FC, amongst other things
Posted 13 years agoFirst things, first. I'd like to give a shout out to my new followers. Greatly appreciate it. Thank you for the watch.
Also, I've made it back safe from Further Confusion 2013. I've taken quite a great deal of photographs this year. It'll take quite a bit of time to go through and edit them all appropriate before I upload them onto my Picasa account. Here's a link to keep an eye on, for when they finally show up, which I suspect will be before the week is through. https://picasaweb.google.com/116613472687057382918
I won't bore you with the details. I will say this, however. I had an overall great time. I love going to FC, and I should hope to be able to make it back there next year. There was but one thing that makes me hesitant of booking a room again at the San Jose Marriott. Nothing serious, aside from an issue involving pests I'd rather not deal with.
Bugs in the room aside, I had fun. It was sort of a mirror of my first con, FC 2008. It mainly deals with taking tons of photos and starting the con with a stomach virus (FC '08) versus this year taking tons of photos and ending it with stomach problems. If this were to be my last con, I'd say it'd be poetic.
One of the things I liked a lot was finally eating one of the famous Psycho Donuts donuts. The D'OHnut, as it were. I liked it. Also, I wish I'd been able to go to that one vegan cafe on First, just to see what sort of meal I would have enjoyed there.
I tried cotton candy vodka. Two shots later, I might have become drunk enough to have invented a means of time travel without needing to use a nuclear reactor to generate the 1.21 gigawatts of power to travel through time. Unfortunately, due to a little thing called 'drunken recall', I can only remember it if I were to get drunk again. And anybody who knows me can testify that I seldom ever drink. XP Now where did I leave the design schematics for the flux capacitor?
So, yeah. I should hope that, if things go well for me, that I can afford to attend FC 2014. Especially since I want to help Chance the Dragon out with a fursuit Team Fortress 2 thing he's got in mind. That's all, good night.

Rules for staying my FC room
Posted 13 years ago-No alcohol parties. None. I have to work with a bunch of people who drink on the job, and I'll have none of that while at FC. Not your room, not your rules. More specifically, no heavy drinking IN the room.
-Try to keep everything clean and organized. No valuable things out where people visiting the room can steal them. Dirty clothes need to be organized into some sort of dirty clothes container. I want to leave a good impression with the house keeping staff.
-If you're going to bring guests over into the room, I'd like for them to at least be people I know personally, know who has a good reputation in the fandom, who doesn't have a record of creating drama and kleptomania in his wake, or at least me be in the room there, too. Nothing personal, it's just that trust is one of those things that I prefer not to toss around like a towel.
-Check out time is 11 AM Monday. Meaning that everything will need to be packed Sunday evening, and ready to be put in the car Monday no later than 10 AM.
-We leave for FC Wednesday evening. Brown Wolf rides shotgun, Blaze and Sincerey bring up the rear. Since we're driving in a mid-sized sedan, with limited space, so we're going to have to pack as conservatively as possible. This includes Artist Alley supplies, clothes and toiletries, medicine, only the necessary fursuits, and my camera. Nothing more. Food will be acquired along the way.
And nobody better tell me the sheer impossibility of fitting four people and luggage in my car using measurements that in no way truly reflect on how well I may be able to succeed, given the little information I'm dealing with. IE I'm Han Solo, never tell me how impossible things appear to be. I'll only succeed anyways.
Now, if you'll excuse me, good night.

Now, for my journal. I think it's safe to say that the amount of people I'm rooming with has tapered off. Which is pretty great. I get to hang out with a lot of people I haven't seen in a long time, lot of good friends, and go back on up to San Jose.
Which reminds me, I've got about two weeks to get a lot of things ready. Mainly, buying and recharging camera batteries, getting memory cards, cleaning up my fursuits, and timing it so I don't have food in my refrigerator that will be left to spoil. I'm going to be looking into either getting an HD camcorder, or outfitting my current video camera to be able to take video of the whole weekend. Also, I need to polish off this thing I've written in order to have it ready by FC.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got to get back to figuring how to get several fursuits and a car full of people up to FC.

