"A show for the lizard in all of us"
Posted 2 years agoSaw Lizard Boy Friday, an off-Broadway musical about a young man who's exactly that. I
posted my review under my "Miscweant" handle on dailykos.com, my favorite lefty news site;

An excellent, wonderful show, a lot in there for a furry to appreciate; here's the musical's own website: www.lizardmusical.com

My Anthrocon "Furry Nation" panel scheduled for Sunday
Posted 8 years agoSunday, 1030 am to be exact, in the convention center lecture room 407. Hope you can be there!
A shot in the dark...
Posted 8 years agoI'm trying to locate a fur named "Chaston" who came to my "Born this Way?" panel at furpocalypse last year. So far, no luck. If anybody knows this fellow (or if you're reading this yourself) can you put him in touch with me? Thanx much!

Heading to Furpocalypse!
Posted 11 years agoBeing picked up by speet speet in his TARDISmobile tomorrow morning. (When I travel with him, I'm the "companion.") If you're there, hope you catch my "Not just for furs" and "I'm not the only one!" sessions
Not on after all
Posted 11 years agoLet's hear it for Anthrocon organization...
The Anthrocon programming guy who told me he'd managed to squeeze my session on mainstream anthropomorphism onto the con's schedule said that even though it wasn't on the printed schedule (which makes sense, that thing's printed up way in advance of the con) said it would be on the online schedule - which it wasn't. When the time (5:30)and day (Saturday) rolled around, the ferret photoshoot session originally scheduled in the room was taking place.
It wouldn't have bothered me half as much if I hadn't spent the two days between my return from a west coast trip and my departure for Pittsburgh throwing my presentation together as quickly as I could when I had other pressing stuff I coulda taken care of. Oh, well, at least I have a basic presentation I can improve upon and present at the next Anthrocon or whatever furcon I show up at next.

My Anthrocon session on non-furry anthropomorphism is on
Posted 11 years agoGreetings from the City of Angels, where I'm hobnobbing with local furs & learning scads about our fandom's founding and its earliest days, destined for Furry Nation, the book I'm writing about the birth & growth of furry fandom - and how anthropomorphism is becoming more popular outside the fandom too.
I had a major shock when I saw my proposed session - "Anthropomorphism: Not Just for Furs Anymore" - that I'd been told the con was very interested in scheduling - wasn't on the schedule posted to Anthrocon's website. However I received an Email a few hours ago telling me they found a slot to squeeze my session in - Saturday, July 5th, in room DLCC 317 from 5 to 6pm at the convention center.
I'm going to cover all sorts of mainstream, anthro-themed art and entertainment that I've been keeping track of for years now for the book; time permitting (I get back home 3 days before I leave for Pittsburgh) I hope to have plenty of pix and some video to show folks; hope you can make it.

Roger Moore admits the truth
Posted 11 years agoMy new quotation, below
Posted 12 years agoI just finished reading an astonishing book, The Woman and the Ape, by Danish author Peter Hoeg. (There should be a diagonal line thru the 'o' in Hoeg, but I don't think I can do that here.) It's the story of a rather intelligent ape who's captured but escapes, runs off with the zoo director's wife, and then...
That's where the quote comes from. I had to truncate it somewhat to fit within the number of characters available for a quote; here's the full version:
“...there is only one thing I would ask you to remember. And that is how hard it is to tell, in each one of us, where the part that you call human ends and the part you call animal begins.”
You really should read this book.

The Incredible Hare's first Kickstarter campaign - RIP
Posted 12 years agoWell, it only missed my goal by about.... $5,500.
Still, 40 people pledging isn't too shabby. I'm going to lick my wounds and start planning Harry's comehback - maybe as an Indigogo campaign, or maybe just publishing it directly to amazon myself. (I'm told it's not all that hard to format an eBook and I think I can design a halfway decent cover myself.)
Stay tuned for further developments...

SEVEN DAYS TO DOOMSDAY!!!
Posted 12 years agoAnd still nothing in the way of upward mobility in the Hare's Kickstarter fund, currently frozen at the $1,700 mark.
Just realized I didn't have the link to the Furs-only/AnthroContest portal page in my previous journal, so here it is now - for whatever good it will do:
http://www.ihare.com/portal_page.html
Oh and I've received some very kind compliments on the Hare from several people as of late - thank you all - you have excellent taste!

Only 11 days left until July 20 -with JULY 10 UPDATE
Posted 12 years ago- and The Incredible Hare Kickstarter campaign is doing... rather poorly.
To be specific, as of this (July 9th) morning it's only up to $1,273 out of its $7,500 goal. [JULY 10 UPDATE: Up to $1,533 - a good one-day's increase, but there's still $6,000 to go with only 10 days left until July 20.]
Hopefully it will pick up steam now that Anthrocon is over; every convention bag handed to attendees included the postcard for the Hare's furs-only 'AnthroContest' (just posted over there to the left). Perhaps a few furs will read it and maybe even enter the contest when they get home.
Can anyone tell me if they've seen the banner ads that should be running for the campaign? I'm supposed to have seven different banners running concurrently, but I hardly ever see them when I open up FA or go to various pages. I figure with between 9 and 12 thousand furs on FA at any given moment those banners should be seen by a lot of eyeballs, but if they almost never turn up...

Oh dear! (A most important link just repaired...)
Posted 12 years agoLast night I did something I should've done when I set up the the link from the "furs-only" portal page to The Incredible Hare's Kickstarter page; actually TEST to make sure the link was working! Turned out the damn thing was non-functioning I cringe to think of the hundreds of eager-to-contribute furs clicked on that dead button and gave up when nothing happened. COME BACK PEOPLE, PLEASE! I promise the link's all fixed & you'll be able to pledge your $$$ like that [finger snap]!
The Incredible Hare Kickstarter UPDATE
Posted 12 years agoTen days in (out of 30) and so far only $1,200 raised - only 15% towards my goal (gulp!) All of Part One of The Incredible Hare ("A Hare is Born") has been up on www.ihare.com for a while, but I just added the first two chapters of Part Two ("His Fame Multiplies") to the site... And don't forget the secret furs-only side door to Harry's Kickstarter page wherein a furs-only surprise awaits:

You can also go directly to Harry's own website - ihare.com - and read the novel's entire first part - "A Hare is Born"

Joe educates the lefties
Posted 12 years agoElsewhere on this page I mention the leftie website www.dailykos.com as along with FA, my favorite place on the internet. So when I came across an item there today titled 'Fursdai Furries,' I naturally thought was referring to us. When I got there however it was the usual assortment of 'cleverly' captioned 'funny' pet pictures, which led me to post the following comment under one of my multitudinous online aliases:

Joe Strike, Brony authority
Posted 12 years agoI've been invited to speak at the upcoming NYC Ponycon:

I'm about halfway down the guest list, halfway between a voice actor and a comics artist. See ya there (assuming of course you're a Brony in the NYC metro area and have a few $$ to buy a membership)

"The Closing of the Year"
Posted 13 years agoIf I cannot bring you comfort
Then at least I bring hope
For nothing is more precious
Than the time we have, and so
We all must learn from small misfortune
Count the blessings that are real
Let the bells ring out for Christmas
At the closing of the year.

God bless us, every one!
