Happy End of the World day!

Jenks has run off to the Caribbean!
Yeah, going to be heading out on an 8 day cruise tomorrow. Gonna take some time with my family for one last big vacation before my brother and I move out.
So if anyone needs me... um.. well I guess you could swim out into the Gulf of Mexico and try to catch the ship I'll be on. Other than that, imma be unwinding and drawing a ton while I'm away from everything!

Doctor Who?
Posted 14 years agoha ha, play on words..
but seriously, I've never seen a single episode of this show and I've noticed a LOT of people like it. Anyone out there have an opinion on it that would be helpful?
Also, I plan on getting those free art commisions done this week. Life's just been a mess lately and I'm starting to get things back in order.

-you to specify traditional (pencil) or digital sketch
I'm open to drawing a lot, just please, nothing nasty like scat watersports or gore.
Sketches will be completed in the order posted.

Posted 14 years agoIf any of you have or find pics of the ragdoll dragon and chosky that where at FWA, could you please link me to them? Trying to find some good ones of them seeing as I forgot to take any picture them before
dragonmelde and I left for FWA.
dragonmelde and I left for FWA.FWA breakdown
Posted 14 years agoWell, to start, FWA was an utter blast. This was my third year going and it just always seems to get better and better.
Ended up arriving at the Sheraton at around 5 ish and got into the room ok, we decided to do six to a room and I'm not sure it was the wisest of choices, but we made do.basically couples got the beds and the two singles got the floor. After that I suited up and took my firdt foray out as Jenks. Thought it would be weird and awkward, but it was a blast, especially seeing as the suit was a female form one.
Got to bed a lil later, then woke up and made our way to the artist's alley where
dragonmelde
kirsa_tux , her gf, and I set up and proceeded to draw and stuff for a few hours. I decided seeing as I suck I would just do free sketches and to my suprise, I had a few people take me up on it. Even got a few tips which I really appreciated.
Afterwards checked the dealers den and stuff, then just sort of hung out in and out of suit for the rest of the evening.
Saturday was mainly spent in and out of the dealer's den buying badges, "cards," buttons, and all manner of things. Also managed to get into suit for the fursuit parade and froup photo. After all that
dragonmelde and I even managed to buy some artwork in the art auction, now I can finally take down that stupid "sportsmen for bush" sign mom had framed from a pressidential ralley and put up something more intelligent. after all that we made it to watch Matthew Ebel perform, which is always great, and then went to the hyper artwork panel with Gideon, which was a lot more informative than I was expecting. We then went to bed.
Sunday was spent running around grabbing art we had commisioned and making sure we didn't miss everything, got everything packed into the vehicles for the ride home, watched
Kouros_Akanari sing "bring on the men" in the furries got talent event, then stayed for closing ceremonies. Really excited about the Moulin Rouge theme for next year.
All in all, I very much enjoyed myself. I met a lot of new furs, talked to a bunch of artists, and just enjoyed a weekends to unwind. Can't wait for next year!