Rain Furrest 2012 Pictures are up
Posted 13 years agoRF 2012 pictures are up. Here's the link - https://picasaweb.google.com/116613.....CNWkjfn8-6zraw. You are free to take and post the ones featuring you. All I ask is just a mention saying who took them. Thanks. :P
Rain Furrest Journal
Posted 13 years agoMust...not...complain...about TSA searching through my dirty underwear. Joke's on them. They broke $20, pre-approved locks just to go searching around my clothes. Apparently, the 4th Amendment is negated when Michael Jordan brand Hanes underwear is involved. :P
But seriously, though. Rain Furrest was pretty good this year. Didn't manage to take as many pictures as I would have like to have taken, but it's still a great year in Rain Furrest. Managed to fit two different fursuits into one Action Packer and a carry on bag. By the way, here's a little bit of advice: If you're uploading pictures of fursuiters, be sure to use the "Fursuit - Tame" category, along with the keywords "Rain", "Furrest", "2012", "RainFurrest", "RainFurrest2012", "RF", "RF2012", etc. Seems insignificant, but it means a lot to the fursuiters who were actually at Rain Furrest this year. Along with any other con they were at.
So now, I've got to make plans for making it to Further Confusion 2013 (Artist Alley), and Rain Furrest 2013 (Fur and Loathing in Seattle: A Savage Journey to the Heart of the Furry Fandom). What's that? I got a Market Place table at FC 2013? Why, yes. I just paid for it and figured I may as well try my hand and selling my particular skill set that I be so passionate about. And no, I don't plan on giving car repair advice. That's an occupation, not an avocation. I won't go into the details of it, but it involves photography. I would say what I'd like to do, but that would involve telling. And what fun is it in ruining the surprise? As far as Rain Furrest goes, I hope to make it again next year. Even better would be to make a road trip of it.
I have FC and RF planned for 2013. No plans on Califur yet. Not until I figure out whether to attend that, or shoot for going to Anthrocon.
That's it for now. I'm off to bed. Pictures to be processed and uploaded later this week.

There's no fate but what you make for yourselves
Posted 13 years agoThree billion human lives ended on August 29, 1997. The survivors of the nuclear fire called the war Judgment Day. They lived only to face a new nightmare, a war against the machines. The computer which controlled the machines, Skynet, sent two terminators back through time. Their mission: to destroy the leader of the human Resistance. John Connor; my son. The first terminator was programmed to strike at me, in the year 1984, before John was born. It failed. The second was sent to strike at John himself, when he was still a child. As before, the Resistance was able to send a lone warrior. A protector for John. It was just a question of which one of them would reach him first.

- Staying at:
The Hilton
- Arrival and Departure?
Arrival: 26th September
Departure: 1st October
- Mode of transportation
Undecided. I'm either flying via Southwest or driving. In which case, this calls for acquiring a really fast car with a manual transmission. Like a 2000 BMW 323i.
- Rooming with:
Unknown. I'm really hoping that, should I go and they go, that I get to room with
SillySerpentine,
BlazeArctic, and
SIncerey
- Who Will I likely see you with?
Unknown.
- Con Plans:
Have fun, taking a butt ton of photographs, and maybe filming a short scene from a much larger movie.
- How can I find you?
Those of you who know me know how to locate me. Otherwise, I'll try to have some sort of distinguishing characteristics, like carrying a big ass camera with a flash and a big old wide angle lens, a photographic badge of my fursuits, and more things to be decided soon.
- Do you do free art?
Probably. I may be up for creating (non)fursuit photographic badges.
- Do you have prints/Cds?
Can't. No room for those.
- Will you be fursuiting? if so: What suit(s)?
Yes. I'll try and see if I can take Brandy Wine up with me.
- Will you be going to parties?
Maybe. Depends on if the parties are worth attending that won't get me into trouble.
- Will you be performing?
Probably. Since I'll be trying to make that short scene whose premiere will be aimed towards the FC 2013 not-Furry-Night-Live event, that'll count.
- Smoke?
Nope. Can't smoke, trying to get back into training.
- Drink?
Water, Mexican Coke, almond milk, and Jones Soda.
- Gender?
Male
- Can I hug you?
In suit? Only if you and your hands are clean.
- Can I talk to you?
Sure. I'm down for that.
- Will you be at any panels?
Probably. Hasn't really stopped me before.
- Can I touch you?
Bad touch! Bad touch!
Just kidding, but seriously, though. Probably. But you still have to respected boundaries and personal space when it's called for.
- Can I buy you drinks?
Maybe. That does include water.
- How old are you?
Old. Hella old.
- Can I snuggle with you?
Only if I grant you permission.
- If you're pissed off, should I approach you?
No, please, don't. If I'm pissed off, I'm usually gonna get loaded for bear. And then nobody's safe.
That in mind, remember that there are certain tells I will exhibit when my anger begins to simmer. Most noticeably, crossing my arms, giving a terrible stare, and clenching my hands. But that's only during more extreme and rare conditions.
- Are you nice?
I hope I am.
-Single or Taken?
Single. Although I am looking to change that.
- Cliquey?
*Tilts head* Arf?
- How tall?
5' 3".
- Can I Take pictures of you?
Only when I'm in suit. Out of suit, I'm more self-conscious about it.
- Will you get anything commissioned?
I'll try.
- How can I get your attention?
Just call me out.
- Can I ask you to dance at the raves?
I'm not really able to dance, so no.

