haircut
General | Posted 17 years agoI needed a hair cut so bad that tonight... I cut it myself. Well, I actually let my wife cut it and we used the hair clippers. I used to shave my head when I was in high school, not my whole head mind you though. Just the sides, I had long hair up on top and pulled it back in to a pony tail. I was a bad ass... or at least... thought I was.
So yeah... haircut. It was getting to the point where I would wear my toque all the time because my hair was so bad. But now that it's been clipped I can start gelling up my fohawk again. ^_^ I guess I still think I'm a bad ass.
Have you ever given your self a hair cut?

Keep'n it simple
General | Posted 17 years agoIn today's games of epic stories, hyper real environments and over the top gameplay, it's nice to see something simple come a long.
Bit.Trip Beat (a Wii Ware title) is just that. It's a simple rhythm game done in a big pixel style that takes us back to the Atari days. I see games like this as a reminder that what these are... what we're playing is supposed to be games. I feel that most titles released are more "interactive story experiences" rather then an actual "game" but that's just me. That's not to say that I don't like what is released now but I like my simple concepts too... and I think I like this. I can't help be feel interested in it. Maybe I'll pick it up on Monday.

General | Posted 17 years agoDo you think you could do a post a day for one year? What sort of things would you fill the year with?
the end - post 366
General | Posted 17 years ago366 posts. One more for the last years leap year. I did it. I made a post every single day (every day that I could anyway).
I honestly wasn't sure I'd be able to do it. I figured I'd fizzle out at some point because, honestly... sometimes it's hard to fill a post when you can't think of anything to talk about. So many evenings I'd surf for hours looking for something interesting in the realm of video games and/or naughtiness if nothing exciting happened to me that day. But I pushed on. I usually filled the gap with question posts like "What did you have for dinner" and in all honesty... those where some of my favorite posts. I loved reading the comments ^_^ It really brought me in to a little bit or your life as I brought you in to mine. I think now at the end of this you all out there should know more about me then you'd probably like to. Maybe even more then most other artists.
So what am I going to do now? Well, I want to have a contest/scavenger hunt with all my posts and have the prize be a commission. Probably ten questions and people will have to hunt thought all 366 posts to find the answers. I also want to update my blog and have it so I can have threaded replies to posts. I would love to get more traffic at my site too. I really love Danny Choo and what he's done to get high traffic and create a community at his site, but I doubt I'll ever get that popular. Plus he does it for a living. I'm also plugging away at commissions. I haven't dropped them... keep watching your email and I'll let you know when I'm on yours.
But I guess the question is... will I continue to make posts? Probably. Before this I hardly ever made a post about anything. Now I'm not afraid to get on and say what ever. It might not be everyday, but want to keep it often. It's fun and I like reading what people say in return.
And so with that... I say good night to you people.
Until next post.

Retro Game Challenge - post 365
General | Posted 17 years agoSo I'm tying out this new game called Retro Game Challenge for DS. It's based off a show in Japan called Game Center CX. I posted about it a while back but here's a quick refresh. It's a "reality show" where you watch a guy play video games. Old video games. Like... NES games. He's never played them before and it's fun to watch him as he experiences them.
Anyway, this game is basically a bunch game challenges but the games are done up all old NES style. There are some top down shooters, a racer, a platformer and an old school RPG. On top of that the story that happens between the challenges ia set during 1980's and feature two kids (one being the host of the show as a kid) as they wait to play the latest releases. You even get to thumb though game magazines and get tips and cheats for the games you play during the challenges. It's all kinds of awesome and really brings back the feeling of waiting to play NES games from back in the day. I must have had the biggest smile on my face as I played the games. ^_^
Now the challenges are pretty easy I must say (that or I'm just super awesome) and the games aren't licensed titles. They've been totally made up for the game but in all honesty, I didn't care. I was nice to play some new kinds of NES games in these high poly, normal map days we live in.
So yeah... Retro Game Challenge DS totally makes me smile. I hope they bring out the sequel here. ^_^

who's watching me - post 364
General | Posted 17 years agoYou know... sometimes I wonder just who you people are. Oh, I know that you are all unique individuals and all that... I mean... is there anyone of popular status out there looking at my art? Maybe Mr. Joshua_Jackson from Fringe likes to take a gander at my work. Maybe Robin Williams or Dexter Holland from The Offspring. Who knows! I'm pretty sure that none of these people would come out and admit who they are and that they like what I draw, but it's fun to think that these people are out there... maybe looking at my latest piece.
and maybe leaving a comment ^_^

poop - post 363
General | Posted 17 years agoToday I finally got an opportunity to clean my backyard of all the dog poop from over the winter. I'd have to say this is the only part about winter I hate. Every year I tell myself "Self, I'm going to go and be very diligent about picking up after my dog this winter". For the 4th winter in a row now, I've let myself down. My wife also has failed but then she has to watch the kids and can't be running out side every time the dog needs to crap. Plus when it snows, you can just say "good bye" to what ever is out there because you'll never find it.
It sucks and what's worse is that I feel super bad because the kids can't go out and play in a poop filled yard. We usually take them to a park or a hill or something, which is where they usually want to go anyway even when the back yard is clean. o_O
Anyway, I'm glad I got it done this morning because it started to rain by about lunch time. And if it sucks picking up a whole yard of dog poop, then is super sucks picking up wet soggy poop.
Yeah... what a crappy day. Ba-dum tss!