Dead Space 2
Posted 14 years agoWell, it's 2 am, I need to be in class in 6 and a half hours, and I just beat Dead Space 2.
Ah hell why not type up a review.
Anyways, guess I'll start with a big difference from the first game, namely Isaac's voice. This was actually a plus for me, having played through Dead Space 1 more times than I can count, it got a little tiresome trudging through dark, dreary hallways and having no dialogue save for "Oi, Isaac, fix this shit, kill this thing, Oh dear Jesus we're all gonna die!"So hearing the main character actually say something instead of just nodding through the conveniently written conversations was awesome.
Now I've heard a lot of people actually saying they don't like the voice that Isaac has. In my opinion however, they couldn't have done a better job as far as the character is concerned. People say the voice is too ordinary and such, but in a world of gravely voiced Master Chief and Marcus Fenix clones laden with concentrated machismo, an engineer who actually sounds like an engineer is a welcome sound to my ears! Have we really gotten to the point we can't think a character sounds good unless they sound like they could easily be at home in a Barber Shop quartet with Kratos, Duke Nukem, and Soap (lol @ Jenks using a MW2 reference because he ran out of characters to name off/insult)
After that we come to story and DEAR GOD what a story it tells. I was halfway expecting them to drop the ball and just tack some crap together directly following the ending of Dead Space. However I was pleasantly surprised when the game starts with Isaac bound up in a straitjacket in the mental wing of some space hospital out by the remains of the moon Titan. I would go into more detail than that however someone will definitely read this and start shrieking that I put spoilers in here without a warning and I'd like to say FUCK YOU whoever that little twat may be.
Basically the story is awesome, and very very creepy.
Play style is pretty much the same as in Dead Space, however there are a few button remaps that actually do well to help the game become more fun to play, such as making the reload button the X instead of the A, which I can definitely appreciate seeing as I was one of those that was flailing on the X for dear life and wondering why Isaac couldn't process the task of reloading. I was then embarrassed when I realized it was the A button and you had to do it while Aiming... Fuck you all I do NOT read the tutorials like I should and I KNOW IT.
What little multiplayer I could find was actually quite enjoyable. Like most games of it's kind I think Dead Space 2 tend to suffer from the "I'm not a Modern Warfare or Halo game" syndrome in that after the initial release NO ONE will even touch the multiplayer. A fact that EA decided to solidify when they decided you have to buy a pass to play online if you purchased the game used. I find this a little odd seeing as used games are all the rage and yet EA is clinging to their "BUY IT NEW SO WE GET YOUR MONEY" beliefs. Honestly I think the practice is greedy and whoever decided to implement this into Dead Space 2 should have their testicles removed and fed to wild dogs.
What was I saying? oh yeah, multiplayer. The multiplayer basically functions like a mixture of Left 4 Dead and TF2 in that one team plays a bunch of engineers trying to complete objectives and the other team gets to be the lovable necromorphs and try to om nom the engineers into mushy strawberry colored pulp. The game lets you level up MW2 style and unlock goodies for your engineer, while the necromorphs don't seem to get much of anything. Noth that they really need it, right off the bat you have access to The Pack, a Lurker, the disgustign one that vomits, and a Slasher, with how long you decide to wait in respawn determining which one of these beasties you can pick. Once you choose an undead abomination you pick a vent to spawn through and wreak havoc on the poor humans.
That's about all I care to type right now, gonna go get some shuteye before class.

Updates and stuff
Posted 14 years agoWell, getting bored of seeing that birthday journal so let's just bump that down a notch shall we?
Basically life is kind of crazy right now. Realizing I'll have to move out of my parent's place soon as I'll be finishing up my degree and I'll have to stop being a lazy bum and get a real job.
In the meantime I'm trying to work on a resume for an internship with a local graphic design place. Coming along alright, but I'm just not sure what to put on it other than "I'm a student in graphic design and have done some freelance stuff on the side."
Though before that I'm working on getting a new part time job. Subway is getting worse as the owners are trying to get us to work as much as we can while paying us as little as they can. They also complained about the amount of time people are ASKING off for, which I find completely silly. All because you ask for it doesn't mean you'll get it.
Anyways, on to happier stuff. I'll be attending FWA (Furry Weekend in Atlanta) this coming march, hopefully I'll be able to get my suit done and get enough drawing practice in to merit a commission or two. Really excited about the suit to be honest. Instead of the usual partial fursuit
dragonmelde is helping me make a ragdoll version of Jenks, complete with button eyes and patchwork skin. Figure if it's not cute it'll be creepy, either of which works.
Oh and I proved my unending Geekiness by participating in a Dungeons and Dragons campaign... don't judge me you furry lot!
Anyways, that's about it for this journal, hope you all have a great day!

Portable Drive is kaput
Posted 15 years agowell, apparently there is an error on my portable hard drive that warrants Formatting.
What does this mean? It means that all of my old scans and artwork are now gone, kind of depressing, but I guess I needed a fresh start.

