interested in? If Patreon is your jam, what kind of things do you like to see artists offer?
I'm really at a loss here or I wouldn't be making this journal... I know it's a tough time of year, too. The next few months are usually slow so I'm anticipating that as well. But I've been afraid to make this journal for a couple months because I'm scared that people will think I'm whining, or that I'm desperate for cash, which... idk? It's getting to that point? I try not to get too personal here but I don't know what else to do, if I can't make my commissions a more consistent source of income I can't last a whole lot longer and then I'm not sure what I'm going to do.
I'm sorry guys, I don't like to get into this kind of stuff. The way I see it, it's not your problem to worry about, and I've never liked talking about my problems to ask for commissions because I feel like I'm looking for pity or something. I promise, I'm not. A lot of my struggles are a mixture of my mental health and my own poor choices and this journal is less about asking for other people to pick up the pieces than it is trying to figure out a way that I can successfully clean things up myself. Unfortunately a lot of the things I've tried have not been making any notable progress.
Please consider dropping your two cents on commissioning me or the patreon issue? I appreciate whatever info you guys give. Thank you.

Yooo can I nip this in the bud
Posted 9 years agoSo I've been drawing good ol' Brionne the past few days and I'm really happy that people like it! Um something I had no idea existed was this big thing about people defaulting it to "female" because its a more femme looking mon? (Bullshit btw, I personally am not a fan of people favoring pokemon one way or another based solely on the way they look and I like to subvert that usually)
I want to mention this though so that it's out there instead of just buried in my TOS: I am personally very uncomfortable with words like shemale, cboy, trap, herm (hermaphrodite is ..more of a gray area for me), idk you've probably heard the list of terms before. I know there's a lot of controversy on this but for me personally they represent taking very diverse characters and reducing them to their set of genitals for fetishization, whether intended or not.
As someone whose fursona has shapeshifting/multiple components of genitalia and IDs as nonbinary, this is a very confusing and complicated line for me to draw, and I'm not always sure where to draw it. But to be safe I would prefer that, if you can remember, you please not use these words in conversation with me? They really just rub me the wrong way, though I truly believe that usually no harm is intended.
I'm also open to discuss this but I don't really have the energy for a big ol debate and I'm hesitant to even post this journal. Literally the only reason I'm saying this is in hopes that I can state my policy on this now and avoid confrontation in the future.
Thank you so much for understanding and if you have any questions or concerns, I will try my best to clarify, though like I said this is a big messy subject for me and I may not always have a concise answer.
TLDR I am happy to talk about and draw characters with whatever the fuck genitalia or ID or WHATEVER, I am uncomfortable with describing these characters with words i have seen used to "dehumanize" them

Jus a little seasonal message
Posted 9 years agoI genuinely hope everyone is having a safe and/or happy holiday so far... Whether you celebrate thanksgiving or not, I hope yours was alright and that if not there is a glimmer of sunshine off in the distance for you.
I am truly so thankful for the community here, even if I barely interact with it, even if I'm often too nervous to chat with anyone, or if I'm too shy to make friends. Even just by looking at my art or reading what I have to say, you have been so supportive. Jellybats has been one of the few small areas in which I've done anything right this year, and I wish I could give back somehow.
I hope it doesn't seem like I'm looking for pity or praise when I talk about my struggles here or how thankful I am for those of you that quietly follow this account. I really do just appreciate it and I want to make sure I say so once in a while.
This has been a rough year for so many of us, myself included. But a lot of you, especially those I work on commissions with, are so cheery and kind, Jellybats is a nice escape sometimes... So thanks to yall for making that possible, I appreciate it so much.
I really hope you guys have a lovely rest of your weekend~
EDIT: AND SORRY FOR NEVER UPDATING THE TRELLO QUEUE ILL GO DO THAT RIGHT NOW SORRY

