As many know, the last few months have been pretty rough on me. I am currently recovering both physically and financially but, sadly will be going offline for the next month or so due to my moving to a new apartment. I will TRY to have atleast 2-3 updates a week starting May 10th but as i'll have no internet access myself i'll have to send the updates at the library via my netbook. I will try to keep everyone updated via here, facebook and twitter when I can.

hi everyone,

I wish I had good news but I don't. the past month was one of the worst i've ever had. I was assaulted, found out my health status is not good and may be cancer related then I was evicted by my landlord and now i've been robbed of almost $3000 in video games and systems. I'm currently looking for a new place to live as well as trying to replace what little I can from my video game collection which i'll post below if anyone can help there. My creativity has been sapped and stress has almost made me kill myself on several occasions this month. I am currently getting help for that though and do appreciate the help all my friends have offered. You are my true family. and I thank you for always being there for me... I can't promise much right now comic wise but i'll try my damndest to get atleast a few pages done up sooner or later. right now though I need to leave this toxic environment and find a new place to call home. please forgive me if i'm a bit slow in getting anything new done over the next while.. all that has happened has forced me to stop production on several things as they are simply no longer in my budget to do. I'm hoping to work with a few folks soon though on scripts for other comic projects and hope you'll support those when released. For now though, please send good vibes my way. I really need them. no prayers though i'm not a believer :P no offence...

hi All,

As I was assaulted(LONG story) the other day(don't worry, i'm in much better shape than he is) and am recovering from that i'm unable to get new pages of Changes posted till at least Sunday if my arm is up to it by then as I have a torn muscle and quite a goosegg on the side of my face...

*WARNING!* some of what i'm about to say is very personal and could offend or sadden some readers.

On Dec. 26th around 4 AM I woke up bleeding out anally. I rushed myself to the hospital to get checked on and make sure I was okay. I am not. The last time this happened to me I had to stop my HRT treatment for my own health and safety (atleast according to my doctor at the time) and as I cannot get a blood test unless i'm put to sleep due to my needle phobia and being extremely violent when faced with one and the doctors refusing to put me to sleep I am faced with an uncertain future. My health the last year or so has been deteriorating and I am forced to realize I may not be around as long as I'd hoped.

My bills, living expenses and medical expenses have made my life even harder to live and the fact that sales of my books dropped over 50% the last year are not helping either. I have been looking for part time work or even more publishing/acting work but not much has popped up the last six months so, I decided to start a patreon or have people donate directly to me via paypal to get some classic comics started up again. I've only had a few donations thus far... I will probably close up the Patreon and start again with it if anyone can help me with that or getting my books onto more sites to sell digitally.

So, what does all this mean for Changes? I have been trying to keep up with updates atleast 3-4 times a week but it's hard with my body rejecting me being able to do much more then sleep a lot... I usually wake up around noon or one o'clock in the afternoon and TRY my damndest to get atleast a page or two drawn. sometimes I do..usually I can't... So, as much as it pains me.. this current storyline will be the last put online. I will finish it and post it up for all to see but, the final two storylines will be in book format only as i'm not sure when or if they'll ever be finished. As many know I do have the final page of Changes plotted out it's just what leads up to it that is yet to be done. Some of you may ask why don't I hand over the art duties to someone else ? well, if I could afford to I would... I have said Many times that if I were to die or if something were to happen to me i'd like  lorddragonmaster ,  rabidelf or  rocketdave to draw the final page even if there was no lead up to it these are people I love and respect and trust with giving my series its send off.

I am not trying to bum you all out. I am just giving you the reality of the situation. Life is never easy and it's not supposed to be. We need to be strong for ourselves and those we love. I'll continue doing what I do no matter what even if it's once a week or once a month. Changes is my baby and i'll do my best to see it to its conclusion as bittersweet as it may be.

I thank everyone for their support over the years and hope I can continue to bring you more fun in the future. Changes or otherwise.

hi everyone,

I just got a new computer and will "hopefully" be back to work on Changes and other titles soon but, as my copy of photoshop did not load onto the new system I had to find a replacement. I found Manga Studio 4 EX which many told me was a great alternative to photoshop but, so far I can't get anything to work for me in it even with the help of tutorials so, if you guys can help me with these questions it would be appreciated.