Antheria pictures are finally up
Posted 13 years agoAfter a near nine month delay or so, my pictures from Antheria 2011 are finally up. Won't say why I was holding out for so long, other than maybe I was holding them ransom for a reference sheet. But seeing as how that won't happen, I said, 'Eh, what the hell? I'll just upload them.'
There you go - https://picasaweb.google.com/116613.....8/Antheria2011. And all I ask for is to be given credit for taking them. Nothing more, just a little regard thank you very much.

No Comic Con for me this year.
Posted 13 years agoSo, I missed out on being able to attend Comic Con this year. I've been missing out on it since I've moved here in 2001. But, considering that I've managed to attending other cons marginally related to SDCC, like FC in San Jose (awesome), CF in Irvine (tolerable) and Anime Expo on Sunday (which makes me want to attend the whole weekend even more), I'd say that Comic Con is no real big loss for me. I did, however, manage to stroll around and ghost the outside of the con, and maybe a few of the floors and rooms in the Marriott next door, if that counts for something.
There's always the possibility that I can, if I should choose to, ghost Comic Con next year. Probably volunteer, or, at the most become a dealer and submit that film I've written for competition into the film festival. Just a few minor tweaks, and I can have it shot and start editing it in September. And believe you me, I can get it done with a lot of help from my friends.
So, who's with me?

Anime Expo 2012 and Antheria 2011 Images uploading
Posted 13 years agoOnce again, I found myself attending Anime Expo on a Sunday. Wish I could've attended the whole weekend, just to be able to have a greater opinion about it. Images found here: https://picasaweb.google.com/116613...../AnimeExpo2012
As for Antheria 2011, I've finally gotten around to actually exporting them to Jpeg format. Don't look at me like that, I was too busy working, attending other conventions, and attending classes to get my smog license. I'll be uploading them to my Picasa tonight, link not yet available, but here's the top level link, just in case I forget: https://picasaweb.google.com/116613472687057382918.
So, how's everyone else doing?

Noah Antwiler, aka The Spoony One, has insulted me
Posted 13 years agoThis, over Twitter. Starts off with an innocent tweet that quickly and without provocation led to him hurling such a thing. If it were directed at me, I could handle it. But it quickly got weird. Here is the conversation.
Spoony: https://twitter.com/TheSpoonyOne/st.....29913737129985
Me: https://twitter.com/KrisHolcomb/sta.....30768980881409

In case he decides to delete that tweet in question, I've screen capped it. Do with it what you will. https://picasaweb.google.com/116613.....22073007842850
End of conversation. That's it. No, "Sorry, dude." or "I stand by what I said, bro." Nothing. And the biggest thing that irks me is that he happened to tell me a snide remark at the expense of family. It's one thing I can handle if the comment was intended to be directed at me personally. I'll live. But to come out like that is unacceptable. I don't care if he's having bitch fits right now, it just comes off as rude. I don't know him, I don't make things end up that serious. That's me.
Yes, I know he's having a depression fit right now, but he needs to grow the hell up, and grow a pair, because this is the sort of behavior that will cost him viewers who are more loyal than I. And that's why he got kicked off of Channel Awesome, That Guy With The Glasses. It wasn't creative differences. It was just that he was being a massive douche bag asshole to everyone else on the sight, that they just decided to boot his sorry ass. His absence won't be missed.
I used to watch his site until this very thing. Now, I'll personally will be boycotting his videos. I *could* ask for people to join me on this, but really, it's for everyone to decide what happens next. And I'm only bringing this up because if anything, it serves as a reminder for everyone that no matter who you are, there are certain things that must be respected. This is about a line in the sand, and cross this line you shall not.
Now, to figure out how I'm going to deal with my Spoony problem beyond just the boycott.
...
Aw, screw it, I'm just going to boycott him. His reviews and drama won't be missed. Which, I might add, makes him a very good candidate to be a furry. Endless drama, biting back at people, failure to actually take any sort of personal responsibility and accountability for his own situation, lack of emotional stability, sociopathy to the point of psychosis. This guy is the poster child for the furry fandom. Somebody get that guy a weasel fursuit.