This Is A Journal
Posted 15 years agoI should post more of them.
But yeah, just kind of realizing I'm having a lot more free time this semester and sadly I'm catchinh myself filling that time with video games and internet browsing, trying to get back into drawing a lot but it's hard getting motivated.
So, what do all of you people do when you want to draw, but just don't feel like starting a drawing or are worried it'll look terrible when you're done?

Goals
Posted 15 years agoAlright, I've realized lately that I've been stagnant in all I do. Knowing this, I've decided to compile a list of things I want to have accomplished this time next year. I know that if I wait and make this a new years thing that it will be just that, a list of new years resloutions I'll be making just because it's a tradition. Therefore, what follows is a short list that I will probably add to of things that I want to have done, or be in the process of doing this time next year.
1. Excersize: by this I don't mean run on a treadmill every now and then. I want to get into a fitness regime that will carry over into my adult life.
2. Produce more artwork: I rarely, if ever, draw anymore. I want to start telling myself more that I can do well instead of just sit there and say "well I'm not good at this, so I'll never be good at it. This is probably my biggest stumbling block and needs to be removed asap. This time in 2011 I want to be steadily making quality pieces of art I can be proud of.
3.have a set career path in mind: I tell everyone that I'm going into graphic design, but to be honest I don't have a set idea of what I want to do in that field, I have a vague, amorphous idea, but other than that nothing set. I don't wanna be that guy that finishes a four year degree and ends up working a crap job simply because he never made a plan and stuck with it.
4. GET OUT OF SUBWAY: this is a big one, currently I make just above minimum wage making five dollar footlongs for people who don't appreciate it. While it's been a good experience, teaching me to be nice and work with people, it's one I feel has run it's course and I'm getting to the point I need to work somewhere else.
5. Have some financial security: I have a problem with saving money, I flat out don't do it. I have a bad habit of thinking "well I have it, I can spend it" lately I've been wrestling with it and while it hasn't gotten me into debt or anything, it's something that needs to end, this time next year I want to have at least 3k saved up, if not more. I won't touch this money at all and will just add to it until I have a good savings to be secure with.
That is my list so far. I really want to encourage everyone who reads this to make a list for themselves. This world we've made for ourselves is a nice one, but we need to take steps to better ourselves.
Never settle for less than your full potential, because to do so is an insult to yourself and all you stand for
Sincerely,
Jenks

Updatage!
Posted 15 years agoWell, I'm now in full on summer mode, which means that instead of doing schoolwork that has me around computers a lot, I'm now out and about a lot more often, so sorry to anyone that thinks I've up and dissapeared. basically been hanging out and working more. Gonna try to make some good money this summer and actually hold on to the majority of it.
I'm gonna try to draw more. I think I'll set a goal of one finished drawing a week or more. I also want to get better at using photoshop and stuff like that.
Other than that everything is pretty normal, playing some Starcraft 2 beta, which I'm really enjoying. Last time I played RTS I was a little young to really enjoy it. Spent way too much time making a pretty little base and not really making units, blah blah blah. Basically I'm old enough that I can actually strategize and I'm loving it!
well, that's about it, have a great day everyone!

Post FWA report
Posted 15 years agoWell, was gonna write this last night when I got home, but I was having a bad case of the tired so I'm doing it now!
FWA was a blast this year, saw a lot of awesome artists, picked up a few tips on improving my work. I even... Omg.. Drew stuff!!
It is kind of funny what a weekend of studying other people's art can do for an artist, some of the people I was there with said that I had a noticable improvement over the weekend and that has me excited.
I got to hang out with a lot of cool furries I normally don't get to see which was awesome. Met a few new faces, though honestly next year I want to be a little more sociable. Missed a lot of opportunities to meet new people.
Got to watch an awesome Matthew Ebel concert. That guy nows how to rock a piano and it makes me want to trey to catch more of his online concerts. Watched 2 the ranting gryphon after that, which is always funny, especially since he went into reverend mode and told everyone a heartfelt story ending in a very true life lesson.. "Foxes like dick"
But yeah, going to post some pics and video I got (managed to actually use my camera in between drawing and dressing as the banana phone again). All in all had an awesome weekend and I really wanna go back next year!