1. after scanning an image in , I cannot seem to pick an area with the magic wand it simply picks the entire image rather then the spot I need to fill with tones/colors. is there a specific way to scan images so that adding tones/colors is doable in one layer? I always do my tones, shading and color in one layer and lettering in the next.

2. I hate, hate, HATE!! the fact that you cannot save files in a jpeg or other format is there a way around this?

3. when experimenting with my bamboo tablet on word balloons I couldn't seem to draw tails on them. I know there is a tail option but it's rather finicky and doesn't seem to work very well but, maybe it's me...

4. is there anyway to turn the interface a bit more like photoshop? i've also been recommended to gimp but it doesn't have a scan option or tones that i can find so, any help with that would be great too....

I do apologize for the delay in getting new pages too you but, i'm a slow learner and new things tend to take me a while to learn so, if you can help please let me know.

hope you're enjoying Ninja High School: Ninjas & Aliens. It's about the only new material you'll be seeing for quite a while. I have not been able to raise enough funds to get a new computer as of yet so I can get back to work on Changes and new books. I'm still drawing new pages and have 10 ready to go when i'm able to bring them to you but, for the time being there will be no updates. Sadly, bills have become huge ($600+ this month alone) and sales have been terrible not only online via the store but also at conventions. I am hoping, to be able to sell off enough to raise the funds I need by December but, at this point it's looking unlikely. The best way you can help me (if you want to) is to spread the word about my online store, the comics, my Patreon or donating via my paypal. I will be giving back to everyone that does donate in the form of books,digital files, drawings, etc.

I only make about $1000-$1200 a month.. and it all currently goes to rent, bills and food (and an occasional fun thing) and sadly, a new computer, even a desktop at $300-$500 is just not doable at this time unless I can raise the funds. I have started a patreon campaign to help me raise funds to bring you more awesome stuff both comic wise and video wise and help me get a new computer. I'm not usually one to ask for help but, the last few months have been terrible for me financially and I have little choice but to ask for the financial help but, I never would ask for help and not offer something in return. This past weekend was one of the worst i've ever had sales wise at Anime North. We had a good location and good traffic but, apparently not the right "Product" it seems people are more interested in fan art of Characters they love now, don't get me wrong i'm not attacking the artists behind the fan art they are all talented people and deserving of success...but... when you sell fan art of characters you don't own and nothing original of your own creation I don't want anything to do with you. I'm quite sick and tired of people making money off creations they don't own, doing a commission for an individual is fine but, then selling prints, stickers etc of characters you have no rights to is just incredibly stupid. The day is coming when companies WILL crack down on fan art and conventions that allow it and I don't blame them. As many know I work on licensed titles, I PAY to use those characters and titles. When you do fan art of say, Kill La Kill and sell it as a poster do the creative team get a piece of that? no. they don't. You're taking money out of peoples pockets that should rightly, be going to them. Perhaps one day companies can work out a "fan-art fee" so that for every poster or product the artist sells they get 10 cents, etc but, that won't be anytime soon. the problem is now and it is an epidemic that must be stopped. I implore those that only sell fan art to attempt something new, yes, it may be unsuccessful but, it will be yours and yours alone and you can take pride in that instead of stealing others IP's for your own use and illegal profit. yes, ILLEGAL. Every penny you make from selling fan art is stolen revenue from the creators and yes, some creators and companies are a-okay with fan art being created but, most would rather you buy the official product or have the artists pay a licensing fee. Once again, I do not want to dissuade artists from doing what they love I just want to educate some that may not think they are doing something wrong. I have no problems with Fan art being posted on DA, etc but, once it starts getting sold that's where my problem comes from. Perhaps, if you're selling fan art why not donate some of your sales to a worthy charity like sick kids or the AIDS Society.

there is a fine line between art and theft , and many are skimming that line and making a tidy profit as well. The artists are not the only ones to blame, so are the fans that support the thievery whether it be buying fan art, buttons,posters etc or illegally downloading shows and comics/manga online. it's all part of a bigger problem with many today called entitlement. People think they can do whatever they want and they don't care what happens regardless they don't think of the hows and whys involved with it all they just want it "now"

I may not make a lot doing what I do but i'm so very proud that it is mine and mine alone. It's time to be proud of yourselves fellow artists and do something new instead of sticking it to the "man" and selling fan art of characters you have no rights to.

and yes, feel free to attack me but, make sure your side of the argument is a valid one. "Fuck you, I do what I want" is Not valid.

