I dunno how often I'll update it, I mostly created it to follow people abandoning Tumblr whom I can't find elsewhere, but hey, it's good to have options.

Spring Cleaning
Posted 7 years agoI went through my watchlist, cleaning out the defunct accounts, as well as non-artist accounts and people whose interests had skewed away from my own or vice-versa, through nobody's fault.
If I have affected you in this, then I apologize, it was not intended as a condemnation, just as a normal shift over time. :)

State of the Skunk
Posted 8 years agoHello, folks!
In an effort to improve myself as an artist, and to try to get more connection with my watcher-base I'm trying to stream more often. Here's the catch there: A lot of my work is not suitable for FA, and as I recall, linking to things that are against the FA Terms of Service and AUP is a nono. I don't know how easy to enforce in this case this rule is, so to be safe I'm not going to announce streams here unless I'm completely sure that the content would not cause are Fur-Affinite Overlords palpitations. If you want to keep track of my streams, and are okay with the possiblity of seeing stuff FA doesn't like, follow my InkBunny account at the following link:
InkBunny.Net/JeremyMikales
My next goal is to start taking commissions. I don't really have anything set up towards that end at this time though. Particular concerns are how much people would pay for my art at various states of completion, and what (If any) Terms of Service I should enact.
Sound off in the comments here if you have ideas towards this end.
Thanks for your input! :D

Posted 11 years agoTomorrow is my birthday. Sadly, due to work being really damned slow the last few week, I will not have the day off like I want (Well, most likely. It's still a little slow at work). Its just as well, as my local friends are pretty well all going to be busy all weekend anyway.
Anyway! I want to thank all of you nice folks out there who watch me, especially those of you who take time to Like my pictures and leave comments. I am flattered that you like the sporadic results of me flailing at a tablet, and hope that I will be able to provide you with more competently produced work in the future. ^.^

47 Ronin
Posted 11 years agoHad a bit of time on my hands so I walked down to the Alamo Drafthouse and saw 47 Ronin. It was... okay.
It really wants to be a sweeping Wuxia epic, and nothing is quite there for it. It tries really hard, but the cinematography and characterization just aren't quite there. There are some impressive pieces. There's a great piece where Oishi goes to free Kai from slavery on an island held by the Dutch that is really neat, but that's mostly because it feels like they snipped that part out of a Pirates of the Carribean movie, and its not particularly long either. Another part that I liked involved Kai and Oishi going into a temple held by Tengu to ask for swords to fight their enemy with. Of course, I was dissappointed when these Tengu are snake men, and not the long-nosed bird people I have previously seen depicted as Tengu in the past.
The characterization is weak. Almost all of the characterization goes to Keanu Reeves' Kai, and Reeves is not a strong enough actor to carry this movie on his own, as is basically asked of him. Kai is half Chinese, half European (English, I think they said), Kai was found as a teenager, living as a wild man in a haunted forest, and brought back to live on Lord Asano's estate. Only Asano and his daughter Mika think he amounts to anything at all, to the point where Oishi is saved from a rampaging beast early in the film and laments that its better to be killed by the beast than saved by a half-breed. He does repent for this later. Asano is well acted, but due to the nature of his role, that doesn't really amount to much. The villain, Lord Kira, is about as two dimensional as they come, a smirking, smug jackass who does what he does for no more than a naked lust for power. He's aided by Mizuki, a shape-shifting witch who is probably a Kitsune though the word is never actually used. She gives an utterly wretched performance, trying to be sensually evil but just comes off erratic and annoying.
Speaking of the witch, this movie is advertised very badly. They want you to think this is going to be a high-fantasy feudal epic, and it's not. Mizuki gets a few impressive effects scenes, Kai and the Tengu have a thing where they can blur themselves into their clothes to move really fast, and there's an appropriately Oriental Adventures-ish monster at the beginning, and that's basically it. Nobody else gets any impressive powers. They even set it up so they could have them; Kai explains that the Tengu swords are magical and that they would do different things depending on who wielded them, but nothing comes of it. The freaky-looking guy who is tattooed up like a skeleton? He's one of the sailors on the Dutch Island, he gets to be intimidating and then shoot at Kai and Oishi, and then they outrun him and escape. I don't think he even dies.
One thing they do manage, is to lay out the setting effectively. They emphasize how important ritual, tradition, and rules are in their society, to explain why they do things the way they do, and why they end the movie the way they do, which could be very strange in a less... rigorous culture like ours.
On the whole, I was pretty disappointed. I give it a C; If it looks interesting to you, and you can catch it for free, go for it. Otherwise, there are plenty of other movies about the 47 Ronin, I have to imagine that at least one is better than this one.