IM BACK HOME and what the hec is FN im intrigued
Posted 9 years agoI had a lovely time with my girlfriend peachie-pie and my family at WDW and Universal Orlando for a week and a half. I feel so refreshed... I don't know if anyone besides Peaches really knew how stressed I was before going. It had been building up for over a year and anything could make me panic, from commissions and finances to what I was going to eat for breakfast or waking up an hour later than I wanted to. I don't know if the trip helped or if it's my new meds, probably both-- staying away from the internet could also have been a factor- but I feel awesome. I feel calm and pleasant and not too anxious. For now, haha.
I have to thank my followers and especially those commissioning me for helping make this trip a wonderful experience. At the last second I was able to fund my meals and a comfortable amount of souvenirs thanks to some generous customers and I can't thank you enough. I realize that theme park trips, especially to Disney and Universal, are nowadays a luxury, not to mention being able to come home with keepsakes, but it really does mean a lot to me. The exceptional service they offer at Disney always allows me to fully relax and feel more in control of my day, as opposed to feeling dirt poor and at the mercy of each new commission. Whether or not I could get this same result from cheaper escapes doesn't always matter to me- there's something about these rare splurges that I can share with those closest to me that are a little extra helpful to my morale. I grew up making very positive memories at Disneyland and Universal Hollywood with my family and it's something that has really stuck with me over the years.
If you're interested in what I picked up, the short answer is that I bought a lot (a loooot) of cat-themed items and tea from EPCOT, and not nearly as much from Universal/Islands of Adventure. Wizarding World way overprices their merch, which is kind of disheartening. I always want their ink and quill items and this trip I discovered their wax seals and quidditch merch, but to put together one Ravenclaw wax seal (seal, handle) was going to run me like $45, not including the wax which was $15 for a standard small candle-- I feel like that's not much more expensive than a lot of companies will charge for the same items, but I also feel like I can buy the same amount of wax for $4 and charging $15 for a small wooden handle is hard to sell me on??? So I grabbed some wizarding chocolates and called it a day. Whoof.
Anyhow, thank you for indulging me this journal. I normally try to keep these short but sometimes I like the idea of opening up a little bit more to you guys, since normally I'm so private. Sometimes I just like talking a little bit about how I've been. Thank you if you've read through this journal- nobody has to, obviously, but it's nice to imagine I'm not saying all of this to an empty room.
Also, furry network? What did I miss? I'm thinking of signing up. I like starting with clean slates and to be honest I just... really like the idea of any possible alternative to FA. /this site is garbagé and I really wish the community could settle elsewhere on the same scale... blah blah nothing yall haven't heard before. If I do start an account there, I'll let you guys know.

Alternate Jellybats contact info
Posted 9 years agoGenerally I keep my sn the same across websites and leave it at that, but I think I'd like to reiterate some other options for finding me outside FA- mainly because I rarely log on to other sites. Like I haven't checked Weasyl since last year I think?
I'm technically on tumblr as both Jellybats and Jellysmut, but they're a separate login from my main so I don't check them too often.
My official Jellybats email is jacquijellybats@gmail.com. If you're commissioning me, you can also use the email from which I send my invoices! Both emails send alerts to my phone so this is a gr8 way to emergency contact me.
That's it lmao, I don't get around much online.

Sketch comms open, health update
Posted 10 years agoThat first thing:
Opening up for I don't know, 2-4 slots of sketch commissions? Depends on how big they are.
As always:
• Base price includes 1 character.
• All listed prices/add-ons may increase based on commission complexity.
Sketch with Flat Color
$45
Additional Char: $30
Background: $20
Go ahead and comment below or PM me if you're interested, this is a super laid back queue.
That second thing:
Uhh I don't know how to start this off elegantly or whatever so: I'm between psychs and because of my own stupidity and discomfort with the psych I've been seeing, I've been off one of my meds forrrrr wow probably around 2 months now. It's getting pretty bad and it's really hurting my work.
I see my new psych later this month. Until then, and probably a week or two after, I think I'll be stuck in this funk unfortunately. That's why I'm only taking sketch commissions, at least for now- I want to keep working, but I don't want to get into any projects that won't be good for me while I'm sick.