12 hour boner - post 362
General | Posted 17 years agoLet's set this up. You (the guy) have a bet with two lady friends who think you can't pleasure them for a whole 12 hours. How much is the bet? Oh... let's say around $4000 bucks. Do you take the bet? Do you think your man enough to keep things going for half a day? Well, one man in Russia did and he made such a bet. Mr. Sergei Tuganov, 28 and a mechanic by trade, thought he'd help his odds though by ingesting a whole bottle of Viagra!
So did he win? Well, he did complete the challenge, but then dropped dead of a heart attack minutes after. So... is that a win? What do you think? One also wonders how much lube they would have have to have used. I mean, the human body can only manufacture so much natural lubricant. I think I would have used toys instead of drugs while my own body rests up.
What isn't mentioned is if the two ladies in question where actually satisfied during the whole 12 hour sexcapade. ^_^

General | Posted 17 years agoSo... is your computer chair made in China? If so you could be sitting on a bomb. Think I'm joking? Well tell that to the 14 year old Chinese boy that had the gas cylinder at the base of his chair (the one that help to raise or lower the chair) explode. Oh wait... you can't because he's dead. Yup, the explosion from his chair sent metal shrapnel in to his rectum and, unfortunately, he bled to death.
How horrific is this story? I can't imagine having this happen to myself let alone come home and find my child a victim of such a freak accident. But let's stand back for a moment. Could this really happen? Is this just an internet "story" making the rounds? In the pictures after the above link I don't see any blood on the seat and if I follow the source links I just keep being taken to blog to blog and news post to news post with the same pictures every time. It's a scary story for sure, but is it true? After thinking about it for some time I can't come to a conclusion if it is or not. What do you think?
If it is true, my heart goes out to the family. If not... then you've fooled me again internets.
This sounds like a job for the Mythbusters!

it's not my birthday - post 359
General | Posted 17 years agoIt's my son's birthday and today he turned 2. Yay! He's so much fun and happy and he just makes me smile to be around... now if he could only sleep though the night. ^_^
So what did we do today? We went to McDonald's for treat lunch. We don't go often so the kids liked it. They had a Happy Meals (with apples) and then played them self stupid in the play area. Then we all came home and I had a nap with my son since I was crazy, fall on my ass tired after staying up late painting his painting. And what was the result? He didn't seem too interested in it really, but that's okay. He's 2 so his priorities are a little different then mine. It'll be a nice keep sake when he's older.
So over all... it was a pretty good day.

Quake - post 357
General | Posted 17 years agoDo/did you play Quake? I used to. It was my first PC FPS experience. A friend at work bought Quake Arena when it came out and we would all play at work. It was a lot of fun, even though I wasn't that great at it. Well, years down the road I discover that Id has released Quake Live. It's basically Quake III/Arena being played online, in a browser. When I heard about it I was actually excited and rushed over to the site and signed up. Soon I was playing the game and remembering all the fun I used to have. It was great and I'll totally be on from time to time playing. I'll have to play at work though (at lunch) since my home PC isn't 3D game ready. I really should get a 3D card some time. I wonder if my laptop will run it...
I go by Mr. Hondo when I'm online so if you see me feel free to say hi and what not. Maybe we'll "frag" some "noobs" as the kids say. ^_^

sleepy - post 356
General | Posted 17 years agoI have two kids that don't sleep the best... especially the youngest. He wakes up at around 11 pm each night. Every night. I couldn't tell you the last time I slept though the whole night with no interruptions. It been at least 2 years... probably more. On top of that, I'm staying up late to get my son painting done so I'm crazy tiered during the day. I couldn't tell you what I had for supper the night before on most days.
Which got me thinking... I think I've only stayed up all night about 2 or 3 times in my whole life. They where during high school and I was playing games. I never once stayed up all night during college, but most of my fellow students did. One girl stayed up for 3 days straight trying to get work done. She was a zombie on the third day and didn't make much sense when she talked.
What's the most you've ever gone with out sleep?