What a strange start to a day.
Posted 12 years agoWent out to my car for work today and found that my car was broken into. Apparently, by the world's most inept thief. They didn't take anything, apparently they just rifled through my car for loose change. The glove box was dumped on the passenger seat, and they had raked out the garbage under my seats, but didn't take the stereo (And I had forgotten to take the faceplate off too). They got into the trunk and took a set of road reflectors and my tool box, but left them in front of my car. They left the jack and the jumper cables in my car. It's very weird.
They also didn't break any windows which I am glad for. My driver's door doesn't lock so they wouldn't have to. Good thing that, since the lock broke, I've gotten into the habit of not leaving anything valuable in the car.

Another year gone
Posted 13 years agoI turn 34 tomorrow. I want to kick back and relax but I've have a series of misadventures lately that mean I need as much cash as I can get so I have to work.
Heh.
Posted 13 years agoI haven't cleaned out my new submissions queue in about a week and a half, so I went through and knocked out everything that I was obviously not interested in.
It probably says something that I went from over a thousand submissions to exactly 250.

It's Good to Have Goals.
Posted 13 years agoYou probably can't tell with how sloppy my art is, but I am a recovering perfectionist. This isn't as good a thing as one might think, as becoming a good artist (let alone great) is a long process that requires determination, a willingness to learn from mistakes, and above all practice. In the past it has not been unheard of for me to set huge, ambitious projects for myself, only to find myself frustrated when it doesn't turn out the way I pictured it, often because the task I'd set for myself was well above my skill level.
My goal, ultimately, is to get myself to a point where I post regularly, but don't post anything I wouldn't save. (This is saying something, over on FA, on a given page of 60 submissions, I save generally 1-3 images). There's a lot of stuff I feel I need to work on for that: Line control, color selection, composition, expression and design. I use too many stock poses, and my characters and their outfits lack panache. I follow artists who can take a character wearing a simple outfit, or no outfit at all, put them into a simple scenario and by subtleties of posture and expression make that picture awesome. That's where I want to be.
I also rely too much on porn, but that's not unusual. The sites I post to inordinately reward porn over art that is less sexually charged. I must confess it is frustrating when a picture I post that I'm very happy with gets less than fifty views and less than ten +favs because there isn't enough hardcore fetish sex going on in it.
My art is not where it should be, but I don't hate it like I did as little as ten years ago. I'm trying to get better, and I will get better. Thanks to all of you for your support.

Announcement (Inkbunny and such)
Posted 15 years agoFor the last nine months, I have been cultivating an occasionally-mentioned side account for porn and fetish art I draw. I have not done anything to promote this account openly because I wander into some very polarizing fetishes and did not want to alienate any of my watchers over here. Some of this has frankly involved cub art. With the new AUP I have considered my options and have decided to move all my questionable art to Inkbunny. Since my InkBunny account is under the name JeremyMikales and therefore named for the same character as my FA account, I'm dropping the double-blind between the two accounts.
For the record, the alt-account, which will be closing soon, is
Lesley. I will probably be taking the opportunity to clean house some while I make the move, so if you want to browse that gallery and save anything, it should be up for a week or so.
I am very much going to continue posting art to this account. In fact, a strangely large amount of art I had on the Lesley account wasn't terribly adult in nature, so I will probably post more now that I don't have to maintain two separate sets of context.
Thank you for everyone who's being understanding and open-minded about this. I invite everyone to watch me at InkBunny.Net/JeremyMikales. Inkbunny has robust filtering options, so with a minimum of fuss you should be able to avoid anything you don't care for.
Thanks to everyone!
Jeremy E. Mikales.

A warning though, her gallery is severely NSFW.

Posted 15 years agois this coming Saturday the 19th. Maaaaaan, 32. It's not THAT old, is it?
Anyway, if any kind soul out there feels like doing something for me, all I want is a picture of Moonlight, my hippy bunny. He's really simple. Young bunny, about 12ish, wearing classical hippy-clothes (Tie dies, peasant shirts, leather vests, bell-bottoms, birkenstocks...) He's got white fur, blue eyes, and short, very wavy blonde hair that has been died a rainbow of colors. Also, little rose-colored sunglasses. He's perpetually cheerful, slightly dumb(But in an endearing way), and loves to cook.
I'm working up on a new ref, but here are some older pics I've done of him.
That's why they call me Mr. Farenheit!
Yeep!
Yay, Teriaki! (Still probably my favorite picture of him, as far as I've done)
Collage-Age Moonie (Fast forward about 7 or 8 years)
And not to be forgotten, there is THIS awesome piece by
danaume (Warning, pic contains a naughty word)