Anthrocon Meme
Posted 13 years agoI'm not going to Anthrocon this year. Meaning, I have no meme to post here. I have no vacation time. No time of any time. Instead, I shall use this weekend to be more productive in my non-furry convention attendance time. Namely, whatever I can pull off on Sunday, since that's my only day off from work.
I would, however, be inclined to ask one favor, of those who are going. I'd ask if anybody can bring me back a T-shirt. Nothing special, really. I can compensate for time, money, and shipping and handling costs. But, seeing as how that might be presuming too much over FA, I might just hold back on that one.
In other news, now that I'm not attending AC, I was thinking of using whatever money I'm saving from that and getting a Nikon D(Whateverly). Simply put, I want to one out and see how well it stacks against what I currently use from an image quality point of view. Now, I am open to suggestions from the Nikon users as to which would be a pretty good setup to invest in, both in the body and in the lenses that work best with it. I'm aiming for the mid- to high-end Nikon bodies, D90 on up.

I Survived Califur VIII, and photo troubleshooting
Posted 13 years agoNow begins the task of processing all my photos and uploading them to my Flickr, Photobucket, and Picasa accounts. This may take a while, since I may or may not have encountered a SNAFU when importing a batch of images into my computer. Incidentally, I'm not above advice on how best to recover lost images as a result of technical difficulties, since this is pretty much a first for me.
I'll make my Califur report as succinct as possible. It wasn't the greatest con I've attended, since that opinion is still a split between Further Confusion 2008 and Rain Furrest 2010. It's also not the worst. Instead, it's one of those cons that I wouldn't mind ghosting just to hang out with friends and suit up, amongst things. And really, there's not much else for me to do at Califur except for being with friends and maybe just getting art done at the Artists' Alley.
Which reminds me, I need to start scanning all my artwork and uploading them.
Complete image uploads soon, FA image uploads soon, and probable attendance of the PS this weekend. Also, in hindsight, I probably should have had business cards printed up that I could use to promote my own fursuit-related photography. And not just at-con photography, either. Something for after cons, or maybe getting actual fursuit badges done. I'm just throwing that out there. If anybody wants fursuit/non-fursuit photos done in my style, just hit me up. I'm always available (at least in the general CA/AZ/Las Vegas region) and very affordable. *End of shameless plug*

I was going to post a journal about the way my job works
Posted 13 years agoBut then I asked myself, 'Would what I have to say make any sense? And more importantly, would anybody care?' I mean, when you get down to it, what I have to say might seem useful. But I've have such bad luck in trying to explain things to people that really, it's not worth having normal conversations. So, instead, I will instead be open to a Q&A session regarding my work. My job working as a licensed smog technician.
It's either that, or pull a Professor Farnsworth, boldly exclaiming that I simply 'don't want to live on this planet anymore.'
So, let the questions flow.