This week will mark the 600th story page of Changes (yes, there's a LOT more bonus /short wise) and August this year marks the eighth anniversary of the series beginning. I don't really have anything planned for then other than releasing Changes: Remastered in FULL COLOR in a comic book format but, there's no real anniversary plans at the moment to mark the eighth anniversary. If you have a suggestion though, let me know.

So, what is ahead for the family that "bonds" in more ways than one?

well, we are coming to the end of the road sadly...there are only two major story lines left until the end of the series and no, it won't be anytime soon but, i'm telling you now either way. These stories will test the family like never before when they lose and must fight to get back the one they love the most and many of you can guess what that means as it has been hinted at in the story already ( and no, Snakes girls will NOT be returning)... and then, we'll zip ahead a few years and see what happens in everyone's lives before the series ends in 2/3 years.

I hope you've enjoyed the ride so far, please don't hesitate to comment on the pages... I know you're reading them but, i'd love some feedback...

I want to start dating again but, I feel i'm so out of touch with the world as it's been 10 years since i've last dated. And my being bi-sexual and transgender doesn't tend to help either... (these c-cups are hard to hide) Nor does the fact I make so little doing what I do... I enjoy getting out to munches,events, conventions and such when I can afford to and meeting like minded people but, I feel as I said, out of touch with how the world works at times. I've been alone a long time but am just not sure where to start when it comes to dating again...

This week on Web Comic Wednesday we’re taking a look at an adults only book, so please, only 18 years old or older readers in this topic. As you know, Top Web Comics does feature a variety of comics rated from anyone to adults only. Changes deals mainly with a transgender character and the emotional turmoil they endure. It’s written and drawn by Jim Felker, a dedicated web comic artist who has been telling dramatic stories for many years.

I met Jim many years ago at a comic book store. He’d recently begun selling copies of his collected Forbidden Love comic in the store and I’d picked up a copy earlier. From that, I enjoyed Jim’s writing. Since then we’ve been good friends and he’s been busy with Changes for a long time now. I’ve never read the comic myself, but thankfully Jim had some time for an interview.

Les: Hi Jim! I’ve known you for quite a few years and in the past your comics have been quite dramatic and full of serious issues. Changes is your latest production that you’ve been at for quite some time. Can you give us a brief overview of the basic plot?

Jim: Well, Changes isn’t exactly “new” nor my latest creation, it is my most popular (not counting Steampunk Palin) It’s been running for 8+ years now. And as with any story characters have changed as the story has gone on. That’s what it’s all about. Changes. It started as the tale of a man, a submissive man, becoming a woman in the world of BDSM and how she found her way and met the ones she’d come to love and call “family” even though she had no real past or family of her/his own after being used and abused by someone he thought he could trust and being saved by the one that changed everything for him.

After his transition into a woman the story was supposed to end but, fan outcry made me continue the series following how the couple raised their son and how their “family” new and old changed around them.

Almost 8+ years and nearly 600 pages later i’m still telling their stories. Both light hearted and dark.

You can’t have the good without the bad as the old saying goes…

Les: Obviously this sounds like a dramatic story with some very serious topics to be dealing with. I know from your past works such as Forbidden Love, the love story between an anthro cat and dog, you do take subjects to heart. What more can you tell us about the main star of Changes? What is their name?