knowledge is power - post 355
General | Posted 17 years agoToday I learned what a "fluffer" is thanks to someone commenting that a fluffernutter sounds like something from 70's porn.
So what is a fluffer? A fluffer is someone on the set of a porn and will help to keep the male actors aroused just before scenes that require erections. They're not used much anymore thanks to boner pills and everything being shot digitally. They also helped with the clean up of the actors between takes so they wouldn't have to move from their positions.
A fluffer is also the name given to someone that prepares a house for sale, a figure skating team that isn't preforming in a major part of the programme, a staff officer that won't let an issue go or someone that constantly exaggerates event in their life to make them sound more exciting.
All those are great but not nearly as awesome as the first definition I learned about.
So other then what you just read... what did you learn today that you didn't know before.

sketchbook - post 353
General | Posted 17 years agoHere's an interesting fact. I don't use a sketchbook. Oh I have them, but I don't draw in them. For some reason I just can't bring myself to draw in an actual sketchbook. I feel pressure to draw awesome doodles and such in them. Why? I guess because most people love to see sketchbooks, or they catch you drawing in yours, and so they want to see what you have in them, and for what ever reason I feel like a tard if I have bad art in them. I know, I know... that's what they're for. But you know what's even stranger? I draw in my notebook all the time. The one I take to meetings. It has my game design notes and is all lined paper but I love to draw in them.
Strange eh?
Oh, I did make it through one sketch book, and I do think it's full of great sketches. Now that I think of it. It has the Ubisoft logo on each page (I got it when I used to work in the Ubi building in Montreal). Maybe I just can't draw on a page unless it has something on it already like a logo or lines. Hmmm...
Do you have a sketchbook and do you use it often?

homemade - post 350
General | Posted 17 years agoToday at my house it was baking day. I made a maple, cinnamon, raisin bread. My wife made a pumpkin loaf and some peanut butter and chocolate treats made with what ever cereal was left in our cupboard. Then for supper we had a homemade beef stir fry that was just awesome! Oh, and for lunch we had leftover spaghetti with, of course, a homemade sauce.
In my opinion, you just can't beat homemade anything. Sure, if it comes out of a box it's fast and easy, but the flavors and the pride that you get when you've hand crafted your meal just can't compare. I'm not nearly as talented as my wife is on this topic, but I do find myself flipping though recipe magazines looking for things to make. It makes me warm a fuzzy just thinking about it. ^_^
On a side note in regards to yesterday. Never do a home project with a spouse... I'll leave it at that.

I have lots that top the list. Banana cream pie, my wife's apple crisp, vanilla ice cream with pineapple chunks on top. But I don't think any can top a nice big slice of cherry pie with a dollop of whip cream on it. Oh man! It's the food of the gods I tell ya... the food of the gods.

computer fun - post 347
General | Posted 17 years agoI'm sitting here on my floor trying to wipe my brother in laws computer. Why? Because he needs to give it to his in laws and it needs to be free of all the crap on it currently. It amazing how much we can accumulate on our PC's. I'll admit, I don't clean ours up or do regular backups. I really should, its going to bite me in the as one day.
So yeah, here I sit as their old computer downloads 21 windows updates before it shuts down. I need it shut down so I can place one of my DVD drive bays in it so I can put in the factory CD (we just found out their CD drive is done and busted). Good times... I totally forgot how much fun it is doing this sort of stuff.
Ugh...
Do you do regular backups of your PC?

dance the night away - post 346
General | Posted 17 years agoTonight I went with my wife to see a So You Think You Can Dance Canada on tour show. Our seats weren't the best they weren't the worst ether. My wife bought them a few days before the actually went on sale thanks to a promotion code and these where the best she could get. Makes you wonder how to get the better ones. Anyway, it was a great show and the dancers where fantastic. It was nice to see a show like this. My wife and I don't get many chances to go do things like this so I'm very glad we went.
I can tell I'm getting old though. A lot of the time I thought "geez... this music is way too loud. They should turn it down." Not that I've been a fan of loud music to begin with. ^_^
So yeah, great show, it was lots of fun. I do believe next year we'll go again. I think my wife want to see an actual live taping of the show though. I'll have to see what I can do about that one.
Oh, I should also mention that a lot of the lady dance costumes where uber cute and sexy, which just added to the top notch dancing. ^_^
So what was the last live show you saw? Concert? Play? That bum on down the street drop his pants for change?

late - post 345
General | Posted 17 years agoI'll admit, I'm bad with time. I'm usually late to get where I'm going. I never mean to be late, it just always seems to happen. For some reason I just think I can doing things faster then time will allow. My daughter is the same way and my wife gives us both heck for it ^_^ Actually, my whole Mom's side of the family is late constantly. We say it's "Mohawk time" but in reality, it doesn't matter what we call it, it's just plain rude and a habit I'm constantly trying to break.
Are you someone that is able to arrive on time for events and meetings? Maybe you're super awesome and can get to places early. Or are you like me and constantly keep people waiting until you decide to make you appearance.