Because all the cool kids are doing it: Califur Meme
Posted 13 years agoWhere are you staying?
The con hotel, the Irvine Mariott.
What day are you getting there?
Hopefully, I'll be checking in Friday. May or may not be there the entire weekend, but I'll try to make it after work, whenever that may be.
Who will you be with?
Whoever I can find.
Rooming with?
Brown_Wolf
Who will you hang out with during the convention?
Someone. Anyone. Everyone.
Are there any panels you might be attending?
Hopefully, fursuit performance, fursuit construction, and, if they have it, a photography and the furry fandom panel.
Are you attending any stage or public performances?
Was looking forward to FNL, but not sure if it'll happen this year or not. May or may not attend the Cabaret. If I don't, I'll just sell off my ticket beforehand.
Will you be suiting?
*M. Bison voice* Of course! I will be suiting up as Brandy this year. Maybe a few others, too. And maybe a secret suit, if it gets finished in time.
Do you do free art?
If, by art, you mean photography, why certainly.
Do you do trades?
Maybe. If I decide to, I can do fursuit (or non-fursuit) photo badges in exchange for art, or not-art even.
Do you do badges?
Like I said, I might be able to do photo-based badges, depending on if I can set up an efficient system regarding off-camera flash in the room I'm staying in. Since I can't draw too well, photo badges will have to do.
Do you do commissions?
Like, drawn commissions? No, I don't
What is your gender?
Male. Always have been, always will be. Unless, of course, magic is involved. Or, by some alien technology, we have the means to biologically alter people's gender back and forth.
How tall are you?
5'3" or so.
Can I talk to you?
Sure. I'm open for conversation.
Can I touch you?
Do I know you? How would you define 'touch'? And, most importantly, can I touch you right back in the same manner you are trying to touch me?
How can I find you?
I won't be all that hard to find, especially if you know what I look like.
Can I visit your room?
Unless I happen to get Room 366, or I personally invite you, then no, you can't visit. Sorry, I gotta be fair with everyone. Especially the people who are rooming with me.
Can I buy you drinks?
I'm open to water, almond milk, Pepsi Throwback, and Mexican Coca Cola only.
Can I give you stuff?
If it's good stuff, I'm down with it.
Can I hug or snuggle with you?
Hugs and snuggles by invite only.
Are you nice?
You'd have to ask my friends and enemies on that one.
How long are you going?
Hopefully, the whole weekend.
Do you have an artist table?
Dealer's den - no. Artist Alley - no or maybe. Depends on whether or not it's feasible to set up a table dealing exclusively in photography.
Will you have art in the Art Show? General or Adult sections?
No. Not enough free time to set up something like that.
If I see you, how should I get your attention?
Say something like, 'Hey.', 'Hello', 'Hey, you', or 'Sup, homeboy?'
Where will you be most of the time during the day/s?
Walking around the con space.
What/where will you be eating?
Around the hotel. Not sure yet, but it could be something like rice, In-N-Out, something vegetarian, etc.
Can I come with you for food/fun/etc?
Food - no. Fun - what sort of fun? Etc - We shall have to see.
Can I look in your sketchbook?
Sure.
Can I draw in your sketchbook?
Probably.
Can I take your picture?
In suit, yes. Out of suit, no. I'm fugly, and will break the camera. Or not. :P
What's your goal(s) for the con this year?
Just take a lot of pictures and video. And maybe shoot a short scene of a short film. Hopefully, I'll also have this one thing I've been working on done in time for the con. With two weeks left, I'd better start cracking.
Anything else?
Several things, actually. But they'll end up distracting from the intent of this journal, so I'll save them for after Califur.
Be cool, stay safe, and I'll see you all at Califur this year hopefully. :D

Same job, new position
Posted 13 years agoBack around October, I started taking a few courses to be able to get my smog inspector license. Fast forward to last friday, the 27th. After passing all the classes over at CIAT, and mailing off the application to the State of California Bureau of Automotive Repair, I took the proctored exam last Friday for my smog license. An exam I successfully passed the first time. Which, given how it had taken me six times to completely pass my brake and lamp adjuster license exams, should have surprised me. But meh. Meh, I say!
So now, I am professionally licensed to perform smog inspections in the state of California.
Given that, my ability to attend future furry conventions may take a nose dive. In fact, general furry meetings may also go down, especially if they happen to take place Saturdays, days which I'm working. But at least I'll have a job to look forward to, at least until the end of the year. So that's good.
So, what's new with you guys?

No Rain Furrest for me this year
Posted 13 years agoJudging by the looks of things, it appears as if I won't be making Rain Furrest this year. Shocking, I know. The way things are going, I can't get the time off of work to attend. It's the one con where I take my best con photography at, and I can't attend.
Of course, if I could find someone to cover for me that particular weekend, I *could* attend. But where am I going to find someone that has a smog, brake, and lamp license?