My goal for this week...
Posted 15 years agoDraw. Quit worrying about creating the great masterpiece that will bring artistic fulfillment, or even finished pictures. Little character sketches, graphite doodles and inked blues would be fine.
What I've been up to
Posted 15 years ago(Crossposted to my LiveJournal, apologies in advance if that means some of the linking code doesn't work...)
Things have settled for the most part, but now I have alot on my plate.
City of Heroes has released Dark Mirror, the Seventeenth free expansion, in which accusations are made, dark secrets are revealed, and more information about the mysterious dimension of Praetoria
are whispered. Also, their Second paid expansion Going Rogue is in preorder, with a bennie that people who buy the expansion before it goes live get to play the new powersets (Dual Pistols for a variety of classes, and Demon Summoning for Masterminds) early. As in now. So, I've been playing that alot.
As an early birthday present, my father helped me buy a WACOM Bamboo Pen&Touch tablet. Bamboo is their low-end line, but I've no experience with tablets and this is the largest of the line. Using it is something of an adjustment, but I think it will work out nicely.
Friday my gaming group started a campaign of Torg. Torg takes place in a modern setting where Earth is being invaded by a series of alternate realities, hoping to mine the very energy that makes up reality from it. My character is a renegade knight of the land known as the Cyberpapacy. In his world, the Western Schism ended with the triumph of the Avignon Papacy in France (Rather than the Roman Papacy of the Real World). This regime has been able to suppress technological and cultural progress and maintain their power over secular society. During the invasion of Earth however, rogue elements from another reality interceded and forced a technological singularity on the world, which the church has since embraced and moved to control (Hence Cyberpapacy), resulting in a dark cyberpunk dystopia, but one where people live under religious oppression instead of corporate.
And lastly, in a few weeks I will begin running a campaign of Mage: The Ascension. The story is that seven powerful spirits have been released from their bindings, and the party is tasked with their retrieval and/or destruction. The party at present consists of a Catholic Schoolgirl (From the religiously-themed Celestial Chorus) who released the spirits in the first place, as well as her handler (A chanter, also from the Chorus), an occult investigator (From the European Mysticism themed Order of Hermes), and an iconoclastic bicycle messenger with authority issues (An orphan, who are self-taught and belong to no tradition), and a mummy who is interested in maintaining universal balance.
My days are packed, whoo.

Lines, Lines, Everywhere the Lines
Posted 15 years agoI've been building up alot of sketched and inked pieces I hope to work on this weekend. Woulda done more last weekend but I was busy with... other things. <.< >.>
I've been having trouble with scanning, and I was hoping that someone could help me with the crispness of my lines. My current practice is to draw pictures out with Non-Photo Blue pencil, ink with india ink tech pens, and then scan in black and white at 300dpi. I'm using The GIMP 2.6. My scanner is a slightly old but still very spry Canon CanoScan LiDE 50 7.1.
My lines keep coming out kinda jaggy, and while my inking isn't that good (I'm still practicing), it ain't THAT bad. Anyone have any advice?

Into each life some rain must fall/but too much is falling i
Posted 15 years agoThe last two days were pretty much crap all all around. It all started Tuesday night, when I got home from work and found that I had recieved an overdraft notice from my bank, informing me that I had radically miscalculated my finances while in Texas. I resolved to go to the bank the next day to check on the situation, see how bad it is and if there's anything I can do about it. So, I left early Wednesday to go to the bank. As I got in the car I noticed the Check Engine light on, which concerned me, since it hadn't been on the night before, but left, figuring there was nothing I could do about it now and hoping it wasn't anything serious. I got on the freeway, and as I got up to freeway speeds my car quit accelerating and shuddered a little as if I were going over some bad road, and the Check Engine light began to flash. I quickly exit and turn my car off hoping that it's something that would reset itself if I did that. No such luck, as no it wouldn't go above, say, 20mph.
I got myself somewhere out of traffic and spent some time panicking. I made some calls and got my car towed to a shop, where they told me the Coil Housing had cracked, and this was allowing electricity to go places other than where it was supposed to. This actually is somewhat good news, because I was afraid it was a transmission problem and they'd want 3-4k for a rebuild. Because I had no transport, I had to call in at work Wednesday, because I get off after the busses stop running and I don't know of anyone who lives in my area.
So, I got my car running again with the help of my parents, which is good but kinda sucks because I just negotiated terms of getting out of my previous debt literally two weeks ago. On top of that, I checked the bank and found that I am about $100 in the hole right now. This is distressing to me because I'm not sure what I'm going to do about funds for the next week until my paycheck goes through again, not to mention the fact that the check is only going to be for three days worth of work.

Posted 16 years agoI just got back from Thanksgiving dinner. I'm full and I'm feeling good.
So, I just want to say Thank You to all you people out there watching my account. I don't know why most of you do it, but I ain't complaining. Thanks for your support.
I also want to say thanks to all the really great artists who I watch. Most of you don't watch me in return, but thank you anyway.
Wherever you live and whatever you're doing today, I hope you have had and continue to have a great time.

Awesome exotic animals
Posted 16 years agoI don't usually care for it when people post alot of photos to their account (To each their own, I just usually do not find the content compelling), but tonight I stumbled upon
Joleii, who is posting lots of photos of animals taken at the Frankfurt Zoo. They vary from some stuff you don't have to go very far to see, like raccoons, to completely weird and awesome stuff like Aye-ayes. Go look!