FWA bound
Posted 15 years agoWell, after class today I'll be meeting up with a bunch of the local furs and carpooling it to Furry Weekend in Atlanta! I'm oddly nervous even though this is my second time ever going.
Taking commisions!
Posted 15 years agoAlright, so I need some extra cash for Furry Weekend in Atlanta. This means that I'll be opening commisions up!
Basically, all I'm asking is a five dollar minimum, but feel free to price it however you like. I'll be taking five commisions to start with. Simply note me with the basics of what you want and we'll go from there.

January-ness
Posted 16 years agoWell, it's January again, figuring since I didn't post a new years entry I'd cover everything here.
Not a whole lot going on, classes have started back and I've decided I'm going to buckle down and apply myself. I've been having too many close calls as far as my scholarship is concerned and I'm tired of it. This is definitely one of a few New Years Resolutions, the rest being to..
1) Get into shape. I've always been in somewhat good shape, but I'm tired of the jiggly and it must leave 3:
2) POST more art. I kept in line with my last years resolution to draw more, however, I haven't posted nearly as much as I wanted to so I'm going to rectify that this year.
3) Improve as an artist and use all of my resources to do so. I'm a Graphic Design Major, and honestly I think I'm a horrid artist. This needs fixing stat.
4) Post more on the sites I'm on. I don't really post on my old websites anymore, and I really should. Red vs Blue, Deviantart, certain forums, even Twitter I almost never use (if you wanna follow me, I'm at @JenksChosky)
That's about it for the list. Other than resolutions, had something very heart wrenching happen yesterday. for over six or seven months I've kept an aquarium with a beautiful Water Cow Goby in it (that my Girlfriend lovingly named Jack Nicholson). However, last weekend after new years I left for a Conference in Atlanta (OMG CHRISTFEST) and the day I got back, he burned himself badly on the tank heater. At first it looked like even though it was bad, he was going to recover. However after a couple of days he became more lethargic, stopped eating, and just started to show that he was in severe pain.
Yesterday I woke up and he could barely move, ever time he tried to swim his tail would twitch and spasm in pain and he would go maybe a few inches before rolling onto his side and drifting. I felt so horrible for him, and I wanted to believe he would recover, but when I got home from classes later that day it was apparent he was slowly getting worse.
I had to do the hardest thing I've ever done to a pet, I carefully took him out of the aquarium, put him into a water filled plastic bag, and put him in the freezer before I left for work. I feel silly, but I was crying like a baby the whole time. I know I did the right thing, he was suffering and he could barely move, but still, I realize now I had grown such an attachment to that fish. He'd eat from my hand, sit in my palm, heck, even when I was doing things in the aquarium he would sit on my arm.
So, here's to Jack, the coolest fish I've ever had. going to bury him in the back yard next to the rest of our deceased pets later today, (he's kind of too big to flush and I think he deserves more than being thrown in the trash.)
Other than that bit of sadness, the rest of the month is looking up, building a new aquarium stand for my Christmas present (100 gallons of hard, slick aquarium baby!)and it looks like I'll enjoy my classes.
Also, on the 15th of this month is the singlemost important day to me out of every day of the year! Yes, the 15th is none other than MAH BIRFDAY!!!!! :D
Hee hee, well, that's about it for now, hope you're all having a good day!

5. I'll tell you my first memory of you.
6. I'll tell you what animal you remind me of.
7. I'll ask you something I've always wondered about you.
8. I'll tell you my favorite thing about you.
9. I'll tell you my least favorite thing about you.

Post Halloween resport
Posted 16 years agoThere is no feeling quite like blowing gummies out of your nose laughing at a friend dressed up in an incredibly racist costume.
That is all.
That is all.