Of life and death and friends
Posted 13 years agoAs a lot of you have already found out, Vex,
PonyBird, recently died in an unfortunate automobile accident.
sillyserpentine needs a lot of support right now, to be able to make it through these what I could imagine to be difficult times for her.Thinking about this situation, it doesn't seem like a fair deal at all. He was an awesome guy, who got cut down too soon. And, on top of it, it's also never an easy thing to lose anyone close to you at all. And that's how I saw Vex, as a kind of brother that I wish I'd had growing up. Allow me to elaborate. Anybody that knows me well knows that I'm not really as extroverted as I'd like to be.
I'll be the first to admit that I'm somewhat reserved, and probably with good cause. When I meet new people, I don't really know if they're going to be worth putting so much of my own time and effort into trying to become friends with them. Stating that, it's a wonder that I've made the friends I have within the furry fandom at all. But I remember making friends with Vex. And I feel it made me a better person for it.
I remember the last time I saw Vex alive, he and Serpy were getting ready to move North Carolina before heading up to Delaware. I'd seen him the day before, which happened to also be up at Razzle's place up in Lancaster, on Sunday. He'd been gracious enough to help me film part of a scene that I'd to have filmed later on, as the script progressed. The scene didn't work quite right, and I promised myself I'd 'fix the script tomorrow, and reshoot it once I managed to fly up to Delaware to see Vex and Serpy again.' *Metaphor and future promises that never happen*
The next day, he called me back to tell me that I'd forgotten my microphone at his place, which I felt grateful to him for. He didn't have to do it, he could have just packed it up and called me later, once he got situated. But he told me, and I said I wouldn't have minded driving all the way back up to get it again. I used that as another excuse to see them off one more time.
And so begins the phase where I let it all out now.
I would be inclined to say that I've come to the end of me, but I don't see myself really going anywhere anytime soon. I have survived a lot of bad things. And it would wrong of me to say that something like this would tear me apart. Because, for all the sadness, anger, emotional feelings that Vex's death presents me with, Serpy' really going to feel bad for this.
I'm also at the phase where I can know say, with certainty, that I no longer wish to try and believe in tomorrow. I'll hit the gym tomorrow. I'll find a better job tomorrow. I'll quit looking for excuses tomorrow. What if there was no tomorrow? There certainly wasn't one today.
It's just unfortunate that it took this series of events to lead to this.
The end.
And so, I leave you with this parting video, "We'll Meet Again", by Vera Lynn
.....
Well, that felt strangely cathartic. And don't forget, show support for
serpy right now. She needs it.FC 2012 Pictures are up

Quest for the Gigapixel piece of art
Posted 14 years agoAnybody who's been following my Twitter account would know that I occasionally make reference to wanting to get a Gigapan Epic Pro for the sole purpose of wanting to create gigapixel photographs.
Why do I bring this up here? Simple answer, really. There are two ways I want to go about doing this given its relevance to the furry fandom.
The first method involves creating a really high-resolution picture of a piece of artwork. And no, it's not going to be done on an already existing digital/traditional piece of artwork. I have in mind an original piece of work, in that I have one of my characters doing a sort of three-quarter rear view pose on either a 22" X 28" black poster board or 19" X 24" bristol board. The larger size allows both the artist and myself to achieve as high a detail as possible on a canvas of that size. Then I would go in and set up the print to be photographed multiple times and stitched together to create a really high-resolution image.
I am, of course, willing to both pay the artist for their time in assisting in this type of venture, and supplying all the necessary supplies to accomplish it. Artist gets paid and gets tools, and I get an image to work with. A simple deal, really.
The second method I have in mind is taking gigapixel images involving fursuits. I'm not as inclined to go about this method mainly because of the amount of time involved in taking enough photographs to stitch together a suitably large enough image. I'm not saying it can't be done without use of more creative methods, like inflatable dolls and mannequins. But I am saying that it would take quite a bit of work to try and pull this off. That, and finding the kinds of means to be able to pull this off as effectively as possible, given the kind of image I want to produce.
I am looking for feedback as to whether this would be the sort of thing that can be pulled off.

Fur and Murring on the way to Further Confusion
Posted 14 years agoThat's what I'd say, if I were so much inclined as to actually channel the spirit of Hunter S. Thompson. Despite the antagonism, and the dickish, trollish behavior of the CHP (California Highway Patrol) in shutting down a large enough sector of the 101, forcing me to reroute through the 1, costing me about an hour drive or so despite running on 18 hours or so, I took that as a sign that FC 2012 would definitely be an awesome con.
Evidence for that statement comes from the fact that, back in 2008, I had to deviate from my original plans in driving up the 5 freeway just to get to FC 2008. I had a stomach flu at the time, and was in a lousy mood at the time. But, despite it all, I actually enjoyed myself that time.
I took a lot of pictures. Which means I have a lot of pictures to go through and upload as soon as I get the time. I enjoyed the GoH bruncheon, although I ended up biting down on something hard enough to hit my already slipped tooth filling. Which reminds me, I really need to schedule a dentist appointment to either reset all my fillings or at least replace them with ceramic, and check my teeth out again.
One of the more awesome things that happened was that I had the honor of running around Sunday afternoon wearing one of the Syber suits owned by
syber Here's one shot that I especially enjoyed posing for - http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7237856/.
Over all, FC this year wasn't really a bad con overall. It just happened to be scheduled the same weekend at the SJCC (San Jose Convention Center) as a volleyball tournament. It's funny, too, since on Monday afternoon, I actually witnessed one of the girls starting to 'freak out' at the sight of a half-dozen fursuiters from 20 yards away. And her parents actually called them a 'bunch of fucking freaks.' I'm thinking, 'Whatever, bitch.' But seriously, though, any preconceptions you have clearly go out the window when you refuse to engage in the art of malefic confrontation. There's also the trouble with events scheduling that eventually got shifted around, after the books were already printed. I heard of cockroaches being in the San Jose Hilton where I was staying (I saw none, but heard by word of mouth and on a Twitter feed). Vending machines selling drinks for $4 a pop. Although I'm not against making money by many means, there's still gotta be a special place in hell for someone who pulls that sort of thing.
As per tradition (that I only really remember practicing after FC 2008), I stopped at the Irvine In-N-Out Burger on Bristol Street to enjoy a hamburger. Keep in mind, I could have stopped anywhere, but why ruin a good run?
So what did I think of Further Confusion 2012? It was a pretty good con this year. I'm still not sure if I can even afford the time offer to attend Further Confusion in 2013. As for the rest of 2012, I'm still not sure on that, either. RMFC and MFF are out, since they're too far away for me. Sure as hell am not planning on attending Antheria again, ever. I'm not going to go into the specifics of it, because I don't see the point in doing so. Even though I love Rain Furrest with a passion, I have a bad feeling that something might get in the way of that. As for Califur, I might attend, if only on Sunday. Why only one day? Unless i can convince myself that I can make money in the Dealer's Den based solely on the strength of being able to sell my photography, it's really a con where most of the people I hang out with at cons are already the same people I hang out with outside of Califur. I hang with the same friends I already do, either at the PS party, the Lake Murray Furry Anthro Outing (LMFAO, which I'm now going to attend more regularly), or friends that I usually see outside of those events.
Of course, the one upside I see to seriously cutting back on my convention memberships is being able to save my money for loftier, more ambitious goals. Like buying a house. And buying both a Canon 5D MKII and a GigaPan Epic Pro (http://gigapan.org/cms/shop/epic-pro). I really want to explore some things outside of just fursuit photography at cons and furry meet ups. And this really seems like the way to go.
And, with that, I'll be off. Good night for now.
One of the more awesome things that happened was that I had the honor of running around Sunday afternoon wearing one of the Syber suits owned by
syber Here's one shot that I especially enjoyed posing for - http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7237856/.Over all, FC this year wasn't really a bad con overall.
2011 wasn't a bad year overall
Posted 14 years agoI've seen better years, but overall, it could've been worse. A lot worse. I'm not going to give my review of 2011. No point, really. Not very many exciting things happened, but at least there wasn't an equivalent amount of drama.
I will, of course, talk about a few of the good things I've gotten into.
I've begun taking courses through CIAT to get my smog tech license. I've already passed the A6, A8, and L1. All that are left are the Basic Clean Air Car Course Phase I, Phase II & III, the Advanced CACC, and the 2011 update.
I bought a Canon T2i and a couple of studio lights. I am, of course, still looking for a few suiters to pose. Any takers? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
Also, I've completed a first draft of this film I'd like to shoot. I'm going to revise it and eventually film it. Once again, any takers?
That's about it. Anything else, I'll write a new journal about it...elsewhere.