Jim: Technically, as the series has gone on there is no “main star” character but, the one that started it all and was the major focal point was Jamie/Sarah. We follow his emotional and sometimes heartbreaking battle to find his true self. He starts out quite timid but, overtime breaks out of his shell as his transition progresses and he becomes Sarah through the story and he’s re-united with his family and creates one of his own with the woman, the Mistress he/She loves. Transitioning is never easy, along the way she has emotional overloads and doubts but, must face them. Now, years later Sarah is a very proud character. Proud of her son, proud of who and what she is and proud to be in the family she helped to create.

Les: I’m aware that you also have also created More Changes. Is this the continuation into Jamie/Sarah’s family and such you mentioned earlier, or a new storyline? Also, where would you recommend readers start with your series? I’m aware that you’re on deviantART. Do you have the comic shared elsewhere as well?

Jim: “More” Changes is a direct continuation taking place a few years after the ending of Changes. I’ve also recently started Changes Remastered which is a full color prequel / happening concurrent story to Changes of how Jamie & Jessica came together but also focuses more on the transition aspect than the original comic. Les: Excellent. Thanks for that Jim. So what has been your favorite part of creating Changes? Did you expect such a fan following when you began?

Jim: The best part? The fan response. I’ve gained a dedicated following over the years and love hearing from them. I always enjoy a nice comment heck, even criticisms are welcomed whether it be about the story line maybe getting too dark or about my art. I’ll never say I’m a great artist or anything. I just happen to love doing it and I learn along the way. But, then, there are those that message me and tell me how much the comic has helped them in a personal way and I am always humbled by that. To know, that out there, somewhere you’ve helped another human being solve an issue they may not have had the courage to do so on their own is always something that makes my heart soar. Anytime I get a message like that I do what I can to help though, sadly there are those times as well that I can’t and it saddens me greatly. I hope that when people read the series they connect with the strong characters and grow alongside them just as I do. There’s nothing one can’t accomplish if you’re willing to fight for it. I’m just glad i’m able to connect with such a diverse fan base.

Les: It definitely does make a difference that you have been able to create something you enjoy, as well as helping and inspiring people in the real world. That’s beautiful Jim. I’m glad to see you’ve been able to make the world of Changes such a big place. Your dedication as a web comic artist is as commendable as your cause. Lastly, do you have any advice you’d give to other web comic artists out there? How do you stay inspired? Did it help to find a topic that had such a serious tone to it, or is it something else that keeps you on your schedule?

Jim: The best advice I can give is this. don’t do it for the money. Do it for doing it. Do it for loving what you do and seeing what others love about it. Let it grow from there. Never let it be about lining your pockets. Let it be about what you love doing.

How I generally stay inspired is listening to music be it Weird Al, Gorillaz, and especially, Pink Floyd / David Gilmour… The stories each song tells always makes me feel an urge to create. Some are dark, some tragic, some inspiring but, all music has it if you just listen.

As for what keeps me on schedule, I have a schedule now? oh, right! I do! just hook the tea to my veins!

Les: Very good advice Jim. I agree there too. Hehe, oh very much so about the tea. I know you’re quite fond of that when working.

Jim: The story of Changes is close to my heart as the main Character is really just a version of myself , something I look forward to one day being but, cannot for now due to varying reasons. the story is something that before I started posting it had never seen done before. a true to life depiction of someone trying to transition in a BDSM lifestyle setting

Les: It’s always good to write straight from the heart, and I appreciate you sharing that with us Jim. I do wish you all the best as well in your life, and with your comic.

As many of you know i've been working with Ben Dunn for many years now on many collections and various comics as a writer/co-creator well, now we need your help! As Changes celebrates eight years online a few folks have been asking me to re-do the original Changes and as much as i'd LOVE to redraw and redo everyhing it's just not possible but, what is possible is a remastering of the original pages with re-lettering, toning and yeah, color.. but, that's not all... there is something I didn't focus on a whole lot in the series and that was Jamie/Sarah's transformation...it kinda just happened...and yeah, there was drama but, I didn't really focus on it too much till near the end of the origianl series so, what i'd like to do is add new pages between the original story focusing more on Hir transition and what happens to someone in that position. But, here's the biggie... would YOU want to see it? or, should it be a seperate story and the original Changes be left the way it is?