Question for you: what in-stream comms should I offer?
Posted 10 years agoThe short of it: I miss streaming commissions. I like checking in with clients in real-time and I like getting the finished pieces out to you guys faster. The biggest barrier has been my awful internet connection; where I'm currently situated, my wifi connection is weak and cuts out randomly. No bueno for streaming, frustrating for all of us.
This has been on my mind a lot lately and I'm thinking about borrowing internet some nights so that I can offer livestream commissions again. The current plan is to do one test-run stream, one afternoon/evening for several hours. If that goes well, I would like to offer future streams, but if not, it'll have to wait until I move out of my current home.
I'm setting up my price sheet for the stream and I wanted your guys' opinion, since you're the ones that would be buying art:
(1) What types of slots would you like to be available? Keep in mind they should be reasonably small. The idea is to offer quick commissions that can be finished in-stream, ideally a few at a time. By this I mean things like sketches, minis/chibis, pokemon/feral-only pieces, solo pin-ups, etc. These commissions are naturally quicker.
(2) What day/s of the week do you like to watch streams, or does it not matter? I know that work can be a frustrating barrier for many people. I will be taking advance slot reservations, if that makes a difference. You could potentially reserve the commission and not attend the stream, but that would essentially make your commission a wing-it, as you would not be in-stream to request edits.
Thanx guys!~

commissions!! [FULL]
Posted 10 years agoCommissions are open! All slots are first-come, first-serve, and are placed in my queue in the order they are paid. If you have any questions about my commission process or what I will and won't draw, please refer to my Terms of Service!
Review the prices below and leave a comment to claim a slot. I'll then PM you for details!
*A quick note, on this journal only: the price increase is not negotiable. I have been losing a lot of money and time on these commissions, and it goes without saying that I need to be making fair wage. This way I can also devote enough stress-free time to ensure that you are getting the quality artwork you deserve. I thank you for understanding and look forward to working with you guys. <3*
• Prices are for one character. Additional character fees are listed.
• All prices are base prices and are subject to increase in the event that your commission is complex.

Quick commissions update + THANK YOU
Posted 10 years agoCurrent commissioners-- still working on your stuff every day! That piece I uploaded today was a large commission that I had to crank out all at once. The rest of you will still be receiving updates and WIPs slowly but surely. (:
I just got off my ass to sort my gallery into folders, and I realized I've only been on FA for ~2 years, which is wild. It feels like much longer to me. Running these commissions has been a learning experience to say the least. It's embarrassing for me to talk about, but those of you that have been watching me for a while will know that I deal with depression and anxiety on a daily basis; it can make getting work done a really fucking laborious endeavor. I still get flashbacks to when I first started in 2013 and I was struggling through an enormous queue of sale commissions. I think I would disappear for weeks-months at a time under the pressure? I like to think things have gotten better since then.
I guess my point is that I would never expect any client to deal with my bullshit schedule of updating my queue and commission progress, and yet I have lovely people who have been consistently understanding of delays and hiccups they should never have had to endure. I always want to express that I appreciate it so much, and I am always trying to improve to make your experience better and your commissions nicer. I truly mean that, no matter how slow my progress is going. The support I've received here on FA has enabled me to continue using commissions to better my skills and work ethic, and I am so grateful. My attitude towards sitting down to work is much healthier and less daunting than it was two years ago.
I like to project a bit of my personality online, and it's so frustrating that it seems like the only way I've been able to do that is occasionally posting journals and sending PMs explaining my mental illness. (Which I hate doing so much. I never intend to use it as an excuse but in the end, it's not far from one.) I'd like to post more non-commission work to my gallery. I'd like to stream more, but my internet situation is too shitty and that's not gonna happen for a long while. I'd like to chat more in general, but I hate casual communication on this godforsaken website. Maybe I can figure out a way to be active on tumblr, which is much easier for me.
In any case, I just wanted to say thanks and I hope to keep making more cool stuff for you guys! (:
